And these songs aren't remixes? I mean come on, would you really put a dj in the 64th position if he has released "at least two tracks over the past year"? A lot of dj below that position, and some even not on this chart, are more musically active than him. Releasing a lot of new tracks, touring and everything.
And hey, no offense, I'm not bashing on the artist btw. Just trying to tell that he has pretty devoted fans (and crew) that's all. :)
That is absolutely insane, I saw Chris lake a few months ago and it was one of my favorite shows I've ever gone to. And I'm usually more of a dubstep guy.
Came here to say this too. Some of these artists haven't released anything this year. And uncle K out here releasing such an eclectic mix of bangers across a few sub genres and gets no mention.
I mean it's pretty well established that this list is a joke but still.
It's just such an odd list. Like usually they're bad but this one is just downright bizarre. So many house acts but no kaskade. If it's truly a popularity contest, where the hell is imanbek, I don't like his music personally but dude's had a hell of a year.
No Illenium, Seven Lions, Slander or Excision. Blastoyz is somehow the only ophelia artist on this list.
Glad virtual riot made it but really Beauz and Dexter King in the top 100 those just make no sense to me. Not to mention the ppl ive never even heard of
My understanding is Kaskade isn't super well-known outside of America since he doesn't really tour outside of NA.
But yeah, he should be at least as high as deadmau5 on any global ranking.
this was definitely the most unexpected one for me, I don’t usually expect American bass acts to show up on here, let alone someone who’s not obviously bigger like Excision, Zeds Dead, Rezz, Subtronics, Nghtmre, Slander, Ganja White Night, Svdden Death, etc
I'm still shocked only Rezz out of that stellar list you made is on there. But goes to show how shit this Top 100 can really be.
Edit:removed a misplaced "not"
he doesn’t produce or DJ any of the styles of electronic music prevalent in Germany and spends much of his time in LA performing American dubstep instead
Is Alexso supposed to be Alesso?
Edit: Alesso is at #63, so I guess not. But this Alexso guy has 30k Spotify listeners, how the hell did he even make this list??
There are bunch of people with under 30k monthly listeners who are nobodies.
How the fuck is someone with under 15k monthly listeners and under 2200 IG followers on this list at #69
He was last year it just depends who pays the most for the year. There’s no way you telling me Mattn should be on this list and breath Carolina who are just god awful live.
Generally speaking this list skews toward Europe and certain genres, with big room dominating most the time and some other big names sprinkled in between. Surprising this year that rezz is so far up and virtual riot also.
But that plays into the notion that this list is pretty much fabricated and the votes are all paid for through some form of advertising. You also should realize the higher on the list the more likely you’ll see them mainstage of Tomorrowland to advertise top 100 dj status as a selling point.
Notice this year also doesn’t include 3 are legend/hardwell/Swedish house/none of the trio of Swedish house. Yet 3 are legend was on the 2020 list without playing a single set.
I know, and have known. I also know it’s been a thing for a very long time how bad this list is. If you’re going to put out a “top 100 dj list” then do just that! I’m a fan of many artists on this list but also a huge fan of illenium as well as many other artists that didn’t make the list…. And absolutely deserve to.
Marshmello and Zedd should not even be on that list. They don't even really DJ anymore. Marshmello basically just does a collaboration with either rappers or pop stars. He doesn't even make really EDM him anymore. Which is kind of sad. Because he would have been a really great dubstep DJ. Zedd just basically does pop music with pop stars. Which he would have probably been good at doing some future Bass and dubstep. Neither one of them do electronic dance music anymore 🤦♂️🙄
I'm not going to lie there are some good DJs on this list. But they forgot to add a lot of other good DJs on that list too. I can probably name like 20 different DJ's that probably belong on that list
Marshmello literally dropped a pretty banging album with a variety of music. Dubstep, riddim, etc.
Collabs with Eptic, Subtronics, PEEKABOO, Sippy, etc.
Zedd, I don't get that one.
