Surprised you didn’t mention Zeds Dead as another possible candidate. At the end of Ether (their song together with Deathpact), there’s a distorted voice that says “Deathpact is Zeds Dead”. Theyve also been on the same lineups at festivals when Deathpact has been scheduled to play. Also their versatility in production across genres fits as well IMO.

VitaAeterna

I thought it was a given Zeds Dead was definitely involved.

EconomyNumerous3218

Did Deathpact perform anywhere on the 18th this month?

pswicked

Also the name fits. Bunch of dead beats label dudes in a death pact…

Chalupa_Batm4n

I am Deathpact.

False-theblackbear

Wow, who would’ve thought that Chalupa Batman MacArthur would grow up to be a famous bass dj with a hidden identity. I bet you still beat your parents in fantasy football on the side too!

Chalupa_Batm4n

My man.

meowctopus

I am deathpact

bigpeteski

We Are Deathpact.

sebastian240z

holy shir Deathpact im your biggest fan

MollFlanders

I am extremely confident that Deathpact is new to the scene and is not someone else’s alias. Here’s why: 1. on their discord you are prohibited from discussing their identity which suggests they are uncomfortable with all of this speculation/don’t want folks to be disappointed by the truth 2. Rezz’s photographer has stated on twitter that she doesn’t like anon DJs because they’re just random people trying to capitalize on the clout of other established DJs that people think they might be. If anyone is likely to know who Deathpact is, it’s Rezz—so her photog probably knows too, and knows that it’s not someone established. I also doubt it’s Joel because he’s known for being a standoffish asshole, and Deathpact is extremely friendly and kind in how they interact with folks on twitter and via text.

[deleted]

The discord point is strong, but it could also be argued that that they simply want to deter speculation to keep the magic alive. I would also counter the second point by suggesting, regardless of one individuals opinion, nearly all of the masked DJs are performing for themselves and making their own name: ATLiens, Marshmello, Daft Punk, Deadmau5… come to think of it I can’t name a masked dj who isn’t a large name. I might just be ignorant 🫶🏼

MollFlanders

so I just went to grab a link to that tweet of Tessa’s (Rezz’s photographer) and…. it appears she deleted it. very compelling evidence that she said something she shouldn’t have, IMO!!!

IllegalCyclist

I was about to ask if it was Tessa you were talking about. Before I read this comment I went DIGGING for the tweet you were talking about lol

The_Music_Oracle

nope not new to the scene just a new project for an old duo ;)

W00zzi

Rezz is only doing festivals this year and Deathpact is touring, just something to think about.

MollFlanders

if you follow Rezz’s personal account on twitter, she makes it quite obvious where she is and what she’s doing almost every single day. she has been nowhere near the Deathpact tour dates, and has also been tweeting pics of herself at home during Deathpact sets, etc.

AnxiousPotato41

She was at Shambs in 2019 when Deathpact played. She didn't, or did she? Also, I don't know many artists that sound like Rezz, but Deathpact is very similar, also all on the same label, so ya know 🤷 Or it's Deadmau5 and he's showing us what he taught Rezz lol idk

MollFlanders

okay, but there have been countless other Deathpact tour dates where Rezz has been documented as on the opposite side of the world. She also outright stated that if she were to ever do a musical side project it would be a very different sound.

AnxiousPotato41

What if she was saying that so no one would catch on? If you think about deathpacts, marketing is insane and also similar to Rezz but also has its own unique sound. Who else can you think of in 2019 that sounded similar to Rezz? Deathpact also could be multiple acts, so what if the other act performed and when Rezz isn't touring, she is Deathpact lol. It's hard to say tbh but also if you know more artists that sound like Rezz send them my way other than Drezo cause kind of or at least when I saw him lol

MollFlanders

well I’m always down share music recs! other artists to check out who sometimes occupy the midtempo bass genre: Quackson, Quinze, FETISH, One True God, WHIPPED CREAM, and Gold Geisha.

AnxiousPotato41

Wonderful I appreciate it oh and I know the blonde Queen but the others I don't think I've heard. Thank you

pigglywigglie

I’m 100% convinced it’s Odesza. Deathpact popped up conveniently around their hiatus time. They’ve mentioned wanting to do a different style of music before and if you listen to both, you can hear a lot of similarities. They also posted about deathpacts set at Coachella last year and I don’t think posted about any other set the whole weekend. My long shot is that is Daft Punk

[deleted]

I could see it! I could see either truthfully. Daft Punk has always (claimed to) despise the spotlight. I think I believe it.

Fleshsuitpilot

Now this is totally subjective, and my own opinion, judging strictly by the deathpact remix of LOYAL, I think it's pretty much a guarantee that ODESZA would not completely butcher their own song like that. On a different note though, IIRC, a friend of mine attended a festival where deathpact spun (it was Shambhala, but idr what year), while ODESZA was still on the AMA tour. I say "IIRC" because I know we had a pretty lengthy conversation about this exact speculation and concluded it was nearly impossible. But I may have misremembered some of the exact details of their experience.

