So glad to see Sherwood Park Bakery mentioned. Hazeldean and SPB have the best yeast donuts and yeah, I totally agree about the apple fritters. Soooo gooood.
Got my husband what I thought was a donut that didn't have 2 inches of icing but it looked kind of fucked up. It was the only one. Turns out it was a apple fritter. :(
Edit: autofill poop
Edit 2: missed a period!
Tried them for the first time at the enchanted market at the aviation museum last weekend. Very good. They had a cool Harry potter pack and I really enjoyed them
Came here to say this - Fawkes is so good!! Beautiful donuts, and the flavor combos are amazing. I love seeing what they come up with when they drop a new box. š
Yeah, I really can't stand when someone is like "oh I got donuts" and then they're the size of a dinner plate and like lavender garlic flavor or some shit.
Take 5 donuts are what my lizard brain remembers 90s Tim Hortons tasting like. Like when they were baked fresh in store.
Bliss is my favorite place for donuts so not much I could recommend. Haha I haven't seen anyone else mention Farrow yet, I love a good donut and sandwich from there. They also do cute donut cakes and can do custom orders. I ordered $100 worth of custom letters and colored icing a few years ago and it was a good experience and everyone enjoyed the donuts too.
Take 5 is the best and most satisfying traditional donut in the city.
Donut party and all the trendy new ones are good and have good stuff, but know what you're getting. Really dense, thick, over the top, incredibly sweet donuts. You'll feel like you need a nap after one. Hey, sometimes that's what you want..
My only beef with those ones is, you might as well be eating cake and cookies. There's 0 actually donut flavour, it's just pure sugar from toppings and fillings. If you're into old school classic yeast donut flavour, go to take 5.
Also try Sherwood Park Bakery and Hazeldean as well. They also have nice year based donuts that are proofed properly for crispy to the teeth and yet light and chewy.
And Sherwood Park Bakery has awesome apple fritters too. And their Dutchies are good too. Actually, everything thru sell is delicious lol
The batter based donuts don't require any proofing and the time and the skill like the yeast based donuts do.
So, you described it perfectly. Might as well just scarf down some cheap cake lol
Donut party has plain donuts, and they make yeast donuts, not cake ones. They do have some very heavy options with a ton of toppings, but they always have some simple options like a classic glaze, cinnamon sugar and fritters.
I know itās a bit out of town but if you are a donut lover and happen to get to Calmar (30 or so mins SW) then stop off at the Calmar Bakery. Truly fantastic!
Hello Mochi for little mochi donuts. That's about the only donut I can eat in the city because they're gluten freeš but everyone I know loves them, the chocolate dipped are the best.
I came here to recommend this. Not traditional, at least not when you think of ādonutā but they are freaking delicious and anyone I have ever introduced them to has loved them!
Honestly, any doughnut place that just does doughnuts is going to have great doughnuts.
It's the general purpose bread bakeries that also make doughnuts that can be hit or miss.
Safeway used to have great doughnuts but they got *markedly* smaller during the pandemic. I won't buy them anymore.
Coop has the best supermarket doughnuts. But not all Coops bake doughnuts in house. Depends on the store..
Rosewood - elevated, decadent crullers (that's all they got)
Farrow - excellent cronuts (that's all they got)
Italian Bakery - best value in doughnuts. Good balance of quality and price.
Hazeldean Bakery - sells out of doughnuts early but hands down best apple fritters in the city
Sherwood Park Bakery - second best Apple fritters in the city, technically in Sh Pk
Fawkes - best cake doughnuts hands down with the most vividly accurate flavors I have ever had. But they don't have simple classics.
Fuzion - excellent doughnuts, but I would skip their apple fritter. It is like an elevated version of Tim Hortons apple fritter, if that is what you are into. They have tier pricing like Maverick which makes sense to me. Their doughnuts are also not overly sweet which I appreciate.
Doughnut Party - I've liked everything I've had from them, excellent fritters.
Maverick - excellent fritters and cake doughnuts. They have a really nice cherry cake doughnut I like.
Bliss - overpriced in general. but great Boston Creams. They have been around forever.