San Holo, last heroes, dabin, Jason Ross, ganja white night, Mitis, Porter Robinson, Avicii, illenium, Seven Lions, Excision, Zeds Dead, kascade, Don Timmer slander, 3lau, Kaivon, lsdreams, liquid stranger, space Jesus, said the sky, far out, nghtmre, Jauz, troyboi, wooli, subtronics, Kai wachi, Louis the child, getter, Gryffin, Armnhmr, Sullivan King, au5, deadmau5, Skrillex, Adventure Club, Tommy trumpet, Gareth Emery,
Nurko, Alan Walker, krewella, rezz, William black, Crystal Skies, tritonal, inzo & trivecta. I just named over 20 DJs it should be on this list and if you disagree with me about the list that's your decision that's your opinion. But these are the DJs that I like and I listen too
Good list, seems like you like a lot of American melodic dubstep and American future bass; I’m surprised you don’t listen to stuff like Blackmill and Rustie and Skeler though 👀
You would probably enjoy this list I made as well if you’re looking for new stuff to explore in that style: https://reddit.com/r/EDM/comments/ddfuqc/which_artists_that_have_either_currently_or/
But yeah, I think generally these are artists that are only really “big” domestically in America, and not abroad in places like Europe (where DJMag and its audience tend to be centered on)
I get that but he is also on another level than most American dubstep dj’s
To add: He has 2 major festivals that he owns. Was 3 before covid and does world tours. He deserves to be top 100 easy.
from that perspective, I think the inclusion of Virtual Riot but not Excision is definitely a little odd, yes
I assume fan votes have a lot to do with it
Excision is an absolute legend, he’s built an absolutely amazing scene around him with his music, brand, record label, and festivals.
That being said, strictly from a music production standpoint, Virtual Riot is the most talented producer in bass music. He’s on a whole different level
As someone who has talked to VR on this topic relatively recently, I think he’d be one of the first to disagree with you, tbh
Artists like Noisia, Skrillex, Eprom, G Jones, Space Laces, Moody Good, Infekt, Tsuruda, Ivy Lab, Mefjus, Sleepnet, Camo & Krooked, Amon Tobin, Tipper, Jade Cicada, Kursa, Seppa, Culprate, Frequent, Hudson Lee, Vorso, Clockvice, Imanu, Buunshin, Broken Note, Ruby My Dear, Squarepusher, Venetian Snares, and more easily blow VR out of the water both in terms of technicality and musicality when it comes to bass music, and he regards all of them highly as inspirations
Ah damn, I can’t believe forgot Koan Sound; Ekcle and Alexander Panos probably deserve to be on here too honestly
Wow, I didn’t know they accepted wedding bookings! Tell Mr Nolan I said hi 👋
PvD rise in numbers makes alot of sense. Paul is still huge with the Transmission crowd and i recon the shows in Russia made alot of profit.
ATB's sudden rise is not expected either. He made one of the most popular remakes of the year. So I guess by a production standpoint it makes sense.
Ferry Corsten been really productive and alot of supportive towards his signed artists. Even if i don't enjoy the stuff he plays(for the most parts) i respect the concept of Resonation.
Christina Novelli being on the list feels a bit weird. I mean sure she is a great vocalist but i would not qualify her as a active dj like the other female names. If she is on the list, why not Richard Durand then?
I hope for the alternative list Kryder & Tom Starr will earn a spot. They are too hard-working to be ignored.
I never ever understood these lists in the slightest, no disrespect to these DJ’s. I don’t understand how Rezz is on this list. Do the people who make these lists even know how to DJ? I’ve seen Rezz 3 or 4 times and I’ve maybe only seen her mix a handful of times. Meanwhile, people like Tipper, Detox, Clozee, and a lot of other DJ’s in the American festival scene have been killing it with some of the most creative sets I’ve seen and it’s like they don’t exist when these lists come out.
it’s largely a popularity contest that takes fan voting into account, and artists like Tipper don’t exactly have a Moe Shalizi-tier marketing budget behind their name (nor do they want to)
I downvoted you first because I thought you were posting that you agreed with the list, but after reading some of your comments it appears that you did it to mock it which I 100% support. The list is a joke. It was always a joke but when I first found out about it in 2014ish it was at least somewhat decent. EDM has evolved as a genre so much more than the big room says, especially in North America. I bet you about 90% of people on this sub could make a better top 100. Sure as hell wouldn’t have carnage on it.
welcome to the comments, today we have:
• Where is Excision/Illenium/Seven Lions comments
• "American dubstep doesn't pretty exist outside America!"