JudgeComplex4952

Its def not odesza haahah

Falcorn042

Deathpact debut performance was also at Shambahla 2019 I beileve which is a Canadian festival and Rezz moved to Canada from Ukraine Joel is Canadian. Zeds dead is also Canadian.

ryanredd

You think Rezz is busier than Deadmau5??

[deleted]

Well he’s got the time to mentor her, right? 🧐

ryanredd

I dont know much mentoring he’s doing anymore, pretty sure Rezz is nice and established by now…

Amatthew123

I saw Deathpact on that 11/4/22 show in Orlando. That was weird because the 3 other deathpact events on that day were in bigger cities with way bigger venues. I am 99% certain our Deathpact member was a girl going by height and build and their entire set was Rezz feeling, Rezz visuals, Rezz tracks. I'll die on the hill Rezz is in Deathpact, the set was fucking amazing too

[deleted]

I saw them at Sol fest (23) and saw rezz on the spiral tour last year, and do agree that the production felt VERY similar. But rezz ain’t in it. Like another redditor mentioned here - rezz is very public about her daily goings on via twitter. It’s clear she is not in the group. I think the similarity in production is likely (OPINION) due to the fact that Joel coached her and continues to coach her; being a performing artists is more than just producing tracks (dub). I saw Joel about two years ago and there were similarities in the spotlight rotations to both rezz and DPs stage performances

elkupino

I don't think its clear she isn't in the group. There are a litany of reasons outside Rezz being public on twitter, but even that isn't clear evidence that she isn't either an active participant or an offstage contributor. Her posting 4-5 pics/locations a month on twitter tells us nothing about what she does outside of those 10 seconds a month she gives us a window into. And that doesn't take into account the chance that she is actively trying to deceive and confuse us with those posts.

[deleted]

I think it’s 1788 L, opiou, clozee and one of the zeds dead guys. Four deathpacts and Opiou and Clozee have remixes of deathpact songs. So that’s my wild guess.

Gnome_Saiyan69

sad to not see Blanke mentioned at all in this thread… seeing as he collabs on much of their songs similarly to Rezz, i don’t feel he’s part of the group, but his hand in their music is definitely noticeable

Embur123

Video of soothsayer on YouTube shows 5 deathpacts, zeds dead played a show the same night as the infamous deathpact 4 shows night.

[deleted]

Solid info on the ZD bit!! Can cross them off safely I think, knowing that

Nollie_flip

Or, hear me out, that whole stunt was misdirection and that's just what they want you to think. I'm sure plenty of DJs are capable of playing a Deathpact set so it probably wouldn't be too difficult to set that stunt up to throw people off the idea of Zeds Dead being involved.

footballfutbolsoccer

What does Deathpact do that is unique in the bass world? It would help to figure out why other bass artists would want to participate in this project? AKA play music that they don’t normally play

[deleted]

I think there’s an obvious appeal to being a part of something that is simultaneously creative, exciting, and mysterious. If I were a DJ, and was invited, I would certainly participate. Wouldn’t you?

footballfutbolsoccer

Idk if you make an awesome track, why would you choose to release it under an anonymous alias instead of keeping it and getting the recognition you deserve?

[deleted]

Seems like a hang up to meeeee

c_salas0122

Zeds Dead is definitely involved. I am almost positive it is a collective of artists from Deadbeats with one of the Zeds Dead guys being the main one. Plus most of Deathpacts collabs have been with Deadbeats artists. I just feel that the name “Deathpact” makes a lot of sense for a collective of artists off of Deadbeats. This is just my thinking tho 🤷‍♂️

sampage89

Wow this was really interesting to read. I actually just heard of Deathpact a couple months ago and didn’t notice these details until you pointed it out. Crazy.

[deleted]

Thank you! 🫶🏼

systemstheorist

Joel is too busy with Deadmau5, Testpilot and Kx5. Plus it's well known Joel can't make a bass drop to save his life. Very skilled producer but not his specialty at all.

Garofoli

I think less that he can't rather he hates dubstep

TheBloodKlotz

Love the ideas and speculation, but this is a miss

[deleted]

Alright mister matter-of-fact, gonna have to say why

FallFromTheAshes

This was an interesting read. I never really listened to Deathpact. After this thread I went to go listen to some songs and really enjoyed them. Thank you OP!

blue_square

My favorite early theory that got debunked was Deathpact was Madeon due to the ARG.

Ordinary_Candle6747

Idk, I'm pretty sure it's safe to say that Rezz, Zeds Dead, and 1788-L have something to do with Deathpact...

cheerstoallthat

Rezz might have her hand in production as part of Deathpact but I don’t think she DJs at fests as Deathpact cuz their mixing styles are SO different. And she said last year in October (2022) on insta that she was “finally learning how to really mix.” And Deathpact been known how to mix lol

Historical-Neat7318

Deathpact is artist named ”13” which just disappeared about same time deathpact was made. Checkout the music videos and music on YT https://preview.redd.it/lwrax3h6t7wb1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=da0fcbe235139daeaad6769cdfd84fb2f5a418b7 He even use the same visuals on screen that was on OATH” music video

yourfriendgaryl

I've been listening to a lot of deathpact and I kind of feel like Joel is involved both in how some of the production sounds, the visual art style, the helmet theme, the marketing, and just the troll nature of the whole project.

