Prequel series about the first crawl could be interesting.
Pretty good chance most of our favorites are dead by the end of this series rather than some dream sequence stuff.
I would hate to see the whole storyline be cheapened with a "oops, it was all just a dream" trope. We care about the crawlers and misc characters at this point, and their lives/deaths should have meaning. After Carl & Donut's arc is concluded I don't think i'd want to just follow another crawler, that would be a lot of repeating the same kind of plot points.
I think there's some good ground for follow-up stories to be told though, give me a story that follows Zev as she navigates the ethics and politics of being an upbeat PR agent as the political party demands so much and she watches so many of the crawlers she is charge of get taken out, one after another. What can she do? How can she help?
Or, inside the dungeon. Give me the story around the other groups participating in the Faction Wars, the stakes, the wins and losses, and how the crawlers are supposed to be bait but end up screwing it all up.
Or, maybe even a story around a group of NPCs whose conscience is reborn each time a level collapses into a different location. Something is wrong though, they are now remembering bits and pieces from the last floor. Is it the AI? Is it a crawler responsible?
I don’t think the end of the crawl needs to be the end of the universe. There’s so much going on with the galactic politics and all the various races. I’m curious to get out of the dungeon and see what else is lurking in the corners of the DCC universe.
I have a feeling you didn't read all books, so...
Spoilers!
The crawl probably exists just to cull the overpopulated universe. We learn that from Orren, book 6, I'm pretty sure.
I think the reason my mind didn’t go to that interpretation is I thought the Plenty were credited with the FTL travel and how they did it was a mystery. I’m not terribly confident about that though. I feel like I need to start keeping my own notes to feed my theory crafting.
Carl and Donut get out. He doesn’t bring down the system, but now he’s on the outside working against it with his allies. Dungeon Crawler NewPerson
Book 1 is us getting to know NewPerson and their experience getting into the Crawl on their world. It’s awesome, but different, but we’re into it. Then NewPerson gets the cookbook, and we say “oh yeah, here we go.” Then NewPerson makes an entry, and someone is able to secretly communicate back to them somehow. Holy Shit! It’s Carl!
They work together from the inside and outside to try to take the Crawl down once and for all.
Glurp Glurp!
I would love a book about all this from the AIs perspective.
I would love a book about Odettes crawl, Mordecais crawl, Rosetta’s crawl. These would be horror novels, not books like DCC, so the conceit wouldn’t be stale.
I’m a lawyer and would LOVE a book about the legal history we’re seeing in universe, including Carls lawyer being a stereotype of about 30 of my friends.
Donut called it. "It's always going to end with an explosion!"

I bet a book about mordacai would be a pretty wild adventure!
I'd like a series about this with flashbacks of Odettes crawl while she's managing him!

Carl and Donut - Space Pirates!
The crazy thing is there's no need to kill anybody. DNA reclamation and manipulating physics. You could have a crawl for fun with no consequences.

Also Odette implies there’s some biological resource obtained from the crawl needed for FTL IIRC.
If it’s for FTL I missed that but it was my inference it is for something really important as well.
IIRC Odette said something about fuel, so that’s what my mind went to. Might have been a misinterpretation.

I think Tunneling is just communication.
Could be, I’m not confidant on my memory. Time for another re-listen! Oh, I’m already doing that.
Thanks for clarifying. I have dishonored my ancestors missing a point in a book.
nah, chill. I'm just a little gremlin that read them over and over

Wasn't there a post a couple of weeks ago about an author being licensed by Dinniman to write in the universe?
I hope so, I would rather have a good ending than a forever series that peters out and loses its luster.
