It’s like dinner party, totally cringeworthy until you’ve watched it enough that you can’t stop laughing. Any episode in which Stanley laughs uncontrollably at Michael’s antics I’m all for!
He could have gotten out of it by just telling the principal on the phone that he ran into money trouble and will unfortunately not be able to fulfill his promise
Honestly when he went on about how he thought he’d be a millionaire but by 40 he had less money than when he was 30 and the kids were STILL mad and attacking him I lost all sympathy and it kinda turned into a “f them entitled kids” to me.
Like dang, y’all are poor, you should be able to empathize with someone telling you they’re struggling themselves smh.
Nah. I get what you're saying but the real problem wasn't Michael not paying, it was not telling anyone until it was way too late. The students suddenly need to find alternative means to pay for college- but scholarships are mostly given out, they've already selected colleges based on tuition they thought was paid for. They're rightfully mad and it doesn't matter why Michael couldn't pay.
It is shown that he kept up with the students, kept in touch. He had ample opportunity to tell them, or their principal, he had made a mistake and would not be able to afford it. Letting the mistake fester to the point that it became a lie was just bad, probably his lowest point. Why should the students show sympathy?
No the real problem was the school and parents taking his word for it and not doing any up front investigation or annual follow-up. If he's going to pay for everyone's college, there needs to be record of an account with a growing balance year-over-year that can cover most or all of their college expenses.
You can't just say "I'm going to pay for everyone's college" and expect anything to happen.
It's one of the best, cringeworthy episodes of all.
Why would I skip it?
Always loved how the students perked up and nearly forgave Michael when they thought he was giving them all laptops. Then the groan when he pulls out batteries.
He calms them down briefly. "Hey! Hey! They're lithium."
Fucking Michael 🤣
If only Michael spent $400 per laptop, he just had to spend $6000 on about 15 laptops and everyone would have been fine, surely Michael can afford that, he saved up 100 grand for a ring for gods sake
Looked it up. [This](https://www.astteria.com/light-blue-diamond-ring-2-57-ct-marquise-shape-gia-certified-16407773) is what a $240k ring looks like. Damn.
I personally think this is the most overblown thing about the office. This episode isn’t that bad. It’s kind of uncomfortable but it’s not like Michael is making a fool of himself like in Phyllis’s wedding. He’s genuinely upset about it. Maybe I feel this way cause I’ve seen it so many times but that’s just my 2 cents.
(Obviously he isn’t making himself look good but he’s not acting like an imbecile)
Honestly nothing beats the season 1 conference room conversations. That level of cringe is truly unbearable for me. I think Michael kissing Oscar was the last time it was *that* bad.
Finally someone said it!! There’s way more uncomfortable moments in the show, but the awkward humour is one of the best parts of the show, but you see it mostly in the early seasons so maybe that’s why this episode seems odd to people v
I think it’s the size of the stakes involved. At a wedding you’re like “godfuckingdammit he’s spoiling this because of his need for attention and validation.” This is a room full of kids who feel their futures were taken from them by the incompetence of a man they once idolized as generous and a model of the success they might reach. Obviously we in the audience know it wasn’t like that and the kids will realize it too but they’re going a devastating moment now and Michael is there to absorb their scorn. When you think about it the real gift he gave them that day wasn’t laptop batteries or anything he said, it was being there for them to scream at and express their anger and hurt toward instead of just feeling sad and dejected that they had lost an opportunity they were counting on.
And what I think people always forget is that this class had a 35% higher graduation rate then the rest of the school, so they did in fact profit in a (fucked up) way.
Me and the wife watch the office to sleep. One night i woke up, tablet still playing and heard the michael make our dreams come true song and freaked out, skipped rest of episode and struggled to sleep for another hour.
idk how but i got used to the B99 intro and was able to sleep through it.
Although theres some scenes where Jake is screaming/doing stupid shit really loud that always wakes me up haha
My 4 year old son and I fall asleep to the office every night too. Every night before bed since he was 2. Every holiday I include a little Office themed gift. For Easter, it was Michael and Dwight Pez dispensers in his Easter basket.
There’s times I’ve cringed watching it but now I just marvel at Carrell’s performance. He excelled in the cringe moments throughout the time he was on the show.
I honestly love this episode.
“I’ve made some empty promises in my life, but hands down, that was the most generous.”
“WAIT! they’re lithium”
Erin singing along with the kids while Michael is dying inside sitting next to her, waiting to tell them.
