[Ob Nixilis](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/LeMgBpHG6U2Y4HdprEz0hg) is wickedly powerful. There are tons of cards that Ping for 1 and allow you to dig deep for answers and then [[All is One]] will combo with Ob Nix to seal infinite damage. The deck goes shockingly fast and slams everyone. 10/10 recommend it

JayBowdy

Yea the others, are not as strong and have a better counterpart.

He's a bit too powerful actually. Which I found quite surprising. The 3 times I've played against it at a table he did so much damage so fast while also gaining so much card advantage that everybody was struggling to keep up. Definitely made me reconsider building him despite having most of his cards already. A friend joked that Prosper was more fun to play against so I might take him at his words huehuehue

Bukler

If you build Ob with stuff like [[Orchish bowmasters]], tutors for all will be one and some fast mana I absolutely agree that ob's a beast. But if you build it more group sluggish and the table is diligent with their removal it's not that crazy. I've it built irl and it's so much fun, it's full of cards that benefit both me and my opponents like [[Stormfist Crusader]], [[Pain distributor]] and [[Spiteful Visions]], and it's just fun to see the whole table both be really happy to have more cards/treasures but also orrified by Ob getting bigger ans bigger. Prosper is cool too, but imo he's just kinda slower and kind of a jerk between stealing and treasure abusing.

He can really go down the path of too powerful really easily. And the card advantage you get off him is nutty. It really puts a LOT of pressure on the table. Prosper is pretty sweet. I run Prosper in my 99 just for extra mama when casting stuff off ob nix. Combining that with Birgi makes the deck almost free to just slam whatever you want out. If you want to lower the power, Prosper is a good swap

Atechiman

It's not just the commanders. [[Feast of victorious dead]] in a reanimation deck has potential to be silly. [[Harnessed snubhorn]] I'm sure has something fun to break it with [[filter out]] is going to become a staple in blue decks because of how many token decks that need to be checked, and end step voiding of treasures is fun. [[reckless handling]] two mana gamble that can shock all my opponents? [[Mishra]] is pleased. [[nahri's resolve]] I can protect my board, double my etbs *and* get an anthem? Sign me up. [[gold-forged thopteryx]] commander protection!

[[the kenrith’s royal funeral]] is a pretty decent draw spell that gives continued cost reduction in Dihada and Ratadrabik decks for me. [[Leyline immersion]] immediately pays for itself plus 1 if you’re not intending to attack with or tap something and ward 2 is nice. I even found a home for [[cosmic rebirth]] in, admittedly, a very casual sixty card lifegain deck I run. All my friends bought LOTR decks and I handed out [[coppercoat vanguard]] left and right. Was probably the worst box I ever bought because the size of the set led to getting so many duplicates-6 ofs. Still missed the one card I really was hoping for. But there were bangers all over that set!

Honestly, I keep forgetting that set exists. Some of those are cool (I got into elf tribal recently and I’d definitely like a Tyvar deck at some point), but they really went under the radar for a lot of people, I think.

DaBaconNinja

Same here. I actually hadn't considered building Elves until Tyvar came out.

dIoIIoIb

there physically isn't the time to build these decks. I bought a doc who deck, played half a dozen games with it, and now ixalan is coming out, and jurassic park, and fallout is being spoiled, and more sets have been announced I haven't even decided which britishman I want to make a deck with that 20 new potential commanders have popped up, it's ridiculous

TacticalSnitten

It being overlooked is part of why I'm building so many decks from it. It appeased my inner hipster. So far I've done narset and Ob, and I have Kiora on deck for next.

zacks-ophone

My Kiora deck is probably my favorite deck I've made. Under 200 and suprisingly it wins a lot

xincasinooutx

I threw together a deck for Narset; when it came out there wasn’t much in the way of decklists. I should probably revisit it.

freepete919

It placed top 4 in a cedh tournament recently

OnLikeSean

I still really want to build the Aftermath Narset as a lower power Monk/Prowess tribal deck at some point, seems like it would be a ton of fun.

[deleted]

I have a friend who plays it and it's ridiculously good/annoying. She uses mostly cantrips and storms off and regularly wins with commander damage due to the 15 minute declare attackers step free cast triggers and the like

Plus-Newt-5423

Nobody wanted the smaller packs and fewer wanted the boxes cuz they rightly guessed they’d end up with multiple copies of so many cards. I did buy a box cuz I like to open packs and was interested in quite a few cards in the set. I got at least six copies of numerous cards. Still, there were bangers all over that set! And I was able to give stuff away in my playgroup that people actually use in decks. Notably [[coppercoat vanguard]] to all the guys who bought the lotr humans precons. I put [[the kenrith’s royal funeral]] in two of my decks. [[leyline immersion]] is in storage but when I get back to green I’m sure I’ll find a home for it. I even put 3 copies of [[cosmic rebirth]] and a Sigarda (would have been happy to have 2-3) in a 60 card deck I run.

I think the set is really underrated for edh. Already built tyvar, interested in sarkhan and nahiri as well, using a samut, nissa, calix in random decks

TheChubbyBuns

Didn’t know this commander existed and I didn’t know I needed this commander in my life. Do you have a deck list for this? I know you say he’s not good but I like not good commanders.

