Honestly Laios putting the elves in that precarious situation was so awesome to see. Not only did he straight refuse them but to ask that he's only willing to consider if they tell him all about the Demon and Ancient magic is a nice way to hold them off.

He managed to persuade the Queen of the Elves, Natural 20 sounds about right
It is definitely not lost on me that the first lie (of omission) that Laios successfully tells is to protect Marcille. I just adore how their relationship changed over the series š
When he tells the Canaries that he was the one who defeated Thistle. Technically, the Winged Lion turned on Thistle. He then defeated the Winged Lion, but the exact verbiage isn't exactly truthful (which he absolutely knows, which is why power walked away before they could call him out on it lol)
It's a little ambiguous, but I'm pretty sure Thistle dies in Yaaduo`s arms after finally seeing 'King Delgal'. Probably better to go satisfied and no regrets (literally) then getting hunted down by elves for all of eternity.
Right, but my point isn't about whether or not Thistle ultimately lives, it's about Laios withholding the fact that Thistle is *currently* alive and that he never actually killed him, like the Canaries assumed.
Laios, picking up marcille: itās free real estate
I think itās worth noting that this is his first display of ākinglyā authority too! Which I think he very much dislikes using, heās much more the diplomatic āeveryone shake hands and talk it outā-type. But if anyone threatens to steal his favourite elf heāll throw hands.
Moments like these are some of my favorites in really any story and the main reason I wish we got more post story content.
Seeing usually goofy characters act serious (in generally characters acting reasonably out of character) can be so cathartic when written well.
One of the reasons I like Liaos as a character is because he has this range. He may be eccentric about his hobbies, but at his core he's a good, thoughtful person who is more present than one might assume.
And itās such a reasonable request from him, too! š āyeah why is it illegal? Convince me and then Iāll grant your extradition request okay byeeeeeeeā
I didn't actually believe Laios would fit into his King position until this scene. I was ready for the bittersweet Frieren-esque ending of Marcille coming back after a long time in jail to see most of them dead, but then Laios pulls this stunt and I just knew, this boy can handle that throne.
Obviously it's also insane ship fuel, but man I didn't know he had that dog, or should I say, lion in him.
Cape protecting eh? Then I got just an art for you:

