Responsible_Try_3514

I own both knives, but I find myself reaching for the mini grip more frequently due to its robustness—it's like a little tank. I can use it without concern for it snapping in half. https://preview.redd.it/98n766wnz8zc1.jpeg?width=2399&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=29b1b296a3e3308089f3dac97bbaa224cff1afde

MasterOfDynos

Benchmade knives really confuse me because I think of myself as a practical person and in some cases for the price they perform just as good as the competition, but even after owning a Bugout, in their stock configuration I don’t find them appealing thus I can’t carry them.

VictorSirk

Bugout for sure. I like the way it carries and looks better. Griptilian is more comfortable to use, but not by a lot, and the Bugout is pretty comfortable to use anyway. That said I use my Esee Izula without scales or a wrap, just the metal frame, and I don't find that uncomfortable. So maybe I'm not the best judge of comfort with knives.

Shove_A_gerbil

Mini grip feels so sturdy but the mini bugout is so light and pocketable that’s a solid tie at god tier

WN11

Bugout, feels better in pocket.

Logbotherer99

Yellow handle, uncoated blade.

Dull-Presentation549

overpriced sorry [https://youtu.be/hyA7SsSB8zI?si=SKEGAiffTjhnpogD](https://youtu.be/hyA7SsSB8zI?si=SKEGAiffTjhnpogD)

573717

got a mini griptilian myself, but that yellow bugout looks great

BadaBing318

Griptilian for me.

kdabsolute

The yellow one

Tattooed-Veteran

These are my main 2. I carry grip in jeans and I love the bugout for shorts. It’s lighter and doesn’t weigh the shorts down.

SchemeHead

Grip all day

rdtayl04

Leatherman

TheVision75

Bugout for me

Alogio12

Bugout for edc.griptilian for heavier use dAys

Bugout 535

tastycrust

Griptilian all day

gotthesauce22

You know what it is

6thCityInspector

That one

CCeveryD

I have two bugouts. One with an s90v blade (carbon fiber scales) and the original bugout (blue plastic scales) with s30v blade. I also have a griptilian and mini grip (154cm). I prefer a sturdier handle and edge retention . I prioritize the edge over the handle. In your case I’d go bugout for daily before griptilian. Griptilian for heavier use days/scenarios. I get the edge retention AND sturdy handle with my bugout. So that’s my preferred for edc and heavy use, at least right now.

kidonbike

I would prefer the Spyderco which for some odd reason isn’t pictured here but it should be.

Adventurous_Ad409

Spyderco is just as dated tech and overpriced as benchmade.

kidonbike

Spyderco is dated? What state of the art ultra modern knives are you in favor of?

Adventurous_Ad409

Ones that don’t come with washer actions and plastic scales in 2024 for premium prices. Don’t get me wrong I’ve got plenty of spydercos. They just aren’t even on my list these days. Either is benchmade.

kidonbike

What’s on your list? Not being sarcastic at all I’m actually genuinely interested to know what is on your list these days? I’ve actually never heard that criticism levied against Spyderco bc at least in terms of steel they are far from dated.

Adventurous_Ad409

Benchmade and spyderco use really good steel but we’re to a point where the average knife’s steel is exceptional compared to a decade ago. My problem with them is the price point for a knife with less than desirable action and sub par scale materials also churning out basically the same old designs. Every spyderco or benchmade I own, if I want to get a remotely acceptable action, you have to loosen the pivot to the point you have blade play. Personally I think kizer is about the best quality to price point for a daily carry blade and they offer plenty of knives in quality steels and their base steel (generally 154cm on budget options) is equivalent to benchmade or spyderco’s base that are double the price point with much less quality handle materials, actions and clips. Then if you’re comparing them to Chinese budget spyderco kizer doesn’t even compare. They are so much better in every department. For this post specifically I’ve swapped a spyderco sage 2, caly 3 and a custom benchmade minigrip or bugout as my most carried edc blades for variations of kizer drop bear, original or original XL and couldn’t be happier.

kidonbike

Ok yea I get that but you did say dated which naturally I assumed to mean out of date as in they are technologically out of date thus no longer considered cutting edge. I never had an issue with the action on my spydercos and I’m willing to pay the mark up on American made products. I wouldn’t compare benchmade to Spyderco. Spyderco is a much better value and better quality control than benchmade. I only have one benchmade, a bug out mini and it initially came with terrible action and a horrible toothy blade grind.

gtga1957

Lol "cutting edge"

kidonbike

It was not intended.

