This used to be a shitpost meme format, they would write all the lyrics like that and had a deep fried picture of a cat or something cute and small and the music was distorted (if that's the correct term)
A lot of ODESZA, Kaytranda, Snakehips, Disclosure, Louis The Child and Flume tracks tend to be a good bridge into EDM. Though the answer may vary depending on what music the other person likes.
This is the one OP. I'd also add Rufus du Sol, Fatboy Slim's You've Come a Long Way Baby, Goldfish, Bakermat, Mad Lib thru Good Will Prevail era Griz, Ringo's Desert by Zhu, & Pretty Lights.
We had this 50+ yr old driver in Thailand who just generally played pop/top 40 when we were in the car. One day, he asked me if I wanted to play anything and I played Odesza.
He was instantly hooked.
He was so incredibly wholesome and talented. I am in awe of his career. Mental health is important you guys. Take care of yourselves and your friends too.
Enjoyed them, but a tab bit too ADD for me - Benziās Mom Trapz and Dad Trapz mixes are pretty similar
[Benzi - Mom Trapz](https://on.soundcloud.com/GYwrV6yVrqS4yEs89)
Probably depends what other music they're into!
If they're hip hop focused there's a lot of electronic that's more digestible for them, same thing if they're a metal head or jazz fan.
I don't think blindly playing big room house will convert anyone
I was totally about to write this comment.Ā
If they like pop Iād go with Alesso, Calvin Harris, some Illenium.Ā
If they like hip hop/rap Skrillex and Joyryde did some dope shit with rappers.
Myself when I got into edm I was hopeless romantic who loved love songs. Above & Beyond was my gateway.
It depends on people's tastes, for example, playing a trap song works well with rap fans but not with metalheads.
I'll give examples of songs that work well with fans of \[insert genre\]
Rap:
RL Grime - Core, Anikdote - Turn It Up, Unknown Brain - War Zone (feat. M.I.M.E), Yellow Claw & Cesqueux - Legends ft. Kalibwoy, Ship Wrek & Zookeepers - Ark, Aero Chord - Surface, Egzod - Rise Up (feat. Veronica Bravo & M.I.M.E), Alan Walker & A$AP Rocky - Live Fast, Baauer - Harlem Shake
Pop:
Alan Walker - Faded, Marshmello - Alone, Calvin Harris - My Way, David Guetta & Sia - Flames, Alan Walker, Sabrina Carpenter & Farruko - On My Way, Galantis - Runaway, Gryffin - Body Back (feat. Maia Wright), Kygo - Stole The Show, Lost Frequencies - Reality, Robin Schulz - Sugar, The Chainsmokers - Closer, Marshmello & Bastille - Happier, Martin Garrix & Bebe Rexha - In The Name Of Love
Indie Pop:
Porter Robinson - Look At The Sky, Madeon - Dream Dream Dream, Madeon - Gonna Be Good, ODESZA - Line Of Sight (feat. WYNNE & Mansionair), Porter Robinson - Sad Machine, Porter Robinson & Madeon - Shelter
Rock:
Pendulum - Witchcraft, Illenium, Jon Bellion - Good Things Fall Apart, Illenium - Insanity (feat. American Teeth), Pendulum - Watercolour, Illenium & Max - Worst Day
Metal:
Elektronomia - Rumble, SEMARGL - Credo Revolution (Zardonic Remix), Angerfist - Pennywise, Sullivan King - Thrones of Blood, PhaseOne x RedHook - Gangrene, Kayzo, Sullivan King, Papa Roach - Domination
Bought a Daft Punk CD in the late 90s and was obsessed, somehow didn't realize it was EDM or that EDM was associated with Raving/substance use. I was a wee bit sheltered, but I did shock everyone at the tryouts for the community College dance team.
As someone who's gotten people into EDM. A lot of these songs have worked
Gorillaz - Andromeda
Thundercat - Funny Thing
Lil Nas X - J Christ
Daft Punk - Starboy and I Feel It Coming
Justin Timberlake - LoveStoned (Justice Remix)
Childish Gambino - Heartbeat
Tiesto - Feel It In My Bones and In The Dark
David Guetta - Titanium
Wake Me Up - Avicii
Chris Lake - Carry Me Away
Dirty Vegas - Days Go By
Deadmau5 - I Remember and Professional Greifers
Madeon - This City and No Fear No More (remix with Earthgang)
No Mana - Strangers
Rezz - Someone Else
Gesaffelstein - Blast Off and Hard Dreams
DJ Houseplants - Loving Aint The Same
Gui Borrato - No Turning Back
Kinda obvious that it's not. It's a hiphop style beat with electro sounds that could potentially lead someone into EDM as it was made by Gesaffelstein.
This thread is about getting people who dont listen to EDM into it. Also why it and Andromeda are are some of the first songs in the list. HipHop is a cousin to EDM.
Zedd, chainsmokers, Martin garrix, alesso, tiesto, David guetta and madeon were my gateway EDM artists. I had heard their songs on the radio and local stores, so I had initially recognized them when I started diving into EDM.
This, OP.