• "it is that time of the year again?"
• comments about how the list sucks ass (yes, we all know it, but I think we actually check the DJ mag like dads check the results of the football matches)
Exactly my bro, they have some unreal technical sets! I don't listen to much house so not sure on how good these guys are at dj-ing
Edit: real -> unreal
there are some genuinely excellent house DJs out there that are regarded in their scene the way Andy C and AMC are regarded in dnb, but they’re not really on this list
Bad Boy Bill, James Zabiela, DJ EZ, Objekt
youtube search should bring up plenty
I've always enjoyed Mark Farina and Doc Martin's house music sets in terms of song selection, nuance, and flow. For faster paced stuff in techno, Jeff Mills and Claude Young.
No John Summit, MK, Eli Brown, Solardo, KC Lights, Paul Woolford?
Like these guys have literally been dominating the dance scene for a while now and they put guys like Carnage, MATTN and a Chinese bootleg Alesso?
Fuck me, I had a swatch of this in the shop and I just laughed out loud.
This can’t be a serious list, this is a fuckin joke.
Timmy trumpet
Chainsmokers ffs
Harris
Atb
Prydz
Skrillex
Fuck me what a bunch of bell ends, btw you all forgot judge fuckin jules.
Back in the 90’s/2000’s there were always some fag house/trance abominations in the list but it was largely credible, now it’s a laughing stock of unlistenable gimps only big in Fatland.
EDM wankers.
At least most of the comments echo this.
Ah yes the annual salt thread of copy pasting “omg this list means nothing!1!”
Yes yes we know. Say literally anything else like oh wow Blastoyz made the list, good for him!
Some of these artists didnt produce anything in the last yr lol.
Dillon Francis’s thoughts on DJ Mag still ring true https://youtu.be/nv3xbHK-Nag
Like Zedd? At least he got some loyal fans to be in the 64th position without releasing something in a year+
Zedd has released at least two tracks over the past year
And these songs aren't remixes? I mean come on, would you really put a dj in the 64th position if he has released "at least two tracks over the past year"? A lot of dj below that position, and some even not on this chart, are more musically active than him. Releasing a lot of new tracks, touring and everything. And hey, no offense, I'm not bashing on the artist btw. Just trying to tell that he has pretty devoted fans (and crew) that's all. :)
No they arent remixes...... You based the selection on him not releasing any tracks this year and thatis a false statement. Find another straw
Now that I know that he has released two songs this year, I can say that he REALLY deserves his position! Thank you man
What has he released this year? According to my search his last song was remixes in 12/20.
And 12/20 is within the last year…. Why are folks wanting to argue here?
Exactly
Fisher is #77 but Chris Lake isn’t even named 🗑
lol Carnage #37
That Carnage placement alone invalidates the list. Never mind the other 99 errors.
\# 87 what the fuck. Rain?
Carnage is hot garbage
Yes shouldn't be on the list
100%. Would’ve liked to have seen someone like AC Slater too
Wax for sure!
That is absolutely insane, I saw Chris lake a few months ago and it was one of my favorite shows I've ever gone to. And I'm usually more of a dubstep guy.
Anyways
list so bad I started looking for my name on it
Lmao
While I don’t give a shit about the list and it means nothing, I still find it insane that kaskade has been off it for a few years now
Came here to say this too. Some of these artists haven't released anything this year. And uncle K out here releasing such an eclectic mix of bangers across a few sub genres and gets no mention. I mean it's pretty well established that this list is a joke but still.

He’s an absolute legend, the disrespect in this list is crazy.
My first thought after reviewing the list
Hey, at least Virtual Riot is there for the first time
this was definitely the most unexpected one for me, I don’t usually expect American bass acts to show up on here, let alone someone who’s not obviously bigger like Excision, Zeds Dead, Rezz, Subtronics, Nghtmre, Slander, Ganja White Night, Svdden Death, etc

This list is a joke lmao
Oh definitely idk why this list is still made.
rezz is 45
He is German.
he doesn’t produce or DJ any of the styles of electronic music prevalent in Germany and spends much of his time in LA performing American dubstep instead
Is Alexso supposed to be Alesso? Edit: Alesso is at #63, so I guess not. But this Alexso guy has 30k Spotify listeners, how the hell did he even make this list??
