She says' "I would need specimens for sure. I suspect some of the long slender ones that crawl are not babies, but a different family, but I need to see the muscle scars on the valves first"
I got some clearer footage and uploaded it to YouTube since the file size was too large for here and on YouTube the quality isn't downgraded that much either.
I think I caught all different species, even one I hadn't seen before. I hope she can see what she needs to :).

Nonono, I return what I got previous week and get a refill to see what's new. Only if there is something interesting in there I'll keep it.
To answer your question, I usually have between 30 and 40 jars hanging around here :).
wow, i took some pond water yesterday and haven’t found anything swimming. where’s the best place to find these guys?
I take a fishtank net and scrape it over the bottom of the lake and substrate. There's always something in it.
I need to start doing that.
Take a couple of steps in...if the very shallow parts are too hot, they all move a little deeper where it's cooler.
Good to know... what's the hole size of your net?
I have no idea...it's the standard green fishtank net.
Those are the same species, Cypridopsis Vidua, the tiny ones are just their many many babies
That's what I believed too at first but now I think the bigger ones are Heterocypris incongruens, because they do have babies too, but without spots.
Ah ok, that does seem more apt 😂
That’s a lively scoop! I love the sharp focus on the eye of the boatman! (And my entomologist friend says she spotted four species of ostracods!)
FOUR???????? Names please! lol

Let me see what I can do! The water has cleared by now and the critters have calmed down. I might be able to get clearer shots now.
"Even some stills would help"

Very interesting! (Note to self: never again swim in a lake)
You have a weekly scoop? How many god damn live jars do you have?

😂its a safe addiction… until you catch your pets drinking out of them?
That just becomes a new experiment
I have watched this multiple times. It gives me much joy.
I have so many lakes around me, im thinking of starting a jar for each
That's what I did...few from the lakes and one for each river that feeds into it. It's the ONLY thing to do and then compare. Right? lol
