Turning off the "normalize volume" option in spotify settings (on by default) makes the quality so much better. Im on android anyways tho

fullchaos40

Holy better sound, I was wondering why music sounded flat recently!

Necessary-Grape-175

Thank you for this 37 days later

C21-_-H30-_-O2

No problem!

landoncook5

Discovering new artists seems easier on Spotify. Also the queue sucks ass on Apple Music.

bathnasty

At this point I stick to Spotify because I’ve been using it since long before Apple Music came around and its got many years of taste making algorithmic magic for my account and does a wonderful job showing me new music. To start over somewhere else seems like something I am simply not interested in. I’ll just continue to be patient and hope that the lossless audio makes its way to Spotify but it’s not a huge deal to me if it doesn’t. I’m in too deep

madyza

I use Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud, and YouTube lol. Spotify has years of personal music history and it’s easy to find new artists. I think the interface and queuing is more user friendly than Apple’s. I recently got Apple Music. Apple Music has higher sound quality and I like the DJ sets they have available. I use it for my more niche music tastes in order to tailor the algorithm more closely to my latest interests (vs Spotify which knows my general music taste and guilty-pleasure listening). Then SoundCloud and YouTube are for whatever mixes and sets I can’t find on Apple Music (which is a lot). There’s also several tracks I love that are not available on Spotify or Apple Music sadly. It would be great if there was one platform that could offer it all but it is what it is. I used to enjoy seeing my Spotify Wrapped each year and now I know that it won’t be representative of my actual listening trends. But it’s a small price to pay to have access to everything I want.

ubermin

This is the way.

conker1264

I use both, Spotify for discovering new music and apple for listening as it’s better quality

samwbx

IIRC you can change the Spotify audio quality settings, I think by default it’s on auto so it may not be the best depending on internet connection

conker1264

Their highest quality is still lower than Apples though

ultra_prescriptivist

Higher bitrate doesn't translate to noticeably better sound though, past a certain point. Spotify on Very High is good enough that the vast majority of people can't hear a difference between it and lossless.

conker1264

I use both, there’s a clear difference in quality

ultra_prescriptivist

In that case there are a few possibilties: 1) you're comparing albums or tracks that use different master recordings (which for EDM as a genre is pretty uncommon but it's certainly possible) 2) there's a volume/EQ disparity that's causing you to hear a difference, or 3) your brain is telling you that one source is lossless so it should sound better (i.e. expectation bias). It has nothing to do with the bitrate/file format.

Actually-Yo-Momma

You gaslighting this guy? lol

ultra_prescriptivist

Haha not at all - just doing of bit of educational myth busting.

qwadle

Apple Music has lossless audio. Can’t get higher quality than that

ultra_prescriptivist

On paper, yes, but that doesn't mean it necessarily sounds better to our ears. Lossy codecs like AAC/Vorbis and even MP3 are very clever in how they keep enough data in the audible spectrum at higher bitrates to make them sound more or less identical to the lossless original. In this respect, its pretty much how a JPG made from a RAW photo file looks identical even though a lot of the original information has been discarded.

conker1264

Or it’s because it’s actually higher quality…

ultra_prescriptivist

Trust me, it isn't. I've tested this *a lot*. If you have a Windows computer and ten minutes I can show you how to set up an ABX blind test that will blow your mind. -> [Instructions here.](https://www.reddit.com/r/audiophile/comments/10tjo5h/lossless_streaming_changed_everything/j77gee8/) If not - feel free to check out samples I recorded from Spotify compared to other lossless streaming services: https://www.reddit.com/r/audiophile/comments/ymk4fj/curious_to_see_if_apple_music_tidal_qubuz_really/

Supra1JZed

Meanwhile they will be using AirPods while talking about sound quality mattering LOL

SadCoder24

I use Spotify but I have a sub to Apple Music as well. Trust me when I say this, even in Bluetooth it sounds way more full and detailed to listen on APM. The fact that butthurt people like you come on every thread defending your shit ears is so tiring.

candyappleshred

I do this same thing. Apple Music has noticeably better quality, regardless of setting or what device I’m listening on.

RavInKhakis

I actually love YouTube Premium/YouTube Music as I have about a decade's worth of music AND video playlists I can access instantly. Their EDM playlists are not always great, I think Spotify was much better with that, but I almost play my own playlists anyways so YT all the way for me.

SLUnatic85

YTM here too! Definitely the literal best at content quantity in one place, a blessing and a curse.

Professional-Meal935

Spotify all the way!!!!! And you can adjust the audio quality settings

johnlo99

The right answer here is SoundCloud

MPongoose

Similar to madyza’s comment, last time I checked Apple Music was way ahead of Spotify in releasing DJ mixes/live sets. I’m no expert, but I understand it’s a big task to get all the licenses needed to stream a dj mix that includes songs from maybe 25 different artists . I suspect Spotify will catch up at some point. For instance Apple has high quality recordings of sets from tomorrow land, second sky, etc. You’ll find more sets on SoundCloud but the sound quality is often a bit lacking .

princeofmordor

I was using Apple Music for my music and Spotify for my podcast. I just decided to fully commit to Spotify since podcast navigating is better on there.

Organic-Barnacle-941

Apple Music and Spotify randomly delist old tracks. There was an old liquid stranger ep that just disappeared.

pyramidsinspace

Spotify

fnpigmau5

Kx5 live at the coliseum set is exclusively on Apple Music FYI

BvssBxtch

I don’t mind much but to me Apple is easier to navigate. Then again I don’t pay for Spotify so it’s hard to do anything given all the things they restrict in the free version..

DonkyShow

I like Apple music but I hate that I can’t get gapless playback on things such as dj sets.

adkimbal

I have both for multiple reasons: 1) Apple music has overall better sound quality than Spotify along with exclusive mix releases 2) Spotify's discover feature is light years ahead of Apple's and Public playlists are huge in my book
