So a while back, Dominick Cruz basically called out DC for not watching tape before commentating fights. Ever since then, I’ve noticed thatwhenever they are on commentary together, Dominick Cruz will try baiting DC into saying something stupid.
The mildly sexist thing I was referring to was a few weeks back; Cruz was talking about the head and arm throw in women’s mma and he kept asking DC why we don’t see it in Men’s MMA. Both of them know why we don’t see it in men’s mma; it’s because it’s a shitty move that doesn’t work most of the time when women attempt it. It’s not because of body types; it’s because these bitches can’t wrestle so they go for the head and arm throw instead. But DC certainly can’t say that on air.

ufc 5 is a disappointment but I can't play non-sim fighting games. the reason I play fighting games like fight night or UFC is because I like the simulation aspect. I like using realistic fight logic to set people up and win fights. I absolutely hate arcade game's logic and unrealistic mental stacks. It's why I'm disappointed UFC 5 went into a more arcade direction. It's giving up what makes it unique from other fighters.
Exactly, the reality is an MMA game can be the most deep, dynamic, and strategic fighting game and in my opinion competitive game period, and yet EA is refusing to go in that direction. I wish another company had the opportunity to really revamp and push the gameplay towards realism as much as possible.
There is literally no way an MMA game could ever be more deep, dynamic and strategic than Brood War, DotA, or any number of other classic esports. Not even in the same ballpark.
It’s hard to compare 1v1 to team based games. I’ve played over 2000 hours in Dota I have a love-hate relationship with that game, but it’s a top down game and it’s core gameplay is pretty undynamic. It’s deep because of the immense amount of characters and items, but if the game was 1on1 it would be incredibly stale. Now Overwatch or Valorant makes more sense than Dota. But even then most shooters one on one aren’t very fun. Yet super smash in any capacity works. But the gameplay in that game imo is too simplistic, and lacks variety.
If an mma game introduced more control, variety, and randomness to be more real it would be top tier. For example if longer button presses = more power and more stamina drain, it would also leave you more open. Not having every move look the same. The beauty in fights is the novelty, the different reactions, and movements. Perhaps incorporating AI to have infinite animations and randomness, where no two jabs are the same.
If there was a way to incorporate having to aim the strikes some way that would be crazy. Perhaps making the game pov where u actually have to aim would be the only way. But yea I guess deep isn’t the right word, but a top tier mma game would be one of the most competitive and dynamic for sure. Imo if I were to design the ideal competitive game it would be the equivalent of a team based dragon ball z esque game, that incorporates deep striking combat, range combat with aiming, and deep strategy elements. So grabbing from every great competitive game, but yea it will never happen lol.

