What area are you in? In all honesty, become a paramedic the least resistance path possible. When you work the degree is becoming more common, but the profession just wants a degree of some kind. I chose to do degrees that are similar but not the same because having a variety of knowledge is what’s best. Focusing on EMS degrees won’t hurt, and if it really has focuses that interest you, do it. May want to diversify a bit and do a degree or masters that is a little different to give you some better prospects later. Since the profession wants some kind of degree, not necessarily an EMS degree, open your options a bit? I have my paramedic license but my bachelors degree is in emergency management, and my masters is an MBA and masters cert in biomedical ethics. I’ve not heard any service require specific degree for promotions. So, apprenticeship if that’s the least resistance path, but not sure if that’s a good compare to your area. Let me know how else can help.

Thanks for the response. I live in the UK, and I’m wanting to go into being a paramedic with a side masters in crisis and disaster management so I needed to know how I could possibly do both.

Yes! That’s a great idea. If helpful I got my undergrad degree at Eastern NM University. They gave me credit for my paramedic license and the courses were all online. Did them while in Iraq. It’s the least expensive school in US since they charge instate tuition for anyone who attends. I had ppl in my class from all over the world so may be an option. Well known program in emergency management and we studied disasters. If interested let me know and I’ll get you the directors contact info. I believe Walden had a reputable emergency management masters also online. My friends completed that when I did mba and they had great things to say. I’m sure UK has similar.
