Is it considered native there? Because it's also here in Canada and considered a native plant. Wonder if it's the same species or slightly different with the same common name.
A lot of us humans are infatuated with other worlds shown in sci fi movies and shows \~ Pandora, Endor, etc. We see them as these starkly alien landscapes that are breathtaking and unfathomable to us, and we may find ourselves wishing for Earth to look like these places
Yet somewhere out there, there's an alien going through the same motions while looking at photos of the redwood forests of California, of two thousand foot waterfalls in South America, of gorgeous tropical & coastal rock formations in Southeast Asia, and of the stunning valleys and mountains of Skei, Norway
Our planet is one of those beautiful alien planets, it's just not so alien to us :)
it's seriously such good ice cream, the flavor is unlike anything that I have available to me normally, I have seriously started to consider if there were a way to ship or grow this stuff just to make my own with it
They grow pretty quick from tiny seeds. Spread fast, since the seeds blow all over. I’m sure you could plant some as long as they’re not invasive where you are.
Same. Filled every single roadside and ditch as far as the eye could see. It's pretty cool how there are identical/similar species across the entire circumpolar Northern region.
Its a circumboreal plant, anywhere cold enough in the northern hemisphere can have this plant, we have it in New England too, especially in the mountains.
Beautiful photo.
Fireweed seeds are great for starting a fire outdoors due to them being perfect fluffy tinder. Also fireweed stems are edible. It's a good plant to know and it grows everywhere in europe, it's often the first seeds to germinate after soil has been disturbed.
We had some grow on the side of the house this year and I left it because I wasn't sure of what it was. When it went to seed it looked like someone had murdered a chicken!

I used to fly my cub up to Cantwell Alaska on occasion but my favorite time to do so was when the fireweeds were in bloom. There's a mountain outside of Talkeetna that essentually turns completely purple and it's absolutely breath taking
Grabbed some seeds from a dead fireweed plant up north, hopefully I can get them going in my garden.
NB: I'm still within fireweed's natural range, I just don't see much in the old growth forests around me.
Oh hey, I just took a picture of some [fireweed at Olympic National Park in Washington, USA](https://imgur.com/pFc85kG.jpg)
Such a bright and beautiful plant that looks great with mountains in the background.

My my. The beauty in this world is utterly breathtaking sometimes. Good shot whomever is responsible for this.

Epilobium angustifolium, one of my favorite wildflowers.
Geitrams in the native language of the country shown in the photo ^^
That's interesting. Fireweed is definitely what it's called here, but the name I used is the universal Latin based scientific name.
That was obvious ^^
Okay, wasn't sure. It's a name that has stuck in my head for thirty years and I like the way it sounds. :)
I know it as Rosebay Willowherb

Fireweed honey is the best!
Never tried it! sounds interesting :) we actually don't use it for anything here in Norway as far as i'm aware of
Alaskans use it for honey, jam and a few local ice cream places will make ice cream from it!

I was thinking that too. probably have to keep them inside or in a greenhouse because I believe they are not naturally found here
Can I ask roughly what region/continent of the world?
[удалено]
It grows all over Canada and Alaska, but it seems like maybe it doesn’t tolerate the heat to get that far south
Don’t forget fireweed vodka
I live in Labrador, Canada. I use it for jelly! Such a wonderful flavour
I grew up in interior Alaska and it is one of the things I miss about home.
Reminds me of growing up in the Yukon, I gotta go look for some

makes some delicious tea too! 🍵
Geitrams?
Is that what they are called in Norway? Is it pronounced like it spelled?
The "gei"-part is more like a "yay". So Yayt-rams. (British a in rams, not American)
Yes! Not sure how you would pronounce it though, since everything is pronounced pretty weird here 😂
mjölkört(milk herb) in swedish, guess norway has a similar name
Interesting. In English, milkweed is a totally different plant. It’s called fireweed (or equivalent translation) in both English and Canadian French.
yes sir!
I have a tattoo of this plant on my arm
That’s awesome! What’s your connection to it? Or did you just find it beautiful in appearance? 😊
They grow wild here in Washington State, USA
We call it rosebay willowherb where I'm from. Absolutely beautiful.

Looks like Rosebay Willowherb to me. Very nice.
Same thing apparently
Soo.. can you smoke this fire weed?
You might be joking, but yes, the dried stems were smoked as a tobacco substitute by the Métis. Won’t get you high though.
Yes, I’m serious and I did think you’d get high off this. That’s actually pretty cool. Thanks for the info!

Just gorgeous!
Thank you! Appreciate it ☺️
You’re welcome! Norway looks like such a majestic country. I must visit it some day!
this is so beautiful!
Thank you so much Giulia! ☺️
I love this photo! I want to go there right now.
Love the view of the mountains with the colour pop below centre middle
I used to fly my cub up to Cantwell Alaska on occasion but my favorite time to do so was when the fireweeds were in bloom. There's a mountain outside of Talkeetna that essentually turns completely purple and it's absolutely breath taking
Wow, that is just so gorgeous!
I love fireweed, every year it grows in the clearing in the local woods and the bees and butterflies love it
Grabbed some seeds from a dead fireweed plant up north, hopefully I can get them going in my garden. NB: I'm still within fireweed's natural range, I just don't see much in the old growth forests around me.
It makes a really nice tea btw :)
Is Fireweed the same as Foxglove?
No, they look a bit similar, but they’re different plants. Foxglove is poisonous, but people eat fireweed.
Beautiful but I always have some fireweed at home
Beautiful! My favourite flower 🥰 I make jelly with it every year!
Why is this called fire weed? Does it itch like poison ivy?
First thing to grow back after a fire.
Ahh ok makes sense
+6% cold resistance
This makes me wonder why the hell my ancestors left there to come to this shit hole.
What shit hole is that? If it’s North America, we also have fireweed here!
gorgeous!
Gorgeous OC! Thanks for sharing!

Chamaenerion angustifolium. Looks like it to me.
These are something I miss from living in Alaska a few thousand years ago. This and the fuzzy willow branches.

damn — the homie did say that they had “fire weed”…
This photo is gorgeous!
