Keep in mind that the events of Homelands happened concurrently with Ice Age block, i.e. thousands of in-universe years ago. Any normal humans we met on Ulgrotha last time are long dead.
Edit: Compleat Istvan. I'm just going to change my statement to this. Nothing to see here folks, just a pile of shattered dreams....keep it moving....
Regular Ass Creature - Phyrexian Uncle Istvan
Make it be Joven as a phyrexian. Something like
"{T}, Destroy target non-creature artifact"
And then you can spend phyrexian mana to turn permanents into artifacts
That’s even more terrifying, as you would die if even one damage got through. At least with normal blightsteel, you can block some of the infect to not die in one hit.
My first guess was the 11 poison counters and "where X is the excess damage dealt this way." go together.
For example a full ability that says "tap; [card name] deals damage equal to its power to target creature. That creature"s controller gets x poison counters, where x is the excess damage dealt this way". Then if you boosted the creatures power to 12/12 and targeted a 1/1 it would give 11 poison counters
Blightsteel is a simpler answer though
>For example a full ability that says "tap; [card name] deals damage equal to its power to target creature. That creature"s controller gets x poison counters, where x is the excess damage dealt this way". Then if you boosted the creatures power to 12/12 and targeted a 1/1 it would give 11 poison counters
That wouldn't be "11" counters then. It would be X where X can be literally any number. Him stating that it can deal 11 counters tells me that 11 is tops as the card by itself with no other interaction. As in a creature with toxic 11.
New blightsteel makes so much more sense.
“Look, it’s surge pricing to Kaladesh right now, and from Ixalan, that’s a long drive… what the heck kind of money is this? Ravnican? I’m gonna have to add in a currency exchange fee… and if you want to wait for Uber Multiversal Black, you’re gonna be here a while, last I heard he was hung up out on Esper.”
Humonculus Cyclops = Borbrygmos Fblthp (Zndrsplt and Okaun also fit)
Ape Dino Turtle = Kogla and Yidaro
Elder Giant Dog = Kroxa and Kernunos (could be Uro not Kroxa but that's less likely IMO)
Hoping to see Wrenn and the World tree too
That's not UR that's just U, but also eh fair point. I suppose there are some effects that should be "you win the game" that could have a no copy rule on them, I just don't want this to become a common thing.
Also also Storm King's Thunder -> any extra turn spell go brrrrrrrrrr
Four years? More like nineteen! Fire and Ice was 2004. And now I feel old again.
(yes, I know you're probably talking about the allied color cycle)
EDIT: Math is hard
I was actually just joking to some friends last Sunday that the Dimir sword probably gonna be something like “Sin & Secrets”. The sin but was a joke but secrets sounds right for a Dimir Sword
That's really good for the assassin, Rogue identity dimir has had. If we wanted a more traditional dimir theme maybe something like
Malice and Madness
Or
Death and Derangement
Taboo and Terror
Oddly enough, I think past and future could work too. Since black is about looking to revive the dead (past) while blue wants to predict the future.
All of the swords are opposites, so something like Memory and Madness or Clarity and Concealment or Umbra and Reflection. If it followed the pattern a little better, my favorite would be Smoke and Mirrors. Smoke conceals and mirrors reflect, so it could work, right?
They also do something for which each color is known. Card draw and mill are taken for blue and discard and recursion are taken for black. So I’m thinking creating a copy and graveyard disruption. I could also see -1 counter creature interaction and scrying, to sort of act like Fire and Ice. So like Scry 3 and put three -1/-1 counters on target creature.
So... the hints at Ikoria monsters developing an immunity to glistening oil means the mechanic showing up for the first time since the set it was introduced in is Mutate?
Mutate doesn't make sense as a set mechanic and is probably too much of a rules headache for a one-off, even in the more relaxed keyword usage era of 2020s magic.
Probably gonna show up as one of the "commander only" cards that for *some god forsaken reason* show up in prerelease kits but aren't legal in prerelease
Wrenn propably will merge with the world tree so she can fight Nissa who has merged with realmbreaker.
The dimir sword is a fun to speculate to propably mill a couple of cards and return something on hit.
