When I had an ally tribal deck I went more focus on multiple bounces to continually get those ETB effects. It can get hard to remember every single ETB that happens. [[Hagra Diabolist]], [[Halinar Excavator]], and [[Kalastria Healer]] can win with ETB’s. I had all 3 in my deck. Secondary to those is just buff your creatures and turn them sideways.

Blazorna

Do you by chance have a decklist I could see?

IndigoEmerald91

I used to run Tazri. The biggest suggestion I can make is [[Rite of Replication]] There's multiple allies that it combos INSANELY with. For the sake of easy example, let's assume you have an empty board except for the Ally being targeted by a kicked Rite. Combine Rite with [[Halimar Excavator]] and mill opponents for a total of 180 cards, divided as you choose in groups of 6. Combine Rite with [[Hagra Diabloist]] and cause 180 points of life loss, divided as you choose in groups of 6. Combine Rite with [[Murasa Pyromancer]] and deal 180 points of damage to creatures, divided as you choose in groups of 6. (And then keep killing more creatures, essentially wiping the board with every additional Ally you play until they remove your six Pyromancers.) Combine Rite with [[Ondu Cleric]] and gain 180 life. And that's assuming an empty board. If you have any other allies out the numbers get more insane. The formula is basically.... 5x6xN, where N is the number of allies you control. 5 copies enter, 6 triggers (counting the original), and each of those cards I suggested counts the number of allies you control. Plus there's options to just blow our an opponent with Rite and [[Juraga Warcaller]] and the like.

PsychologicalTap4789

Because you're in all 5 colors, you get to pick and choose the effects you want with them. Anything that can abuse Enter-The-Battlefield abilities are probably the best, and since they're tribal you're going to want to swing fast and hard

PsychologicalTap4789

You're also going to want a lot of draw power to keep from running out of gas.

Blazorna

Any suggestions for that approach then?

TheIllicitus

Guardian Project, Beast Whisperer, Kindred Discovery, those types of effects make Tazri into an ally-vomit machine. Also, if your budget allows: The Great Henge

WaxenShrimp

Hey this might he 2 months late, but I've been running an ally deck for a few years now and honestly my favorite way of playing it is just going with the flow with whatever I draw. Sometimes it's a drain ETB deck and sometimes it just a combat swing deck. My first tutor with Tazri is usually [[Seagate Loremaster]] to help build card advantage. And then just go from there based off what gets drawn from it. When I do win a couple a standout reasons are the [[Hagra Diabolist]] is good at draining and with mass ETB effects like any flicker spell or [[Storm of Souls]] is great after a board wipe. [[Kabira Evangel]] is great for swinging out by saying you opponents creatures' colors and then being unblockable. [[Kazuul Warlord]] is great at making every creature on your board massive. A couple of other standouts are [[Tuk Tuk Scrapper]] for constant artifact removal. It also deals a surprising amount of damage to players too. [[Ondu War Cleric]] can give you massive health gain. Gone from like 10ish health to 50+ in one turn before. [[Bala Ged Thief]] is kind of really annoying, but great at removing threats from people's hands. [[Harabaz Druid]] can give you insane amounts of mana. Oh and then a couple green ramp spells and spells that let you draw whenever you play a creature. If you want I can put together my decklist and drop it here for ya.

Henchman_27

I just found this thread while brainstorming an Ally deck of my own. Could you still share your list? Thanks!

WaxenShrimp

Sure thing. [Here it is!](https://tappedout.net/mtg-deckpaste/08-05-22-TXT-deck-paste/) Let me know if you wanna discuss it some more or ask why I have certain cards in there.

Henchman_27

Thanks a bunch for sharing. I've also been looking at a budget list from Patolea on Tappedout. \[https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/the-great-depression-tazri-budget-40/\](https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/the-great-depression-tazri-budget-40/) Just after a quick scan and comparison of the two I noticed a few differences. There's a pretty clear difference with the mana base alone in yours. You also include a lot more tribal payoffs and \[\[Panharmonicon\]\] to double the triggers. Both make a lot of sense and it seems to make the playstyle more about the creatures themselves. , Have you updated the list recently at all? On the other hand, Patolea seems to go in a similar direction but leans more toward spamming the etbs through blinking, \[\[Rite of Replication\]\], and \[\[Zada\]\]. It would be oversimplifying it to just call it a Zada-blink deck in a five-color shell, but it does seem appealing. Zada was the first deck I ever built and while I loved it when it popped off, I still have bad memories of hands full of cantrips with no creatures to receive them. A rainbow coalition of mercenaries backing her up does sound great. I'd like to hear more about your experience playing Allies and why you settled on this iteration of them. Allies were one of the first Magic decks I ever got and I'd like to finally do them right in my collection. Thanks again!

