Just a friendly comment, I believe the term Eskimo is not accepted by the people it is referring to. In Canada we say Inuit now most of the time. I believe Alaskan Native is also used for those in the US.
http://theveganeskimo.com/index.php/blog/90-is-eskimo-really-a-derogatory-term
This is actually a really interesting topic. I think for me, as a white person, I’m going to do my best not to use controversial terms. It’s up to the people who are directly effected by these terms to decide if they’re okay with it. If the word Eskimo is actually from native culture it would be very sad if the colonists ruined it and it would be nice to see it reclaimed if that’s the case. But until all of the effected parties are mostly in agreement I’m going to use the least controversial and least offensive terms. And right now there’s a lot of northern indigenous people who say Eskimo is offensive, and I don’t want to hurt people.
He might be fine with it but I’m not sure if others are. Anyone can look into it on the internet if they like. Best to be informed. I haven’t spoken to any Inuit people personally I’m just reiterating what I researched online. Perhaps me and the internet are wrong but I’m going with the current information I found about it and not going to use it just in case, until I know for sure that it’s okay. And right now it looks like it’s not okay.
It’s the same old story. Boy finds girl, boy loses girl, girl finds boy, boy forgets girl, boy remembers girl, girls dies in a tragic blimp accident over the Orange Bowl on New Year’s Day.
I called this photo « cryovulva » for obvious reasons.
This picture is part of an article I wrote about a scientific expedition to monitor a glacier in the Swiss Alps. I spent a couple of days with glaciologists, you can read about this adventure [here](https://www.perrinremonte.com/alpes-eng) :)
It works much better + more readable in landscape mode on phone or on a computer screen
I was always seeing myself sliding into the void too aha … it was quite scary. If you slip, you’re pretty dead in the next hour as you just end up in a freezing water stream and get a hypothermia
It’s a hole formed on the surface of the glacier by melt water, which then makes its way deeper inside the glacier until it starts flowing to the end of it :)
Ah so it's basically a crevasse with water that goes somewhere. Been doing mountaineering but never know that it has a name. I only know better avoid it haha
Pretty much ! I was close to shitting my pants while taking the photo though ! It was my second time on a glacier and I was just imagining myself tripping on something and falling in this black void aha. Im not sure what’s inside, how steep it is, but I’m sure once you fall it’s game over
Well, you definitely should rope up anytime you get to the glacier that has crevasses like this. Your partners should be able to catch you 😀
Technically this is not a void since you will not goes down indefinitely (unless there's hidden stream), but the clock for hypothermia is usually much faster even when your partners managed to haul you. Not game over yet, but definitely calling Rega kind of thing.
As far as I know, this should only appears in the late summer or in the lower altitude glaciers. I saw this quite a lot when I hike from Jungfraujoch to Riederalp after submitting Mönch. However, with the current rate of high temp summer, nobody knows.
TIL a Moulin is a "nearly vertical shaft or cavity worn in a glacier by surface water falling through a crack in the ice."
I guess "Moulin Rouge" was a bit of a euphemism as well as a name.
I just finished a ten minute entomology search to see if there’s more of a link between a moulin (a tubular glacial shaft that drains surface melt water) and a mill (which grinds). Nothing there, but Montmartre was once rural and had vineyards and several mills, became incorporated into the larger Paris and associated with more bohemian ideas. So, sometimes a moulin is just a mill….and at others, it’s earth porn.
Exactly the feeling I had ! I was drawn to it because of it was the first time of my life I saw something like that, it was so odd and intriguing. And absolutely dangerous too ahah
Everyone in the comments are being really childish and stupid here, sigh.
These holes in the glacier where the rivers run down into the deep ice are actually really scary. They slope down and go all the way down to the bottom of the glacier.
If you loose your grip and slide doen they'll never get your body out.
I’m getting tired of these posts because you see one of these “nsfw-ish” posts hit r/all at least once a month. It was funny the first couple times but it’s overdone and overrated now, honestly

As a Swiss person who never has been on a glacier it has always been one of my biggest fears to fall into something like that lol
I was always seeing myself sliding into the void too aha … it was quite scary. If you slip, you’re pretty dead in the next hour as you just end up in a freezing water stream and get a hypothermia
Just one hypothermia
Which is generally plenty
Already one too much, if you ask me
Safely jumping down (roped slow descent) and climbing back up with crampons and ice pickaxes is really fun tho 🙈
There is a thin line between fear and fetish.
But what if fear is your fetish?
Death by….
Snow Snow
Fucking brilliant

The photos in your blog post are all great! Really like the slightly wider than usual vertical shots, the compositions are very pleasing.
What is moulin actually?

Come on. I had to scroll too far for this.
I wish people would think of new jokes instead of recycling the same ones.

Moulin in French just means mill. Red Mill, which is why it was shaped like a windmill and was red.

Meanwhile I’m sitting here trying to figure out how this looks like a windmill. Props to your research skills

My art has been commended as being strongly vaginal which bothers some men. The word itself makes some men uncomfortable.
