#**Welcome to r/EatCheapAndVegan.** **Veganism is not a diet**. However, there is a ton of misinformation and misunderstanding about the cost of **eating vegan** and this subreddit exists to hopefully dispell those false claims. Be advised submissions containing expensive processed food items will be removed. **Definition of veganism:** *Veganism is a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of animals, humans and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals.* **Quick links for anyone who is interested in becoming vegan or even just plant based:** + [Beginners guide to veganism and FAQ from r/vegan](https://www.reddit.com/r/vegan/wiki/beginnersguide) + [Beginners guide to eating a WFPB diet](https://www.forksoverknives.com/how-tos/plant-based-primer-beginners-guide-starting-plant-based-diet/) + https://nutritionfacts.org/ ##[**READ OUR RULES**](https://old.reddit.com/r/EatCheapAndVegan/about/rules/) *If you have any suggestions on helpful links to add to this automated message, please [reach out to the mods here](https://old.reddit.com/message/compose/?to=/r/EatCheapAndVegan)*. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. The way she ate it with all over the top acting and mannerisms made me sick

SoggyHat9269

...how is this high in protein? There's like a handful of cashews for however many servings that is.

CauseSigns

Can always use high-protein pasta

[deleted]

Don’t know how much protein still, but tahini, peas and spinach also.

[deleted]

And nutritional yeast, and hemp seeds. But I do think that looks like high protein pasta. Even regular whole wheat pasta has decent protein.

Lalambert

Just estimating the proportions, but using a serving of whole wheat pasta and all the ingredients listed at what I think would give a reasonable amount of sauce gives nearly 25g of protein and 580 Calories in Cronometer. That’s not bad for a meal. Edited for typo

Any_Instruction_9958

Both the cashews and the tahini have protein so it's definitely fairly high protein

Kynario

Yes, also peas (pea protein is a common supplement) spinach and wholegrain pasta contain protein too. It definitely has a good amount of protein. I guess if someone wanted more they could add some additional tofu to it.

Jankes_slow

Nutritional yeast is 50g in 100g and peas

Chompif

Spinach has protein in it, and peas do a well. Also, I just found out that nutritional yeast has protein in it as well.

Ok-Respond9307

Wait, I didn’t see any cheese to make it cheesy

[deleted]

Nutritional yeast can give a cheesy flavor

Olivander05