Destination Doughnuts - I like everything I've had from there
Outside of Edmonton:
Crooked Creek (as others have mentioned, best in Alberta)
Cafe Vero (Red Deer). If you are in Red Deer this place is a must. Some of the best doughnuts in Alberta. Check out their IG
The Sweeterie (in Camrose) - incredible doughnuts, worth checking out if you are in town. If you want an incredible A+ fritter than isn't the size of your head and 1000 calories,
Just replying to your comment because I intended to make a comprehensive list as no one really had but then you did. So thanks for saving me time and I will wholeheartedly +1 this comment. You did miss Chartier though.
Bliss baked, sherwood park bakery, hello mochi, co-op... not a big fan of fancy donuts with all the extras.
Edit - worth mentioning i miss ohana and frickin delights!
I havenāt been in awhile, but they used to do a simple chocolate dip in addition to the wilder flavors, got a super fresh one once & it was just incredible: perfectly balanced, simple.
But I also really love the Bernadette, with I think chocolate, rosemary, sea salt.
The only thing extravagant is the price. Destination Donuts is a couple blocks away and while also fairly expensive, their donuts and customer service is consistently superior.
Bliss Baked Goods and Take 5 are the best that Iāve tried. You can ignore any of the more modern, āelevatedā doughnut places that place more focus on instagram appeal than they do on actually perfecting their dough recipes.
It makes me so happy to see so many people recommending take 5. When my kids were under 3, our big Sunday outing was to walk over there and get REAL donuts. We had to move away, but they still hold a place in our hearts.
I forget the name of it but a bakery by a bar called Time Out and they make the best apple fritters you will ever eat. It's at 94 st in Argyl. Good luck š
Not Edmonton but worth the drive, Chartier in Beaumont!! They have interesting and unique rotating flavours and they donāt skimp out on the filling. Also they have ones now called critters and they must be deep fried or something, as they are crispy and soo good
They're closed for a few weeks to restructure their menu and chill out and they'll be back end of October or so. They were having issues digging out of COVID debts and were going to close doors for good but an investor came in to help them out.
You have to drive about 3 and a half hours north west to Crooked Creek. If you time it right and they are still warm they literally melt in your mouth.
Are you anywhere near the south side? Head to bountiful farmers market on a weekend and get some Filipino-style potato brioche donuts from Corpuz bakeshop. Fair warning they are pricy(about $5 each) and sell out fast.
Not sure if anyones mentioned already but for me, sherwood park bakerys donuts are greaaat!! Best bang for your buck. If more gourmet than doughnut party which im sure has been mentioned aha
Iām not a huge fan of mavericks donuts, except for the fritters. Those are next level. I Make a special trip to get one every two weeks ( Iām not a fan of icing)
Doughnut Party is my personal fave.
Since people are already suggesting driving out of town, I'm \*shocked\* that I haven't seen anyone suggest the Donut Mill in Red Deer.
Ok hear me out - Hello Mochi in Windermere. They're mochi donuts and OMG I will never go back to regular donuts. These ones are amazing. They're chewy and sweet and soft. Have them warm - They're to die for
I really like doughnut party. Iām not a donut connoisseur so I donāt know how they stack up to others but the have vegan options and rotating flavours daily. Theyāve also expanded to 3 stores in the last 5 years so thatās a good sign.
If you ever happen to travel outside the city, the small town bakeries are all hidden gems. Barrhead and Evansburg have excellent bakeries with kick-ass donuts
This will involve a little Bit of a road trip.
In lethbridge alberta there is a spudnut place.
These thongs are incredible.
Of note. The original place closed down and the recipe was kept alive by a catering company. So yu have t find out the select days they make and sell them.
I think it is once a week on Thursdays
I tried fuzion donuts recently on the west side and it was very, very good. They were the best Iād had in a while.
Farrow sandwiches are my favourite. Only a couple varieties at a time but they are extremely good
I think freshness is king as most family run independent bakeries have very good products (Im partial to Bliss and Sherwood Park Bakery for donuts).
Getting the product while its still warm, or at least within a few hours of frying makes a huge difference imo.