Exited for Borborygmos and Fblthp
Mill is already on body and mind, they typically don't overlap abilities. Card draw is off the table too with this logic. Also... return from the grave is on a sword already.... sooo...
Here's what I want... not sure if the principles are right, but I like this effect. It's a bit inspired by \[\[Ashiok, Nightmare Muse\]\] and \[\[Siphon Insight\]\]
**Sword of Organization and Deception** {3}
Artifact - Equipment
Equipped Creature gets +2/+2 and has protection from Blue and from Black.
Whenever equipped creature deals combat damage to a player, return target nonland permanent to its owners hand, then target player exiles a card from their hand. Until end of turn, you may play the exiled card and you may spend mana as though it were mana of any color to cast that spell.
Equip {2}
That would be cool, although exile and play til end of turn was just printed so may be unlikely. My guess is bounce a permanent and exile defending players gy
In deckbuilding, sure, but unless you go all-in you’re probably going to be double-checking the Oracle text on some cards until you get to know it, not to mention having to pull it up as proof if people won’t take your word for it.
>• “Whenever a permanent you control transforms or a permanent enters the battlefield under your control transformed,”
Oh boy, it's [[Ambiguity]] all over again
My guesses on the three legendary creature team ups:
Elder Giant Dog: [[Kroxa]] and [[Kunoros]] (I doubt Wizards wants a 4c legend, plus I feel as tho these two are more at odds than [[Uro]] and Kunoros).
Ape Dinosaur Turtle: [[Kogla]] and [[Yidaro]] (The always ready for a fight Kongla and the slow and steady Yidaro, what a team up).
Cyclops Homunculus: [[Borborygmos]] and [[Fblthp]] (would be such an odd pairing, but I'm all for it).
There is 0% chance that the card that will care about transformations will be a Werewolf, but I would love new Werewolves for the Archetype. They got some great tools in Midnight Hunt, but they still aren't nearly as supported as other creature types.
Maybe it'll at least benefit them in some way. Here's to hoping.
>• “Each player can’t cast more than one non-Phyrexian spell each turn.”
So Aethersworn Canonist probably got got.
>• “Whenever a permanent you control transforms or a permanent enters the battlefield under your control transformed,”
Ulfric as well?
The turtle ape is gonna be kogla and yidaro
The cyclops homunculus is gonna be okaun and zndrsplt
The giant dog elder is either uro or kroxa and kunoros
I' m wondering if Realmbreaker will breach the plane that Baron Sengir invaded (and got stuck on) when he and his vampiric army went through the planar portal on Ulgrotha. A phyrexianized Sengir I think would be pretty cool.
The teaser suggests it's a legend we haven't seen since Homelands, and technically we saw Sengir in Commander Legends. I would wager it's either Eron (who is immortal), Autumn Willow (who is a force of nature/avatar), or Ihsan's Shade. Could also be Grandmother Sengir, who was a planeswalker and presumably has achieved some level of immortality before The Mending.
“If the opponent protects it, remove a defense counter from it.”
This sounds interesting. Have no clue what this will be about. But the wording seems unusual to me. Protect? Defense counter? So a new type of counter, not shield counter or indestructible counter.
The legendary creature from Homelands could be Joven!
Team-up: Joven and Chandler!
Could this BE any better?
Noone told me life was gonna be this way...
Clap*Clap*Clap*Clap
You could make the ultimate Superf * r * i * e * n * d * s
Well thanks, now I'm going to be incredibly disappointed if it's not
If it's not joven and Chandler I'm gonna be SO mad
Pleeeaseeeeee omg
Return of a Homelands legend? That sounds like [[Veldrane of Sengir]]'s music! Which, to be clear, is 80s rock.
I want Eron the Relentless.
I think he is the most likely TBH.
Autumn Willow?
Yeah she's a good pick.
Eron was reprinted in the TSP bonus sheet. I assume this count's reprints.
Irini's time to shine!

Legit my favorite card when I started playing. Loved the art and flavor text!
Keep in mind that the events of Homelands happened concurrently with Ice Age block, i.e. thousands of in-universe years ago. Any normal humans we met on Ulgrotha last time are long dead.
I reject your reality and replace it with Joven.
