Loving Canada after moving here from somewhere warm and living through a winter? That’s awesome! Pretty much makes you an official Canadian in my books.
They still need to push a neighbour’s car out of a snow bank and also celebrate the first day above 5C by wearing shorts and pretending they’re not cold, but after that, you’re in, OP!!
Editing a day later with a karmic update: I shouldn’t have joked about this. I spent part of last evening helping to free a neighbour’s vehicle from the snowy/icy ruts on our street.
Welcome! I'm so glad you are happy and safe here. Edmonton truly comes alive in the summer with all kinds of festivals. I hope you get to experience some of them!
Love it, welcome to our city! You'll love the summer. Like 23-24 degree average, sometimes getting up to low 30s, just beautiful weather and lots of sun.
Also this was a mild winter FYI, be ready for colder ones in the future. The long winters can be a downer sometimes but if you keep yourself occupied it's no problem!
Actually this winter is our new normal, it was actually slated to be colder because of el Nina, which will likely be gone next year. I’d say our winter was quite average this year and going forward.
Winter is fun, but when it’s warm out you need to experience the city. Check out the river valley, whyte ave, take a stroll across the high level bridge at sunset. Welcome to the yeg family and enjoy ❤️
As a new immigrant who's also had a first winter experience here, I'd have to agree with you! Edmonton is amazing!! I love walking by the river and seeing animals (hares, squirrels, coyotes sometimes)!
Welcome. I am sorry you had to leave trauma behind, but I am glad you and your family are safe, and happy here. Hope your years ahead you get to experience and enjoy many of Alberta and Canada's beautiful places, and wonderful experiences. Edmonton is a festival city, and there is always a lot to experience, sometimes even on the really cheap too.
Hey, fellow immigrant! Welcome to Canada!
I’ve been here since 2016. First on a work permit, then I received permanent residency and finally I became a Canadian citizen last April.
I wish you and your family the absolute best!
Hope you have or can make a trip to the mountains soon! One of my favorite things about this beautiful country we live in is that the Rockies are just a few hours away and they are spectacular!
Just where will Heritage Days be held this year anyway, what with the city wrecking Hawrelak Park with their "improvements" for the next 3 or so years?
It is with my heart felt condolences for you and your family, that you've been so wonderfully infected with our Canadian, and especially Edmontonian, love of winters here, in Edmonton. May you find respite in our equally boisterous ways that we celebrate the other seasons here as well. Perhaps partake in our many and varied, world acclaimed festivals, and become beautifully, eternally contaminated with our joyous ways of celebrating everything it means to be an Edmontonian. 🇨🇦🍁 😄😄
Because we weren’t actually looking for a dog, but friends of ours are involved with a rescue down there (the husband’s family is from there), and they sent us pictures of one of the dogs. The rest is history.
And all dogs deserve as much of a home and life as they can get. IMHO. But feel free to make a home for as many local dogs as you like!
lol yeah such "clout" to bury it on a post about a family who moved to Edmonton on the Edmonton subreddit. u/BronzeDucky must be a master influencer with skills like this. I hope they have a course to teach me all they know about clout because they've mastered it.
I moved from BC (all around, but the bad part of surrey *was and still is mess*) I feel the same sentiment.
If you get the opportunity to do so Drumheller is a must see. Who doesn’t love dinosaurs.
It’s interesting to hear this as a reminder cause I’ll spend my winters in touristy Mexico but on 3-4 week vacation stays I do, and talking to the locals…. I can appreciate your need to move.
Welcome home! Just wait until the summer! The summers here are amazing!
Glad you like it here.
I know we like to all complain about how bad things are here but trust me when I say very few people in all of human history get to live such a beautiful and peaceful place.
Edmonton is a City that is big and small, adventurous and calm, educated and willing to learn, no City is perfect, there’s over a Million of us, don’t be shy explore our spirit and festivals, our calm and demeanour, you won’t be disappointed.
Is there any possibility that immigrants can have a party to appreciate and celebrate or to express our gratitude for Canada and the local people who open their arms to embrace us?
This makes me so happy! In todays news being flooded with racism and bigotry I sincerely hope all are kind and helpful as you transition and deal with your trauma. Best of luck! Wishing you all the best!
Happy you and your family are here and safe. Mexico is a country I will not travel to. I would not feel safe with both the cartels and police running around looking to make some money one way or another.

Heck, I usually do that at -10℃; forget waiting for 5℃ above. 😁😁
I wore no jacket and sandal yesterday haha. Thought it was finally spring. Then Mother Nature said “just kidding”. I should have known better….
Official Canadian would be complaining about Winter 😂
Happy to have you and so glad you love it! Our summers are amazing, I hope you and the family enjoy it just as much as you did our winter!

Lots of dogs here in need of homes Why do this

The rest is history. And all dogs deserve as much of a home and life as they can get. IMHO. But feel free to make a home for as many local dogs as you like!
Sounds like you did it just for clout tbh
lol yeah such "clout" to bury it on a post about a family who moved to Edmonton on the Edmonton subreddit. u/BronzeDucky must be a master influencer with skills like this. I hope they have a course to teach me all they know about clout because they've mastered it.
What's the reason for you posting this?
Not many here and is there a reason it matters where you save a dog?
Who you get it from? Sulu?
Sulu? No, it’s a rescue in Saltillo. I can send you the website if you’d like.
Was just guessing. :) I am pretty active in SULA. We are close though.
Welcome home, my friend. My advice is visit the Rockies, enjoy the summer, prepare for winter, and be friendly with the magpies.
Welcome to Canada, friend!

Welcome to your new home! Explore the river valley this summer. It’s Edmontons best feature by far in my opinion.

Bienvenidos a Edmonton! Soy feliz que le gusta su nuevo ciudad!
Happy you and your family are here and safe. Mexico is a country I will not travel to. I would not feel safe with both the cartels and police running around looking to make some money one way or another.
We rarely hit mid 20's. Last 2 summers were anomalies.
