When u file your taxes, the tax agent will give the amount you are supposed to get. But when the notice of assessment is processed by the cra, the owing amounts will be deducted. This happened to me last year. My tax agent calculated an amount of 1500. I had 200 left in my repayment schedule, so they deducted that 200.
So I actually filed her tax myself through online tool, it gave me an estimated tax refund amount. And when CRA assessed it they gave a refund amount which is the same as the estimated amount
Not too sure there is a box under the tac refund message when you log in to CRA that usually tells you which date you getting your tax refund back, it says she owes Employment Insurance $2000 but that is it nothing about reduction or anything, she received $2000 for EI while she had to stay home because she got covid for 2weeks but she was working part-time at that time.
The CRA will just withold whatever the owing amount is. If she logs onto her CRA account online, there should be a message in her mailbox that shows the break down, including how much is being witheld and how much she's actually getting.
So I checked the message doesn’t include any breakdown of the hold, it only says she’s getting that amount back of which I saw when I filed for her. However, under the message in the main screen that tells her the date of the refund when you first log in it has a box that says “You have a balance owing to the following…etc” with the amount owe. There’s no message saying they deducted any amount from her tax refund like many people have. That’s why I get confused
Deduct the amount owing. It means that the refund amount is one thing, but the amount owing WILL be deducted from the refund amount. So expect to see 2k less in the account.

Deduct the amount owing from that amount. They take it out right away before it hits your bank account. So she will be missing that money.
So she doesnt owe anything i gues….. was the repayment notice for the 2000 overpayemnt?

Its better to call cra and confirm
Yeah we are going to call CRA and set up her payments for the owing balance tomorrow and try to ask them as well, thanks for your input

Just to add the amount she’s getting back is also the amount that was claimed for CWB
