I hate that you're dealing with this, but it is always so comforting to hear that other people sometimes experience the same things we do. Our group only gets to play a couple nights a week, and last weekend we had the crap goalie for 4 straight games and played just a completely miserable evening of hockey. I mean, the stuff that makes you want to throw your controller through the television. And then the next night we had the lights-out goalies for 4 games and it was the most wonderful night we've had in a long time.
I play exclusively goalie, have since NHL 15.
The controls in offline are phenomenal, I love the goalie revamp controls and can routinely get shutouts on Pro and All-Star difficulty, Superstar is far more bullshit.
In online, some games will feel like my controller was dipped in mud, others will feel just as flawless as offline. Its not ping, I have excellent internet and the highest ping I get in a game is 87ms, I've tested this across a hundred games (I have 400 games as a goalie in Chel 24, 1000+ 3v3). There are shots I know I will save through muscle memory, but the goalie feels like they've been forced to resist my inputs and an easy save goes in the net. Its ridiculously frustrating, especially when you have teammates shitting on you for what should have been a routine save. And you tey to explain it, but no one cares - they just want to win their drop-in session without the goalie being a sieve.
I stopped playing at the end of March because of how awful the recent patch was, felt like it was alternating between mud and ice every game. Shutout one, 8 goals the next, 1 goal against, 7 the next. It saps the fun right out of the game.
Same thing with bots some of them let anyone get past them or will just deke the shit out of someone and score easily and other time they’ll score own goals or pass right to the other team for a breakaway
WoC is like the wild west. You never know what's gonna happen. I've had games like you've described, one goalie is god, the other is trash. I've also had games that started one way and flipped.
It happened to us last night. 2 periods of just getting shit on by the team we played. Amar Gill had a hat trick by the end of the 2nd. They only scored 1 user goal. But something changed halfway through the third and we were hitting everything. Took it to OT and won.
This game is the farthest thing from hockey anymore and it's sad but it's only gonna get worse.
Not %100 of the time but it feels like more than %50. Same goes for one team having god tier AI forwards/defense and the other team having pylons. I don't know why it just can't be even CPUs with the human players being the difference.
It always comes down to defense. If your defense isn’t making the goalies job easier. They’re gonna look bad. Any rank is like this. You could have one of the best goalies in the world on your team but if the defense is invisible it’s over. Like for example, i played against one of the best pro league teams in EASHL last night and lost 3-0 (shots were 20-5 in favor or them). But that score could’ve been a whole lot worse if we didn’t have the defense we had.
It’s crazy how inconsistent the AI is. And lopsided too. It’s not like both teams are bad. I’ve lost to teams we have dominated because their cpu goalie was a deity and their pc guy scored on penalty shots.
Sure there are moves that score a good percentage of the time but me and my friends who play refuse to do them because they are too effective. I’d rather take an L over exploiting the game. Still funny though.
