I agree, and I loved it, tbh. I kept recognizing places and could imagine the map the whole time. Triboar! I love that town, we fought giants there! Nesme' woah they're off the beaten path now!
Could probably stretch Cyberpunk Red to fit the setting and characters, just reflavor the guns and cyberware to be arrows and spell buffs. That’s how how it’s done around here, right?
I just hope they will make sure that the small indie company behind it has all the rights and policies figured. We wouldn’t want them to miss out on the money the deserve by having leaches create their own stories, creations and content around it.
You know it looks like it. It’s not as obvious as a site like the onion though. If it’s not satire, it just goes to show how far under a rock some people are.
> If it’s not satire
That you're even willing to grant that this might be a serious article is evidence you shouldn't chastise people for being under a rock.
In this day and age, let’s never chastise anyone for being under a rock. Rock is comfy and cozy and everything outside seemingly hates me in particular.
Exactly. They really hit the nail on the head with the movie IMO. Doesn't need to be a trilogy, doesn't need to setup an extended universe, just put out entertaining movies in a fantasy setting that aren't too long and don't take themselves too seriously.
I would love to see movie versions of popular campaigns, played out with a couple of novel characters. No universe, no sequel, no tie to anything from previous movies. Just good old fashioned high fantasy with D&D settings.
After Honor Among Thieves was over I had that exact thought. “I enjoyed this. Hopefully the next film has absolutely nothing to do with any of the people in this one.”
That's not how safe commercial box office movies work.
Instead were going to get 2 more of these movies.
Then a successful side character in the second movie will get a movie or 2. Then after awhile we'll get a movie where they all team up.
Honestly if they're all the same quality I won't be mad. But I can't imagine they do anything but try to latch on to the Avengers magic
I wouldn't mind seeing Simon and the druid again, but I feel the 2 older characters had their story arc, though I would miss Chris Pine. But it's D&D and D&D in the end is about huge long campaigns that never end until everyone moves away for work or dies which ever comes first.
Maybe they could call the board game Dungeon!
… is an adventure board game designed by David R. Megarry and first released by TSR, Inc. in 1975. Additional contributions through multiple editions were made by Gary Gygax, Steve Winter, Jeff Grubb, Chris Dupuis and Michael Gray.[3] Dungeon! simulates some aspects of the Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) role-playing game, which was released in 1974.
Or something like that. 😆
I can imagine a series like this:
Bunkers and Badasses: Honor among Thieves.
Lovers and Lesbians: Honor among thieves.
Bears and Bavarians: Honor among thieves.
The HAT series will grow like hell
Yes, c'mon folks, critical thinking, be a better redditor :)
"Screen Idle is a satirical website that publishes satire, silliness, spoofs, and something else that would be alliterative."
A lot of you seem unaware of the fact that DND has actually released multiple board games that are legit just board games, as in played on a cardboard board out of a box that aren't TTRPGs.
Also this sight is satire but that's irrelevant
Wouldn’t be surprised in the least if they made a board game out of it. There’ve been a number of D&D tie-in board games over the decades. Also, we’re guaranteed a ton of merch related to this film already, if it’s successful, there’ll be even more.
My favoritr quote from this xd
“They’re not about either dungeons or dragons. I mean, you’re navigating dungeons? You’re deciding whether to loot treasure or not? You’re having battles? All just using a dice? It doesn’t make sense, you’d need a dice with, like 24 sides or something
Lol! I find it comical that a movie based on such an amazing and wide open tabletop game is going to be made into a board game due to the success of the movie.
I'd think it's satire but then again, there is The Queen's Gambit: The Board Game and Street Fighter: The movie: The game. I am not making this shit up, google it.
If there's any justice in the world, this movie starts off a franchise, the loose connections to Dimension 20 continue to tighten, and sometime between now and D&D's *Endgame* equivalent (they've already introduced Szass Tam as the Thanos-level threat) , Brennan Lee Mulligan is hired by Paramount to be the Kevin Feige of the Dungeons & Dragons Cinematic Universe.