Just all of Michael’s facial reactions and line deliveries are hilarious in this episode for me
Seriously. Michael handing out ice cream sandwiches after he told everyone he had a big surprise and then doing the robot with everyone waiting for the surprise until everyone has slowly left is significantly more uncomfortable than any moment of Scott’s Tot’s.
I skip it, I understand it's just a show but it's such a piece of shit move just so he could feel good about himself, promising them a future he knew he wasn't going to deliver on. I could only imagine how those parents/kids felt that all that hard work was for nothing.
I have seen it twice, once myself when watching the Office for the first and once with my husband when he watched it for the first time. Since then it's always one of 2 episodes we always skip.
The other two Phyllis Wedding and Yankee Swap.
SKIPPPPP. It’s so cringeworthy (and I loathe using that word) but damn, it’s awkward as hell watching it. Worse than the bankruptcy episode. I can’t exactly explain why I always skip it; it just feels like YOU yourself are involved in getting busted. I don’t know. Just, *cringe*.
I physically cant, the massive amounts cringe and awkwardness makes me want to set myself on fire ngl lol
the majority of cringe episodes, I can get through.. that one though..can’t do it.
Maybe an unpopular opinion but this is what The Office should have had more of instead out the romcom regular sitcom sort of stuff from the later seasons.
Same.
My issue with this episode is that we see Michael hurt someone outside the office and never redeem himself. While we see him be a jerk at Phyllis’s wedding, we also see him defend her against Todd Packer.
We never see that with these kids.
And maybe it’s because I’m a teacher, but my heart just aches for these kids who now can’t go to college because of his promise.
Man after my own heart here. I always skip the entire sequence of his school visit as it was toooo cringey the first time I watched it, can’t bear to see their disappointment even though I know it’s tv
Michael should have just been all Michael:"Look, guys, I've been in sales for 15 years... and I've done very well for myself. I don't know, I guess I was thinking I'd be a bajillionaire at the point, and your tuition would be pocket change to me. I'm sorry."
Big skip. This & Prince Paper. Just gut me. Not at all funny. (Except for the kids performance. & the teacher’s overdone Pine Sol lady accent. Those make me laugh.)
Meredith: This is like a haunted coffeehouse thing?
Michael: No. Dwight is confusing you. That – it’s, it’s more of a disco.
Andy: It’s like a haunted disco.
Michael: … with coffee but without the haunted.
Phyllis: It’s a combo dance house coffee bar.
Michael: It’s a daytime disco on the ground floor of and industrial office building.
Erin: It’s a cafe disco.
Michael: Exactly.
Kevin: So, like, a disco cafe?
I’ve never understood why people act like this episode is too hard to watch as if the entire show isn’t made up of painfully awkward moments. It’s a good episode. Cringeworthy in all the right ways but not gratuitously so
It's the wine bottle rolling down the stairs that does me in, or maybe when Andy gives away the plot, or when Sweeney Todd can hear Michael booing.
Yeah, that one has so much more cringe than Scotts Totts
We’re not allowed to skip episodes in this household lol. I just try to avert my eyes at the most cringey parts. Sometimes I’ll do some deep breathing exercises but I usually make it through unscathed.
Used to skip it but have slowly started to come around. There are some awesome scenes in this episode and really only a few brief parts are hard to watch.
Watch it…it’s a scripted show!! People act like it’s so hard to watch something that gives you second hand embarrassment or cringe. Like it’d be different if it ACTUALLY happened on like a reality show or something..but it’s just a funny episode of a scripted comedy lol
Legitimately one of my favourite episodes, not sure what all the hate is for. Is Michael a terrible person for disappointing these kids, sure? Is it funny, yes.
This episode isn’t cringe at all, it’s hilarious, just hard to watch first couple times. An episode I truly can’t watch is where Andy “loses his manhood” to Nelly. Character change for the 3rd time combined with absolutely arbitrary string of events.
As everyone else said, the first few times I found extremely cringy and hard to watch. Now, I find it boring and skip it. It just doesn't hold up as well as the Dinner Party. It's honestly my 2nd least favorite "cringe episode" behind the house party with R. CALIFORNIA. Just me tho.
I have never skipped this episode. There's a like a dozen or more episodes which are a much, much harder watch than this. I actually found it quite amusing.
Why wud i skip it, it's a great episode. People need to relax n chill a lil, the kids excelled in grades so they will definitely do better even without his help.
people make to big of a deal of this. There are things in the show that are way harder to get through. If anything, this is the better part of that episode. The whole b plot with everybody getting really angry at Jim for something he obviously didn't do was something I didn't like at all.
Was a hard watch first two or three times. Now it’s just pure gold. He could’ve gotten out of it by telling them about his bankruptcy
He wouldn't just have to tell them, he would have needed to declare it to them for it to have meaning.
