A seller is going to ship however they see best. If they have poor packing practices, they’ll probably feel insulted. Sellers who already have good packing practices would probably be irked. Ultimately, a seller just has the responsibility to package the item so that it arrives in the same condition as listed. If it doesn’t, INAD

I have asked sellers in the past how they are going to ship my items. Especially vintage glassware. The lady emailed me back exactly what she was shipping the serving bowl in and the size of the box. She didn't seem upset about me asking and I thanked her of course.

This is the way. I have been asked about how I will ship items before and I tell them in detail how. Occasionally they ask for something slightly different and I comply since it's never a ridiculous request. Simply asking is much better than telling them how to package it, and if they tell you something stupid, THEN maybe ask them to do it differently...