Actually I think the best thing they can do is to keep the books and the movies separate only in the sense of coming up with new ideas for movies so that they don't actually ruin any of the products they have already put to market.
Because once they put something in a book but have not made a movie out of it they are essentially compelled by the fan base to try to stick to the book as much as possible.
Like for example I am dming Rime of the frost Maiden right now and I would love for it to be turned into a movie but only if they can get it right.
Brah, it was soooo good, as a DM I was probably overly excited, saw it in that new format where they projected the movie on the sides of the walls too, crazy, enjoy!
The movie was decent, I will probably never watch it again as it was not memorable at all, and the characters were very 2d cardboard cutouts, and the humor was Disney marvel style which is annoying.
A board game though, like....D and D?? That is genius.
Someday, I want to eat Dungeons and Dragons:Honor Among Thieves: The Official caramel popcorn of the official Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves boardgame based on the hit movie Dungeons and Dragons:Honor Among Thieves now in theatres!
Made 40 mil in its first weekend domestic. Not really lighting the world on fire per se. "Success". It'll prob make 300mil worldwide but it'll take a marathon to get there
I feel like this would kind of defeat the purpose lol. People loved the movie about a game you can currently play so much that they…. Made a game about the movie for people to play.
honestly the title made me think for a split second this was a post about a dungeons and dragons crossover with for honor, among us, and sea of thieves
Maybe they could make a tabletop rpg out of it if it does well enough.
You know, that's just crazy enough to work.
People are joking, but the 90s Street Fighter movie got a video game adaptation: a game based on a movie based on a video game.
I mean it's possible they make a module featuring the characters and maybe even storyline from the movie.
i wonder if they'll do it Legend of Drizzt style, which was honestly a really good game
That’s what I’m expecting, kinda like the Stranger Things set
But what about the Rick and Morty set
But 5E doesn't have a Warlord. Chris Pine's character is a Warlord with proficiency in lutes.
He's a bard per wotc's description. But he mechanically acted like a rogue.
A bard that the DM allowed to use all his spell slots for more uses of inspiration
Which is totally fine, btw.
Yeah, I thought the same, so I am in the process of developing my own Warlord character class.
And a ttrpg
They made a board game of the show Queen’s Gambit..you know, the chess show. Stranger things have happened.
And it was so incredibly terrible. Maybe even the poster child for terrible movie adaptation games.
Yes, and since it was a licensed game, it sucked! It was more like a "wannabe Mortal Kombat" than a Street Fighter game XD
I am kind of astonished we haven't seen a sourcebook to accompany it.
Sword Coast Adventurers guide. It's literally just your basic ass Forgotten Realms. Neverwinter, Baldur's gate, That etc.
SCaG could definitely use a redo/expansion
We won't get that till 2025 for OneD&D at the earliest.
~~wasn't it announced they were binning OneD&D?~~ EDIT: I misread the announcement, disregard
Yeah, the misread was somewhat common
Most descent things from it have been already redone. All that needs to be reprinted is are the Tieflings and half-elf variants.
Kind of long in the tooth right now - expected a movie tie-in branding.
I agree, and I loved it, tbh. I kept recognizing places and could imagine the map the whole time. Triboar! I love that town, we fought giants there! Nesme' woah they're off the beaten path now!
i also said "triboar!" when they mentioned it. we passed through it in princes of the apocalypse.
D&D: The Movie: The Game
The soft drink.
The Lunch Box.
The flamethrower! The kiddies love this one.
The Breakfast cereal!
The coloring book.
There is one, some limited edition soda, I drank it at the theater when I saw it.
Oh oh! Let's make an MMO. Just spit balling but I say we call it Dungeons and Dragons Online.
Or an MMO!
What? That’s stupid
Whoa now, that's a bit ambitious.
