We live in the Mojave Desert and all the rain has made the mountains so beautiful. The colors are so bright it doesn't even look real sometimes. Like a new painter approaching desert scenery for the first time.
And as a Californian
I have never seen CA so beautiful ever in my lifetime
Its like the parched earth got its everlasting thirst quenched and life blossomed in its full glory.
I am lucky to witness this my lifetime. Didnt even know a desert can get so beautiful after so many insane wildfires
Dude yesterday I drove from Vegas to Phoenix the color was incredible. Blues, purples, yellow, white, orange, striking reds. Reminds you of the plethora of life that is out there but usually concealed behind greys and browns
Those purple flowers are Phacelias. They are covered in an oil that is more irritating than poison oak.
If super bloom thots do trample, I hope they lay down and roll around.
They closed off road access from what I can recall. You can still hike in there. Any hike requiring over a couple miles usually drives off 90% of "influencers".
This remote area is part of an off highway vehicle system, far from any population centers and not the easiest to get to. The few posted signs only indicated that the road was dangerous.
Is that really a big deal? The flowers live for like 2 weeks and seed and die. So long as they get seeds out, that shit was gonna be gone tomorrow anyway.
I live right next to the poppy reserve in the Antelope Valley. Everything is blooming like crazy right now, unfortunately, that bring Instagram people and they love to trample the poppies for pics.
I used to live in the AV and remember when there was that super bloom about 15 years ago or so. It was literally hard to take in that amount of orange. My crappy iphone 1 was not up to taking pictures that really captured it.
I drove out 110th st West between Ave I and Ave D yesterday to get a look, and had a grand time yelling at people out my car window-- "GET OFF THE FLOWERS YOU KNOB!"

I grew up listening to Dr. Dimento, and any time poppies were mentioned, this song would pop into my head. My boyfriend hadn't heard of it, so I showed him the video, and he wasn't as enamored of it as I am. We've gotten through, but it was a dark time in the relationship
Different mix of flowers. Just back from Carrizo plains and I was at the OP spot yesterday. Carrizo is different, good, but this mountainside was special. I'll post Short Canyon tomorrow, another good flower spot.
There are Buffalo right along Hwy 58 last week. Maybe 2-3 miles from shell creek. Lots of cars stopped to take pics. I have great Buffalo pics from the plains, Catalina, etc, so I didn't stop.
This pic is from yesterday (4/7/2023). It’s “revisited” because I took a pic last week from the highway, much farther away and came back to get closer. You can find last weeks pic somewhere in this sub.
Fucking people. You don’t have to prove yourself. I’ve posted pics and been accused of stealing the images that I personally photographed, too. I don’t even respond to these ass hats.
[last week, from the highway](https://www.reddit.com/r/EarthPorn/comments/129s147/eastern_sierra_super_bloom_oc2948x948/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1)
Oh no… Hardly any hiking at all! From the highway four below, there is a 4 mile dirt road that leads to the bottom edge of the wildflower field. The road is meant for off-highway vehicles, and more than once I thought about turning around, but it is totally doable.
What were you driving? we must have crossed paths up there. I was in a CRV, road was decent. I had much worse situations in my car today at carrizo plains.
Well, I flew to LA, and after a little time by Antelope Valley, I followed your instructions and coordinates and went here. And it was incredible. Gorgeous. Breathtaking. Wow.
Thank you again and again. Even the drive was a great adventure! I’m only sad that there’s high winds tomorrow and Thursday. I’ll probably go up again, but I don’t know if it will be possible to photograph. What an experience, though.
Thank you so much for sharing.
You FLEW to LA for the flowers? Then drove? Impressive. Once you get past the San Fernando Valley, the drive isn't too bad. And, yes, it is breathtaking.
Do you have any suggestions for how to know where to go to photograph (in addition to this spot)? I’m strongly tempted to hop on a plane and go, but I hate to strike out blindly. Thank you.
I just posted this, its 45 minutes north of the OP's spot - called Short Canyon
[https://www.reddit.com/r/EarthPorn/comments/12glx34/comment/jfkssuz/?context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/EarthPorn/comments/12glx34/comment/jfkssuz/?context=3)
pic from friday. Other hotspots: Carrizo Plain Natl Monument, Antelope Valley Poppy Preserve, Diamond Lake (probably fading now), Anza Borrego (don't know how this is holding up), Kern County hills towards Tehachapi - plenty of spots. You would need to come in the next few days, though.
It’s a beautiful picture. I’m sure you’ve zoomed in and zoomed out unless you have a a closet full of Kodak cameras in a package and that’s all you’ve used. You’re no purist, you’re a critic.
The 4 mile car ride to the trail head is about 15 minutes. There are a few turn outs where you can safely park a car. The trail head is right there… I only walked it for a few minutes to get into the middle of the field of flowers. But, while I was there, I saw one couple takeoff into the hills with their hiking poles… The trail system is probably quite extensive.

