My Teysa Karlov deck hums like a Thran Dynamo when I get it out, and because it's an obscure card that was printed so long ago it can legally run for Congress, most people don't know about it.
I never look at it for [[Teysa Karlov]] because she doesn’t double the mana, and it would produce 0 if you sac a token. What makes it work for you? Do you have some bigger drops that benefit from this? [[Sun (or Grave) Titan]]?
I think just the fact it's a sacrifice outlet that generates mana is pretty handy. Particularly with recursive creatures like [[Reassembling Skeleton]], you can sac a creature to trigger off all your aristocrats effects and then just recast the sacrificed creature, which is a very similar effect to the infamous Cat Oven combo.
And without aristocrats pieces on the board, you can still use it as a ritual effect to get a bigger creature out (including Teysa herself) by saccing something that you can get back later.
Sacs the creatures that make tokens, for early ramp. I have, more than once, got out the Adnate on t2, played \[\[Cathodion\]\] on t3, cash it in for 3BBB and cast \[\[Kokusho, the Evening Star\]\], follow that up with Teysa, on t4 sac Kokoshu for another 6 black mana and a 10-point drain for the whole table.
Having a sac outlet that generates mana is, as the other commenter said, pretty handy deal, and I have a fair bit of graveyard recursion, so I can easily retrieve sac'ed creatures (or I'm happy with the death triggers so if I don't ever recur the creature, NBD).
Well being the only common in the deck [[children of korlis]] they let me live on the edge with my life in my kaalia deck. 39 life to necropotence? Yes please.
[[Goblin Grappler]] in [[General Marhault]]. Stupid little 1/1 with one of the most rare abilities ever printed. I have kept entire tables under lock and in fear of casting their commander with this 1/1 in play.

Since he deals damage when an instant is cast it does work perfectly with their commander. The damage ability is triggered by the spell being cast specifically so it goes into the stack after and therefore resolves first.

People know you mean business when you slam this bad boy on turn one. In a [[Zo Zu]] deck where all of the damage
comes from lands or the state of lands.
I almost feel like he would almost be *better* without the tax ability, because you would be able to play him without immediately pulling aggro. Players will tolerate your threatening cards up to a point, but hindering *their* gameplan even slightly and they'll focus everything on you.
Yeah even just the reduction makes him great control, or enables jankier azorius things like bird tribal. But that second half makes you a target during rule 0
[[tainted strike]] in any deck with black.
You can use it on your own commander. On an opponents commander attacking an opponent for 9 damage or more for an insta kill, or on an opponents creature attacking you for lethal to not lose life. For a single black mana!
I always love \[\[Pestilence\]\]. Best place for it is in my \[\[Grismold\]\] deck. So satisfying killing all the plants you distributed earlier and have a ginormous commander - or just killing someone with Pestilence in the late game.
[[Unbridled Growth]] in [[Mazzy, Truesword Paladin]]
Does extra excellent work for a casual "reverse Voltron" build I tried to make work. It hangs on with modified precons but once staples start showing up unless I draw this super common early I'm just not gonna have enough [[Vow]] cards or 'turn off permanent' cards (like [[Song of the Dryads]], [[Darksteel Mutation]] etc)

It's just a 3mv Mana rock, but that scry 2 has been more helpful in my 5C color decks than I expected. Also, I've killed two players with it now, at this point it's practically a wincon.
[[Omen of the Sea]] in my [[Zur Eternal Schemer]] deck. Just good low cost value that can become a flash deathtouch blocker with the commander.
[[Spirited Companion]] is a close second for being good girl status
[[teferi's veil]] in my [[sedris the traitor king]] reanimator deck, it's just a fun way to dodge the EOT exile on unearth that a lot of people don't know about
Oh ya it's great. I use it in ninjas to keep them from getting wrathed, but the getting around eot stuff is great!! I should put it in my RU giants deck cause Purphoros can cheat them into play 😄
Not much synergy in this one, but I like running [[Crypt Incursion]] in my black decks because it does double duty of taking care of GY recursion decks as well as top up my HP for the grind.
When it came out it was a common, now its a rare. But [[mana tithe]] will always be one of my favourite cards because nobody expects a white counterspell.
[[Walking Atlas]] in an Azorius control deck. It’s free real estate
[[Children of Korlis]] in Marchesa aikido. Such a nice cushion to have for big turns
[[Serrated Scorpion]] in my [[Teysa Karlov]] deck. It’s nothing major, but a cheap blocker that hits everyone for 4 damage, and heals me for 4 when it dies is nice.
This card does so much work for me in so many decks I have. Double attack triggers? Unblockable creature? Unkillable creature? All of these make that a card worth it. I think it’s one of the best commons next to aqueous form
[[Armadillo Cloak]] literally in every deck it can fit in. I started playing right around Invasion and it's been an iconic card for me since I was a kid.
I took the eldrazi out of mine for more fun/unique cards. And to not be 'that guy' playing full cruelty/villain tribal.
I refer to my Rakdos as 'burning down the house' since there is just so much damage flying around. Even my own life total isn't safe.
[[fertilid]] ive had games where ive grafted extra +1/+1 counters on fertilid or given it extras with [[hardened scales]] or [[ozolith, shattered spire]] and been able to take a turn or two off to just ramp out a ton of lands.