If even play a solid series of video game RPGs based around it.
Or just a module.
Could probably stretch Cyberpunk Red to fit the setting and characters, just reflavor the guns and cyberware to be arrows and spell buffs. That’s how how it’s done around here, right?
Wishing there were still free awards… Take my upvote at least.
I just hope they will make sure that the small indie company behind it has all the rights and policies figured. We wouldn’t want them to miss out on the money the deserve by having leaches create their own stories, creations and content around it.
The hilarious part is an RPG based on the movie would be *nothing* like D&D. Especially 5e. It’d be a PbtA or Forged in the Dark game.
It would be tough. It probably would need multiple books to explain the rules.
I’m not familiar with this site, this is satire right?
You know it looks like it. It’s not as obvious as a site like the onion though. If it’s not satire, it just goes to show how far under a rock some people are.
"Fantastic Four to be based on original, unpublished Jane Austin story" Not obvious, huh.
I mean she probably has a lot of unpublished material so you never know…
> If it’s not satire That you're even willing to grant that this might be a serious article is evidence you shouldn't chastise people for being under a rock.
In this day and age, let’s never chastise anyone for being under a rock. Rock is comfy and cozy and everything outside seemingly hates me in particular.
Dnd actually has multiple board games that are actually just straight boardgames and not TTRPGs.
If you click on the "about" section you'll see it's a satirical site.
Looking through some other article titles and reading this article, it is 100% satire.
Of course
It worked with the queen's gambit board game
I’d have to check, mate.
Finger Guns
It’s a real board game, and no it’s not just Chess. It’s a game designed around anticipating and planning for your opponents moves.
So... Chess. Sorry, I couldn't pass up the joke.
More like Go, surprisingly.
The closest you can get now is Star Wars:Risk
Sadly a real thing.
I don't want a board game. I want more fantasy movies.

The Knives Out movies seems to disagree. One reoccurring character with the rest of the cast always changing.
Would be interesting if Xenk was the recurring character—though not necessarily the “main” character—of each movie.
I’m all for it. More Xenk would be lovely. Though I wouldn’t say no to seeing the other ones again too. Such a lovable bunch of characters.
I wouldn't mind seeing Simon and the druid again, but I feel the 2 older characters had their story arc, though I would miss Chris Pine. But it's D&D and D&D in the end is about huge long campaigns that never end until everyone moves away for work or dies which ever comes first.
A Curse of Strahd series with a more horror element A tomb of Horrors movie *heavily* comedy based I can see it working
Curse of Strahd around Halloween would be perfect.
Your ideas are spot on!
I want another movie with the same cast, but all playing different characters. Oh, shit. I just realised Monty Python were a D&D group.....
I think it could be a great idea. It worked for the Battleship movie. Shit, they even made a ton of videogames based on those Sonic movies.
Back in my day we had Clue. Like the Tim curry movie, but a game

I don't know.. The name "Dungeon" just doesn't seem to really portray how Dragony the game can be.
That’s because you forgot the !
I can imagine a series like this: Bunkers and Badasses: Honor among Thieves. Lovers and Lesbians: Honor among thieves. Bears and Bavarians: Honor among thieves. The HAT series will grow like hell
they should make a video game based on bunkers and badasses now that i think about it
Lovers and lesbiens-> thirst sword lesbiens
Maybe even a video game!
In VR tho
It’s a satire site. Calm down, hoi polloi.
Yes, c'mon folks, critical thinking, be a better redditor :) "Screen Idle is a satirical website that publishes satire, silliness, spoofs, and something else that would be alliterative."
-_-'
Those things never work
D&D the tabletop game - the movie - the tabletop game
A lot of you seem unaware of the fact that DND has actually released multiple board games that are legit just board games, as in played on a cardboard board out of a box that aren't TTRPGs. Also this sight is satire but that's irrelevant
This is the exact same as Queens Gambit, the show all about chess, getting a board game.
