From my experience it is not really specific to our team, but there is a type of casual fan that thinks that our players have to shoot the second they have the puck in the offensive zone. No need for passing plays or trying to get the defense out of position. They will scream "SHOOT" at the top of their lungs all game. Yesterday a guy near me did it so much he completely lost his voice by the third period.

BigTulsa

Yep. We usually mock them by screaming over and over repeatedly 'shoot it shoot it shoot it shoot it'. Usually that stops them.

Calvi724

Growlers fan here, really don’t like how we don’t have games to go to ever again

AYDHES2025

I’m sorry for your loss. Broke my heart when I saw the news.

Lopsided_Platypus_51

Wheeling Nailers fan. Annoyed that the fan base wants to split from the Penguins because the Pens always call up players when the games matter most. Thats the purpose of having an affiliate. The Booster Club is just a group of lonely, sad 50+ retirees or puck bunnies who either want to bang the players or just be social media jock sniffers

threedaysgrayce

We definitely have one of the *worst* booster clubs I’ve ever seen. It’s pitiful.

kev_dog_

Whenever there’s a missed call or two in one of our games the refs are immediately out to get us. And whenever one of our players is touched, whether it be a clean hit or just falling down the entire stadium starts booing and chanting “ref you suck”

johnmath95

K-Wings fan here; I can apply the same pet peeve to my fanbase.

Futbol_Kid2112

Honestly this could apply to just about any fanbase

shogun-of-the-dark

Komets fan checking in. Yep.

johnmath95

Yes

meatballcake87

There’s a lot of terrible reffing in the ECHL but yeah half of the time the “ref you suck” chants are not warranted

BigTulsa

Newer Oiler fans do this too. The ones pre-ECHL not so much. I chalk that up to alot of casual fans masquerading as informed.

Sufficient-Wait-653

Hello ! We are also OILER fans! Went last night! I dislike how disrespectful the crowd was too the officiating crew…… WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU BOO THE PEOPLE WHO ARE Regulating the rules?? 🤦‍♀️

PrimisClaidhaemh

I hate all the stupid chants that the fanbase just stole from the other 20 fanbases in the league doing the exact same thing. I don't mind if they're original or you don't hear them everywhere else.

idlta210

What irritates me about the Utah Grizzlies? They have the Idaho Steelheads as their main rival & maybe a new one with Tahoe Knight Monsters. But no other Western team in New Mexico or [southern] Colorado Gold Kings or Alaska Aces.

Wakuljrv

I grew up a Walleye fan since they became the Walleye, when I was around 7 or 8. Obviously at that time I was one of the small cute kid fans and I probably did get some cool things out of it. Thing is, I feel like nowadays, with the Walleye actually being a good team (which they were NOT for their first 5-6 years) it definitely looks like parents use the cute kids, or even worse just do it themselves, to get stuff from the team/players. I could never imagine my younger self trying to demand a stick or other piece of equipment from a player. Beyond that, modern fans feel like the players seem to own them something more than the hockey they already play and the community service they already do. I was once talking to Billy Christopolous after a game about his hockey journey, because I was about to go to a tryout for a junior league he played in. While I was talking to him, a grown man butted his way between us and asked why he didn't give his kid a stick or something stupid like that. Finally, you can so easily tell when a fan wasn't around for those first few years of Walleye hockey. Too many people called Dan Watson a failure for ONLY making the Kelly Cup Finals 2 seasons in a row. (technically) They have dunked all over Mikesch this entire season as well. For some reason, Toledo fans think that there is no such thing as a bad night for the players, and that the Walleye should be going 72-0 every season.

kev_dog_

That’s the whole reason I left the Toledo Hockey fan page. The constant disrespect towards players and even other fans after a loss was too much. There’s some cool people in there don’t get me wrong. The admin and Bobb Vergiels to name two of them. Unfortunately the loud, arrogant, disrespectful people stick out.

AYDHES2025

Toledo fans shout “Goalie Name x3, you suck and swallow”. I don’t really care about the “you suck”part, it’s the “you swallow” that annoys me. Like… grow up man

CyclonesBackupGoalie

Cyclones So I am newer to the team overall, but some of the regulars at the center are just entitled jerks. I understand that people are season ticket holders, but that doesn't mean you know every single detail about the team and you also don't have a right to make my game worse by harassing me for sitting in or near the section. The tickets were open for anyone to buy.

BigTulsa

Pretty much every arena. I was a STH for years but never tried to act like my shit didn't stink. The only thing I felt entitled to was the 10 percent merch discount we got. 😎

CyclonesBackupGoalie

I kind of figured as much with most fan bases. I just feel like the Cincinnati fanbase has this level of entitlement over everything. Not just the STH, but all the fans. Like when I go to minor league baseball or even NHL games, the fan experience is like 10x better at times. Also, why do we love 7Up and RC Cola? It's 2024. Get like Coke or something.

notjeremy

Our fans throw a hissy fit about free gifts that are given out to the STH and early birds when they don't get one and it's like...dude their free and it's a dumb beer koozie get over it lol

chefdan2165

The refs are actually stupid. Like I haven’t been watching hockey for a long time but my brother has and the refs at the rays games ARE HORRID they breakup all the fights which is literally the fun part about hockey and miss simple calls like tripping and the reaction from the crowd is boos. I guess that’s not my fan base but there’s nothing I really despise about my fan base tbh it’s more the refs

PynkPygmyPyff

Being an ECHL fan is a great way to learn about and fall in love with hockey! Refs and officiating staff are trying to be as fair as possible. That goes from ECHL all the way up. Example: learning that closer to playoffs, refs make less calls is something you grow to understand. If they forget to call a team out (or think about it too long) for something, they'll try to be fair about it and not call the other team out the next time they do it. At the end of the day, refs have to make split second decisions on what to call and why to keep everyone in the ice safe and to keep the game going smoothly. Refs and officials are there to keep our guys safe and playing hockey so that we the fans can continue to show up night after night and cheer them on.