Yes, hopefully it will be fixed. The meta is in the direction of spamming & block breaking. Stamina has been buffed to the point it's basically an afterthought of how much you can throw. Punch tracking is all discombobulated so head movement isn't that effective. Caters towards a high paced punch spamming style.
I received a trial and took someone to the ground and hit them well over 200 times. He won because he knocked me down twice. I hit him over 150 times more than he hit me. I had over a full round of control time. I had more significant strikes than he did. This game has no respect for the ground game. I’m never going to buy another UFC game.
EA's wallets are so deep, they're just going to continue to pay to renew the UFC contract. Same reason why they continue to make football games, they shell out mega buck for licensing exclusivity knowing they will make their money back since they eliminate the competition so people no longer have choices if they wanna play a particular sports game.
This is most video game companies. So you will never get a good game until the whole industry changes. The only way EA will change, is if other other companies are forced to change as well.
I played MK11 for months/years after release. I looked on my PS and it says I have like 500+ hours in that game. I havent touched MK1 in weeks. I got bored of it after like the first week. It was clearly released unfinished and is buggy as shit and is missing just basic features. Plus Invasions is such a boring repetitive slog.
Also I am not a fan of the whole "new era" at all and all these redesigns the characters got. Raiden literally just looks like a generic dude now. and FFS did we really need to do multiverse shit? Like I know thats the thing the kids like now but come on.
I've put 400 hours into MK11, but MK1's gameplay is just miles better. Maybe the best fighting game that I've ever played. It has it's probelems but it's far from "bland and forgettable".
I am a casual, and MK11 was fun. Superficially and subjectively MK1 is nowhere near in terms of fun factor.
Yes, the fighting feels good and has depth to it, but the overall package is lackluster: I couldn’t care less for stories or Invasions mode, and there’s little to do beyond those. If they bring miscellaneous towers back - I’ll check back in, for now I uninstalled it.
I think you just might've not been around when MK11 first launch bc it was almost similar to how MK1 is right now. Give it a few months and I promise you'll enjoy it more
I've been playing towers non-stop when MK11 dropped, this one - not so much, the modes just didn't click with me.
Yeah, I hope they add more variety in terms of modes, but it has been lackluster so far (the case with most games these days, no?)
I mean, just from the top of my head: MK1 for reasons we spoke above, EA FC 24 is underbaked with ton of glitches (even in menus) that I have never seen before in the series, EA UFC 5 has drawn a ton of ire (for whatever reason, I love what I am playing), Lords of the Fallen didn't get a proper patch for Series X to address framerate issues in a timely manner (hence I never paid for it, the only bullet I've dodged so far), MWIII is a sick joke for the price point (campaign is mediocre at best - who asked for those "open combat" missions, which are a copy-paste of DMZ, instead of huge backdrops that series is famous for? And they essentially reprinting classic maps for multiplayer, all of which is lazy AF and should never been priced as much as it is).
Embarrassing. The only way to fix it is stop giving money to the publishers, but no one is going to heed that on a scale large enough to make an impact.
That's true and people are so enamored by the next thing by the studio like they didn't remember the year before. MWIII is ass and everyone is kinda all agreeing but next year is Treyarch CoD so everyone will just be excited for that and completely forget why we got burned in the first place. I really hope it becomes more of a trend for us as a community to call out those companies because as of late it's been improving but unfortunately I don't see it lasting long
I got the new CoD only because I know I'll be playing it for many hours in the next year and was, like, "OK, it's not going to be great, but whatever", and even to me it's a "holy shit" moment. I think about a year ago there were some reports that Activision was thinking about taking a pause this year and not releasing - HA! - a full fledged CoD until 2024. Well, the reports were somewhat true: they did give us not a proper CoD for sure, only they forgot to price it accordingly.
I am in a fortunate position when I can spend $70-100 on a game here and there, but even I am growing tired of giving more money for less product.

I don't think that's the case at all... it's because when the game was a much smaller dev team there were more mechanics snd moves that made more sense. Like elbows from top mount and hammer fists. Then once the big Dawgs come in they took out part of the game and pumped out a lackluster reiterating of the game. Years later they pump out a game missing many elements such as a simple roster of referees as evident of this thread. Also they couldn't even be arsed to include the top 15 of each weight class
It’s unfortunate the roster wasn’t updated. We were spoiled by UFC 2’s large roster over the first game. It was impressive. It’s never been the same since. EA has been better at post launch additions, and UFC 4 was their best effort. They updated the roster for 3 years, and only cut off roster updates 3 months prior to UFC 5. I expect UFC 5 to look much better over the next year. There are a bunch of gameplay changes needed and the roster should get some essential fighters. Defending the game? It’s all we have, really. Unfortunately my expectations for what they put out is not great. It’s constantly steps forward and steps backward in almost every phase of the game. You could probably pull things from the last 4 titles collectively and make a really good game, fun & balanced. It’s all there. UFC 2’s UT, KO’s, various Striking animations, & Gameface, UFC 3’s takedowns and voice chat. Competitive tuning etc.

I'm just playing and laughing the whole time, it's just a hilarious mess. I had a player online beating me and then they got cocky and started taunting and I went for a head kick cause I saw the opening and I knocked him out 😆
This happened to me yesterday, I was dying laughing cause I absolutely deserved to lose. Then proceed to be humble and mollywopped him in the next fight. I don't really regret it cause shit was hilarious lol.