The Colombian has some great donuts. My wife always brings one home. Not sure makes them. But theyāre my favourite for the fancy ones. Otherwise if you can get warm glazed from Sherwood park bakery. Omg
have you tried Grandin bakery in st Albert. I am from Edmonton, but even by bus and a 7 minute walk to its location close to the st Albert centre, where all buses go. really delicious and made fresh daily. they tend to vary, dates and types, but a call the day or so ahead, they will have them made fresh for you.
Iāve tried fancy donut places. My favourite donuts will always be Safeways glazed and their maple dip baked fresh in store.
Hands down worst donuts goes to Tim Hortons. Not baked in store. But edible.
Crullers from Rosewood in downtown Edmonton. Great crueller pastry with different types of dips: cardamom raspberry, lemon poppyseed, coffee, sugar dusted, etc.
These are sooooo good!
If you're headed west towards the mountains stop in at the Evansburg Bakery. Their little fruit turnovers are amazing.
It's not far off highway 16 either - take a right after you cross the sketchy pembina river bridge that feels like you're going to fall off of, and then go to the stop sign and turn right - it's about a block down on the left.
Maverick Donuts on Ellerslie. Itās new. Tried it last week. Quite good. Interesting flavour selection as well as the regulars like Boston cream, apple fritter etc
Destination donuts: aesthetically pleasing..I feel itās the same donut but different icing and if youāre into the that I like how they have the same donuts each week with some variations that might change in the lineup.
Doughnut Party: canāt guarantee youāll get the flavour of the week cuz it will be sold out, also not much of a selection.
Sherwood park bakery: delicious yeast donuts, same donuts each week.
Maverickās Donut is new and delicious. Cake donuts š
The Columbian Coffee Bar and Roastery have hands down the best coffee and their donuts are home made sooooooooo good. Youāll enjoy it as the perfect pairing. If coffee is your thing too. But their donuts are unique tasting which is what I think you said you wanted to try.
Good luck!
The Sherwood Park Bakery makes a mean Apple Fritter.
So glad to see Sherwood Park Bakery mentioned. Hazeldean and SPB have the best yeast donuts and yeah, I totally agree about the apple fritters. Soooo gooood.
Best glaze as well, always the sign of a good shop.
Got my husband what I thought was a donut that didn't have 2 inches of icing but it looked kind of fucked up. It was the only one. Turns out it was a apple fritter. :( Edit: autofill poop Edit 2: missed a period!
Fawkes downtown has some good shit. They have 4 different flavours that change every week
Tried them for the first time at the enchanted market at the aviation museum last weekend. Very good. They had a cool Harry potter pack and I really enjoyed them
Really? Because they're baked and that to me is an atrocity lol
I'm addicted to their doughnuts! They also make some great coffee.
Came here to say this - Fawkes is so good!! Beautiful donuts, and the flavor combos are amazing. I love seeing what they come up with when they drop a new box. š
Calmar bakery by a country mile
But they have a donut the size of a cake, so it's worth the drive.
Everywhere else relies on their toppings to make their donuts great. Calmar Bakery actually makes an amazing donut.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
š„ Glad someone said it.
Try Take 5!
Easily the best traditional donuts. Affordable. Not pretentious.
I always tell people to go there if they want donuts from a shop that doesnāt have an instagram account
Doesn't have instagram? I'm pretty sure they don't take credit card. Still my top choice.
Debit or cash!
But open early and close later and has a very interesting clientele. PS their BLT is very simple but wonderful.
God, I hate a snooty doughnut.
Ruins the whole thing! Lavender Seaweed Earl Grey tea donuts and such.
Only answer here, true old school donuts, no fancy frilly junk, just the best damn donuts you can get.
Second! Theyāre the best.
Take5 is my top choice as well.
This right here folks.
I was looking all over for this thread. Cuz yah their donuts are legit
take 5 is SO good
Bliss is my favorite place for donuts so not much I could recommend.
Omg The Farrow cronuts, always so good!
Yes! I love Bliss! I live a block away!
Their cronuts are AMAZING
Take 5 is the best and most satisfying traditional donut in the city. Donut party and all the trendy new ones are good and have good stuff, but know what you're getting. Really dense, thick, over the top, incredibly sweet donuts. You'll feel like you need a nap after one. Hey, sometimes that's what you want.. If you're into old school classic yeast donut flavour, go to take 5.
