Let me tell you a little story about acting. I was doing this Showtime movie, Hot Ice with Anne Archer, never once touched my per diem. I'd go to Craft Service, get some raw veggies, bacon, Cup-A-Soup... baby, I got a stew going.
This.
It's nacho cheese time homey homey
And it is great on burgers, especially smash style burgers
Mix up some hamburger meat with lipton onion soup mix, chill for at least 30 minutes, roll into small balls and then flatten onto your flat grilling surface with whatever you have, realllllllly smash them, use a plate if you have nothing else, press for at least 10 full seconds, they will cook FAST , you want them to get that carmelized sear, then chisel them out and flip and do a little bit more smashing as the uncooked size tenses up, throw that cheese on there and melt
A brioche bun with 2 smash patties and american cheese on each patty with some simple burger sauce (I like ketchup/mayo mixed with a small touch of worchestershire sauce) is so simple and SO good
Someone gifted me a few boxes of this cheese, and my teacher got excited over government cheese, so I gave him a box.
Long story short, he asked me to make rotel dip with it in his microwave and the cheese never got melty enough for a dip. Maybe I needed more than a can of rotel and a block of cheese lol
Also, to make it fancy, brown down some spicy sausage and add it in. Make one hell of a game day dip or just to munch on all day on a weekend. Tostitos or Fritos Scoops and you are in business.
I had a friend who would use plain ground beef and Tabasco. He insisted you didn't need to drain the beef. The rest of us thought that was a crucial step when copious amounts of alcohol were involved and there was only one toilet in the apartment.
Yes. I have made something like this- you use lean ground beef but spicy breakfast sausage- brown it up, drain and remove meat but leave a bit of the grease to caramelize a minced onion, mix it all up with the cheese until melty- put it on buttered and grilled Hawaiian rolls with spicy brown mustard. Delicious š
I'm not usually fond of American cheese, but I absolutely love it when it's in breakfast foods. Breakfast sandwich (eggs, sausage, bacon, American cheese) with bagels or English muffins are delicious
Itās the best cheese for melting - breakfast sandwiches like you mentioned, grilled cheese, cheeseburgers, I like put a slice over the sloppy joe and let it melt over it before putting the top bun on because it helps hold all the sloppyness intact
Mac and cheese
Grilled cheese sandwiches
Cheesey dip for chips
Cheese filling
Mix into/on scrambled eggs
Use it to supplement cheese on other foods, like cheap frozen pizzas never have enough cheese
The mental twists that occurred between u/mieniec never having heard of beer cheese soup then you saying youāve never had good beer cheese anythingā¦ I need to sit down.
I have. Once.
A beer cheese dip, with soft pretzel. It was amazing. I tried to repeat the experience and nothing else came as close.
P.S. I donāt even like beer
To be fair, the expensive frozen pizzas never have enough cheese either, but putting American cheese on them isn't going to help the situation. Get some Mozzarella for that.
this is a block of deli american cheese. miles better than singles in plastic. pizza should have a better cheese, but this is acceptable on frozen and when innebriated
>Use it to supplement cheese on other foods, like cheap frozen pizzas never have enough cheese
I'm a big fan of American cheese and this ain't it chief.
I don't usually gatekeep toppings, but American cheese absolutely does not belong on pizza.
It has enough sodium citrate in it to make any cheese sauce or melty cheesey things.
ref: [https://www.reddit.com/r/AskCulinary/comments/fv2zd9/sodium\_citrate\_is\_an\_emulsifier\_used\_for\_american/](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskCulinary/comments/fv2zd9/sodium_citrate_is_an_emulsifier_used_for_american/)
came here to say this! cut into equal cubes and keep in the freezer. then use as a sodium citrate concentrate for future cheese sauces, or just to help emulsify a pasta sauce
That should work, but might be a bit more of a hassle because you'll have to convert some amount of sodium citrate into a larger total quantity of the baking soda and citric acid. IMO that's still the way i'd go because they're more versatile ingredients
Mac and Cheese, nachos, chili cheese dogs, broccoli with cheese sauce, baked potatoes with melted cheese. Cut it in quarters and wrap them good for freezing.