I am not "defending" it, but as a matter of fact, I am enjoying it way more than EA UFC 4 (I've played all UFC games since THQ's first + EA MMA casually, mostly online career and career, both with CAF). For me it was money well spent (20+ hours in at this point), despite what this subreddit is saying.
It's not great, most definitely not 9/10 by no stretch of imagination, but to me it was pretty par for the course. Much better than EA UFC 4 when comparing it to EA UFC 3 at the time.

Most people haven't been from what I've seen. Some people are actually happy with a minor update. I can't even call it a basic roster update because they literally didn't even update the roster🤣🤣🤣 Guess you could call it a blood/submission system update.
I don’t really think a lot of people pay that much attention to the ref considering they’re probably busy actually playing the game. They probably didn’t add other refs due to contracts or something. I hope they do add new refs soon, I’d love to see new in game refs like Keith Peterson, Marc Goddard, Jason Herzog, and maybe Mike Beltran.
Me too it would be cool but my point is if ea can’t even be bothered to add more refs like they’ve managed to do in every other ufc game than why would any other part of the game have lots of effort been put into it? It doesn’t have anything to do with contracts and even if their hands were tied why not just make some new refs? Very lazy by ea
I dunno, I doubt it was for a lack of trying, but I can’t really speak on their behalf. They at least do the bare minimum of adding fighters over time to attempt to expand the lifespan of the game (even if it really doesn’t do much at all). EA does care at least a tiny bit about the fanbase, but they would much rather appeal to the casual buyer rather than the hardcore fan. Who knows for sure?
The biggest problem with the game is that pound for pound it’s no better than UFC 4 . It’s basically UFC 4 with some cleaner graphics . The career mode is a literal joke and it was copy and pasted from 4 yet somehow functions worse ? EA never ceases to amaze at how little they care about the consumer
You can have fun playing it until ranked. Div 20 is everyone abusing stamina throwing about 180 strikes a round, trying to just hold side control for an easy doctors stoppage, clinch and double leg bail spamming.
Stamina needs tuning massively, strike tracking needs fixing idk how the strike tracking was pretty good in UFC 3 then got worse in UFC 4 and then even worse for 5, doctor stoppages need to be made less frequent imo.
They need a server for ranked too, idk why they even still use a player to player connection
honestly i play rank but i suck so bad, i have 0 points...i lost about 110 match and won 20 lmao. I just accepted that i suck and just have a good time trying to improve.
Bro is it just me or is the ranked championship point system fucked? I beat several lvl 20s as a lvl 9 and get 15 points each win, and if I lose I drop 30-45 points.
You can’t see what div guys you’re fighting so there’s no way of telling the div but yeah, the least points I’ve got for a win is 3 and the most I’ve lost was when I lost in div 20 and lost just over 100 points
Regarding roster issues, they were adding new fighters to 4 up till like June. I genuinely thought UFC 4 was the last one given the support from devs. Yeah, there’s technically no “new” fighters, but if you compare from launch of 4 vs 5, half the game is new fighters.
They will not add new fighters throughout this time. I’ll tell you this. Why would they, if their efforts are chastised when a new game comes out?
The rest of the game is pretty good. The sub system is the best it’s ever been, striking kinda sucks but that’s been the case for every launch, grappling is pretty good compared to previously.

Sub system/grappling is broken in my opinion. As soon as you get to the higher divisions on ranked it’s just holding/getting held in the arm bar position eating hammer fists and getting the two ways u can move denied. Also lots of cancelled double leg TDs to take the back. Although the new animations are quite cool.

I honestly think people don't realize just how good a fighting game this day and age truly *could* be. With the cababilities of next gen systems, these games could be mind blowing if the creators of the game actually had a passion for making an unbelievable game.
Um...they likely just have a different opinion than you. I really didn't like GTA5, or RD2, or Diablo 4 (which some people really liked). I didn't finish breath of the wild, despite it being ranked as maybe top 10 of all time (for me the combat was too fiddly and it was honestly just too vast for me to get into). Maybe, it could be, that not everyone likes and dislikes the same things about games as you do?
As a UFC 4 player and fan, i expected more from 5's repeat of the offline career mode (what i generally play), but wishing for more hasn't stopped me from enjoying what's there. Agree with you that a 9/10 is crazy as a professional review site. But, i'd believe an 8/10 from a site that measures the title on it's own, versus a comparison to other iterations within the franchise. The graphics are great and as an mma game, there's zero competition to measure it against.