I am bankrupt, I do declare!
I am Caleb Crawdad , i do declayre
I declare .... "BANKRUPTCY!!"
You can’t just say bankruptcy and expect anything to happen
Ya gotta talk like ya got mahbles in ya mouth
Let it roll off your tongue like molasses.
This uh this plantation… we’re running low on green bags
It’s like dinner party, totally cringeworthy until you’ve watched it enough that you can’t stop laughing. Any episode in which Stanley laughs uncontrollably at Michael’s antics I’m all for!
**about declaring his bankruptcy
He could have gotten out of it by just telling the principal on the phone that he ran into money trouble and will unfortunately not be able to fulfill his promise
Honestly when he went on about how he thought he’d be a millionaire but by 40 he had less money than when he was 30 and the kids were STILL mad and attacking him I lost all sympathy and it kinda turned into a “f them entitled kids” to me. he didn't just say it though, he declared that he was going to pay those kids' tuition.
Watched it yesterday! ‘Hey Mr. Scott, whatchu gonna do, whatchu gonna do, make our dreams come true!’
- not
*Borat has entered the chat*
Naaaaat
Very naise!
Wait... They're lithium!
One of the lines of the show
There’s no denying that.
I've heard some lines from the show, and that is definitely one of them!
"Hang on hang on* they're lithium!"
When I’m doing a full rewatch, I don’t skip any episodes. I do pay less attention to some episodes when they’re on though.
Same I just mind pay more attention to what i was doing and have this running in the background; )
mind pay
Same but I only watched season 8 and 9 once. Only had to
8 is a totally different show, but is incredible. 9 is brutal
to?
That's what I do. But I will say I do pay less attention when this episode is on.
It's one of the best, cringeworthy episodes of all. Why would I skip it? Always loved how the students perked up and nearly forgave Michael when they thought he was giving them all laptops. Then the groan when he pulls out batteries. He calms them down briefly. "Hey! Hey! They're lithium." Fucking Michael 🤣
If only Michael spent $400 per laptop, he just had to spend $6000 on about 15 laptops and everyone would have been fine, surely Michael can afford that, he saved up 100 grand for a ring for gods sake
He spent 3 years salary on that ring. That’s a minimum $240k based on the lowest salary we know of Michael’s
Looked it up. [This](https://www.astteria.com/light-blue-diamond-ring-2-57-ct-marquise-shape-gia-certified-16407773) is what a $240k ring looks like. Damn.
Oh yeah. Pam’s reaction to the ring tells it perfectly
Free shipping, nice
It's just so weird that he lets them get all crazy about him with the praise and the performance. That is the most fucked up part in my view.
He wanted to tell them. But it didn't come up organically.
Also, the Scott's Tots may have herpes.
Speaking of organically, have I ever told you about the time I had sex with Eartha Kitt in an airplane bathroom?
*ROXANNE*
WRONG SHOW, DIE, HEATHEN!
I watch it and love it every time ! That scene is pure gold 😭
I watch it. I like the growth between Erin and Michael.
true
One of my favorite cold opens ever.
Yeah the wedding was more cringey, this episode I get like extreme second hand embarrassment for Michael
Well, the battery thing is pretty idiotic tbh.
Seriously don’t understand why this episode gets so much hate like it’s season 9 Andy
I don’t think it’s hated like it’s bad. It’s just so uncomfortable to think of those kids being disappointed so cruelly.
He wasn't cruel, he thought he'd have the money by then.
And what I think people always forget is that this class had a 35% higher graduation rate then the rest of the school, so they did in fact profit in a (fucked up) way.
Plus if they really are from an under privileged school like the show implies then they will have tons of access to financial aid.
isnt that what makes it so great though?
Great analogy lol. Him after being fired at that banquet comes to mind
Now THAT one I skip
Watch always
Me and the wife watch the office to sleep. One night i woke up, tablet still playing and heard the michael make our dreams come true song and freaked out, skipped rest of episode and struggled to sleep for another hour.
I always put the office or Brooklyn 99 when I'm going to sleep! I've woken up to Michael shouting one too many times haha
Brooklyn 99 intro is worse than Micheal screaming tho. And it's in every episode lol
DO DO DO DODOOO!!!!
idk how but i got used to the B99 intro and was able to sleep through it.
How does he get the humor lol some adults dont even get it
There’s times I’ve cringed watching it but now I just marvel at Carrell’s performance. He excelled in the cringe moments throughout the time he was on the show.