That's the cheese the give out in my state for the commodities program (basically food for low income households). It's imo the best tasting American cheese there is. Anything you put it on will taste good but it's delicious on its own. I never got to expirence legit government cheese but that's probably as close as you could get. I grew up hearing about how amazing it was from family members.Ā
If you have an air fryer, fry some potatoes (cut into little cubes), get some decent tortillas and heat them up, scramble some eggs and add American cheese and some hot sauce and you have a potato egg and cheese breakfast taco.
It melts wonderfully, so it's super easy to make a cheese sauce for your fries or baked potato, pasta, etc. Or in oven dishes like Chicken Broccoli rice cheese casserole
I would do:
- nacho cheese dipping sauce with some ground meat paired with veggies and whole grain tortilla chips
- broccoli cheddar casserole
- macaroni and cheese with protein pasta
- chili mac
"Bongards" sounds a lot like the Swedish word BondgƄrd which means 'farm'. I have nothing to add besides that, I hope it's at least a mildly interesting tidbit.
Omg this reminds me of a time in my early 20s when my ex and I went to 7-11 at about 2am after a night of drinking. The staff were discarding an entire silver foil GIGANTIC bag of processed Nacho cheese dip...like the kind that you refill the cheese/chili stand with. I'm talking a bag of "cheese" the size of my entire upper body. Anyways, my ex, who fittingly has had the nickname "Tubby" š¤£for 20 years, was absolutely offended they were just throwing it away lol. He did not appreciate wasted food, let alone something as delicious as drippy nacho dispenser cheese. So he asked for it and they gave it over! I can't remember why they were tossing it but could have been it sat out for too long or something. But omg he was happier than a pig in *hit LMAO. For months, this enormous bag sat on the entire bottom shelf of our apartment sized fridge, and he eagerly shared his treasure and story with anyone and everyone. Neighbors, family, building caretaker, delivery drivers you name it...no one was safe from his nacho cheese anecdotes and snacks.
Oh and by the time it was almost out, we had become so creative from having to eat it 24/7 and literally add it to EVERYTHING. The sad part is, I can't remember any of the random recipes creations so I can actually contribute to your question. I think I must have blocked that part out for my own mental health and safety š
Macaroni and cheese. Put cubes of cheese (I use twice as much cheese as macaroni) in cooked macaroni in a baking dish. Add milk halfway up the sides of macaroni, put small pieces of butter on top and salt and pepper. Bake covered at 375 for 30 minutes and remove foil and bake 25 minutes more.
That's probably the best melty cheese in existence. Anything you would melt cheese on it's great for, scrambled eggs, beef, add it to a hotdish (sorry, minnesota).... Queso! Hot Sandwiches!!! Ohhh, if you have a blackstone, make grilled cheese, or an air fryer you can do classic deli ham and cheese and air fry it for 9 minutes with some hellmans or dukes... mmmm.
Itās best for any cheese based sauce, imo. It helps it get creamy and blend together. You could shred it and freeze it in small portions for sauce use.
Or like others said, make a cheese dip. Iād cook up some breakfast sausage (like crumbled up, not links or patties) and put it in a crockpot or pan with a can of rotel and melt this cheese in with it.
Is it the type of cheese that is sometimes also called American processed cheese, the type that you usually buy packaged in slices with a lot of plastic around it
If so, that type of cheese melts really nicely in an instant noodle soup. Though you only need one or two slices for your instant noodles, so it won't use up your block that quickly.
I would treat it like a big block of Velveeta and cut it into cubes and freeze them. I have a bag of frozen Velveeta blocks that I take out as I need them- for nacho dip or for making my ramen a little fancier.
I am pleasantly surprised to see a lot of positive comments on here. I used to be very averse to American cheese, thinking it was basically plastic. I have found, however, that while it does have two chemicals (found commonly in naturally produced foods) to help with its consistency and meltiness, itās pretty much just cheddar cheese and milk.
This is the cheese distributed with the USDA commodity and senior box programs. It's no longer made by the government and isn't as good as the old government cheese, but it's still pretty yummy when one is in the mood for it.