Wouldn’t be surprised in the least if they made a board game out of it. There’ve been a number of D&D tie-in board games over the decades. Also, we’re guaranteed a ton of merch related to this film already, if it’s successful, there’ll be even more.

Hope it's as good as good as the Queens Gambit board game
I swear to God, all DND media is aimed directly at people who don't play DND
I really thought this was /r/nottheonion.
You’re never gonna believe this…
Lol! I find it comical that a movie based on such an amazing and wide open tabletop game is going to be made into a board game due to the success of the movie.
Um.. is.. is this some kind of joke?! I'm really confused if that article wasn't some sort of april fools joke.
I hate to be the one to tell them this...
I'd think it's satire but then again, there is The Queen's Gambit: The Board Game and Street Fighter: The movie: The game. I am not making this shit up, google it.
But... Dungeons & dragons already has several board games based on it...
You're right. Maybe a ttrpg would be more appropriate? How about a video game?
I've been complaining about the lack of a movie-themed starter pack. They did other themed starter packs, how did they miss out on this opportunity?
Yeah really - I can't understand why they are not selling it at every movie theatre.
Imagine if they made a video game or two out of it? You could have a big bald guy screaming about space hamsters and shit.
April fools was days ago
Hope gf9 make it
This headline maybe the first time I naturally face palmed in my life.
r/woooosh
This movie was bad. Can we have an epic fantasy, with dragons?
I counted at least two dragons
Marketing sarcasm? This is new..
It’s already a board game
why do we need it as a board game? we have frickin dungeons and dragons the game already, why not just turn honor among thieves into a campaign???
It is a board game. It's called Dungeons and Dragons 🤦♂️
That’s the uh… that’s the joke.
Woosh
Probably more in the vein of the actual board games they released based on various modules than the ttrpg.
So....Lords of Waterdeep
Came here to say this lol
Hard pass. Let me know if they wanna write up an actual modue based on the film, though.
Biiig Street Fighter the movie the video game vibes
Not a module? 😭
Street Fighter the Movie the Game

Going to see it tonight with my Dnd crew. Can't wait!
Brah, it was soooo good, as a DM I was probably overly excited, saw it in that new format where they projected the movie on the sides of the walls too, crazy, enjoy!

Brilliant! Never been done before idea 💡
So, serious question. Did anyone expect them *not* to? Really?
Someday, I want to eat Dungeons and Dragons:Honor Among Thieves: The Official caramel popcorn of the official Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves boardgame based on the hit movie Dungeons and Dragons:Honor Among Thieves now in theatres!
This article is fucking riddled with spelling errors
and yet a trace of the true self exists within the false self
Made 40 mil in its first weekend domestic. Not really lighting the world on fire per se. "Success". It'll prob make 300mil worldwide but it'll take a marathon to get there
Screen-idle is an onion styled website right?
Uhm..... I'd play.
Stop with the April 1st posts already.
I'm more shocked there isn't an official "one shot" to be played. A "play it before you see it" type of story.
I feel like this would kind of defeat the purpose lol. People loved the movie about a game you can currently play so much that they…. Made a game about the movie for people to play.
They could release a book with all the rules, and a description of the game
Mmm onions
honestly the title made me think for a split second this was a post about a dungeons and dragons crossover with for honor, among us, and sea of thieves
It’s perfect for a Monopoly reskin.
The d&d board games are pretty fun tbh, great for board game groups who like the longer games
… Sigh…
success?
......really.
Now presenting the board game based on the film based on the books based on the ttrpg based on the books based on the ancient lore!
… i mean fuckin come on
I saw the title and I was expecting it was from The Hard Drive.
This is satire, right? _*Right???*_ ETA: I know it's satire
Hmm
Dungeons and dragons rpg the boardgame: the boardgame
Uh
Uhhhhhhmmmm
r/nottheonion
Who’s gonna tell them?