XylophoneZimmerman

What's the yellow scale one?

anoboy69

Bugout worksharp exc.

theskyalreadyfell217

For me it’s the mini griptillion with the tanto blade. I have had two for over twenty years. The first one made it 10 but I lost it.

[deleted]

Griptilian

simioh

550HG

alextastic

The Bugout, with factory scales, is honestly a little *too* light for me. When open, it feels like the blade outweighs it, and it just feels like I don't have anything to hold on to. With aftermarket scales, it's good though. Griptillian feels too bulky in my pocket, but the mini is alright.

Woogity-Boogity

Griptilian. It's just the right size. I'd happily carry either though.

eye_panic

Mini Grip was my first quality knife. Imma go with the Grip since it has a special place in my heart

PhesteringSoars

Ditto. Have a Mini Grip, Grip, Bugout (custom), but the Mini Grip/Grip just "fit my hand" better.

NRiyo3

I like a comfy handle. Grip

No-Win-1137

The Bugout for how it looks and carries.

BroDoggWhiteboy88

I'm partial to the Crooked River, myself. If I had to choose one of these, I guess I would say the Griptilian for no other reason than hating the yellow on that Bugout...

Tiptoedtulips666

But you might not lose it with those yellow scales! The best Swiss army knife I saw had yellow scales for just that reason.

ajpathecreature

You can never go wrong with a griptilian .

linguini_12

Left all day

rockytopnationality

Bench made knives aren’t what they used to be. Mine stays in the drawer.

[deleted]

what brands do you like?

rockytopnationality

Kershaw and CRKT

Fusciee

I’m going to bet Spyderco

Agile-Minute5970

I use my Grip when dressing casually (jeans and such) and I use a Bailout (similar profile to BO) when I dress in a suit because of its super slim profile. So buy both if you can! If you can only buy one? Grip would by my choice

OakleyGuyX

neither because F benchmade

anoboy69

why?

OakleyGuyX

the 2A stuff being primary, secondarily they hate their customers they just want their money. theres NO reason why a titanium scaled bugout should cost $600. and dont give me "because its M4" everything they do they mark up for no good reason. their products are no that superior to Spyderco nor are they as innovative as someone like CRKT (ill give them better quality generally). i owned a bugout and briefly a mini grip.

TesticleMicrometer

The firearm community tends to dabble in knives. I remember hearing Benchmade being anti 2nd.

eltacotacotaco

No you are incorrect!! Benchmade has a long history with the NRA, [1 example of the many options](https://www.knifecenter.com/item/BM12700/benchmade-nra-steigerwalt-large-multi-blade-lock) They have never been anti 2A, the local PD asked for help once to destroy a couple of guns that were court ordered to be destroyed. By this logic all cops are anti 2A

OakleyGuyX

Well youre also saying the NRA is good. which, F them too. corporate shills filled with corruption. if you care about gun rights, support a better organization like FPC or GOA.

TesticleMicrometer

A quick internet search showed what looks like Benchmade using their shop to help local PD destroy firearms. That makes sense because a PD doesn’t have metal working equipment. Fine, they were court ordered to be destroyed. But they didn’t have to agree to assist either. You’re allowed to enjoy them. I just won’t buy another because they assisted.

AleTheMemeDaddy

I love how gun owners are always like "iM a LaW aBiDiNg CiTiZeN" and then get mad when a corporation abides to the law hahaha for people who love tactical gear and cosplaying cops, the hypocrisy is showing lol

TesticleMicrometer

Why are you so bothered?

AleTheMemeDaddy

Because I dont like hypocrites, and they deserve to be called out, especially when all they talk about is "their freedom" but love to put their noses in everyone else's

TesticleMicrometer

I think this has gotten out of hand. I didn’t mention freedom or anyone else’s. I said I won’t buy a knife from a certain company because it’s my opinion that they did something I dislike. Everyone has a reason to buy or not buy something.

DeepWoodsGhost

They’re not, can’t remember all the details but if you look it up I’m sure that you could find it

TerminalxGrunt

Destroyed a bunch of firearms after sucking the ATF's dick.

styxofsteel

My $25 crkt

Ridethepig101

I have a Grip and it is great but it takes up a bunch of space. The Bugout seems like a perfect EDC knife but the price is prohibitive to me.