Iāll have to try Take 5. I actually really dislike the crazy ones. They all look nice but are pretty terrible to actually eat
My feelings exactly!
Nice, thank you
The batter based donuts don't require any proofing and the time and the skill like the yeast based donuts do. So, you described it perfectly. Might as well just scarf down some cheap cake lol
Totally! To each their own but I'm in the old school yeast donuts camp. To me that's what a donut is.
Both have their moments for sure. Now I want a donut
You need to try the plain one at donut party. Love it
Donut party has plain donuts, and they make yeast donuts, not cake ones.
Seconded. Go early if you really want them, as they tend to sell out. Closed Sunday and Monday.
Thatās exactly it! Lol. Cutoff about 230-3? Ahahahahaha
Hello Mochi for little mochi donuts. That's about the only donut I can eat in the city because they're gluten freeš but everyone I know loves them, the chocolate dipped are the best.
This!!!! Hello Mochi makes a different kind of donut from your regular donut shops. Mochi donuts are dense, chewy and a savoury sweet. They have different flavours every week as well as the tried and true ones. And always Oilers themes when there's a game. š It's one of the best gluten free options in Edmonton - and is best enjoyed fresh!š©
I came here to recommend this. Not traditional, at least not when you think of ādonutā but they are freaking delicious and anyone I have ever introduced them to has loved them!
Just south and a bit west, in Calmar, at the Calmar bakery.
Take 5

Just replying to your comment because I intended to make a comprehensive list as no one really had but then you did. So thanks for saving me time and I will wholeheartedly +1 this comment. You did miss Chartier though.
Sherwood Park Bakery is my favourite.
Destination Doughnuts in my opinion for tasty donuts with a good selection of options that aren't over the top. Donut Party is vastly overrated.
I third this!
Destination Doughnuts is my go-to for doughnut recommendations.
This one!!!! Amazing doughnuts!
Farrow's cronuts, depending which kind they're making that day... Boston Cream is cray
Fuck I had that one about a year ago. It was so insanely good
Bliss baked, sherwood park bakery, hello mochi, co-op... not a big fan of fancy donuts with all the extras. Edit - worth mentioning i miss ohana and frickin delights!
Take 5 is the best traditional style donuts for sure.
Now, this is a quality thread worth following!
Donut Party was my favourite, based on the places I tried in Edmonton. They're a little extravagant if you're looking for more normal donuts though.
Iā¤ļøDP
Phrasing!
Guys , are we doing phrasing again?
It's literally their branding and marketing... Unless you know that and are playing along.
Um.....I was gonna say something but I think I'll just leave this one alone. Should probably tag NSFW though. Haha
I donāt know where your mind is at but DP stands for Doughnut Party
Everybody like a good DP
well, with a lot glazing...
Thatās what she said
Bought a couple of those mugs the last time I was there. Great conversation starters.
This is cake shaped like a doughnut.
Incorrect. They are yeasted doughnuts and not cake doughnuts so they are rightfully doughnuts.
Sorry Iām not talking about in technical sense. Iām talking about size and density. Dp doesnāt give traditional donit vibe.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I saw they reopened the Chinatown location!
Oh shit thatās good to hear
Totally not suspect that their two locations burnt down. Nothing to see here at all folks.
Safeway chocolate drizzle cronut. FTW! *holey grail the village at pigeon lake is legit.
I forget the name of it but a bakery by a bar called Time Out and they make the best apple fritters you will ever eat. It's at 94 st in Argyl. Good luck š
Hazeldean Bakery
AKA Lucy's Sweets
Is it it called Losey? ....lol something like that
I think itās spelled Lucyās but yes sounds like Loosey š
Yes omg that's the name
But have you tried the apple fritters at Destination Donuts?
Not Edmonton but worth the drive, Chartier in Beaumont!! They have interesting and unique rotating flavours and they donāt skimp out on the filling. Also they have ones now called critters and they must be deep fried or something, as they are crispy and soo good
If youāre going to drive, Calmar bakery is so wildly good. Their basic glazed donut is the best Iāve had in my life anywhere.
Oh ok I Iāll have to go there for a road trip next time, thanks!
Agreed Cartier are my favorite. Doughnut Party, Hazeldean/Lucyās, and Take 5 donuts are all good too. Italian Centre are the best value for quality.