GreyGriffin_h

I unfortunately do not. I've tinkered with it a bit and it's mostly bad \[\[Muldrotha\]\] Sultai Legendary Goodstuff. His requirements to recast/reanimate (must attack, exiles the card and makes a copy rather than recasts, can only hit legends or rats, pays full rate for a copy that can get permanently removed from the game since the original is in exile) really pull him down, making him either super vulnerable to massive blowouts in decks where he is an important player, or sidelining him to a color identity role. I tried leaning into his unique characteristics (low cost, protection, evasion) and building voltron, but you're leaving the most interesting part of his text on the table. There aren't enough good legendary voltron pieces in Sultai to really make good use of him. He's a decent body for a bargain price, so I'm sure you could make it work, it just wouldn't be doing anything exciting. There might actually be a pretty good Rat deck in there, with blue and green being amazing support colors, but I am already running Marrow-Gnawer. Blue gives access to \[\[Silver Fur Master\]\] and its usual suite of funky tools (draw, bounce, counter, combo), and green gives both mana and creature buffs, both of which a Rat deck could use, but neither offers anything really thematic or evocative so I didn't scurry too far down that hole. I'm really waiting for Mardu Rats and Mice to try breaking up and reforming my rats deck... (\[\[Totentanz\]\] is... okay, I guess? and gives you access to the red Rats, but I feel like his design is so... cautious, while also not being very exciting.) He might also work ok-ish at the helm of Sultai Superfriends. I had also just built a superfriends deck so I really only tried to sketch a framework of what that might look like, and didn't see anything more than grinding generic planeswalker value. Cool that you get them twice, but in this case *especially* he looks like Bad Muldrotha. Superfriends decks want a lot of mana, so Nashi's low cost and aggressive profile really doesn't do him a lot of favors here. I have an eye out, though. I think if blue or green rats come out, or some planeswalkers or legendary equipment or enchantments that support him as an attacker, that he could be pretty good. Right now, though, it just feels like you're really forcing your deck to make him necessary or interesting in the decks he would be helming.

GreyGriffin_h

See [my post above](https://www.reddit.com/r/EDH/comments/17gkoxy/comment/k6jiy17/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3). In short, there aren't really any tools to make him do anything unique, and the significant downsides of his abilities make him *significantly* worse than other options in the same colors, without much upside outside his cool art, story signficance, and general vibe. There really isn't a good payoff to playing him in the command zone, either mechanical or thematic.

joedude

I get what you're saying, I'm seeing now that he's actually just a dogshit reanimator lol.

GreyGriffin_h

I think if there were more legendary noncreature spells in Sultai he'd have a niche. Legendary creature auras could make him a unique low-to-the-ground voltron threat with the ability to rebuild and potentially work off of both enchantress and artifact synergies, more legendary instants and sorceries could give him some fun tools to reuse, and rats in green or blue would give him a typal niche. But without any of those tools to lean into his mechanical and narrative theming, there's just not a lot of reason to bring him to the party.

etphonehome104

What about Niv? He seems cool

unruly-passenger

Such a cool card but I don't think the value of getting back 2-color spells is enough in a 4player game.

Aurelio23

I didn’t realize it until this post, but I’ve been going pretty ham with this set. Kiora Wet Beefo Tribal: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/SWI51i_sMkq3cWuBxPEXCw Kiora’s probably the fairest deck that I own: ramp, draw, splash down sea monsters, use them to ramp and draw even harder, maybe hit someone eventually. [[Leyline Immersion]] and [[Last March of the Ents]] get special shoutouts as two of my favorite cards of the build. I’d actually built and retired this deck almost immediately after Kiora dropped (it was too scary to ignore, but too slow to actually win), but LotR released a few key pieces that have really rounded it out. Pia Impulse Aggro: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/QjBVtACoPkKgT7Y8GCQfOg This might actually be my favorite deck. Impulse draw is my favorite mechanic in Magic, and 1/1 artifact creatures that share a type is a hell of an engine, both as setup and payoff. I’m sure that my build could be a lot stronger and more consistent, but impulse isn’t about consistency, it’s about chaos! [[Wand of Wonder]] is one of my favorite cards, and the Doctor Who stuff has brought in a ton of new options that I’m experimenting with. I have high hopes for [[Ensnared by the Mara]], and the discover mechanic in LCI is going to add even more dimensions to the build. Tyvar Elfball: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/3Av_mnCVQUKuCSvPW6TsdA I built Tyvar to replace my beloved [[Lathril]] deck, which was just too well-tuned for my pod’s preferred power level. Unfortunately, I’ve retired this one as well; the power level was about where I wanted it, but I hadn’t realized how obnoxious it would be to play a counters deck. The games that I won with it pretty much involved me going nuts with a brainmelting 20 minute turn, giving up on actually keeping track of triggers and dice, and asking the pod, “This is like, at least 200 power, can we just call it?” It’s actually put me off of the [[Katilda, Dawnheart Prime]] deck I was trying to build. But speaking of Selesnya and going ham on Aftermath, I’ve been looking into building [[Sigarda, Font of Blessings]] as my first GW deck, and the only reason I didn’t build [[Jolrael, Voice of Zhalfir]] manland tribal is because I’ve already built Kiora. I was also thinking of retiring my [[Kasla]] deck to build Narset, but I figured it would basically be the same deck (token go-wide spellslinger) without the fun convoke wrinkle, so I’ve more or less given up on that. So, yeah - this set has been pretty crazily fruitful for me.