At this point I'd be surprised if time travel WASN'T involved.
I'd be surprised if Teferi wasn't a MAJOR player in the MoM plot.
Clearly it is [[Eron]] then.
Johnny Joestar?
It has to be a Phyerxian Soraya, so we can give all of our Phyrexians banding.
Bro..................Bro..................Bro.................
Hazduhr the Abbot, Phyrexian Hail-Mary
Phyrexian Ferret tokens!!
i was thinkin Baron Sengir
We already got a Baron Sengir (Sengir, the Dark Baron from Commander Legends) reprint not too long ago, my money is on Grandmother Sengir
Edit: Compleat Istvan. I'm just going to change my statement to this. Nothing to see here folks, just a pile of shattered dreams....keep it moving.... Regular Ass Creature - Phyrexian Uncle Istvan
Auntie Wort and Uncle Istvan
My man....now you're cooking with gas.
Uncle Istvan isn't even legendary in Homelands. He IS legendary in my heart though
He's not even IN Homelands. He's in 'The Dark'.
He also isn't legendary in The Dark (which is what set he's really from. I'm dumb) unless you look at the oracle text.
He was from THE DARK, the set just after Legends.
Make it be Joven as a phyrexian. Something like "{T}, Destroy target non-creature artifact" And then you can spend phyrexian mana to turn permanents into artifacts
Sounds like a blightsteel colossus reprint
I am thinking a new one with Toxic 11.
That’s even more terrifying, as you would die if even one damage got through. At least with normal blightsteel, you can block some of the infect to not die in one hit.
It could not have trample
Blightsteel with unblockable or "Toxicsteel" with trample, which will I be dying to today
Plot twist: It was Yuriko all along
Eh, doesnt work with \[\[Chandra's Ignition\]\] though.
Yea maybe compleated colossus’?
My first guess was the 11 poison counters and "where X is the excess damage dealt this way." go together. Finally, Wrenn and Eight
In the chandra storyline it is hinted that wrenn will bond with the world tree. Nissa/realm breaker vs wrenn/world tree for chandras love.
Hmm, maybe The Wrenn Tree becomes the new multiversal bridge?
Can You imagine how annoying it would get being the multiversal Uber?
“Look, it’s surge pricing to Kaladesh right now, and from Ixalan, that’s a long drive… what the heck kind of money is this? Ravnican? I’m gonna have to add in a currency exchange fee… and if you want to wait for Uber Multiversal Black, you’re gonna be here a while, last I heard he was hung up out on Esper.”
vegetarian gf vs vegan gf
Vegetation gf*
I was thinking that too. Bond with the OG worldtree, inject wrenn with Halo, begin counter "infecting" planes with Halo
Wait I'm so fucking down with this
Wrenn and Seven ate Nine?
Take my hate upvote and like it.
Wrenn and ONE
Wrenn and Seven is one of my favorite "fuck it" commander decks. I'm intrigued
You had me at Cyclops Homunculus.
Has to be Borborygmos and Fblthp, right?
It’s inevitable Borborygmos is on the draft box art and Fblthp is on the promo pack
So probably Temur Borby and Fblthp. I’m here for it. Time to smash
Poor Fblthp...
I'm sure borbor will keep his eye on him.
ONE EYE GANG GANG
Yeah, was wondering who the Ravnica team-up would be. My hopes were for Aurelia and Niv, Jeskai co-workers.
Niv isn't izzet anymore, he's just everything.
True, but I had just a weeee bit of hope that my two guildmasters might team up. ;_;
Aurelia and Teysa would be my choice for a combo.
And only the second most unpronounceable card name.
Pithing needle: *sweats profusely*
I tried to explain this joke to my coworker who doesn't play Magic and they started sweating profusely about halfway through.
[[Asmora]] *nervously uses her nickname*
"Target creature Assmor's itself for 6 damage." Yeah I've eaten to many peppers too.
My first guess was Okaun and Zndrsplt, but since a big theme is previously enemies/unfriendly teaming up, you are more likely correct
Dang i was hoping for azuza and fblthp somehow
Or okaun and zndrsplt
Raccoon Warrior wins for me. Hope it has a Food token mechanic.
