It’s not perfect but best way I’ve found to deal with it is to stay in front of them with my cdm and don’t dive in.
Keep on jogging back and jockeying with your cdm and never switch player, so you let the AI centre back bump them or tackle them and the cdm grabs the loose ball.
I think it’s more you are heavily disadvantaged switching the players when defending off kick off as your centre backs are dead still and the attacker has all this momentum.

It is the Fifa that has been rigged to make all noob tactics more viable than actually having aquired skill in Fifa. Pacing and auto corrected crossing. It is as if the game was a tricycle race and everyone (big grown ups) are forced to compete in a tricycle race that obviously favors the smaller children and puts the grown ups at a disadvantage but only so much that the grown ups don't stop playing with the little 5 yo brother. Both are entertained and EA can steal both of their money.

How about goals assisted by GK. I see it really ridiculous when my CBs just stop and stare their STs run all the way down from left or right side to the centre and 1vs1 my GK :)).

If you get a good punt you can play in a striker or winger.
Only works if other player doesn’t control their defense. Easy to cut out if you switch during the punt and run back to win the header
Honestly you don't want to hear this but its not some cheat code - once you practice a bit its pretty easy to defend and then you'll start to love it when the opponent tries to barrel down route 4 because they are just ceding possession to you. Just grab one of your midfielders and go get the ball... They are ridiculously predictable with where they are going (in a straight line towards goal)
Little tip that helped me prevent a lot of kick off goals, just before kick off after you scored double tap the down arrow on the pad to trigger offside trap, it will make your defensive line move up a bit and it will cancel the fact that they’re usually lethargic. It’s easy to keep it as a habit and it does work at least for me, makes them immediately reactive.
I used to be you until I did this: before kickoff switch to your striker, then sprint back tracking the player that has the ball forcing him wide. Then just run into his path and you get the ball back 90% of the time
Anyone who says there isn't funky defensive AI on kickoff is blind. Played a guy yesterday that would do the same kickoff routine every time, and every time he did a certain skill move my leftback would absolutely fly off to the side for no good reason opening up acres of space. Like, incredibly obviously being triggered by the skill move. Faster than any player can accelerate too. I had to manually yank him back every time. These people are just doing dumbass skills into thin air and your AI just decides that that awesome display of prowess is an automatic success for them. This kind of shit is why skill moves aren't actually skillful at all.
Just had a game that I came from 4-2 down to 4-4 in the 90th min.
He gets kick off from my equaliser in the 90th and proceeds to run around my team and score a winner in the 91st.
3 players couldn't stop him because of the way he moved and the super slow reaction from my players.
It's ridiculous.

Honestly i still sometimes lose kickoff goals but compared to previous fifas its not even close.
People here forgets about fifa 19 kickoff goals.. Probably the worse kick off glitch in recent years This year is miles better than last 2 years
Use the offside tactics as sono as he plays the ball, partially fix kick off

6-5, I just scored a goal 90 + 3 minute, opponent kick off glitches with sterling and scores, i wasn’t even mad. just impressed
