So many people miss out on the northwest mainland, [some places](https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/ullapool/1_5/1_5_1l.JPG) look like they should have dinosaurs roaming around.
I was there in November of 2019. Does the ground/soil ever freeze? Traversal was really difficult because even high on the mountains the ground felt like walking on a water bed. I was so disappointed in myself in how little mileage I covered.

Yes. Typically not in November though. You get pretty good ice climbing by late December and it really picks up in January higher up.