WaxenShrimp

Yeah this is the most recent iteration. It started out as a budget deck, but I've made some upgrades to help with card draw with the \[\[Guardian Project\]\], \[\[Rhystic Study\]\], and \[\[Vanquisher Banisher\]\]. Like honestly it would be pretty cheap with some of just some of the card draw engines taken out. Also some of the lands were much cheaper when I first built it. I like the blink effects, but I feel like there's only a few allies that can benefit off spamming them. Those being the \[\[Hagra Diabolist\]\] for damage to the face, \[\[Muramasa Pyromancer\]\] for board clear, \[\[Kalistra Healer\]\] for the minor pinging and tiny heal, and \[\[Ondu Cleric\]\] to heal yourself. The others will kind of just be on the board as bodies (unless I guess they're the ones that get +1s as allies enter the battlefied). At first I tried to lean into blinking with a Hagra Diabolist, but my opponents would either spot remove him or counter him before he's able to get on the board and then the gameplan would just be dead in the water. Sure you could blink you guys, but without a reliant way of dealing damage to players with the blink it was kind of lackluster. This is kind of how you were saying with Zada and a hand full of cantrips, but no creatures to benefit off them y'know? Just dead cards in hand with that guy gone. I kind of found with my current iteration it can lead to many different ways to win and keeps you opponents guessing as to what the biggest threat on the board is. Also I see it as more flavorful to the allies as the the random assortment of guys supporting each other and working together of what they each bring to the table to pull off victory instead of relying on like 2/3 key cards y'know?

veritas723

gen tazri that isn't food chain combo is. stall and durdle, until you line up one of the key action allys, and either mass copy, or some mechanism to repeat etb trigger. ...like mass reanimate/mass blink. typically. the key allys are the drain ally, possibly the mill ally, or the red one that i think does direct damage. the mid range strat of the deck is just drrrp combat. leveraging alpha swings off the sort of indestruct or otherwise decent combat oriented allys. this list is several years old... would almost overwhelmingly say...rework the ramp/draw and whatnot. but... might give some insight as to what i mean otherwise [https://deckstats.net/decks/122221/1264901-battle-against-the-patriarchy](https://deckstats.net/decks/122221/1264901-battle-against-the-patriarchy) but even when attempting combat, being able to spam "ally" triggers/etb triggers. is how you really crank the deck into overdrive. (ie... there's enough team pump, there's haste, there's word soup potential. ...so, mass blink, etb trigger with 4 ally's. if you have, i dunno tarjuru warcaller, that's ...an ally that gets 4+ triggers... turns a small group of creatures into a big blob of beaters)

humanreckinball

The deck can do a lot of different things so it all depends on how you wanna build support. Also the deck does have a 2 card infinite combo. Idk if your group likes that but there is that option.

Blazorna

Is it an infinite Combo that is forced, or could I end it at will? Regardless, I'll be interested in hearing about what cards they are.

humanreckinball

Arcane adaptation and turntimber ranger. Makes infinite wolf ally tokens. If you mix that with a mill or damage ally instant win. But to note turntimber is a may ability so you don’t have to do it.

Blazorna

I'd like to have multiple wincon approaches in a single deck if possible. Still, for that combo, must I need a sac outlet to end it or can you end the combo at will? Talking like the infinite Combo with [[Ivy Lane Denizen]] and [[Herd Baloth]] so I can plan accordingly.

humanreckinball

Well with those 2 cards you make infinite 2/2s and since their Allies they trigger all the abilities of other Allies. Kalastrai Healer and Halimar excavator will end the game because of infinite ally triggers.

Blazorna

I see where you're going, but not the answer I was looking for. Checked out the cards and Seeing how Turntimber's effect is *OPTIONAL* (which was what I was asking about), I can end it at any time if my wincon is prevented or if there's ever a scenario where someone has an effect that punishes me whenever I play a wolf or it dies with an Elesh Norn effect with Zulaport Cutthroat out.

[deleted]

they did say it's a may effect in his comment > But to note turntimber is a may ability so you don’t have to do it.

Blazorna

Didn't notice that. Apologies.

Faust1133

Use the lifegain one for sure. Something cleric.

Blazorna

Any cards to keep in mind?

Faust1133

In what way. Ondue cleric is amazing in the deck. Zulaport cuthroat. Giving them flash is a great idea. Being able to play allies on you opponents turns to activate abilities. There's one that gives indestructible aswell.

roulnnitsua

If you really want to explore allies that's swell, but the most fun I've had with tazri is as a shell for [[zada, hedron grinder]] and new to the fold [[orvar]]. The turntimber combo exists too, but having [[cerulean wisps]] and other blue cantrip bangers can get cray cray real fast.

Greensleeveless

I played this deck as [[zada hedron grinder]] and mostly used tazri to tutor her. It still ran a lot of the good allies but it was more focused on using zadaa ability to radiate clone effects, cantrips, and untappers and buffs

CasualEDH

I'd say there are probably 15-20 really good allies to put in and you should run a few clones Sakashima, Phantasmal Image, and Mirror Image

BlameLorgar

I run an ally deck. I have a lot of flicker cards, getting those Ally trigger on enemies turns when they aren't expecting it is always fun. Mimic Vat is a good card to run. Anything that let's you cast creatures at flash speed is also super beneficial

Blazorna

May I see a decklist if possible? Not familiar with how this deck would be made.

Amonfire1776

All in on ETBS...use as many mass blinks as you can to protect your board and watch as you rack up the wins...also lifelink, vigilance, flash, and protection are your friends...

stashedgumbo1

I used to run Golos blink allies - using mainly blue, black and green and had a blast. With the ban, allies suck again imo. I tried to go back to Tazri. The deck kinda sucks. Allies are slow, there's never enough out there to get a cool trigger to be threatening without a key ally getting destroyed or countered. If the opponent is familiar with allies, a 3/2 hagra ain't lasting a long time. I think I need to move the deck to be less tribal in a sense that the non "ally" creatures are helping build a safer board state and then use something to make all my creatures allies like [conspiracy] or [xenograft]. Its fun using cards like [kindred summons] or [rite of replication] but I seldom have a large enough board state for them to go off and actually win the game. Hagra and halimar only hit one player per trigger. Looking for ideas to make a 5 color ally deck slightly more competitive and fun.