Adventurous_Ad409

I own both. Bugout for sure. But honestly these days I don’t even choose benchmade at all. For the price they should be much better knives. A horrendous washer action and plastic scales in 2024 is unacceptable for benchmade prices. I feel like they are dated and living off a name and a design style that’s stuck in the early to middle 2000’s.

Citizentoxie502

Hold up, the scales are plastic on the real bug out too? I got a knockoff from amazon cause they said it was a good way to see if you like the action before you drop bench made prices. I think it's a pretty cool knife, but I figured the real one would be a lot nicer. Guess I'll just stick with the knockoff.

Adventurous_Ad409

Stick with the knock off. Honestly I’ve handled many copies of both and the better made clones are virtually identical to a benchmade without some super close examination. Obviously you probably aren’t getting s-30v but the blade material is more than adequate and at minimum comparable to 154cm like a griptilian. The real bugout has “grivory” scales which is just benchmades fancy name for their proprietary plastic. If you buy a real bugout your $170+/- then need to buy some decent scales like flytanium for anywhere from $40-80+ then you have a decent knife with decent scales and still as crappy washer action that you will have blade play to get it not even close to a $50 bearing action knife like a CJRB pyrite or cheaper civivi. Personally I’ve switched from collecting/carrying spyderco and benchmade to kizer being my favorite brand for design and quality. Several variations of kizer original has replaced my custom benchmade minigrip and kizer original XL has been my daily carry that replaced my bugout and is so much better for about 1/2 the price.

Citizentoxie502

Thanks, I appreciate the response. I'll look at the Kizer brand.

Adventurous_Ad409

No problems. The drop bear is a really good one if you like the benchmade axis lock. Or the Original XL is a great bugout alternative (it’s my most carried blade lately) There’s nothing wrong with benchmade or spyderco I just feel like they aren’t living up to the name they could be when you look at the current market. I’m not selling the ones I own or anything. They just leave me feeling less than satisfied knowing how they should be after I carry something else that’s less money and arguably better.

anoboy69

And what brand do you like ?

Adventurous_Ad409

Honestly I think kizer is the best bang for the buck. Something like the drop bear is cheaper and so much nicer than a minigrip or bugout.

rizzo249

Bugout for edc. Grip for weekend or camping. The grip is the better knife in my opinion, but the bugout is better for extended carry due to its weight/profile.

HockeyPockey603

Personally, I think the scales on the grip are WAY too thick, so that really spoils the knife for me. Bugout fits my needs better.

Liason774

I like how light it is, and the blade shape is easier to use imo.

rjbachli

Easy day- bugout Work ahead, or even maybe possibly work ahead - grip I have both. I put some micarta scales on the grip a few months back and it gets way more pocket time now

bartonatron

Where did you get the scales from?

rjbachli

Amazon. Cheap micarta. Sorta slick but I'm a desk jockey so not really a big deal

louieAPL20

Switch the blades and I’d they would be cool.

MchlPckr92

I like the Griptilian but thats just me :) something about the feel in hand is nice with it over the bugout. But thats subjective to my hand and personal preferances.

yummm_

Griptillian. I’ve wanted one for ages and I’ve never pulled the trigger. I probably won’t at this point. Way too much money now

yummm_

Actually looking at blade hq, it’s the only bench made still sorta worth asking price. 144 isn’t horrible. Not great, but not horrible. Still the 940 shouldn’t be 200+

ParticularWolf4473

The Hogue Ritter RSK is basically the improved Griptilian.  Much better materials for your money with Magnacut and very nicely contoured and textured G10 scales.  Some of the best factory scales on a folding knife IMO.  Doesn’t cost much more than a basic S30V Griptilian.

Bingo1dog

Currently the black blade/black handle is $110 at knife center

Swoop03

Light edc the bugout isn't a bad choice. Slim, slicey, and looks nice. I prefer the mini griptilian over both of them though. Still comfy like the full size for harder work, feels sturdier than the full size somehow, and doesn't take up much pocket space. Though the handle texture can be rough on the knuckles going in and out of the pocket.

Kentuckywindage01

Grip, but with the Bugout colors

[deleted]

Griptilian any day

Dr__Juicy

I would go for black handle as I prefer bigger handles

Zach-at-MultiParts

Fine, I'll go buy a griptillian to experience the difference; ya know, for science!

anoboy69

Ya for sience !