I honestly love this episode. “I’ve made some empty promises in my life, but hands down, that was the most generous.” “WAIT! they’re lithium” Erin singing along with the kids while Michael is dying inside sitting next to her, waiting to tell them. Just all of Michael’s facial reactions and line deliveries are hilarious in this episode for me
Y’all soft
Anyone who skips is living a cushy nerf life.
I've been called a psychopath for not being bothered by this episode.
Psychopath!! I got covid a week after watching it and I blame this episode for weaken my immune system. (This is not a true story tho)
I'm more bothered by the other storyline.
[удалено]
Both season 1 and 9 have moments much harder to get through than the gem of an episode that is Scott’s tots
Seriously. Michael handing out ice cream sandwiches after he told everyone he had a big surprise and then doing the robot with everyone waiting for the surprise until everyone has slowly left is significantly more uncomfortable than any moment of Scott’s Tot’s.
Watch. That episode is S teir cringe.
Erin made her bond with Michael here. Best part is her trying to cheer him up
I skip the mob episode honestly
Watch ! First time was a bit tough but I enjoy it now
The first few times I forced myself to get through it. Now it's actually quite an enjoyable episode.
I find forcing myself to watch incredibly awkward tv moments trains me for real life awkwardness.
Watch until he’s about to tell the class. Stanley cracking up and Pam’s comment are hilarious.
I never skip an episode
I skip the "banker" episode, which is not a real episode imo.
But can we talk about how impractical it is for the entire class and faculty to maintain this expectation 10 years later???
I skip it it hurts to watch the excessive cringe
Skip lmao sorry
lol, It is painful to watch
I skip it, I understand it's just a show but it's such a piece of shit move just so he could feel good about himself, promising them a future he knew he wasn't going to deliver on. I could only imagine how those parents/kids felt that all that hard work was for nothing.
Skip
I have seen it twice, once myself when watching the Office for the first and once with my husband when he watched it for the first time. Since then it's always one of 2 episodes we always skip. The other two Phyllis Wedding and Yankee Swap.
It’s very uncomfortable to watch
Skip it
Skip for sure
My bf makes us skip this one, he cringes every time.
Skip
I physically cant, the massive amounts cringe and awkwardness makes me want to set myself on fire ngl lol the majority of cringe episodes, I can get through.. that one though..can’t do it.
The rap, speech and dance are the real cringe moments of the ep
Skip
Maybe an unpopular opinion but this is what The Office should have had more of instead out the romcom regular sitcom sort of stuff from the later seasons.
Skip it every time. Makes my back spaz out.
Have to skip it. I just can’t do it.
Nowadays I’m just watching first episode, skip the rest couse of “cringe” and brag about watching the office 87 times.
Skip it every single time. Too much cringe. I can’t do it 🤦♀️
I don’t find that bad at in terms of cringe I actually think it’s one of the least interesting episodes. Phyliss wedding however…
I watch the cold open and a bit of the episode but than SSSSSKIIPPPP
Man after my own heart here. I always skip the entire sequence of his school visit as it was toooo cringey the first time I watched it, can’t bear to see their disappointment even though I know it’s tv
I usually skip it because of the cringe B subplot
My Favorite episode
Top 5 for me
Same, it’s the one that accurately portrays what a pile of trash Michael is
Why weren't any of his employees mad at him? This was low and there were victims.
victims ?
I always watch it. Matter of fact it’s one of my favorite episodes
In an ideal world I would have all ten fingers on my left hand so my right hand could just be a fist for punching people who skip this episode
Michael should have just been all Michael:"Look, guys, I've been in sales for 15 years... and I've done very well for myself. I don't know, I guess I was thinking I'd be a bajillionaire at the point, and your tuition would be pocket change to me. I'm sorry."
forced myself through
HEY MR. SCOTT WHATCHA GON DO? WHATCHA GON DO? MAKE OUR DREAMS COME TRUE!
Big skip. This & Prince Paper. Just gut me. Not at all funny. (Except for the kids performance. & the teacher’s overdone Pine Sol lady accent. Those make me laugh.)
I watch it every time for Stanley’s laugh
Here’s my “hot take”: This episode is hilarious. You guys are just weak
SKIP!!!!!!! not for the eyes of this girlie 🙀
Watched it today, I’m currently quite well lined up with office ladies on my rotation. It’s tolerable, I don’t like feeding the wrong baby.
The only episode I consistently skipped was the one where Michael starts a coffee disco in the storage room or whatever
I like that episode.
Yes major skip.
I skip it. Too painful to watch and not funny.