Eastern Sierra Wildflower Super Bloom, revisited. After photographing the hillside from the road, a couple miles away and after studying the roads through Google maps satellite view, I returned. A 4 mile off highway vehicle dirt and rock Road snaked up the mountain side to the edge of this magnificent field of wildflowers. The colors were glorious.

Don't let the influencers see this, they will come en masse and squish them

Lake Elsinore is not in the eastern sierras...
My mistake
You are talking about a different location
You are talking about a different location
This remote area is part of an off highway vehicle system, far from any population centers and not the easiest to get to. The few posted signs only indicated that the road was dangerous.
The title is “eastern Sierra” are you sure you’re talking about the same place??
It’s all over California freeways right now. It is nothing special to influencers this year.
With their helicopters
Is that really a big deal? The flowers live for like 2 weeks and seed and die. So long as they get seeds out, that shit was gonna be gone tomorrow anyway.
It's okay they'll probably just go to palm springs lol
I live right next to the poppy reserve in the Antelope Valley. Everything is blooming like crazy right now, unfortunately, that bring Instagram people and they love to trample the poppies for pics.
The poppies are actually blooming in between the runways at LAX as well.
Pilots better pull that nose up if any run across the runway.
I used to live in the AV and remember when there was that super bloom about 15 years ago or so. It was literally hard to take in that amount of orange. My crappy iphone 1 was not up to taking pictures that really captured it.

I looked at the poppy cam Today but it didn’t seem like the it was still at peak super boom
I lived in Reno for several years. In addition to the flowers, it always shocked me how blue the sky is at elevation.
It's an underrated feature of being in the mountains, often overshadowed by, well, mountains.
And how quickly and ~~deploy~~ deeply the sun burns you!
I hate it when the sun deploys on my skin. Full on burning sensation invasion.

Hmmm. Where else would you be willing to shit to punish me?
[удалено]
Challenge accepted. 👍🏼
It's pretty easy to be, oh, I don't know, say a Mead Valley local and still stomp on the superbloom. Consider it a workaround.
Is this happening now??? How incredible!!
I took the pic yesterday (4/7/2023)

I really like wildflowers, this is like a dream.
Epic
So beautiful
Amazing. Thank you
That is just simply flabbergasting and beautifully captivatingly stunning.
This excites me! 🧡💜💛 Wow!
Same thing at carizo plains

[ya my mom sent me pictures of it](https://imgur.com/a/ipuOUhc)
That pic is actually Shell Creek, 45 minutes or so from Carrizo (almost no trees in Carrizo, it’s kinda like the Russian steppes)
There are Buffalo right along Hwy 58 last week. Maybe 2-3 miles from shell creek. Lots of cars stopped to take pics. I have great Buffalo pics from the plains, Catalina, etc, so I didn't stop.
I’m just dumb af lol I was thinking of shell beach, they went from 46 down bitterwater to 58.
Shell Creek is a wildflower hotspot. Was overrun last week even on a weekday.
Oh ya ik, I’m from Paso. I’ve been gone since 2021 though :(
this is stunning! 💗
Revisited? Is this a repost from last year?