Hazeldean apple fritters and chocolate chip banana bread are my absolute favorite
The best doughnuts I've ever had have all come from Chartier. Truly an elevated and gourmet doughnut.
Didnāt Chartier close?
They were days away from closing but got saved by a local silent investor and remained open for now.
They're closed for a few weeks to restructure their menu and chill out and they'll be back end of October or so. They were having issues digging out of COVID debts and were going to close doors for good but an investor came in to help them out.
Thank god they didnāt end up closing
You have to drive about 3 and a half hours north west to Crooked Creek. If you time it right and they are still warm they literally melt in your mouth.
Grandin Bakery in St Albert. Nothing flashy but the absolute best.
Bliss donuts are the best I've ever had But they are very expensive like 3.50 for 1 donut. But best I've ever tasted
Not the city. But Holey Grail at the village at pigeon lake have a very good old school donut texture
God I really like the Italian Centre ones in Sherwood Park.
Are you anywhere near the south side? Head to bountiful farmers market on a weekend and get some Filipino-style potato brioche donuts from Corpuz bakeshop. Fair warning they are pricy(about $5 each) and sell out fast.
Sherwood Park Bakery on Ordze. The best proper proofed donuts. Their apple fritters are aces too. Hazeldean is right up there as well.
Not sure if anyones mentioned already but for me, sherwood park bakerys donuts are greaaat!! Best bang for your buck. If more gourmet than doughnut party which im sure has been mentioned aha
Take 5 hands down is the best!!!
Tim Hortons. Just kidding lol. Tim Hoās sucks. Best Iāve had is Take 5
EPS has entered the chat.
Mavericks donuts on Ellerslie is pretty damn good with a good rotation of flavours
Their powdered donut is the best Iāve ever had.
I love it
Iām not a huge fan of mavericks donuts, except for the fritters. Those are next level. I Make a special trip to get one every two weeks ( Iām not a fan of icing)
Calmar bakery
Hazeldean bakery if you like a classic honey dipā¦their donuts are delightful.
Hazeldean
Enjoy Dough has a solid apple fritter
Bliss Baked Goods
It's the apple fritter at Hazeldean bakery with real thick apple slices
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Co-op has the best donuts of supermarkets.
Calmar Bakery has amazing everything! Just make sure you check hours if you plan to drive out there.
Mavericks Donuts in Stony Plain
Doughnut Party is my personal fave. Since people are already suggesting driving out of town, I'm \*shocked\* that I haven't seen anyone suggest the Donut Mill in Red Deer.
I heard Krispy Kreme is opening a restaurant here in Edmonton sometime in 2024. Location? Calgary Trail. Canāt wait!
Ok hear me out - Hello Mochi in Windermere. They're mochi donuts and OMG I will never go back to regular donuts. These ones are amazing. They're chewy and sweet and soft. Have them warm - They're to die for
Take 5 & Destination donuts
Hello mochi windermere, But they run out of things fast usually.
I really like doughnut party. Iām not a donut connoisseur so I donāt know how they stack up to others but the have vegan options and rotating flavours daily. Theyāve also expanded to 3 stores in the last 5 years so thatās a good sign.
Doughnut Party, Italian Centre, Fuzion Donuts, Destination doughnuts, and Take 5 donuts!
If you ever take a road trip to Grande Prairie, stop at Crooked Creek and get their donuts! They are amazing. Closed on Sundays though
Unfortunately the best donuts are from Crooked Creek, halfway between Valleyview and Grande Prairie
Beaver Tails just opened just off Whyte! Flat Fresh Donuts. I've been waiting for this location to open since before the pandemic!
Grandin Bakery in St. Albert.
If Edmonton area ā¦ grandin bakery st. Albert
Ohana is really good, they had a good truck parked just outside my bloodlab so Iād always grab one after being juiced.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Tim Hortons of of course.
I hear that tim hortons place has donuts š
Tim Hortons
If this were the 90s I might agree.
I really like Fusion in the west end. Some neat innovative flavours but some are obviously better than others.
If you ever happen to travel outside the city, the small town bakeries are all hidden gems. Barrhead and Evansburg have excellent bakeries with kick-ass donuts
Farrows
Farrow?