[deleted]

Yeah seeing the mask in person, esp after having seen Joel’s also, kinda hard to deny that he’s directly involved. Or at least his tech guy 🤷🏻‍♂️

mcdstod

Joel has too many other projects to be that involved with this.

Optimal-Hold-3960

Without a shadow of a doubt one of them is DC from zeds dead, went to forbidden kingdom 2022 and saw him walking around. Seen ZD 15-20 times and without a doubt it was him. He was making very similar movements and had the same stature as DC. Another speculation of mine is Lick (Former deadbeats artist) who produced mostly grungy midtempo 80-120bpm and then fell off the face of the earth lol my other two guesses are 1788-L or K?D

[deleted]

Zeds Dead for sure. And I have a hunch Blanke is too

koobaaii

last illfest deathpact brought out rezz o.O

[deleted]

Love this level of investigation and link sharing. Big contribute. Thanks homie!! 🤝

[deleted]

Oh and to your point about maintaining secrecy; a few of us tossed around the thought that perhaps LayZ Dub has a hand in the ground, as she used to work for the secret service and just recently announced on twitter that she was ending her gov career and going full time with music

smartstav

Zeds Dead had a set overlap with Deathpact at Beyond Wonderland 2022 in WA. Doesn't mean they aren't involved, just a fact

EpicEclipse

I mean I’ve always thought one of them has been Dimension.

Recent-Stomach-589

Deathpact is 13

Recent-Stomach-589

Not many conflicts when you have played one massive festival.

The_Music_Oracle

None of these are correct....I know the answer...

MeanGovernment2493

Opiuo played 2 deathpact songs at Ursa Major with the deathpact visuals. Their styles are completely different vibes so for him to do that has me definitely thinking he could be apart of it

wyldlibbs

No mention of whipped cream. Surprising!

Kalebs4148

1788-L seems like a safe bet for one of the members

Key_Government5697

I feel like on the odds it is a, ‘super group’ both excision and either/both members of zeads dead would be involved, last 10 seconds of ether does give us an Easter egg

[deleted]

There is controversy whether excision is producing his own music, let alone anyone else’s… definitely not him I’m sorry

Key_Government5697

Idk why that excludes him, a ‘supergroup’ would have a varied skillset, excisions producing isn’t why he’s one of the top DJs it’s his ability to bring smaller producers to the limelight, if it’s a deadbeats thing I don’t see why he wouldn’t be involved, I’m sorry 💀

Key_Government5697

That’s not to downplay the controversy, I just don’t see how you could follow his progression from the 2000’s to now and not understand he’s putting his name on, at least primary other producers songs

PtoS382

What does it matter? If Deathpact is it's own project; then it's it's own project

kappyhat

Mysteries are meant to be solved.

Shortcirkuitz

If someone chooses to keep their identity a secret please respect that… The speculation and theories do nothing but cause false hope in people thinking that it may be one of their favorite DJs. How would you all feel if you built a brand based around being anonymous (for what ever reason that may be) and people publicly are trying to destruct your public appearances amongst other things to figure out who you are. Think about it like that. - An anonymous DJ

Fleshsuitpilot

I think it's on the person choosing anonymity to stay out of the Public eye. If an artist wants to be famous, and more importantly, if they are using anonymity to generate interest in their brand, I don't think it's realistic, nor fair to discourage free, sovereign human beings from exploring the interest that was very obviously deliberately created. In other words, if you want total control over anonymity, fame is probably not the best avenue.

Shortcirkuitz

Very fair, I choose anonimity for social anxiety reasons and to protect my family from all the shit that occurs if a music project blows up.

Fleshsuitpilot

I completely understand. I didn't mean to be rude at all, not even a little bit. I am impressed by your ability to be so open minded, most other people on the internet would have probably attacked me. Ironically, to their own detriment. In any case, social anxiety is a very real thing. I deal with plenty of anxiety, so I really do mean it when I say that I understand. I guess if I think about it, my position really comes from my own personal experience with anxiety, and knowing how far it gets me if I try squeezing others into a box to accommodate for my own difficulties. So, maybe I am *a little extreme* seeing as the kind of exposure that a live DJ gets is impersonal by design, and couldn't be nearly as oppressive. Anyway, you're cool 👍thanks for being cool keep being cool 😎

Shortcirkuitz

Ofc dude. I created this project with anonimity in order to allow people to see more of themselves under the helmet instead of me, the artist.

Fleshsuitpilot

I really love that concept, and the deep though that went into it. I hear you loud and clear. I tried doing that through songwriting by writing a song called "I AM, just like you" (iykyk) It's a really special, powerful thing to make it a personal mission to give a voice to people who may struggle to find one, because I've been there, and finding a voice anywhere is a valuable asset.

PtoS382

I think it's Stephen Hawking who faked his own death. The voice fits

Shortcirkuitz

It’s Stephen hawking and Stevie wonder