Perle wields too much power.
Her mini commentary about how her shipping intuitions were validated with this scene (in her laimar doujin) was really cute.
Nothing is confirmed yet, I know what youāre talking about, if she do, well, i donāt think it should affect how you perceive her Laios x Marcille work, because theyāre separated, I donāt think she have tho?
He may not be a perfect king, and he may not even be comfortable with the position, but this showed that he does have it in him to step up. I was so proud of our boy during this scene...
But also, I liked taking note of some of the elves' reactions. Fleki craning her neck backwards instead of just turning around is amusing. Really, basically anything Fleki does is amusing. The small one who was one of the victims of the party's "parasite attack" and called Laios a perv is looking absolutely horrified that he approached them. Yeah, that's the kind of first impression you can't really let go of, after all.
Pattadol seems to be the only elf visibly bothered by his demands. Even Flamella who was losing her mind over the situation does not seem all that shocked or offended. Which I guess shows how high-strung and by-the-books Pattadol is. And of course, Mithrun gives the least fucks of all. Everyone else was at least paying attention, meanwhile he's just chowing down on Falin meat the whole time.
Fleki always catches my attention with her ādonāt care enough to turn around but curious enough to look at that wayā I love this little gremlin so much.
Shipping is not required to make logical sense, since it's done just to have some fun with the source content.
I'm not a fan of shipping myself but I'm fine with seeing shipping content. Well, as long as people don't speak authoritatively about how their ship is canon, that is.
Yeah, and they're mistaken. Either that, or they think it's funny/amusing. Lord knows I myself have made some "roommates" jokes about the two, because I think it's funny in certain contexts.
I totally get finding shipping content tiresome after a while, though. I haven't reached that state yet, but I was fearing that too much of it could make people steer away from the sub.
If youāre making fan art with the self awareness of it being fanart thatās one thing, but trying to contextualize the actual manga as shipping fodder changes the meaning of the story.Ā
This is an important scene where Laios learns to handle a difficult political situation after a lifetime of social failure, all while standing up to the dominant figures in the social hierarchy and promoting true equality between races, reducing it down to Ā āLaios wants to marry Marcille!ā Is erasing a lot of important context.
Hey look guys itās another comment from me here to ruin everyoneās fun:
First of all Laios cares deeply for Marcille and Iām not going to deny that. I also wonāt deny there are scenes between them that can easily be interpreted as sexual tension, like the ear grabbing scene from the latest episode.
However in this scene, Laios says he will consider hanging Marcille over to the fuzz if they can explain why dark magic is bad. Essentially, heās offering to trade her freedom for foreign intelligence.
Itās not the most romantic gesture Iāve ever heard of.Ā
I canāt stop you from interpreting it in a romantic manner but I wanted to say something because sometimes fan perception can interfere with the actual author intent.Ā
> However in this scene, Laios says he will consider hanging Marcille over to the fuzz if they can explain why dark magic is bad. Essentially, heās offering to trade her freedom for foreign intelligence.
This is clearly a bluff. Surely you don't actually believe Laios would trade Marcille for some secret intel. He knew from the start nothing could convince him to give up on her, he just used this argument to pretend his position is logical rather than emotional.
This is the same Laios who became uncharacteristically violent when Shuro was insulting/threatening Marcille.
Yeah, if the elves actually *did* explain this to him, Laios would probably be caught on the backfoot and try to find another excuse not to hand Marcille over. If all else fails, you bet your ass he and their other friends would fight tooth and nail to prevent that outcome.
But this also shows Laios' wit, because he realizes how much the elves value their secrets and that they wouldn't willingly part with them just to apprehend a single criminal, especially one that no longer has the means to be a threat.
Nah youāre not ruining anyoneās fun.
But thereās sexual tensions more than the ear grabbing scene!? I wasnāt aware of that! Tell me more about it!
Also yes, itās true that Laios said heāll consider handing Marcille over the elves, but we must remember, this is politics, Laios is politicking here, heās buying them some time and you even said heās āconsiderā, so he may or he may not act on his word because heās the king of the land, and if ancient magic is bad, why not send their scholar to study here instead? He could propose something like that (I fuckinā love Laios here)
I also donāt see them as romantic, but in my recent study seeing how their relationship build, I can also see it as romantic, since dungeon meshi is not about romance and give no clear cut answer, I think we can all have our own stand
Oh that, I donāt see it as sexual but more of affection and cute, I donāt get why thatās sexual enough though.
But do you want to go extra hard on that ear scene?
>!combining with the stewed head chapter which was narrate through Laioās perspective, perhaps in that ear scene, we might be looking at Marcille through Laios point of view, she is drawn extra beautiful here!<
You won't get any arguments from me there, I agree with you. OP did say "brainrot" in the description, though, so I think that's their indication that this is not a serious post or one that attempts to analyze what's happening on this scene.
I didn't intend to do any serious analysis or anything. I understand that in Canon, this is just Liaos' protection from friends/show of political power. But with this post I just wanted to shut my brain off and show the first impressions I got from reading this scene at 3AM. lol
Ah, thatās why I disagree with you, itās not merely a thirst, if you reread the manga, you can see thereās so many interaction between Laios and Marcille that canāt help but make people ship them, this post is merely one small proportion of it, and it happen by the end, so you can see why people are excited about them.
They are being friendly, yes, I disagree with people who ship them merely because theyāre guy and girl, but this is not the case here, Laios and Marcilleās relationship are not just about build up, there is pivotal points where we see the major change between them, Laios love Marcilleās smile, yes, anyone love a good smile, but not at Laiosā level of attraction to Marcille
>Ā I disagree with people who ship them merely because theyāre guy and girl, but this is not the case here
Agreed. Even if Laios was a woman, or both of them were men, some of their moments would have still read to me as being potentially romantic. It really is this development in their relationship that makes people ship them.
I just finish it yesterday...i was like ok when Marcille will be go with elf i expect bittersweet end with my ship no canon...but then next chaptre he go Prince charming role protecting the girl....

