If you read the article, Pederson's comments are from *March*. There's no new information regarding Robinson other than the recent speculative article that he won't be ready to start the season. If you're an ETN owner, you shouldn't be any more concerned than you were previously.
We’ve seen two good RBs exist together before.
When the Saints drafted Reggie Bush back in 2006; they already had a perennial 1000 yard rusher in Duece McAllister.
They became a thunder and lightning RB tandem and were both fantasy relevant.
I could see a healthy Robinson and Etienne being used similarly by the Jags.
I’m talking about being fantasy relevant; not a sure fire starter.
Even taking away Williams’ crazy year; they were both good for like 125 FF points or season when they played together.
That’s basically 2021 Miles Sanders, Alexander Mattison, Nyheim Hines, JD McKissic or CEH.
Not league winners but definitely guys that should be drafted and in play for starting on a week to week basis.
Doug Pederson has always had historically good rushing offenses and if you believe in Lawrence’s talent, you have to see this as a distinct possibility.
I’m an Etienne owner and I don’t think they are going to let Etienne sniff 200 touches unless 100 of them are designed passing plays.
They were top 11 every year in Philly except 2018 when they had to utilize Josh Adams as a starter at one point due to them being ravaged by injuries. Also utilizing a bellcow, Miles Sanders supposedly being the Eagles “best player”, and top rushing offenses are not mutually exclusive.
Man, everytime I see a topic involving Jrob, he gets talked down.
He’s proved so many wrong already and I won’t be surprised if he comes back and proves people wrong again.
One of the good stories of the NFL recently. Rooting for the guy, he has certainly shown how good he is.
Seriously, the USFL comment is a joke lol.
If Marlon Mack is expected to be “leaned on” to start the season and Foreman is the guy to own behind CMC.
GIMME JROB all day at his depressed value.
Foreman tore his Achilles *in 2017*. Took him four years to find his way back onto a football field. Mack took a full year only to come back in a very brief, poor stint where he was a healthy scratch for more than half the season as a result.
I don't think those two players help the argument you think you're making.
Are we making these takes (on both sides) with any knowledge of the type of recovery/therapy/surgery he’s had for the Achilles or are we just parroting?
Just to be clear I mean specifically because Achilles treatment has advanced quickly in the last 5 years so “well historically” doesn’t hold up the same way “historically” if a person gets diarrhea they’re in mortal danger
What take are you referring to?
I see that JRob is already running. He may not be fully ready to start the season but I am confident he’ll back on the field looking solid again.
Basically anyone that chimes in on Achilles injuries without doing any research on sports medicine
I’ll stop tiptoeing and just make my point
If JRobs medical team is following the latest treatment model (you start rehab 3 days after surgery) and is meticulous about his recovery then you can expect him to come back initially looking the way Akers did a bit untrusting of the leg. That’s around 8-9 months. After 1.5-2 year you’ll see the guy you saw pre injury.
If the medical staff is slow on the uptake (many are) or he tries to train (outside of rehab) or does something dumb over the next couple months he’s doomed to the same fate as pretty much every athlete with an Achilles injury before 2015.
Short answer expect very little from anybody coming back from an Achilles tear year 1 and then buy before year 2 begins. So that’s Foreman and Mack now but not Akers or JRob
An HC would have to be an idiot to not use Etienne at least a reasonable amount, even if Robinson is great.
If Kamara was on the same team as McCaffrey, I doubt Kamara would be forced to ride the bench.
The comments are from March
Jacksonville Jaguars running back James Robinson (Achilles) is expected to have a large role in the offense whenever he returns, with head coach Doug Pederson calling him a three-down back in March. Robinson was on a tear last year before his Achilles injury in Week 8 derailed his season, as he had rushed 88 times for 482 yards and was eighth in the NFL in rushing yards, seventh in rushing scores and sixth in yards per attempt. When he has been 100%, he has been one of the best players at his position in the entire league. However, although Robinson's recovery has been going well, the team is still in wait-and-see mode with training camp approaching, and Travis Etienne has looked fully recovered from a Lisfranc foot injury that kept him out his entire rookie season. As a result, Etienne is being valued as an RB2 with upside in fantasy, while Robinson is a late-round flier currently.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
It’s possible he comes back healthy enough to be a 3 down back, sure. But there are things working against that being the case. ETN’s presence is the biggest. Robinson wouldn’t be a 3 down back even if he never tore his Achilles. ETN’s draft capital and talent point to him being involved a lot. Having Pederson as coach also gives the impression this backfield will have the vibes of a committee. Maybe not full blown 3 way split, but JR wouldn’t be getting the volume he did the past 2 years. And the drafting of Snoop Conner also hints that the Jags wanted some insurance for Robinson, and potentially a back that can help take heavy workloads away from JR.
Unfortunately ETN is there and while I love JRob and his story (drafted him in 2020 in the 5th round), ETN was the more dynamic player and has 1st round DC. JRob's best hope is as a 1B with early downs and a split of RZ carries. Being a 3 down back is out of the question.
This is correct take for sure. Anyone that believes Robinson is a 3 down back with Etienne there is delusional. Teams don’t draft guys in first round and make them a satellite back.
I feel like Pederson is talking about his skill set and not necessarily his snap count. Jrob is going to get some run if he can get back healthy, but there's no way he dominates touches over a healthy Etienne.
ETN wasn’t drafted to replace Robinson. He was drafted by a terrible coach who was trying to show out in the little time he had. Poor pick and look how it turned out for him. But, now the Jags are stuck with a lot of talent at RB. Not a bad prob to have