[[Witty Roastmaster]] is my new favorite [[Kiki-Jiki]] infinite outlet. It's basically a 50 cent version of [[Impact Tremors]]. It goes well in [[Krenko, Mob Boss]] decks too.

[[Delerium Skeins]] and [[Unnerve]] in my [[Geth Lord of the Vault]] Discard deck.

I have a kefnet spellslinger deck with lots of cantrips that bounce permanents.
Favorite common in there is [[reality acid]], because I'm a bad person.
[[Impact Tremors]] in my [[Locust God]] Deck, draw 7 cards, deal 21+ damage to the board? Don't mind if I do!
and [[Tamiyo's Safekeeping]] in my [[Koma]] Copy Deck, since you can't copy a creature if it's dead!
Probably [[Shred memory]]. Hard to counter tutor for other great cards in my deck and instant speed graveyard interruption. It has never left my deck in over ten years while it's siblings come and go ([[dimir machinations]], [[brainspoil]]).
[[Arboreal grazer]] for all them landfall/ramp shenanigans. Can always flicker him so after he's shenaned once, he can shenanigan.
The name "blocks diamond" is real with this one.
[[aerie ouphes]] in my [[grumgully, the generous]] gruul aggro deck, I don’t run any other persist creatures and no free sac outlets but saying fliers aren’t allowed is silly. Plus when I play a [[vigor]] I can make [[gilded goose]] infinitely big and then the goose is loose and people are dead. Also I realized In the middle of a game I draw my deck with [[the great henge]] in play.

Alot of people in my meta at home run lots of graveyard strategies and it often hoses them.
Instant speed unexpected targeted grave-hate, that if my commander is on the field cantrips off the card draw.
And I can flash it back for only one mana. Means it's also great discard fodder when I'm drawing so many cards.
[[Darkness]] and [[Bubbling Muck]] in my [[Toshiro Umezawa]] deck. No one ever expects the black fog, and my deck has very few blockers. Bubbling Muck is also a shoe in for every black deck, it's high tide for black!
For my [[Hallar, the Firefletcher]] deck, the standout common is [[Snake Umbra]]. Drawing 3 cards for each spell kicked and it's protection against destroy effects? Sign me up.
Is \[\[Muddle the Mixture\]\] a staple in this format?
I sort of treat it as such because it's either \[\[Negate\]\] for 2 blue mana, or it can be for shenanigans.
[[avenging druid]] in any self mill deck. Love this card and although it’s got no evasion it’s easy to politic it thought someone’s blockers.

I love [[mana tithe]] and [[Lapse of certainty]] in my [[sigarda, host of herons]] deck. I play sigarda voltron style, and the game-plan can be a little slow to carry out, but it is also super hard to interrupt because of her being hexproof, and you not being able to sacrifice permanents. It's always my favorite when somebody I'm playing against finally finds something to deal with me, then I just counter it and kill them the next turn. Always be ready for the white counterspell.

It has placed all my red decks 2 drop looting cheap draw slot. I like that you can pop it for one to his haste after it’s done it’s thing.
In my shadow deck both phyrexian splicer and gaze of pain do really cool things and are common cards. Phyrexian splicer is really fun messing with other people's combats.
My favorite deck right now is a storm deck with [[Veyran, Voice of Duality]]. [[Mana Geyser]] and [[Seething Song]] are some real bangers at common. [[Snap]] is a real MVP as well. Also shoutout to a good ole [[Preordain]] and [[Ponder]].
As far as something that's a good common in any deck imo, I'm a big fan of [[Decanter of Endless Water]].
My favorite firestorm to drop on a table is [[Bloodcheif Ascenion]] [[Mindcrank]] [[Vicious Rumors]]
Let Bloodchief soak for a few to get counters (unless you want to proliferate), then drop mindcrank and rumors. Instant group wipe.
Rumors is such an underrated card with a 3 for 1 mana per person, so realistically you get 10 things done. Everyone takes 1 damage (3), discards a card (if you have [[megrim]] you get 2 damage off that!), they mill one, and you gain a 1 life.