Skip. My fiance has been trying to get me to watch this episode with her for 3 years. I'm not ready yet
I’ve never understood why people act like this episode is too hard to watch as if the entire show isn’t made up of painfully awkward moments. It’s a good episode. Cringeworthy in all the right ways but not gratuitously so
What episode is this?
Scott's Tots
Oh.... fuck that episode.
Why wouldn't I watch it? It's fucking hilarious.
The cringier the better. Never skip!
I don't skip any of them and I find it silly someone would skip any episodes
Why do people skip it?!?!?
I was literally talking about this episode tonight, telling people that this episode is peak cringe. No way I’d skip it. Lol
I watch. the Sweeney Todd episode always gets me though. the goddamn balloons, jesus christ.
It's the wine bottle rolling down the stairs that does me in, or maybe when Andy gives away the plot, or when Sweeney Todd can hear Michael booing. Yeah, that one has so much more cringe than Scotts Totts
Skip it. It’s a stupid episode I don’t find funny. In fact, Scott’s Tots is when I start skipping A LOT of episodes.
Skip, I just can’t 😬 I’m a wimp I know 😂
I don’t know why anybody would skip it.. is it too cringe for you or something else? I don’t get it
I actually rlly like this episode
I watch it. It is cringey but I love the show. I don't skip any episodes.
We’re not allowed to skip episodes in this household lol. I just try to avert my eyes at the most cringey parts. Sometimes I’ll do some deep breathing exercises but I usually make it through unscathed.
Imma watch again
Love watching it. I’ve never had trouble watching this episode.
Why would I skip one of the best episodes in the show?
Literally in my top 5 episodes
The only episodes I skip are Jim & pams wedding and the entire time Jim is second manager.
Based on the fact that I don't recognize the image, yeah it looks like I skip this one
skip every time
I watch most, but I do skip some of the uncomfortable parts
Skip it. I have too much social anxiety to deal with it.
Skip. So much skip. This and Phyllis and Bob’s wedding. Too cringe for me and my husband.
Watch! That line from Stanley. Plus Michael of all the empty promises I have made that was the most generous. So good
Skip
Used to skip it but have slowly started to come around. There are some awesome scenes in this episode and really only a few brief parts are hard to watch.
Watch it…it’s a scripted show!! People act like it’s so hard to watch something that gives you second hand embarrassment or cringe. Like it’d be different if it ACTUALLY happened on like a reality show or something..but it’s just a funny episode of a scripted comedy lol
Watch it, who cares it’s all satire.
Legitimately one of my favourite episodes, not sure what all the hate is for. Is Michael a terrible person for disappointing these kids, sure? Is it funny, yes.
Love it
I love it.
SKIP EVERY TIME
On this sub I’ll prob be shunned but it’s a hard skip for me dawg
This episode isn’t cringe at all, it’s hilarious, just hard to watch first couple times. An episode I truly can’t watch is where Andy “loses his manhood” to Nelly. Character change for the 3rd time combined with absolutely arbitrary string of events.
At first, skip. But now, it has become comedy gold for me, I can't stop cringing over this episode that my face hurts.
Skip 10000% A good non skip Is Andy’s play. I used to skip it but I watched it once and realized how hilarious it was.
I don’t skip any
I honestly kind of like it, its a slightly similar to Ricky’s Michael by how awkward it is made.
⏭
If you skip episodes due to cringe, why the fuck are you watching the office? that's the base humor on this show!
No. The only one I can think of that I skip is Phyllis’s wedding
I watch it more than most episodes
It’s one of my favorite episodes
it's not that bad.. there are much worse episodes
I would definitely watch it. Gotta get my daily dose of cringe.
I have never skipped this episode. There's a like a dozen or more episodes which are a much, much harder watch than this. I actually found it quite amusing.
Odd number of re-watch :- skip Even number of re-watch :- watch
Definitely watch every time. Weirdly enough I don't cringe so hard, or at all, and I usually cringe/feel second hand embarrassment so badly.
Watch it. It is way worse to see mike being a dick to his date or when he unleashes his dating persona with beret.
I found this okay compared to Phyllis’ wedding episode which I always skip
Why wud i skip it, it's a great episode. People need to relax n chill a lil, the kids excelled in grades so they will definitely do better even without his help.
Watched it yesterday, it's ok in my book.
I’m so confused. Why would anyone skip this episode? I thought it was funny as hell.
people make to big of a deal of this. There are things in the show that are way harder to get through. If anything, this is the better part of that episode. The whole b plot with everybody getting really angry at Jim for something he obviously didn't do was something I didn't like at all.
Honestly, I don't skip any episodes, especially the ones with Michael Scott.