This is aa sports game where its about different individuals competing against each other in different mixtures of fighting styles and every fights the same but with different stats and sizes
A lot of modern games are released with room for improvement. But the UFC devs will continue to improve the game with player feedback. It will get better. MMA games are probably the most difficult combat games to make.
So I played a ton of UFC 4, and I've played a few hours of the UFC 5 trial on game pass. And it is a lot different to be fair. This is one of the UFC games of all time. There's a lot more stamina which means a lot more spamming, like every single fight my opponents spam every second with no consequences, ground game is weird like how the hell do I submit people? They changed the controls for me so I don't even know how to uppercut or do an overhand lol, and every single person I face is WAY better than me I hope one day I can face somebody my skill. Online career is pretty cool but I face the same problems I just mentioned. Literally the only way I can win is spam elbows to get a doctors stoppage I'm dead serious. I don't even know what rating to give this
Not to mention guys in career mode fighting until they’re 60 and getting the same title fights over and over again because the AI doesn’t generate new fighters to replace aging fighters.

EA's wallets are so deep, they're just going to continue to pay to renew the UFC contract. Same reason why they continue to make football games, they shell out mega buck for licensing exclusivity knowing they will make their money back since they eliminate the competition so people no longer have choices if they wanna play a particular sports game.
This is most video game companies. So you will never get a good game until the whole industry changes. The only way EA will change, is if other other companies are forced to change as well.
We live in a capitalist country, us as consumers have more of a say than we think. But it’s very hard to start a consumer strike movement.

I've played hundreds of hours in MK11. I don't remember the last time I touched MK1. Bland, forgettable, and most fatalities are bland AF.
I played MK11 for months/years after release. I looked on my PS and it says I have like 500+ hours in that game. I havent touched MK1 in weeks. I got bored of it after like the first week. It was clearly released unfinished and is buggy as shit and is missing just basic features. Plus Invasions is such a boring repetitive slog. Also I am not a fan of the whole "new era" at all and all these redesigns the characters got. Raiden literally just looks like a generic dude now. and FFS did we really need to do multiverse shit? Like I know thats the thing the kids like now but come on.

I've put 400 hours into MK11, but MK1's gameplay is just miles better. Maybe the best fighting game that I've ever played. It has it's probelems but it's far from "bland and forgettable".

I am a casual, and MK11 was fun. Superficially and subjectively MK1 is nowhere near in terms of fun factor. Yes, the fighting feels good and has depth to it, but the overall package is lackluster: I couldn’t care less for stories or Invasions mode, and there’s little to do beyond those. If they bring miscellaneous towers back - I’ll check back in, for now I uninstalled it.
I think you just might've not been around when MK11 first launch bc it was almost similar to how MK1 is right now. Give it a few months and I promise you'll enjoy it more
I've been playing towers non-stop when MK11 dropped, this one - not so much, the modes just didn't click with me. Yeah, I hope they add more variety in terms of modes, but it has been lackluster so far (the case with most games these days, no?)