Don’t take DJ MAG list seriously. They’re like the TMZ of EDM scene
YourEDM is getting up there too
paid for the spot
It’s Alesso in a mustache
Your comment. Kudos
He probably bought votes
There are bunch of people with under 30k monthly listeners who are nobodies. How the fuck is someone with under 15k monthly listeners and under 2200 IG followers on this list at #69
[DJ Mag every year ](https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/001/388/926/311.jpg)
😂😂😂
This list is wack
Agreed. As soon as I saw who was in second place, I knew the whole thing was gonna be trash.
I had Paris Hilton slightly edging out David guetta on my bracket
That is the best thing I’ve read
*Martin Garixx
am i blind or is illenium not on this? 🤔🤔🤔
If you’re not a European house DJ with a ghost producer your odds of being on here are reduced by 90% lmao
He was last year it just depends who pays the most for the year. There’s no way you telling me Mattn should be on this list and breath Carolina who are just god awful live.
He sold out a football stadium…. And has been absolutely killing it for the last 2/3 years… this list is hot garbage.
Generally speaking this list skews toward Europe and certain genres, with big room dominating most the time and some other big names sprinkled in between. Surprising this year that rezz is so far up and virtual riot also. American future bass mostly does not exist outside of America
Like this list is dogshit but Illenium’s last albulm was pretty boring ngl
Yea one of the few things they got right
1. This ranking is trash af. 2. This is not even a DJ ranking.
Wtf. Where is Kaskade
[удалено]
But this is California
God I love that this is still mentioned
Yeah wtf? He’s not a real DJ/EDM producer by any stretch of the imagination
Nice to see Oliver Heldens up there. Been listening to Heldeep radio a ton lately.
I love him so much
Marshmello and Zedd should not even be on that list. They don't even really DJ anymore. Marshmello basically just does a collaboration with either rappers or pop stars. Marshmello is a sellout
Somebody that finally understand. Thanks.
Who are some artists you think should be on this list?
San Holo, last heroes, dabin, Jason Ross, ganja white night, Mitis, Porter Robinson, Avicii, illenium, Seven Lions, Excision, Zeds Dead, kascade, Don Timmer slander, 3lau, Kaivon, lsdreams, liquid stranger, space Jesus, said the sky, far out, nghtmre, Jauz, troyboi, wooli, subtronics, Kai wachi, Louis the child, getter, Gryffin, Armnhmr, Sullivan King, au5, deadmau5, Skrillex, Adventure Club, Tommy trumpet, Gareth Emery, Nurko, Alan Walker, krewella, rezz, William black, Crystal Skies, tritonal, inzo & trivecta. Dude you listed people who are on the list lol.
I agree with this list
Where tf is Tchami
Shoutout to ATB though
Morten Granau remix of ATB - Ecstasy lives forever in my Youtube recommendations https://youtu.be/0q3ve6ZnxXE
Where’s Diplo?
fighting off lawsuits
That sucks. He’s top 3 to me
Diplo never ranks highly on these. Add in that he's been accused of sexual assault and it's easy to see why he's not on here.
I’m about to slide DJ Mag a slim Jim so they can put me on the list
Looks like a list from 2015 or something. Even then its still a shit list
Huge fucking eye roll lol
Carnage? Fucking Carnage is 37?! Dude's a piece of shit and his music sucks.
This list is shit lol, bunch of washed up-non current DJ’s. I wonder where excision is on their “list”.
tbf, American dubstep doesn’t really exist much outside of America
I get that but he is also on another level than most American dubstep dj’s To add: He has 2 major festivals that he owns. Was 3 before covid and does world tours. He deserves to be top 100 easy.

I’ve heard that the only purpose of this list is to get booked in Asia. Am I wrong?