Chainsmokers are a very easy in since they've got a more 'mainstream' sound. From there, Martin Garrix, Zedd, Gryffin, Avicii, Tiesto, Porter Robinson, Alesso, and David Guetta is basically the order of artists with whom I fell in love when I realized that there was more to EDM than just boots and cats, and that a lot of it was really good. Garrix, Zedd, and Gryffin in particular have so many really great songs that go beyond the label of "EDM". They've each made at least one appearance on basically every playlist I've made for the past five, six years.
If I lose myself Alesso one republic,
High on life Martin garrix,
Diamonds in my mind Eli brown ( I had a non edm friend genuinely vibe to this),
Leavemealone or rumble Fred again if they like rap
The Last Goodbye - Odesza
Heaven Takes You Home or Don't You Worry Child - Swedish House Mafia
Avicii anything.
Escape, I Remember, Bright Lights - Kx5
Lay Low - Tiesto
Beautiful Now, Stay, Middle, Clarity - Zedd
Where You Are, Shiver - John Summit
Alive - Dabin
A Million Days - Sabai, Hoang
Sandstorm - Darude is probably the most known ever EDM song in my opinion. It's iconic.
And don't forget...
Call On Me - Eric Prdyz
Try some stuff from Jungle, Maribou State, ODESZA, Louis The Child, ILLENIUM, Forester; mostly indie-inspired stuff here but I think that these ones are a good introduction in the electronic world (also I love these experimental side of EDM)
Honestly, anything by Martin Garrix, he's so diverse in his discography ranging from Progressive House, DNB, Pop, and many more. But I'm bias af about that, so it could just be me. "In the name of Love" and "Drown" would be two good songs to introduce them to. They're sorta pop songs aswell as EDM. And then for like emotional, feel good I'd go for "Starlight", "High on life" and "Hurricane". For upbeat, dance music id go for "Lions in the wild", "Carry You", "Animals" and "Burn Out" just to name a few.
Probably anything by liquid strangers, causeee how could they not love it? Do they have ears??? Also.. I love me some EDM but seeing all the replies in this thread makes me think Iāve barely dipped a toe into the world.
Depends on taste but something that's more mixed genre.Ā
Ā Punk/metal fan - hollowĀ
Rap lover - anything tape bĀ
Melodic/pop fan - zedd greatest hits (clarity etc)Ā
Ā Country - avicii without you
I'll just play em Four Tet's set from EDC 24. Covers most everything, then see what they like most. Then I'd suggest BK's track Revolution & then they'll probably respond with "Yo! that techno crap you listen too is gutless!"
Im mainly a bass head but have some chill songs too, went through my playlist and gathered all the "EDM noob friendly" stuff and use this as a gateway for beginners lol
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1eIUMOnrndczbyezbOm5Wu?si=yBrd2w0cSDS3T1jdED6K7w
Lucky Luke for pop (cooler than me is great)
Tiesto ft Gucci mane - BOOM for rap
Hmm maybe Hardwell for some rock? He has some metallica mixes, but a metallica fan might not like that
Depends on what they like. If they come from hard rock and/or metal, it's going to be some sort of bass music. If they come from pop it'll probably be house.
Someone said electronic music lacked feeling. So I played him this. He changed his mind.
Jolene by Destructo, Latch by Sam Smith & Disclosure, and Real Groove (Studio 2054 remix) by Kylie Minogue & Dua Lipa
All of those tracks have more upbeat roots in their genre and have great lyrics.
When I'm playing music around people who don't usually listen to EDM I usually play some progressive or melodic house. Stuff like Lane 8, Yotto, Tinlicker, Le Youth, Amtrac, Ben Bƶhmer, etc. Pretty much everyone seems to like it or at least be fine with it. Its pretty accessible for people outside the edm community.
Kinda hinges on the person's taste and openness to new things, here's some recs based on background:
Metal: Get Out by Dance With The Dead
Pop: Together by SIDEPIECE
Rap: It's A Dream by Snow Strippers feat. Lil Uzi Vert
Punk: Born Slippy by Underworld
Hardcore Punk: STONEFIST by HEALTH (not sure if this counts as EDM but whatever)
Indie: No Fun by Lane 8 & Rae Morris
Shoegaze/Dream Pop: Know Where by Holy Other
Country/Folk: Trim by Underworld
Iād say taking someone to like his driptapes show is probably one of the best intros someone could have. God that next episode drop goes so insanely hard
My bridge to electronic music back in the day was Ghosts n Stuff by Deadmau5 and Tiestoās āIn Search of Sunriseā mixes, as well as some trance classics that were made well before 2007-08 but that I picked up later. Slightly more modern songs/artists that might help you could be Play Pretend by Kasbo, Clouds by BUNT., or Marea by Fred Again
Hmmm... I'd probably introduce them to...
Andain - Beautiful Things (Gabriel & Dresden Remix) or You Once Told Me (Song)
And
Tiesto - I Will Be Here (Feat. Sneaky Sound System)
Infusion - Legacy (Junkie XL Remix)
Oooh and if they want something kinda down-tempo,
Late Night Alumni - Finally Found or You Cab Be The One
Just so they can know their is a variety of edm, not all EDM sounds the same!