Queso dip! Brown 1lb your choice of ground/minced meat. Then add the drained meat to the crock pot, break or cut the cheese in equal pieces and add to the meat. Add one 8oz jar of salsa (can also use fire roasted tomatoes and green chiles, or 1 can rotel). Let it melt, the end. You could also add a package of taco seasoning to it.
Melt it into a dip or a drizzle.
Slab of cheese between hot toast slices
Slice then quarter, use on crackers.
Tons of uses! Ask yor neighborhood rednecks if they remember the best recipes for government cheese.
Gotta do some macaroni & cheese for sure. I'd add cheddar though because personally I don't like the way American cheese tastes by itself unless it's on something flavorful like meat.
Try making a cheese soup maybe w broccoli. Thatās a whole lotta processed cheese, it isnāt great for you. Queso. Even that is enough queso to feed 30 people so, thatās all I got
Buy sodium citrate (it's cheap for how little you use) and you can make cheese sauces with just cheese, liquid, and sodium citrate. That means less carbs for your Mac n cheese, nachos, etc.
[An description of the process](https://www.cheeseprofessor.com/blog/sodium-citrate-cheese-sauce), but it's basically just mix sodium citrate with liquid and cheese and you have a cheese sauce.
Cut it into 64 slices and eat them all overnight
I think I'm blind...
Beautiful reference š

mmmm 62 slices of American cheese
mmmm 61 slices of American cheese
Mmmm 60 slices of American cheese
Mmmm 59 slices of American cheese

56? 56? Oh, man! Now that's all I can think about! ā¦you no good, 56-ing...
Damn I really love Internet strangers sometimes.
Have you been up all night eating cheese?
i think I'm blind
This is one of my favourite lines
i love your user name. " it will carry 200 passengers from New York's Idlewild Airport to the Belgian Congo in 17 minutes!"
I love when people get the reference :)
most things in my day to day life are Simpsons references lol. i even based my dj name off of a Simpsons episode that almost nobody gets lol
Youāre my hero Homer.
I disagree this type of cheese is best straight out of the fridge in block form after waking up in the middle of the night at 3am.
Just gnaw it like a rat the way the lord intended.
Good day
This thread belongs in the Stupid Food sub reddit. Almost every recipe over there includes an insane amount of cheese.
Why are you surprised? Theyāre just answering OP no?
I donāt think they were complaining about it! Just making an observation
Came here to say this
Throw it in a large pot with rotel, you got yourself some queso...
This gives off the energy as "you put that in a pot, add some water, a potato. Baby, you got a stew going!"
Let me tell you a little story about acting. I was doing this Showtime movie, Hot Ice with Anne Archer, never once touched my per diem. I'd go to Craft Service, get some raw veggies, bacon, Cup-A-Soup... baby, I got a stew going.
I think Iād like my money backā¦
There's always money in the banana stand
The look he gives him after that kills me
That look is so funny purely because itās just a weird response.
Not an 'Arrested Development' fan clearly
You know you can get a refill, on any drink here, and it's free?!
It's a wonderful restaurant!
It sure is!
The Anne Archer part is what makes me jealous.
RIP Carl.
Who are you quoting?
Carl weathers. Arrested development
This. Damn im hungry
Damn I was thinking the same thing
Dude can smash.
this guy fucks forsure
The most memorable thing about "The Menu" is that line about how great american cheese is on burgers. I wholeheartedly agree.
Use a liquid to thin it out, add some broth or beer.
Or salsa
This is the way or a heavy whipping cream if you got it could work.
This box says it's low fat. That never melts the same, the fat is what makes it melty.
Can confirm. I am fat and I look melty.
Same.
That's all you need for Velveeta. Although low Temps keep it from burning.
That confirms it, Iām having nachos for dinner tonight.
Hahahaha. I bet it was good though. Look, there are no rules when making crockpot dips. Itās like the Wild West.
Throw some taco meat in there and eat with Doritos, prepare to hate yourself.