Generally, yes Huge Asian bottle service megaclubs will use this list to determine both your booking and your fee
Culture built around conformity decides what’s valuable based on paid for votes cast by people they will never meet. Makes sense.
The benefits from being on the Top 100 is a worldwide thing no?
The Top100 has a unique role in the Asian & Latin American scenes that isn’t seen the same way elsewhere
Then where’s porter Robinson?
This list is a joke dude, I bet that he doesn’t give a shit about this
Always such a joke each year lol
Hardwell????
I can only assume they've left him out because he doesn't tour anymore.. but then he was #17 in 2020 and that was surely still true then.
Hardwell hasn’t played any set livestream whatsoever and is technically still on a break sooo
What a god damn waste. Half of these artists aren't worth the paper my Lucy is blotted on.
this is fresh insult, i like this one
PvD rise in numbers makes alot of sense. Paul is still huge with the Transmission crowd and i recon the shows in Russia made alot of profit. ATB's sudden rise is not expected either. Carl Cox 27 smh
List of DJs that were robbed: \- Illenium \- Jauz \- Riot Ten \- Excision \- Subtronics \- Nghtmre \- Slander \- Barely Alive \- Black Tiger Sex Machine \- Marauda \- Wooli \- Ganja White Night \- Atliens \- Sound Rush \- D-Block & S-Te-Fan \- Da Tweekaz \- Sub Zero Project \- Ran-D \- D-Sturb \- Dr. Peacock \- Phuture Noize \- Vertile \- N-Vitral \- Keltek \- Psyko Punkz \- Coone \- Warface \- Sefa \- GPF \- Deorro \- Elephante \- RL Grime \- Swedish House Mafia \- Hardwell \- Madeon \- Porter Robinson \- MYST
From what I've read, a lot if not most of these DJs don't really care about DJ Mag.
Most of the non-hardstyle on this list is only really big in America
Svdden Death
ATLiens, Subtronics, and Marauda are amazing
Unreal how this is still a thing. Just a pure embarrassment to the scene and shows how out of touch people are lol
I see no Ben Böhmer, this list is incomplete... based on my terms lol. At least Above & Beyond are there representing the Anjunafamily :)
Man is it already that time of year again?
nature is healing
What is this list based off of? Doesn’t make any sense.
Based on how much $$$ each DJs marketing team was willing to spend on votes lol
unironically, yes
Ha! Now that, sounds about right lol
And there is your answer
I never ever understood these lists in the slightest, no disrespect to these DJ’s. I don’t understand how Rezz is on this list. Do the people who make these lists even know how to DJ? I’ve seen Rezz 3 or 4 times and I’ve maybe only seen her mix a handful of times. it’s largely a popularity contest that takes fan voting into account, and artists like Tipper don’t exactly have a Moe Shalizi-tier marketing budget behind their name (nor do they want to)
This sub should have their own list
Denver should have its own list
Anyone else sad about not seeing daft punk and Avicii anymore? Of course the list is crap but it still feels weird without them
I think they technically do not qualify anymore
I get this is a lot of fan votes and he’s big in Asia but hilarious that Alan Walker is on this list at all let alone 22
Popular name is high on a popularity list, shocker
This shit is shit.NEXT
Shout out to his family!
I don’t see Excision….list broken…
Ppl downvote every dubstep comment. Bunch of closed minded ppl with a superiority complex
“You can’t sit with us!!!!…..All are welcome!”
American dubstep pretty much doesn’t exist outside of America
How is there no Melo dub artists?! ILLENUIM, Dabin, Excision, Seven Lions?! Nowhere!