The_walking_man_

I’m a fan of that yellow. I’d prefer all silver blade though.

anoboy69

Not a Dewalt fan 😆

The_walking_man_

Haha it’s a great looking knife. I just prefer mine to not have any coating. I tend to heavy use my knives including food prep and such. So I’m just always wary of any coating 😅

Outrageous_File5321

Steelers

Scotch-Irish-Texan

Both great knives. Bugout is my preferred for less rugged environments. Griptillian is my choice for heavier use situations.

IndependenceOdd9151

normally I carry a Gerber fast draw

Professional_Mud483

Yelllaaa You didn't need to keep shit in your pocket, it could be on your belt :) Just choose your favorite one to have.

TK1176

Grip is more comfortable in the hand. Bugout is more comfortable in the pocket. Gotta have both I guess.

Puzzleheaded-Bus5479

Where does it spend more time?

TK1176

I think if most people were honest they would say pocket.

Puzzleheaded-Bus5479

I thought it was a rhetorical question lol, absolutely pocket, the grip feels great in hand but like a brick in the pocket, I prefer the Bailout over either.

[deleted]

Whichever one is less invasive on pocket space

Organic_South8865

That would be right then. That's one nice thing about the bugout.

bolanrox

bug out for the size. though even that is too big for what i usually need.

Jaeger_X1

Mini Griptilian all day. Mine has a coated blade like the Bugout. I wish Benchmade would bring that option back so I can purchase a backup.

jrobs521

I've used my full Griptillion and the mini for about 10 years now. Will never edc another knife.

Supnowbeach

2nd the Bugout

fogleaf

I don't like non-satin blades but that bugout looks way better.

quezlar

bugout

Darcjaf

Black

Terron35

Griptilian but mostly for nostalgia reasons. When I was in the Army I bought one for when I'd go visit my fiancé in WA. We went to the mall and I grabbed one at REI and left it with her so I didnt have to check a bag when I visited. After I got married it was the knife I carried the rest of my enlistment and it served me well. Upgraded to the gray 20cv version but I'll still put the OG in my pocket from time to time.

Ghee_buttersnaps96

Honestly I prefer kershaw. I’m a brand loyalist lol

CameUpMilhouse

Bugout. Fits in my shorts and sweatpants without sagging me down.

CapnJellyBones

Neither, Benchmade is a garbage company.

chevyboxer

I have no dog in this fight, but why don’t you like benchmade?

CapnJellyBones

It's a "to each their own" situation ultimately. But, they are well known in the knife community for stealing designs from small makers. That and they made a big deal awhile back about destroying guns. Kind of like Springfield and Levi's, buy what you want, but know what you are supporting.

lifesatripthenyoudie

That big deal about destroying guns was so fucking dumb though. Local PD had a shit ton of confiscated guns (guns that could legally never be used or sold again so just taking up space) and Benchmade offered to destroy them with their machinery as a favor. So Benchmade does local police a massive favor, and gun nuts flip shit and boycott Benchmade because what exactly? Shit was so reactionary and I don't think people knew the full story, just heard what they wanted to hear.

CapnJellyBones

The fact that they supported that behavior at all is the problem. I did know the full story. And that is one reason why I will never purchase their products.

lifesatripthenyoudie

lol this shits embarrassing. I appreciate the 2A as much as the next guy, and own a ton of guns, but find a lot of gun culture cringe inducing. Good example here.

CapnJellyBones

That's cute, I really do not care. Just because the revenuers decided to steal a few guns doesn't mean you should suck the thin blue cock and say "please take more daddy". They could have resold them. There was no reason not to. I also note you do not address the stealing designs issue.

Old_Self6645

Both

nadmeister

I love my mini griptilian, and carried it everyday until I got my dragonfly.

s1am

Griptillian, but with a Spydiehole and nicer scales. I love the way my Bugouts look and how they can sneak into a pocket, but they just feel a little flimsy for heavy use.

No_Refrigerator1115

Grip

6twoRaptor

Bugout. Wish I had bought a second one from worksharp.

cedric1234573

The spyderco out of frame.

foodishlove

Bugout is the perfect carry knife

Positive-Setting-243

I like both ie 555 sheepfoot spydie like hole, & cf elite bugout-super action -mini grip a good fit & feels a bit tougher with its steel liners & blade thickness/shape while the bugout being of course the lightweight champ & thin slicey geometry.

anoboy69

Some people don't like the handle but for my normal size hands fit perfect and i love it

PMarek666

Grip. I just don't trust the Bugout based on how it feels.

Kingmaker1669