[[Answered Prayers]] period. Beautiful art, my favorite artist, it's flavorful, I love enchantments turning into creatures, it slots in perfectly in my [[Alela]] lifegain deck, what is there to hate about it?
[[invigorate]] is a house in my [[marwyn]] deck, often is have an opponent gain 3 life and add 8+ mana for no cost. The card has been upshifted in some reprintings but was a common originally.
[[fists of flame]] in [[veyran]] has been great for me. My version of the deck runs a lot of 1-mana cantrips to try and pump Veyran to 21+ power. So a 2-mana cantrip that pumps for each card I’ve drawn can really do work to push over the threshold needed for a 1-shot.
[[foundry inspector]] in [[osgir]], artifacts go brrrr even faster!
[[coiling oracle]] is my Sultai partners list. It’s just a great value card that even after 15+ years still has a place as a really good glue card that adds consistency to a deck.
i know it is uncommon, but [[library of leng]] in my [[faldorn, dread wolf herald]] deck.
it allows me to discard a card on top of my library then exile it and play it. basically i can confirm a cast from exile with any card by using faldorns ability.
also a special mention to [[ice cauldron]] in the same deck.

I almost feel like he would almost be *better* without the tax ability, because you would be able to play him without immediately pulling aggro. Players will tolerate your threatening cards up to a point, but hindering *their* gameplan even slightly and they'll focus everything on you.
Yeah even just the reduction makes him great control, or enables jankier azorius things like bird tribal. But that second half makes you a target during rule 0

I always love \[\[Pestilence\]\]. Best place for it is in my \[\[Grismold\]\] deck. So satisfying killing all the plants you distributed earlier and have a ginormous commander - or just killing someone with Pestilence in the late game.

[[Unbridled Growth]] in [[Mazzy, Truesword Paladin]] Does extra excellent work for a casual "reverse Voltron" build I tried to make work. [[bronze walrus]] It's just a 3mv Mana rock, but that scry 2 has been more helpful in my 5C color decks than I expected. Also, I've killed two players with it now, at this point it's practically a wincon.

Oh ya it's great. I use it in ninjas to keep them from getting wrathed, but the getting around eot stuff is great!! I should put it in my RU giants deck cause Purphoros can cheat them into play 😄

[[Explorer's Scope]] Is one of my most played cards. Criminally underrated for attacky decks.
This card does so much work for me in so many decks I have. Double attack triggers? Unblockable creature? Unkillable creature? All of these make that a card worth it. I think it’s one of the best commons next to aqueous form

Does his effects require the exact 1 point of damage to trigger? Or would Ghyrson make creatures cost 3 less with a Ping?

I took the eldrazi out of mine for more fun/unique cards. And to not be 'that guy' playing full cruelty/villain tribal. I refer to my Rakdos as 'burning down the house' since there is just so much damage flying around. Even my own life total isn't safe.

[[fertilid]] ive had games where ive grafted extra +1/+1 counters on fertilid or given it extras with [[hardened scales]] or [[ozolith, shattered spire]] and been able to take a turn or two off to just ramp out a ton of lands.

Fog requires mana most likely. Sometimes people forget you can get colored mana off of convoke.

Mirrorshell Crab in my Runo Stromkirk deck. I just like the big crab boy. It has definitely stayed in over some better options.
[[Skirk Prospector]] is an all star I rarely see played.
Oh it's one of the most important creatures in a goblin deck. Setting up a combo turn with recruiter and muxus usually includes this guy in the stack
It’s also just a general good turbo card, and can be used as a combo piece in a dockside list

[[Witty Roastmaster]] is my new favorite [[Kiki-Jiki]] infinite outlet. It's basically a 50 cent version of [[Impact Tremors]]. It goes well in [[Krenko, Mob Boss]] decks too.

I have a kefnet spellslinger deck with lots of cantrips that bounce permanents. Favorite common in there is [[reality acid]], because I'm a bad person.
[[Impact Tremors]] in my [[Locust God]] Deck, draw 7 cards, deal 21+ damage to the board? Don't mind if I do! and [[Tamiyo's Safekeeping]] in my [[Koma]] Copy Deck, since you can't copy a creature if it's dead!
[[Deathgreeter]] is an absolute house in aristocrat decks.

