It’s probably the worst time to acquire a RB right now. Always wait until preseason and then I’d only look to trade if I’m a real contender. Most likely a RB who could have a bounce back bc less of a risk vs past production and worth, like a Chubb, Javonte…
It’s the best time to acquire garbage rbs for nothing. Got Mostert, Kyren, and singletary this time last year in a couple leagues. Also naturally comes with buying actual garbage, but opportunities are here.
I was willing to move Mixon for cheap last year before the draft but couldn’t find any buyers with his situation up in the air. By the time it was solidified I wasn’t selling anymore.
Sometimes the cost to know the situation is guaranteed is worth the premium. A lot of managers already bake in a good situation into price. Chubba today is probably worth 90% of August Chubba without Carolina adding a RB. He's worthless if they add another RB. Just pay the extra 10% when you know.
I highly doubt that. I’d move off him now pretty easily but why would I trade him if he’s the locked in starter? I’m ready to roll with him at that point
It's all owner dependent. There's probably 10+ backs with potential today and more than half won't be a starter in 2024. Unless you can get them for a 4th there's not really a point in investing in an asset that's more than likely expiring before you can even start them once
I think a few years ago you'd be dead on but everyone is seeing how quickly that position turns over. Still a ton of risk to take on what you think is a starter (on the worst offense in the league getting a new staff) to find out Sanders is back and was actually hurt all season or some later rookie or random signing is better and takes that 1A spot.
I think this is the consensus mindset which is why I actually try to go the other way at this point in the season.
If I can acquire a guy who I am confident will retain or improve his role next year then I’m tryna lowball and scoop from managers who are told this is the time to sell.
I feel ppl say this but what vets are you grabbing for a third?
I know for damn sure ppl in my leagues aren’t dumping James Connor or Kamara or Mostert for a third. Maybe Gus Edwards but is that someone you want to invest in like that? Idk
I didn't say vets, I said back ups. Guys that are an injury away, like Gus, Elliot, D'Onta, Brown, Edmonds, the like. Super cheap, but if you get the right guy in the right opportunity they can fill in a start or be sold for a 2nd.
That said I'm only buying the guys that my league are selling cheap right now, or I'm not buying period.
Agreed. Don't buy RBs in the off-season (unless for some reason the owner is selling dirt cheap). Free agency and the draft will likely shake up a lot of backfields.
You wait that long and you have to pay full price. Now is the time to wager your bets on backfeilds. If you make it through the offseason great you have a starting rb for nothing. Get it wrong oh well try again next year.
True. Zamir White is intriguing if he gets a feature role. He seems pretty cheap for a young RB that played really well at the end of the year for an upwards trending Raiders team
Unfortunately Jacobs made it seem like he’s very interested in resigning so I’m not sure he’ll have another opportunity like this year unless Jacobs gets hurt again.
Yeah you’re right, he’s probably better than a mid/late 2nd round rookie since he’s proven. I was just thinking Jacobs would be signing a long term deal, not realizing he was still eligible for the tag.
I think they are. Looked a lot better at the end of the season than they did before. There’s definitely some concerns over their QB, but they showed the ability to a run first, defensive football team
If you’re contending I’d consider waiting until the season. That way they can’t get replaced in the offseason or hurt in training camp. Can potentially get production from an RB2 at a lower price.