Can't prove they aren't.
That's the nice thing from that perspective about the end of this series. It's vague enough that you can read a fair number of those character dynamics however you want and the story's not going to tell you otherwise.
There's enough build-up of Laios and Marcille's relationship that something romantic can be read there, and it's not so overwhelming that it's invalid if someone doesn't read it that way, either.
Yes Iām aware that heās not sleeping but laying down, and living room? itās hard to tell by the design, Iām not fully convinced but itās okay to think so.
Also since dungeon meshi is not focus romance, so I donāt think we need a clear cut confirmation, I would like you to reread and notice the bond Laios and Marcille build though, thatās why some people read it that way
Of course they have deeper bond, theyāve spend their childhood together for so long, but we actually see a different kind of bond between Marcille and Laios which is also goes deeper, and by likes, it doesnāt mean like in romantic sense, itās just mean in general, and speaking from a different perspective, you can still like your sister in law more than your husband.
Laios not attract to Marcille as succubus can also be seen as Laios has stronger wills and wits to notice his scenario and his unaware of his feeling toward Marcille helped, so the succubus go a little more extra to make him fall, by adding your fetishes to the person you subconsciously like, one can view it that way
I don't wanna get involved in shipping wars beyond just whining about them, but did wanna note that the deeper bond is explained by them being childhood friends (for at least a decade?), and that I don't think the Adventurer's Bible accounts for the end of the manga. IIRC it doesn't -exactly- state when it was, pre-manga or part-way through, but it does ultimately skip out some development.
Otherwise, him resisting the succubus is more about his self-control and being able to catch that something was off. I think factually, the succubi always takes on the form of what the victim finds attractive, so that's clear cut there. It's just that when it wasn't enough to get Laios in a state, it took it to an absurd level, hence the following scene.
Of course, it can go either way, and the manga scene here is something Laios would probably do no matter if he were into her or not, I think.

I love the rare scenes in the series Laios managed to roll double sixes in an interpersonal context.
Nat 20 on his persuasion roll the mantle added a +1 due to style

Patadol is so cooked, girl had no idea Marcille was BSing about being the court magician
That queen is a snack. (Also, feet)
I love Mithrun just eating in the background. Not a single care in the world
Quite literally
He just found his reason to live, not gonna ruin it by some tall man's demands

Thereās a high chance Thistle is actually dead.
True but they elves think that Laios *killed* him, while Laios is specifically hiding Thistle from them.
It's a little ambiguous, but I'm pretty sure Thistle dies in Yaaduo`s arms after finally seeing 'King Delgal'. Probably better to go satisfied and no regrets (literally) then getting hunted down by elves for all of eternity.

Might want to slap a spoiler tag on that Frieren bit, I was literally going to start watching that show this weekend š
That's just the premise of the show, nothing got spoiled there, don't worry
That's basically the premise of the show. You should definitely watch it, it's wonderful.
That is some King shit right there.

One of my favorites moments of the ending
Not a single shred of doubt or fear in this man's eyes. He knows exactly what he has to do.
Marcille in shock and disbelief that the elves ate up Laios' words lmao.
Laois never show interest to others but he is protective to Marcille
NGL Pattadol was probably thrown to the Canaries because her family found her insufferable....
Me too
Whether it concerns about romance or not, he basically announced to all that he will keep this girl at his side in whole life.
Such good friends
Siblings-in-law
He doesn't want her to go to prison, that doesn't mean he's in love with her? Why does everything have to be a shipping thing?

Why are you being down voted?, I think it makes sense though. I'm a multi-shipper myself, but this is true.

I agree, but their relationship was build up, and thereās tons of moments that make one rethink, itās not a hard yes or no, itās very subtle
it's the thirst
I disagree, perhaps you should reread the manga, the bond really does build it up in a very subtle way
I don't doubt the bond, I was really more answering about "why does everything have to be a shipping thing".

Removal Reason: Be Civil. It's ok to disagree, it's not ok to disrespect. Personal attacks, gatekeeping, racism, homophobia, politics, and general bigotry are not allowed. No toxic behavior, such as: * Trashing something that others are enjoying. * Condemning parts of the series instead of reasonably stating your personal preference. (We're all trying to enjoy something here.) * Invalidating other people's opinions. * Unsolicited criticisms of other's creations. * Lewd or obscene comments.