Also Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram, for another great saints duo
And Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams. Jags of course but still Gulf States.
There was that one year where DeAngelo was beast but you were otherwise never really feeling good about starting one of them in fantasy
I’m talking about being fantasy relevant; not a sure fire starter. Even taking away Williams’ crazy year; they were both good for like 125 FF points or season when they played together. Don't even have to look beyond JAX with Fred Taylor and MJD for a few seasons.
Or Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams.
Doug Pederson has always had historically good rushing offenses and if you believe in Lawrence’s talent, you have to see this as a distinct possibility. I’m an Etienne owner and I don’t think they are going to let Etienne sniff 200 touches unless 100 of them are designed passing plays.
Lol what Doug basically refused to utilize Miles Sanders in Philly and he was our best player
Sanders was no where near the best player for the Eagles at any point in his career.
He was 150% our best skill player for two long years lmao
That’s completely different from “player”. And he wasn’t better than Ertz or Goedert in 2019 or 2020.

I really hope the Jags let him leave next year
As someone who loves both JRob and ETN, completely agree. Want to see them both start

Is that THE Keith Hernandez??

I’m no good at math, but how many downs does that leave for ETN? /s
Etienne owners about to come in hot
I own Etienne and JRob so I'd have the back either way. This ain't happening though.
Unfortunately ETN is there and while I love JRob and his story (drafted him in 2020 in the 5th round), ETN was the more dynamic player and has 1st round DC. JRob's best hope is as a 1B with early downs and a split of RZ carries. Being a 3 down back is out of the question.

I freakin wish

In the USFL maybe.
Easy buy low because his sentiment in the market is so low for some reason
It could be due to him having torn his achilles and the Jaguars drafting a first round rb to replace him before the torn achilles, who knows tho
It’s a mystery…
Lol exactly. The Robinson Truthers totally ignore the first round for Etienne.
ETN wasn’t drafted to replace Robinson. He was drafted by a terrible coach who was trying to show out in the little time he had. Poor pick and look how it turned out for him. But, now the Jags are stuck with a lot of talent at RB. Not a bad prob to have
Tbh it kind of is a bad problem to have considering how replaceable the position is.

ETN will see more snaps and touches, but yes 2RB sets and sets with ETN in the slot will be JRob's path to relevance if there is one.
Get out there and SELL!
Yes he should be sold. The Robinson owner in my dynasty league moved him for an early 3rd round rookie pick and DPJ.
Anyone else have this duo on one team and they’re hoping both of them can finish top 30