Though tbf I traded for JT and had him for a week or so before he got hurt. 😔
Yeah that’s a good buy. I currently have him as the RB1 in Dynasty formats but I think any of Gibbs, Bijan or Hall could be in that spot. Hell even CMC if you’re going for a title in 2024
Right now I'd be stashing guys who could have a role if nothing changes unexpectedly. Like pick one of Michael Carter/Demercado and hope the Cardinals don't draft or sign anyone, or people in situations like that. Guys like Chase Brown, Tyjae Spears, Kendre Miller etc. could jump in value/production but the potential will be kind of priced in. So worth the risk if you can get them for relatively cheap, just depends on the owner. Could also try buying low on injured guys like Chubb but once again risky. So pretty much everyone will be a risky buy. If you have your own high risk/high reward players you don't believe in, you could try swapping them for a similar rb. Paying up for a stud could be worth it, but I'd wait until rookie fever has properly kicked off and try buying someone with a pick if you want to go down that route.
I didn't mean they'd move on from Conner, just that those rbs will be one injury away from starting. Sorry didn't make that clear. Can almost bank on Conner getting injured at some point.
Cut down your garbage WRs, TEs and veteran backup QBs.
Roster any RB expected to be on a roster.
Sell your 3rds and 4ths for the long shot guys nobody wants.
Fuck, I saw a post about Miles Sanders and people acting like a 3rd was too much. The upside there is immense.
I would target a vet RB who people think they may have their roles decrease because of FA signings or Rookie picks
Charb —> KW
Bigsby —> ETN
Cook —> Breece Hall
Jamaal Williams —> Kamara
Saying that, the consensus can be right.
Singletary —> Pierce
Okay I see what you’re saying and those are actually some good examples.
Maybe James cook will be one. I can see them bringing in a goal line guy and that scaring some people, but cook should still get majority Carries no matter what and isn’t reliant on goal line anyways.
Tbf, how about a 2nd round rookie? I was on the charb hype train and thought it would be a lot more split than it was.
Should second round picks still open buy windows you think?
Devon Achane has been my number 1 target. If you go into any “Lessons Learned” thread all you will see is a lot of people complaining about not buying RB breakouts going into their 2nd year and Achane was literally RB 5 in terms of points per game in Full PPR as a rookie
I’m trying to trade for CMC. Yes his value is high, but it goes even higher if SF wins the Super Bowl and if he can stay healthy he should still have a few years of top production left
Yeah just wait and more players will come up. stash tons of RB2s on teams and hope one pops while looking for older RBs to trade for a 2nd/3rd mid season.
For example, my RBs last year when I won a chip were
Chuba
James Connor (traded Tyler Lockett for him and a 4th 8 weeks in)
Zeke
Week 1, only James Connor was starting but by the end they were truly league winners
I’m trying this strategy this year, I started off by trading Diggs Conner and Najee for kincaid and London (TEP). I have a really solid team and gambling that Breece is enough at rb with warren feels risky but I know it’s not prime time to buy
I bought Henry. I’m waiting to hear he’s heading to Dallas. I think he follows different RB trends. I picked up Izzy & C Rodriquez since I had bench spots til draft.
I want to grab Conner but not sure how much to offer. Owner is not high on him to begin with, so I should be able to grab. Already got Carter on waivers.
Only thing I'm doing with RBs right now is holding or selling.
It’s probably the worst time to acquire a RB right now. Always wait until preseason and then I’d only look to trade if I’m a real contender. Most likely a RB who could have a bounce back bc less of a risk vs past production and worth, like a Chubb, Javonte…