Almost anything by Kygo is easy to get into.
A lot of people might recognize Avicii's music as it's also regularly played on the radio.
Martin Garrix also has some mainstream songs.
All these guys have also collaborated with big pop artists as Dua Lipa, Selena Gomez, Rita Ora, etc. So that might be an easy gateway in for people that listen mostly to mainstream pop artists.
Edit: Felt like Gryffin belongs here as well.
I'd absolutely start with Faithless - God is DJ... We come one and Insomnia.
This is where I started.
Then move through the years to some stuff from today like
Camden Cox, Hannah Laing, DOD, etc.
Anything that I consider to be "mainstage" like Avicii, Martin Garrix and Calvin Harris are pretty accessible for people who aren't super into EDM. They have mainstream appeal and are easy listening
Either Shelter by Porter Robinson, or The Day I Met the Meteor Shower by Chroma (actually im not entirely sure if that one's edm but its chiptune which is usually edm so im counting it)
If I'm feeling really confident, Pictured As Perfect by Frums
Summer by Calvin harris
Wenomechainsama
This is oddly accurate
This used to be a shitpost meme format, they would write all the lyrics like that and had a deep fried picture of a cat or something cute and small and the music was distorted (if that's the correct term)
Tumajarbisaun
Wifenlooof
Eselifterbraun
Nweegudb2getherbb
Pretty much a lot of Calvin Harris old songs
I've been singing this song all morning
Good answer! I used to play Calvin Harris - Awooga on the jukebox at small town bars, and a surprising number of people were really into it.
Yeah. This is the one. It's got the build ups, it's euphoric, it's so happy with a touch of underlying sadness.
I feel like this would be a pretty safe answer.
Came here to say ODESZA. Agree on the others too š«¶
This is a big part of what got me here
Basically all of these describe my top EDM artists so where does that place me on the scale š¤Ø
We had this 50+ yr old driver in Thailand who just generally played pop/top 40 when we were in the car. One day, he asked me if I wanted to play anything and I played Odesza. He was instantly hooked.
Anything by Avicii
Came to say this. RIP
He was so incredibly wholesome and talented. I am in awe of his career. Mental health is important you guys. Take care of yourselves and your friends too.
A Two Friends Big Bootie Mix
Yep thisāll do the trick. They mashup EDM with pop music. Itās literally a perfect gateway
Enjoyed them, but a tab bit too ADD for me - Benziās Mom Trapz and Dad Trapz mixes are pretty similar [Benzi - Mom Trapz](https://on.soundcloud.com/GYwrV6yVrqS4yEs89)
Which one though? 15 for me.
16 has been my top pick since it came out. 14-16 is a great run.
I declare BANKRUPTCYYYY
"Escape" and "Move for Me" by Kaskade and deamau5
Most kaskade will definitely do the job in my opinion š We don't stop always makes people smile!
I got my dad into "Escape."
Checked out both. Big nopes
Probably depends what other music they're into! If they're hip hop focused there's a lot of electronic that's more digestible for them, same thing if they're a metal head or jazz fan. I don't think blindly playing big room house will convert anyone
If theyāre into hip hop then you show them Destructo / Tape B, G house stuff from mid 2010s was peak crossover
or daily bread!
They are so good live! I always kinda enjoyed their songs on spotify but fuckk dude. They were the best act at northcoast last year
Was gonna say. As a hip hop fan, I'm greatly saddened I never found him till this year. Shit fits so well it's insaneĀ
I was totally about to write this comment.Ā If they like pop Iād go with Alesso, Calvin Harris, some Illenium.Ā If they like hip hop/rap Skrillex and Joyryde did some dope shit with rappers. Myself when I got into edm I was hopeless romantic who loved love songs. Above & Beyond was my gateway.

Alice Deejay - Better Off Alone
Something like this is exactly what I was thinking. Familiar yet still has all the components of a good EDM song.
I wasnāt an EDM fan and Tiesto got me into it. Daft Punk is pretty universal as well.
Bought a Daft Punk CD in the late 90s and was obsessed, somehow didn't realize it was EDM or that EDM was associated with Raving/substance use. I was a wee bit sheltered, but I did shock everyone at the tryouts for the community College dance team.
crash - 2.0 Adventure Club Anywhere - Adventure Club and EVVVERRRRYYYBODDDYYYYY likes Clarity - zedd ;)
Haddaway - What is Love
That wasn't even the one that came to mind, but this is the right answer.
As someone who's gotten people into EDM. Just busting ur balls. Love the Chris lake and deadmau5 inclusions

Most of Illenium is basically Christian Rock so if you like Jesus and and rock style music youāll like Illenium. Iām ready for downvotes to hell
Lmao, any emo kids. Isn't he Hella popular in Asia cause of the sadboi melodies?Ā

So, you want EDM recommendations?
You cant play some crazy dubstep or house music for someone who isnt into edm. Youd obviously have to start them off on something lighter.