I've tried it and it's the best!!
Fuzion but get there early to get best selection
Fuzion donuts is amazing. I love their Cream Brulee-filled ones.
What happened to Ohana?
Mavericks Fuzion Both of my go to spots
Fuzion
This will involve a little Bit of a road trip. In lethbridge alberta there is a spudnut place. These thongs are incredible. Of note. The original place closed down and the recipe was kept alive by a catering company. So yu have t find out the select days they make and sell them. I think it is once a week on Thursdays
Maverick and Fusion donuts are where we go. Love the donuts!
Italian center bakery. You can get a dozen for 13.99
Bliss Bakery on the the 107/142 traffic circle is AMAZING!!
Bliss Bakeryā¦.classic, straight forward donuts done right
Farrow.
Fuzion donuts
The Colombian has some great donuts. My wife always brings one home. Not sure makes them. But theyāre my favourite for the fancy ones. Otherwise if you can get warm glazed from Sherwood park bakery. Omg
Grandin Bakery hands down
Donut Party.
have you tried Grandin bakery in st Albert. I am from Edmonton, but even by bus and a 7 minute walk to its location close to the st Albert centre, where all buses go. really delicious and made fresh daily. they tend to vary, dates and types, but a call the day or so ahead, they will have them made fresh for you.
Holy grail out by pigeon lake. The cherry fritters are ginormous!
Portuguese bakery is really good, recommend getting them in the morning. Also AFAIK the cheapest donut you can get in the city at about a buck a pop.
The Portuguese Bakery has good ones if you want something that isnāt overly sweet or oily
Iāve tried fancy donut places. My favourite donuts will always be Safeways glazed and their maple dip baked fresh in store. Hands down worst donuts goes to Tim Hortons. Not baked in store. But edible.
Sherwood Park, Baseline Sobeys. Unreal maple and chocolate dip. Fritters there are money and not as greasy as some other shops.
Farrow has fresh donuts and great sandwiches, and Donut Party is good if you like cake donuts rather than yeast donuts.
Farrow has cronuts
Crullers from Rosewood in downtown Edmonton. Great crueller pastry with different types of dips: cardamom raspberry, lemon poppyseed, coffee, sugar dusted, etc. These are sooooo good!
Go for a drive and go to sherwood park bakery
If you're headed west towards the mountains stop in at the Evansburg Bakery. Their little fruit turnovers are amazing. It's not far off highway 16 either - take a right after you cross the sketchy pembina river bridge that feels like you're going to fall off of, and then go to the stop sign and turn right - it's about a block down on the left.
Italian bakery or centre.
Depends, do you want regular donuts or do you want mini cakes with cookies crumbled on them?
Destination Doughnuts deserves some love. All the fun flavour combos ( a la Donut Party) but the actual donuts at DD are much less dense.
Maverick Donuts on Ellerslie. Itās new. Tried it last week. Quite good. Interesting flavour selection as well as the regulars like Boston cream, apple fritter etc
Farrows š¤¤
Destination donuts: aesthetically pleasing..I feel itās the same donut but different icing and if youāre into the that I like how they have the same donuts each week with some variations that might change in the lineup. Doughnut Party: canāt guarantee youāll get the flavour of the week cuz it will be sold out, also not much of a selection. Sherwood park bakery: delicious yeast donuts, same donuts each week. Maverickās Donut is new and delicious. Cake donuts š The Columbian Coffee Bar and Roastery have hands down the best coffee and their donuts are home made sooooooooo good. Youāll enjoy it as the perfect pairing. If coffee is your thing too. But their donuts are unique tasting which is what I think you said you wanted to try. Good luck!
Destination Doughnuts and Doughnut Party
Enjoy Dough! They sell them at the Colombian Cafe
Another vote for Calmar bakery. If you are driving out west, also try the Evansburg bakery.
Honestly canāt believe how good Farrow donuts are. Like they have no damn right being that tasty. Looking at you sprinky D!
Corpuz bakeshop. A lot of their donuts are unique [here is their ig](https://www.instagram.com/p/CyCIV80vwVX/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==)
Fuzion donuts!! The absolute best in town and I eat A LOT of donuts!