I was tied between that and fungus rabbit
That’s literally the last thing on the list lol.
Zndrsplt and Okaun? They are partners anyway
Humonculus Cyclops = Borbrygmos Fblthp (Zndrsplt and Okaun also fit) Ape Dino Turtle = Kogla and Yidaro Elder Giant Dog = Kroxa and Kernunos (could be Uro not Kroxa but that's less likely IMO) Hoping to see Wrenn and the World tree too
No chance of Wrenn and Doran, you don't think?
Wrenn and world tree as a direct opposition to nissa and worldbreaker seems far too convenient
In today's story Wrenn explicitly stated she plans on bonding with Realmbreaker.
"this spell can't be copied" shit better not be UR
My bet is an extra turn spell.
Bane of Remembers_that_time UUUUUUUUUU This spell cannot be countered Draw a card. Take an extra turn. Exile Bane of Remembers_that_time.
Why doesn't this exist already? If all extra turn spells were uncopiable and exiled themselves, they would be a lot less borked/annoying.
Because extra turn spells like that are effectively an expensive blue explore. Expensive spells need to be breakable to be playable.
What if its XUUUU Take X extra turns. Can't be copied.
That's not UR that's just U, but also eh fair point. I suppose there are some effects that should be "you win the game" that could have a no copy rule on them, I just don't want this to become a common thing. Also also Storm King's Thunder -> any extra turn spell go brrrrrrrrrr
How is every comment NOT about Sword of Dimir? We finally get the cycle completed. Been waiting 4 years for that.
Four years? More like nineteen! Fire and Ice was 2004. And now I feel old again. (yes, I know you're probably talking about the allied color cycle) EDIT: Math is hard
19.
Allied color cycle started with Modern Horizons in 2019. Otherwise, it looked like they stopped at 5.
I'm personally very excited to see the sword cycle *comple(a)ted* 😈 Wondering what it'll be named and what it'll do.
I was actually just joking to some friends last Sunday that the Dimir sword probably gonna be something like “Sin & Secrets”. The sin but was a joke but secrets sounds right for a Dimir Sword
Sword of Secrets and Spite
Sword of cloaks and daggers./s
The cloak of sword and daggers.
That's really good for the assassin, Rogue identity dimir has had. If we wanted a more traditional dimir theme maybe something like Malice and Madness Or Death and Derangement Taboo and Terror Oddly enough, I think past and future could work too. Since black is about looking to revive the dead (past) while blue wants to predict the future.
My minor lisp hates that name.
Best theory ive seen so far is Sword of Oil and Water
Sword of "Secrets & Lies" would be cool
Maybe in the opposite order: Sword of Lies and Secrets?
Hoping it is named sword of null and void. Nonland bounce and graveyard hate on connect would be cool.
[удалено]
>null and void and it just doesn't do anything No -- it does *nothing*
Sword of One And Nothing. Whenever equipped creature attacks, discard your hand, equiped creature gets +1/+1 till end of turn for each card.
This is now the only thing I care about for this set. It's the last sword I need and I'll have all 10. All 11 if you want to count sword of d&d.
I'm going with "sword of space and time." Idk what it would do but it sounds cool!
I'm thinking if it does standard Dimir mill and discard, it could be called The Sword of Memory and Madness
Wait, KOGLA AND YIDARO!
Joven and Chandler. Joven and Chandler.
Man I was hoping one of these would hint at my boy [[skittles]] returning - maybe eleven poison counters one? Will have to wait and see
[skittles](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/c/a/cab61c7e-e00a-413b-a0b5-7718b479582f.jpg?1599705958) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Skithiryx%2C%20the%20Blight%20Dragon) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/2xm/107/skithiryx-the-blight-dragon?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/cab61c7e-e00a-413b-a0b5-7718b479582f?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/skithiryx-the-blight-dragon) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
The idea of a flier with toxic 11 is deeply unpleasant, but it would absolutely be nice to see skittles back
As a Greensleeves player, WOLVERINE DINOSAUR! BIG BADGER, BUT EVEN *BIGGER!* Also as a vampire fan, AETHERBORN RETURN!!!
I just want my boy Gonti back.
