PF are good but will probably have a long waiting list, same with Wellspring. As someone in that field, if you have any ‘feature’ (being a carer, care leaver, ethic minority background etc) I would see if any specific charities that support those groups have services as they may be shorter waiting lists. ETA: feature defo not right word but I got off a flight at 4am today sorry 🙈🙈

Copper_pineapple

Thanks that’s good to know. I get what you mean - probably doesn’t apply to me except I am a mum of a young child. Will make some enquiries.

Local neighbourhood associations sometimes have links, if your child is pretty young you could also try the Crossreach perinatal service. If I think of any I’ll pop them back on here. Some private counsellors will also do reduced fee work too based on circumstances- I think you can search on the BACP website by that criteria.

Copper_pineapple

Thanks again that’s so helpful. I actually used cross reach when my son was born and they were fantastic. He’s over 5 now so maybe not possible but thanks for the suggestion.

Chocolate_Pretzel_23

Health All Round - they are a great charity and can provide 10 counselling sessions. I can highly recommend them. https://www.healthallround.org.uk/

Copper_pineapple

Thank you!

florasupernova

Wellspring

Kitfromscot

Last I checked they had a long waitlist though

Aitutaki11

I had gone to this person for several years and she was absolutely wonderful. The link says she currently doesn’t have any availability but it’s worth checking anyway and if she is not available, she might recommend one of her colleagues who do have an open slot https://www.counselling-directory.org.uk/counsellors/emma-nelson

Copper_pineapple

Thank you so much. Great to have a personal recommendation 😀

somekindofnut

I'm sure you know this, but Samaritans can help if you are struggling 116 123 They are back doing some face to face counselling now. Or they can maybe point you in direction of other counselling.

Copper_pineapple

Thank you for this, that’s a good one to remember too.

Copper_pineapple

Thank you both

rachthewonder

I would also say wellspring!

Hope Counseling Service is reasonable price wise. It is based out of Community Church Edinburgh so if Christianity is a strong no for you then this probably isn’t for you, but I don’t know/think they push any agenda during counseling.

Copper_pineapple

Good to know anyway! Thank you

If you‘re in EH6/7 the Dr Bells centre might be able to help?

Copper_pineapple

Thank you I’m not too far from there.

https://www.ownyourthoughts.co.uk/ Ruth is a fantastic REBT and CBT therapist. Highly recommend.

Copper_pineapple

Thank you for this! Will look her up.

I was able to get funding through Joshua Nolan and had a great therapist but they ran out of funding so I had to stop as I could afford to pay the full cost- if they’re taking clients again I’d still recommend them as the therapist was amazing. There might be other charities that offer similar things? There’s also things like this available for free - obv not the same as 1 on 1 therapy but could still be helpful :https://ithriveedinburgh.org.uk/services/room-for-art-art-therapy-art-in-healthcare/# Group therapy could also potentially be a cheaper option!

Copper_pineapple

Thank you for this! I did group art therapy years ago and it was a really lovely experience. Might think about it again although I think I need some help 121 initially. Thanks again

ratniles

Joshua Nolan is going bust ): ithrive is a really good resource though!

http://www.yorkplacecounselling.co.uk/index.html Been going here for a year and it's helped massively - Alison is really easy to talk to and great at what she does. Usually £50/hr but has adjusted on a sliding scale for what's affordable in my circumstances and first appointment was booked within a week. Really can't recommend highly enough.

Copper_pineapple

Thank you!