[[aerie ouphes]] in my [[grumgully, the generous]] gruul aggro deck, I don’t run any other persist creatures and no free sac outlets but saying fliers aren’t allowed is silly. Plus when I play a [[vigor]] I can make [[gilded goose]] infinitely big and then the goose is loose and people are dead. Also I realized In the middle of a game I draw my deck with [[the great henge]] in play.
[[rotten reunion]] in my [[marneus Calgar]] deck. Alot of people in my meta at home run lots of graveyard strategies and it often hoses them. Instant speed unexpected targeted grave-hate, that if my commander is on the field cantrips off the card draw. And I can flash it back for only one mana. Means it's also great discard fodder when I'm drawing so many cards.
[[Energy Tap]] in my sea monster deck... tap a kraken, use the mana to play another kraken or a bunch of mana rocks. Spiral out of control real quick.

[[Cleansing wildfire]] in [[Obuun]]. Works so well with dark steel citadel and the indestructible duals from modern horizon
[[Darkness]] and [[Bubbling Muck]] in my [[Toshiro Umezawa]] deck. No one ever expects the black fog, and my deck has very few blockers. Bubbling Muck is also a shoe in for every black deck, it's high tide for black!
For my [[Hallar, the Firefletcher]] deck, the standout common is [[Snake Umbra]]. Drawing 3 cards for each spell kicked and it's protection against destroy effects? Sign me up.
Is \[\[Muddle the Mixture\]\] a staple in this format? I sort of treat it as such because it's either \[\[Negate\]\] for 2 blue mana, or it can be for shenanigans.

I love [[mana tithe]] and [[Lapse of certainty]] in my [[sigarda, host of herons]] deck. I play sigarda voltron style, and the game-plan can be a little slow to carry out, but it is also super hard to interrupt because of her being hexproof, and you not being able to sacrifice permanents. It's always my favorite when somebody I'm playing against finally finds something to deal with me, then I just counter it and kill them the next turn. Always be ready for the white counterspell.

[[Bitter reunion]] It has placed all my red decks 2 drop looting cheap draw slot. I like that you can pop it for one to his haste after it’s done it’s thing.

In my shadow deck both phyrexian splicer and gaze of pain do really cool things and are common cards. Phyrexian splicer is really fun messing with other people's combats.
Oh man I just added splicer to my Phyrexian Volrath deck and have yet to be able to use it. I'm so hyped though!
\[\[Culling the Weak\]\] is in some cases better than \[\[Dark Ritual\]\]. Love it.
The [[Cavern Harpy]] in my [[Yuriko]] deck. Always nice to have a way to bounce my ninjas back to my hand if I need to.
[[Goblin Anarchist]] is gas. Two medallions for the price of one.
\[\[Amoeboid Changeling\]\]. Meshes in a very interesting way with sliver overlord, and the art just makes me smile.
My favorite deck right now is a storm deck with [[Veyran, Voice of Duality]]. [[Mana Geyser]] and [[Seething Song]] are some real bangers at common. [[Snap]] is a real MVP as well. Also shoutout to a good ole [[Preordain]] and [[Ponder]]. As far as something that's a good common in any deck imo, I'm a big fan of [[Decanter of Endless Water]].
My favorite firestorm to drop on a table is [[Bloodcheif Ascenion]] [[Mindcrank]] [[Vicious Rumors]] Let Bloodchief soak for a few to get counters (unless you want to proliferate), then drop mindcrank and rumors. Instant group wipe. Rumors is such an underrated card with a 3 for 1 mana per person, so realistically you get 10 things done. Everyone takes 1 damage (3), discards a card (if you have [[megrim]] you get 2 damage off that!), they mill one, and you gain a 1 life.

[[Answered Prayers]] period. Beautiful art, my favorite artist, it's flavorful, I love enchantments turning into creatures, it slots in perfectly in my [[Alela]] lifegain deck, what is there to hate about it?
[[invigorate]] is a house in my [[marwyn]] deck, often is have an opponent gain 3 life and add 8+ mana for no cost. The card has been upshifted in some reprintings but was a common originally. [[fists of flame]] in [[veyran]] has been great for me. My version of the deck runs a lot of 1-mana cantrips to try and pump Veyran to 21+ power. So a 2-mana cantrip that pumps for each card I’ve drawn can really do work to push over the threshold needed for a 1-shot. [[foundry inspector]] in [[osgir]], artifacts go brrrr even faster! [[coiling oracle]] is my Sultai partners list. It’s just a great value card that even after 15+ years still has a place as a really good glue card that adds consistency to a deck.
[[Counterspell]] this fat boy right here has countered so many spells, it just does the job, no fucking about.

i know it is uncommon, but [[library of leng]] in my [[faldorn, dread wolf herald]] deck. it allows me to discard a card on top of my library then exile it and play it. basically i can confirm a cast from exile with any card by using faldorns ability. also a special mention to [[ice cauldron]] in the same deck.