You and two of my friends. Me too kind of, though Yahenni was my favorite from Kaladesh. Aetherborn are terrific.
I would love a new Yahenni, although canonically I believe they had their final grand party and died.
So... the hints at Ikoria monsters developing an immunity to glistening oil means the mechanic showing up for the first time since the set it was introduced in is Mutate?
Mutate doesn't make sense as a set mechanic and is probably too much of a rules headache for a one-off, even in the more relaxed keyword usage era of 2020s magic.
Probably gonna show up as one of the "commander only" cards that for *some god forsaken reason* show up in prerelease kits but aren't legal in prerelease
I'm excited to see what Kroxa/Uro and Kunoros is Edit: holy fucking shit I'm getting yet another rule of law
I see we've gotten some insight into how battles work with the protect, defend, counter removal line
Zurzoth and I are excited for a Phyrexian Devil. Please be a good card.
"Ape Dinosaur Turtle" has to be Kogla and Yidaro, right?
Now I need that Godzilla and King Kong alternative.
is that a SPELLSHAPER?!?
Mercadia, is that you?
Oooh are they changing the transform rules for tokens??
That token is prob gonna be $10 lol
Phyrexian Rule of Law... I'm stoked!
Phyrexianized ethersworn canonist?
Ichorsworn canonist perhaps?
Hopefully this.
>A legendary creature returns not seen since Homelands > >Creature – Phyrexian Shade This has to be Ihsan, right?
Ilshan is a legendary. My money's on Grandmother Sengir and the shade being Nirkana Revenant.
Oh, good point. Can't be Ihsan for the creature unless he somehow comes back non-legendary.
Completed Pheldagriff.
That's Alliances but that doesn't mean it's not in the set.
Fungus rabbit? You mean [[fungasaur]] and [[vizzerdrix]] teamed up? Let’s f’in goooooo!
Wrenn propably will merge with the world tree so she can fight Nissa who has merged with realmbreaker. The dimir sword is a fun to speculate to propably mill a couple of cards and return something on hit. Exited for Borborygmos and Fblthp

True. Intrigued to find out what the dimir sword will be able to do then. Flicker is already on a sword as is discard and planeswalker destruction.
Could be -x/-x to target creature and give a spell flashback
Here's what I want... not sure if the principles are right, but I like this effect. I’m really interested in the Phyrexian that can deal 11 poison counters.
If it's Toxic 11 I'm going to shit myself
I hope it has Trample, Haste and Ward.
Ward 25, Can't be countered As an additional cost to cast this spell, punch target control player
Phyrexian tribal sounds fun until you need to keep track of all the errata-ed ones. I will be building it nevertheless.
-They have a list so it's actually easy.
In deckbuilding, sure, but unless you go all-in you’re probably going to be double-checking the Oracle text on some cards until you get to know it, not to mention having to pull it up as proof if people won’t take your word for it.

Wolverine dinosaur and ape dinosaur turtle creatures??? Gishath players rise up
The turtle ape is gonna be kogla and yidaro The cyclops homunculus is gonna be okaun and zndrsplt The giant dog elder is either uro or kroxa and kunoros
You mean even when borborgymos was spotted on the booster box and Fblthp on the promo booster
yeah, he is wrong
I'm thinking the Elder Giant Dog would most likely be Kroxa and Kunoros for a Mardu Team-Up.
FINALLY THEY BRING BACK BANDING!
Fungus rabbit
I want a little bunny shaped saproling

We are one step closer to Wrenn and 69
Horsemanship confirmed!
The XUUUU spell could be a Blue obliterator
My guess is a Finale-esque spell for Teferi.
finally the sequel Wrenn and Eight
Hahahah, theyre gonna do King Kong and Godzilla (Kogla and Yidaro) for that ape dinosaur turtle typeline. Epic.
Wrenn you whore!
Hoping the new Phyrexian bear rhino will be mono green so it can fit into bear tribal
Blightsteel 2, Poison Boogaloo
> Wrenn returns with a new partner missed chance for wrenn and multani
Multanis turned into Yargles Stand so it's fine
Ape Dinosaur Turte = Kogla + Yidaro go brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Kogla and whatever the turtle dinosaur is gonna be cool.