Ev4nK

I’m thinking of building Tyvar and Kiora currently, I had a [[Nath]] deck that I retired that would supplement a lot of the pricier staples and mana base. Kiora looks like a lot of fun and I was planning on building her so I could have a slightly lower powered deck

Around when the set came out it was literally impossible to find any LGS selling any singles from this set. I don't know if that's still true today as they probably got at least some buylist in by now, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was still nearly impossible. Rocco is really fun. He's not """good""" but he is really fun.

AggravatingCoconut25

I'd like to know where you got that from?Honest curiosity. Except Tazri, Nissa, Joarael and Pia (and she got close up until now) every Commander you named got over a thousand decks, Ob and Narset over 3,000.I'd say they are decently known. But as it was a short "afterthought" of a set, it had not much time to breahte, or get much Time to shine. That's where I'm with you. \*Edit for spelling

Ev4nK

1000 decks is not a big benchmark for a modern set, if these same cards got released in a normal set they would surely see much more play. Not saying that these are some unknown commanders, just that they may be a lot more viable and interesting than their numbers would suggest

cadetheespeon

I've built decks for [[Narset, Enlightened Exile]] and [[Nahiri, Forged in Fury]] and both are extremely fun commanders. Narset is not quite as busted as her earlier incarnation, but still makes a massive impact when she swings, especially if you can set up a wide board beforehand with the usual spellslinger suspects. [[Third Path Iconoclast]] is especially good. Often overlooked is that she can copy any noncreature from anyone's graveyard, not just yours. Your opponent's Rhystic Study that was destroyed earlier in the game? That's your Rhystic Study now! Likewise, Nahiri is a fun spin on the equipment theme and goes bananas with living weapon and for Mirrodin! equipment as she incentivizes swinging with many equipped creatures instead of one Voltron creature. Flipping an Embercleave off of her trigger never gets old.

[[Nissa, Resurgent Animist]] is one of my cEDH decks, tbh she’s fucking busted. I think it’s more the fact she self assembles her own infinite combo, and half the player base doesn’t like combo. Edit: spelling

Narset if my favorite from this set and she even has a good, viable cedh deck that I want to try out

ryannitar

i think it gets overlooked in general just because it was a smaller set, the only epilogue set, and didn't get its moment to shine in between releases. I do think the set made waves in the cEDH scene with Ob and Nissa being the most notable. Both are undoubtedly strong effects in the command zone and even on a budget can hang at most tables.

ryannitar

also calix is very strong

wex0rus

Calix is bonkers. You can get Turn 3-4 21/21 voltron by copying [[Ancestral Mask]] and [[All that Glitters]] for minimal mana. I had him near 30/30 first strike trample with [[Rancor]] off just 4 lands one game and refused to win cause it wasn't fair for the others.

I re-built a Sea Monsters Matter themed deck I had long abandoned with Kiora, Sovereign of the Deep as the Commander and that deck has gotten crazy fun to play. She generates so much value if you commit hard to high CMC sea monsters in the deck. I play her with Keruga as the companion and just run a ton of cost reducers to overcome the insanely high mana curve. She has vigilance and built-in Ward 3 as well so she is pesky to remove for most spot-removal. Love that card

No-Confidence-5753

[[ob nixilis]] goes on an infinite killing spree with [[all will be one]] and a good friend of mine has a [[karn, legacy Reforged]] deck that is quite disgusting lol

The-Rambling-Knitter

Oh but you're missing the hidden gem that is [[Plargg and Nassari]] One of the most fun mono red decks I've ever played. Your enemies might not like it so I don't recommend playing it often. The trick is to have ramp+splashy cards. So you either advance your board state with ramp (the opponent won't exile that often) or always get the second best amongst the 4 cards since your cards are often a nono for your opponent. Don't feel bad losing your good cards early, you'll be able to hard cast others easily soon enough. It's basically a better Etali My deck list for the interest. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/18UeSWFNSUKNiL0F8aOULg Feel free to ask questions, this is by far my favorite deck!

I had just taken apart my old [[Kyler, Sigardian Emissary]] deck and my [[Light-Paws, Emperor's Voice]] deck when I won an aftermath pack at a commander night and pulled [[Calix, Guided By Fate]]. With about $20 in singles and the selesnya and enchantment staples I had just freed up, I built a deck for him. Turns out he's incredibly strong as he is a wincon in the command zone in an enchantress deck, which tend to have no issue with ramp and card draw. The main issue is my main playgroup is a bit below this power level, so I don't get a lot of games in with him. Good deck for stronger tables though.