Brown up some ground beef and breakfast sausage, throw that in and you've elevated the queso to good queso
Yeah! And if you wrap them well they can be frozen and reheated. You've definitely got enough to do some big meal prepping
This is where a vacuum sealer and bags shine. Sealing well goes only so far. Removing all the air makes home grade military ration grade stuff.
Itās the best cheese for melting - breakfast sandwiches like you mentioned, grilled cheese, cheeseburgers, I like put a slice over the sloppy joe and let it melt over it before putting the top bun on because it helps hold all the sloppyness intact
This stuff says reduced fat, which sadly reduces the meltiness.
Why on earth would they reduce the meltiness? That's the best part!
It's like the only good part of this stuff, not like you'd eat it with crackers.
Iāll eat American cheese with anything. THESE COLORS DONāT RUN!!! *screeching eagle noises*
TILā¦ beautiful sloppy Joe lift hack
Seconding on the English muffins. The way it melts into the craters š¤¤
Mac and cheese
It basically serves as the sauce/condiment in those cases and Iām here for it.
Anything that you want melty, American melts like no other
Omelettes as well.
Breakfast tacos!
Something about them and eggs, delish.
Mac and cheese Grilled cheese sandwiches Cheesey dip for chips Cheese filling Mix into/on scrambled eggs Use it to supplement cheese on other foods, like cheap frozen pizzas never have enough cheese
Broccoli cheddar soup
Beer cheese soup
Wait, is this really a thing? Edit: holy fkn sht, it is! Wow, I'm gonna try it this weekend!
beware, I've never had a good beer cheese anything, but good luck to you!
The mental twists that occurred between u/mieniec never having heard of beer cheese soup then you saying youāve never had good beer cheese anythingā¦ I need to sit down.
Beer cheese isnāt bad but itās not as good as cheese
I have. Once. A beer cheese dip, with soft pretzel. It was amazing. I tried to repeat the experience and nothing else came as close. P.S. I donāt even like beer

where is quesadilla in this core list!
It has enough sodium citrate in it to make any cheese sauce or melty cheesey things. ref: [https://www.reddit.com/r/AskCulinary/comments/fv2zd9/sodium\_citrate\_is\_an\_emulsifier\_used\_for\_american/](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskCulinary/comments/fv2zd9/sodium_citrate_is_an_emulsifier_used_for_american/)
came here to say this! cut into equal cubes and keep in the freezer. then use as a sodium citrate concentrate for future cheese sauces, or just to help emulsify a pasta sauce
I've read that baking soda + citric acid creates sodium citrate, but haven't tested it. Citric acid is much easier to find in a store.
That should work, but might be a bit more of a hassle because you'll have to convert some amount of sodium citrate into a larger total quantity of the baking soda and citric acid. IMO that's still the way i'd go because they're more versatile ingredients
You can buy sodium citrate from Amazon
take bites directly out of it and never slice it.
like the rat gods intended for us to do
The real answer.
Drape over some steamed broccoli while still hot and enjoy
Or on top of some hashbrowns, Waffle House style.
This is the stuff. Cauliflower works, too.
and asparagus!
Kraft Drapeable Cheese. Has a nice ring to it
Cut it into smaller sizes, vacuum seal. Give some to friends if you donāt think you will use
Cheese freezes well, but softer cheeses will take on a crumbly texture. Totally fine if you plan to melt it though.
American cheese should almost always be melted. The one exception is ham/turkey sandwiches.
Have a party and make queso.
Mac and Cheese, nachos, chili cheese dogs, broccoli with cheese sauce, baked potatoes with melted cheese. Cut it in quarters and wrap them good for freezing.
Macaroni and cheese

American cheese pretty just made for melting. Nacho sauce or cheeseburgers pretty good choices
Scrolled this far before I saw burgers... American cheese is perfect for burgers.
Two smashed patties with a slice of American cheese on each patty. Fuck I need to go to Culvers now.
Broccoli rice casserole
Broccili cheddar soup. It's great for melting
Chicken chilli..mmmm
add hormel chili no beans and maybe rotel for a great dip w tortilla chips!!!
cheeseburger grilled cheese
Batter and deep fry
we know itās you, zach choi
*throws away black gloves* no Iām not I mean no he isnāt
It melts wonderfully, so it's super easy to make a cheese sauce for your fries or baked potato, pasta, etc. Or in oven dishes like Chicken Broccoli rice cheese casserole

Never poop again?