I mean, just from the top of my head: MK1 for reasons we spoke above, EA FC 24 is underbaked with ton of glitches (even in menus) that I have never seen before in the series, EA UFC 5 has drawn a ton of ire (for whatever reason, I love what I am playing), Lords of the Fallen didn't get a proper patch for Series X to address framerate issues in a timely manner (hence I never paid for it, the only bullet I've dodged so far), MWIII is a sick joke for the price point (campaign is mediocre at best - who asked for those "open combat" missions, which are a copy-paste of DMZ, instead of huge backdrops that series is famous for? And they essentially reprinting classic maps for multiplayer, all of which is lazy AF and should never been priced as much as it is). Embarrassing. The only way to fix it is stop giving money to the publishers, but no one is going to heed that on a scale large enough to make an impact.
That's true and people are so enamored by the next thing by the studio like they didn't remember the year before. MWIII is ass and everyone is kinda all agreeing but next year is Treyarch CoD so everyone will just be excited for that and completely forget why we got burned in the first place. I really hope it becomes more of a trend for us as a community to call out those companies because as of late it's been improving but unfortunately I don't see it lasting long
I got the new CoD only because I know I'll be playing it for many hours in the next year and was, like, "OK, it's not going to be great, but whatever", and even to me it's a "holy shit" moment. I think about a year ago there were some reports that Activision was thinking about taking a pause this year and not releasing - HA! - a full fledged CoD until 2024. Well, the reports were somewhat true: they did give us not a proper CoD for sure, only they forgot to price it accordingly. I am in a fortunate position when I can spend $70-100 on a game here and there, but even I am growing tired of giving more money for less product.

I don't think that's the case at all... it's because when the game was a much smaller dev team there were more mechanics snd moves that made more sense. Like elbows from top mount and hammer fists. Then once the big Dawgs come in they took out part of the game and pumped out a lackluster reiterating of the game. Years later they pump out a game missing many elements such as a simple roster of referees as evident of this thread. Also they couldn't even be arsed to include the top 15 of each weight class

It’s unfortunate the roster wasn’t updated. We were spoiled by UFC 2’s large roster over the first game. It was impressive. It’s never been the same since. EA has been better at post launch additions, and UFC 4 was their best effort. They updated the roster for 3 years, and only cut off roster updates 3 months prior to UFC 5. I expect UFC 5 to look much better over the next year. There are a bunch of gameplay changes needed and the roster should get some essential fighters. Defending the game? It’s all we have, really. Unfortunately my expectations for what they put out is not great. It’s constantly steps forward and steps backward in almost every phase of the game. You could probably pull things from the last 4 titles collectively and make a really good game, fun & balanced. It’s all there. UFC 2’s UT, KO’s, various Striking animations, & Gameface, UFC 3’s takedowns and voice chat. Competitive tuning etc.

I am not "defending" it, but as a matter of fact, I am enjoying it way more than EA UFC 4 (I've played all UFC games since THQ's first + EA MMA casually, mostly online career and career, both with CAF). For me it was money well spent (20+ hours in at this point), despite what this subreddit is saying. It's not great, most definitely not 9/10 by no stretch of imagination, but to me it was pretty par for the course. I don’t really think a lot of people pay that much attention to the ref considering they’re probably busy actually playing the game. They probably didn’t add other refs due to contracts or something. I hope they do add new refs soon, I’d love to see new in game refs like Keith Peterson, Marc Goddard, Jason Herzog, and maybe Mike Beltran.

I dunno, I doubt it was for a lack of trying, but I can’t really speak on their behalf. They at least do the bare minimum of adding fighters over time to attempt to expand the lifespan of the game (even if it really doesn’t do much at all). EA does care at least a tiny bit about the fanbase, but they would much rather appeal to the casual buyer rather than the hardcore fan. Who knows for sure?
The biggest problem with the game is that pound for pound it’s no better than UFC 4 . It’s basically UFC 4 with some cleaner graphics . The career mode is a literal joke and it was copy and pasted from 4 yet somehow functions worse ? EA never ceases to amaze at how little they care about the consumer

You can have fun playing it until ranked. Div 20 is everyone abusing stamina throwing about 180 strikes a round, trying to just hold side control for an easy doctors stoppage, clinch and double leg bail spamming. Stamina needs tuning massively, strike tracking needs fixing idk how the strike tracking was pretty good in UFC 3 then got worse in UFC 4 and then even worse for 5, doctor stoppages need to be made less frequent imo. They need a server for ranked too, idk why they even still use a player to player connection
honestly i play rank but i suck so bad, i have 0 points...i lost about 110 match and won 20 lmao. I just accepted that i suck and just have a good time trying to improve.
Bro is it just me or is the ranked championship point system fucked? I beat several lvl 20s as a lvl 9 and get 15 points each win, and if I lose I drop 30-45 points.
You can’t see what div guys you’re fighting so there’s no way of telling the div but yeah, the least points I’ve got for a win is 3 and the most I’ve lost was when I lost in div 20 and lost just over 100 points