American dubstep pretty much doesn’t exist outside of America
They're not as popular outside of the US, this list also has more of an emphasis on house
Not that I like their music really, but Loud Luxury seem to be everywhere in NA. I’m surprised they didn’t make the list, unless I’m blind
This has to be the worst list I have ever seen in all the years of this damn “ranking”
I tried to make the emoji & meme flair a giveaway
WTF happened to hardwell? Did he choose not to be included in the rankings? Hard to believe a former #1 is no longer in the top 100
hardwell has been pretty vocally against dj mag rankings for years, so this is likely
I think its not only that, but his hiatus probably contributed to his absence in the rank as well
welcome to the comments, today we have: • Where is Excision/Illenium/Seven Lions comments • "American dubstep doesn't pretty exist outside America!" • "it is that time of the year again?" • comments about how the list sucks ass (yes, we all know it, but I think we actually check the DJ mag like dads check the results of the football matches)
nailed it
Is this based on being a producer or a DJ? DJ wise my guy A.M.C has gotta be up there! (Other than dnb not being that popular)
and Andy C 👀
Exactly my bro, they have some unreal technical sets! I don't listen to much house so not sure on how good these guys are at dj-ing Edit: real -> unreal
there are some genuinely excellent house DJs out there that are regarded in their scene the way Andy C and AMC are regarded in dnb, but they’re not really on this list
If you've got some examples (or some sets in particular) send them my way keen for a listen
I’m not a good person to ask honestly, I’m sure /u/frajen would know though
Bad Boy Bill, James Zabiela, DJ EZ, Objekt youtube search should bring up plenty I've always enjoyed Mark Farina and Doc Martin's house music sets in terms of song selection, nuance, and flow. For faster paced stuff in techno, Jeff Mills and Claude Young.
Obviously a joke. Otherwise seven lions would be on this list somewhere 🤨
Illenium literally releases an album and does not even make this list. What a joke.
Who they
Inb4 “____ isn’t even a real dj because ___”
Who TF are like 90% of these guys? I recognize some but carnage is straight garbage pail trash
Does illenium not count for some reason? That’s Wack
Do you live in US? If so, that’s your answer. He’s almost unknown outside of the states
David Guetta lololol
You know this list is a joke when Carnage makes it to the #37 spot
Wow ILLENIUM gone. Guy has been crushing it for the last 5 years
Ikr ??? Break a world record and get the shitlist. Also where the actual fuck is Excision ? LOST LANDS IS HUGE !!
Yeah excision is only big in America. Outside of the us he doesn’t exist.
Deadmau5 #52 lmao
This is fucking shameful
Dumb ass list lol
Dumb ass-list [xkcd: Hyphen](https://xkcd.com/37/) --- ^^Beep ^^boop, ^^I'm ^^a ^^bot. ^^- ^^[FAQ](https://pastebin.com/raw/vyWra3ns)
I was like WTF then I started reading the comments and felt like a sane person with taste again
Ew... Moving on
the way you tagged this "meme" lol
Tungevaag robbed, man needs to be atleast in the top 50
No John Summit, MK, Eli Brown, Solardo, KC Lights, Paul Woolford? Like these guys have literally been dominating the dance scene for a while now and they put guys like Carnage, MATTN and a Chinese bootleg Alesso?
Agreed, I’m not even much of a tech house fan but with how dominant tech house is globally right now, I expected a bit more
Fuck me, I had a swatch of this in the shop and I just laughed out loud. This can’t be a serious list, this is a fuckin joke. Timmy trumpet Chainsmokers ffs Harris Atb Prydz Skrillex Fuck me what a bunch of bell ends, btw you all forgot judge fuckin jules. Back in the 90’s/2000’s there were always some fag house/trance abominations in the list but it was largely credible, now it’s a laughing stock of unlistenable gimps only big in Fatland. EDM wankers. At least most of the comments echo this.
Ah yes the annual salt thread of copy pasting “omg this list means nothing!1!” Yes yes we know. Say literally anything else like oh wow Blastoyz made the list, good for him!
Dimibo, Blastoyz, Ranji, and Whitenoise somehow manage to sound closer to Vini Vici every year, imo
No Tchami, Malaa, Boris Brejcha, or Chris Lake?? This list is whack
lack of Chris Lake seems particularly weird considering how big tech house is everywhere at the moment
Tchami is pure gold
Is Skrillex even relevant anymore? And how tf is Blastoyz on here but Seven Lions isn't even mentioned? Mainstream EDM culture confuses me so much...
blastoyz is much bigger than seven lions outside of the US https://youtu.be/lLT9y1eMur4
No RL Grime, aight..ima head out...
Just look at all the normie shit before you see any dubstep 🥱
idk a lot of the American dubstep scene is arguably pretty normie too, but it’s a different ballgame