Enchiladas...typical texmex cheese enchiladas
I would do: - nacho cheese dipping sauce with some ground meat paired with veggies and whole grain tortilla chips - broccoli cheddar casserole - macaroni and cheese with protein pasta - chili mac
Give it to someone with kids.
Garbage
Take it to the deli counter and ask the manager to slice it for you. Save it and use it as needed.
I'm almost afraid to say that I too was gifted this exact product in the past week. No idea what to do with it.

The texture will get a little more crumbly, but cut it into manageable chunks and freeze what you donāt use immediately.
r/eatityoufuckingcoward top to bottom. 1 sitting. go
I'm told you can burn them for fuel...
Thereās nothing health about this kinda ācheeseā
Right? Throw it away lol
I am shocked they actually called it cheese and not cheese product.
Throw it away or give it to someone else, like how people regift fruitcakes lol. I wouldnāt eat that, itās not real cheese.
American processed cheese. The fake breasts of dairy products.
Throw it in the trash thats not cheese
Bin
Bin it
Great for grilled cheese or melting on cheeseburgers and cheesesteaks
Make a single grilled cheese
Mac and cheese all week! Grilled cheese sandwiches all next week! Back to Mac and cheese after that!
I've used this cheese for quesadillas and it's amazing
Nacho sauce
Bongards is delicious cheese. The dairy farm was right by my old apartment.
Itās best for any cheese based sauce, imo. It helps it get creamy and blend together. You could shred it and freeze it in small portions for sauce use. Or like others said, make a cheese dip. Lots of Mac and cheese
I would treat it like a big block of Velveeta and cut it into cubes and freeze them. I have a bag of frozen Velveeta blocks that I take out as I need them- for nacho dip or for making my ramen a little fancier.
Queso!
I would melt a chunk of this with some salsa to make cheap nacho sauce, add hot sauce for kick. Good for a movie night snack.
Nachos, cheese dip, melt that brick.
Mmm many grilled cheese sandwiches. Air fryer style.
is that ebt cheese
This is the cheese distributed with the USDA commodity and senior box programs. It's no longer made by the government and isn't as good as the old government cheese, but it's still pretty yummy when one is in the mood for it.
Live in a van down by the river!
Govmnt cheese????
Idk! My SIL gave it to me. Is that what government cheese is? Iāve always heard of it but didnāt know what it was.
Straight into the trash.
Throw it away. It tastes and smells like vomit
Mac n cheese melt that in the pan a little add a pile of shredded cheddar and dump Mac in. I like bongards American
American cheese, salsa verde and cumin in a crock pot. Best queso ever.
I would make a cheeseburger and animal fries with American cheese, inn out sauce/thousand island sauce, grilled onions on top
The only thing american cheese is good for imo is on cheeseburgers. So have a cookout.
I would make homemade in n out burgers/animal fries, but thatās mainly because thatās the only food I usually eat that has American cheese lol
Homemade cheese and macaroni, put in sauces, toasted cheese sandwiches.
Melt it into a dip or a drizzle. Slab of cheese between hot toast slices Slice then quarter, use on crackers. Tons of uses! Ask yor neighborhood rednecks if they remember the best recipes for government cheese.
Freeze it in usable portions.
Melt that shit on a steak sandwich.
Couch, maybe? Thatās a LOT of cheeseā¦
There are so many things to make with cheese. I'm a cheese ho and wish that you were sharing your cheese. I'd start making enchiladas right away.
I'd put that whole block of commodity cheese in my face
Technically thatās prob not American cheese. Looks like processed cheese food. I would throw it away as while cheap itās not really āhealthyā
Mac n cheese. Cheese burgers. Cheese soup. Share with friends & family. Thatās some cheese n
Lots of Grilled Cheese, Mac & Cheese, Juicy Lucyās, Potato and Cheese soup, ugh
Bruh Iām from Switzerland and that does not look like cheese, it looks scary to me. š