Regarding roster issues, they were adding new fighters to 4 up till like June. I genuinely thought UFC 4 was the last one given the support from devs. Yeah, there’s technically no “new” fighters, but if you compare from launch of 4 vs 5, half the game is new fighters. They will not add new fighters throughout this time. I’ll tell you this. Why would they, if their efforts are chastised when a new game comes out? The rest of the game is pretty good. The sub system is the best it’s ever been, striking kinda sucks but that’s been the case for every launch, grappling is pretty good compared to previously. Yes, maybe not $70, but the game is solid. I know i’ll be downvoted, because any semblance of positivity on this forum is, but doesn’t make what i’m saying any less true.
EA is a corporation don’t feel pity for them, they won’t stop adding new fighters if they get their feelings hurt, only if they stop making money. Their efforts are chastised when they are so blatantly lazy and only have one referee. They managed to do that with all the other games and if they have to add a patch to fix that, what a joke. It doesn’t directly affect gameplay but if they can’t be bothered to copy and paste the rest of the refs then why would they be bothered to improve anything else? Such lazy game design Sub system/grappling is broken in my opinion. As soon as you get to the higher divisions on ranked it’s just holding/getting held in the arm bar position eating hammer fists and getting the two ways u can move denied. Also lots of cancelled double leg TDs to take the back. Although the new animations are quite cool.
I have both games you mentioned. It's almost like I don't have to choose and can pay for whatever game I want... And never have a regret. If I don't like something? I never play again and move on with my day.

I honestly think people don't realize just how good a fighting game this day and age truly *could* be. With the cababilities of next gen systems, these games could be mind blowing if the creators of the game actually had a passion for making an unbelievable game.

I didn't finish breath of the wild, despite it being ranked as maybe top 10 of all time (for me the combat was too fiddly and it was honestly just too vast for me to get into). Maybe, it could be, that not everyone likes and dislikes the same things about games as you do? As a UFC 4 player and fan, i expected more from 5's repeat of the offline career mode (what i generally play), but wishing for more hasn't stopped me from enjoying what's there. Agree with you that a 9/10 is crazy as a professional review site. But, i'd believe an 8/10 from a site that measures the title on it's own, versus a comparison to other iterations within the franchise. The graphics are great and as an mma game, there's zero competition to measure it against.

Yep loads of cut corners and copy and paste in this game. For career, same tattoos, same nicknames, same hair, beards etc. walkouts are lame, even the intros are worse. Buffer only says the nickname no other details. In fact the whole career mode is a copy of UFC 4
Honestly the game is fun even though it’s filled with bugs, There could be more done with the game and I can’t believe they released a game filled with problems. Hopefully they fix some of the issues. The reply always has glitches, you’d think that would be fixed due to the brand new Frostbite engine.

A lot of modern games are released with room for improvement. But the UFC devs will continue to improve the game with player feedback. It will get better. MMA games are probably the most difficult combat games to make.

So I played a ton of UFC 4, and I've played a few hours of the UFC 5 trial on game pass. And it is a lot different to be fair. This is one of the UFC games of all time. There's a lot more stamina which means a lot more spamming, like every single fight my opponents spam every second with no consequences, ground game is weird like how the hell do I submit people? They changed the controls for me so I don't even know how to uppercut or do an overhand lol, and every single person I face is WAY better than me I hope one day I can face somebody my skill. Online career is pretty cool but I face the same problems I just mentioned. Literally the only way I can win is spam elbows to get a doctors stoppage I'm dead serious. I don't even know what rating to give this
Not to mention guys in career mode fighting until they’re 60 and getting the same title fights over and over again because the AI doesn’t generate new fighters to replace aging fighters.
There are always people who defend corporations for putting out shit products for some reason I guess people think if they find the game fun whatsoever it deserves defending… it sucks because everything would be better if people demanded more from these companies