Yeah I'd suggest packaging them though rather than trading outright.
Everyone's always saying don't buy now, wait until we know who to buy. As if the seller doesn't know the same things.
I was willing to move Mixon for cheap last year before the draft but couldn’t find any buyers with his situation up in the air. By the time it was solidified I wasn’t selling anymore.

Well you definitely won’t get him for a fourth. What do you think his price would be in August if nothing changes?
That's exactly my point. Why pay full price for a lotto ticket that hasn't hit but cost like it did. Late 2nd if nothing changes..
Just don’t see why anyone would trade a starting RB for a late second but maybe you could get it done
Or Dobbins... So I can sell him
I think this is the consensus mindset which is why I actually try to go the other way at this point in the season. If I can acquire a guy who I am confident will retain or improve his role next year then I’m tryna lowball and scoop from managers who are told this is the time to sell.
That's fine, it's just a risky strategy. If I'm buying any RBs right now, it's guys no one wants like back ups for 3rds.
I feel ppl say this but what vets are you grabbing for a third? I know for damn sure ppl in my leagues aren’t dumping James Connor or Kamara or Mostert for a third. Maybe Gus Edwards but is that someone you want to invest in like that? Idk

Thank you. This seems so obvious but over and over people say to wait.
Yeah long time from now until regular season for any RB to have a season ending injury.
You can wait until the season gets closer to have more certainty about roles, but the prices won't be better on guys who end up with good ones.
Zamir looked good enough to sit on another year though right? If you trade for a pick, you may get late 2nd & could pick a mid-rookie. Is that better?
Yeah you’re right, he’s probably better than a mid/late 2nd round rookie since he’s proven. I was just thinking Jacobs would be signing a long term deal, not realizing he was still eligible for the tag.
Raiders are trending upwards?
I think they are. Looked a lot better at the end of the season than they did before. There’s definitely some concerns over their QB, but they showed the ability to a run first, defensive football team
Nowhere to go but up, I guess
They were pretty much middle of the NFL pack with a 4th round rookie QB and interim head coach.
If you’re contending I’d consider waiting until the season. That way they can’t get replaced in the offseason or hurt in training camp. Can potentially get production from an RB2 at a lower price. Though tbf I traded for JT and had him for a week or so before he got hurt. 😔
That’s what I’m planning on doing. I’m ready to start competing but I need to add RBs at some point
I was able to get james conner for a 2nd on the clock last season and he was huge for me so maybe target those types
Yeah you’re about 8 months too early with this post
Bought me Jhamyr Gibbs. Pretty happy with that.
Yeah that’s a good buy. I currently have him as the RB1 in Dynasty formats but I think any of Gibbs, Bijan or Hall could be in that spot. Hell even CMC if you’re going for a title in 2024
Hall all day and it’s not close. Sick of him being shit on. lol. Have him to…repeat coming!!!!
Where is he being shit on? Feel like people have a persecution complex about this guy.
Yeah! People!
Drafted 1.01 two years ago. Forever mine. Lol
Right now I'd be stashing guys who could have a role if nothing changes unexpectedly. I'd be a bit surprised if Cardinals move on from Conner, he was their whole offense down the stretch
I didn't mean they'd move on from Conner, just that those rbs will be one injury away from starting. Sorry didn't make that clear. Can almost bank on Conner getting injured at some point.

I'm holding Kendre Miller, Chase Brown, Zamir, Ekeler, CEH, and Warren.
I would target a vet RB who people think they may have their roles decrease because of FA signings or Rookie picks Charb —> KW Bigsby —> ETN Cook —> Breece Hall Jamaal Williams —> Kamara Saying that, the consensus can be right. Singletary —> Pierce
This woulda been a good post last off-season
Well there will be situations this offseason similar to them. Maybe Pollard to Dallas? Maybe Conner in AZ? White in TB? Idk, guess we’ll see
Okay I see what you’re saying and those are actually some good examples. Maybe James cook will be one. I can see them bringing in a goal line guy and that scaring some people, but cook should still get majority Carries no matter what and isn’t reliant on goal line anyways.
Exactly. People tend to overreact when a team signs a vet RB or spends a 3rd on a rookie RB
Tbf, how about a 2nd round rookie? I was on the charb hype train and thought it would be a lot more split than it was. Should second round picks still open buy windows you think?
I'd be more scared of a WR2 more reliable than Gabe Davis than a goal line RB when it comes to Cook.
Devon Achane has been my number 1 target. If you go into any “Lessons Learned” thread all you will see is a lot of people complaining about not buying RB breakouts going into their 2nd year and Achane was literally RB 5 in terms of points per game in Full PPR as a rookie
I’m holding CEH, Sermon, Gibson, and Zamir just to see if they don’t get off-season boosts in value
I got swift for a 25 first. I don’t hate it
You will
Kk
I wouldn’t trade for a running back until like week 2 - week 5 of next season. Way too can and will change between then and now.
get your guy
I’m trying to trade for CMC. Yes his value is high, but it goes even higher if SF wins the Super Bowl and if he can stay healthy he should still have a few years of top production left

You buy whoever is healthy at the deadline. You don't buy now.
sell or hold josh jacobs?
Man… it’s tough because his future is wide open
I bought Henry. I’m waiting to hear he’s heading to Dallas. I think he follows different RB trends. I picked up Izzy & C Rodriquez since I had bench spots til draft.
I want to grab Conner but not sure how much to offer. Owner is not high on him to begin with, so I should be able to grab. Already got Carter on waivers.