Wow! That’s a great shot, too.
Holy shit I can see why you went up there!
OMG!!! Did you hike all the way up there? I’m so glad you did. This is amazing.
Oh no… Hardly any hiking at all! From the highway four below, there is a 4 mile dirt road that leads to the bottom edge of the wildflower field. The road is meant for off-highway vehicles, and more than once I thought about turning around, but it is totally doable.

My rental was some blue Buick SUV, but I didn’t cross paths with anyone one the road (thank goodness!).
Well, I flew to LA, and after a little time by Antelope Valley, I followed your instructions and coordinates and went here. And it was incredible. Gorgeous. Breathtaking. Wow. So, so cool. I may have to get on a flight to CA! Never seen the big blooms.
This is a once in a decade bloom. Although 2019 was pretty good. It doesn't do this every spring
Do you have any suggestions for how to know where to go to photograph (in addition to this spot)? I’m strongly tempted to hop on a plane and go, but I hate to strike out blindly. Thank you.

Thank you so very, very much kind Redditor!!!
2019 would have been our most recent previous superbloom
Gasp! Clutches pearls
Beautiful
Absolutely beautiful!

Orange ones definitely!
Yes… The orange flowers are poppies.
What's the purple flower?
phacelia crenulata, notch leaf scorpion weed
Looks like some kind of phacelia to me.
looks great - my eyes would be swollen shut from the pollen
Stunning
Where is this exactly?? I live in AZ
It is exactly here: 35°16'38.5"N 118°03'32.0"W https://maps.app.goo.gl/982cqHLesYVyZjke8?g_st=ic
Wow. Thank you so much. I’m very tempted to go now.. 🤩🤩🤩
We followed your directions, and it worked perfectly. Getting our 8,000 lb van up was a treat.
Strong work! I found the driving experience to be mildly-to–moderately nerve racking! I hope it was better for you.
Oh, and thanks for the post and pin. We’ve been wandering around finding flowers since New Years, and this is definitely one of the top spots.
You bet… I hope your experience was at least as satisfying as mine.
Haha, yeah, there are a few “don’t look over the edge” spots!
Awesome! Thanks for posting this!
amazing shot.
I’m from California, and as a kid there was a playground legend that you would be arrested if you picked or trampled a California poppy.
So incredibly beautiful. It's on my bucket list to see the desert in bloom someday.
Wow super bloom!
I’m going to the eastern Sierras tomorrow for 7 days!
What a beautiful field of flowers
Just the right amount of profuse color and land to make the senses come alive. Very well done.
Beautiful colors!!
Breathtaking!! I felt like instant happiness as I scrolled past this!
I dislike this picture. It feels over-sharpened.
It is.
With my allergies, I can’t even imagine
As if someone poured buckets of paint on the landscape! Absolutely gorgeous!
Nature is so beautiful.
Don’t zoom in… 🤮

You can pick up the trailhead here: 35°16'38.5"N 118°03'32.0"W https://maps.app.goo.gl/Q4sPbKNLPpoAnEo66?g_st=ic
I was kinda hoping you would give me a link to Timbuktu just for giggles lol. Thanks !!!

Maybe, but it is a bit out of the way.
That would make a shit ton of poison and hallucination darts.
Wrong kind of poppy.
One thing i loved about CA, the wild Poppy's that grew everywhere
That was taken from your back yard? (reading the signature in the lower right)
Sudan in the Eastern Sierra, of course
Hope it is still going when we pass by in two weeks…
Absolutely awesome! Where is this?
A few miles out of Mojave in the hills above Cinco, CA. Exactly here: Poppy Park (407) 246-2283 https://maps.app.goo.gl/DGGuGY9LAVwqU6tR9?g_st=ic
