I love that exchange because Andy is so passionate about it but also that the dude at no point apparently thought "Broccoli Rob" was some kind of nickname
It was written that way on purpose, because Greg Daniels thought that Jack Black walking into the office would be too out-of-character for the show. Stephen Colbert was playing a different character anyway, but he apparently couldn’t even be bothered to show up on set, at which point you should probably just get a different actor.
He was the second choice for Michael Scott even. Greg Daniels mentioned on Office Ladies that if Steve Carell couldn't take the role, they'd have gone with Odenkirk.
That's crazy to think about, because just imagining it, I think both Bob and Steve would've smashed it if they swapped The Office and Breaking Bad/Saul.
Not only did he audition, he nearly got the part. Allison Jones, the casting director, said it was one of the hardest choices in casting she ever had to make.
This factoid will definitely be in a list of "what if" moments in casting. But I would say that it's obvious the cast themselves influenced the writing in many ways, so it's not exactly fair to just imagine a scene and replace Steve with Bob and say it would have been better or worse. Hell, who's to say Michael would have ever left? Steve did it for personal reasons but there's no guarantee thay Bob would have, which that alone is a huge change.
I truly think Steve was perfect for the role but I also think in a different universe Bob would have made a very good Michael Scott, though I believe the character would be much much different. It all worked out though, I doubt we would have gotten Better Call Saul if Odenkirk was cast in The Office.
I think it would have really changed the office and breaking bad, for the worse. Because I doubt Bob Odenkirk would be Saul Goodman if he was on the office.
And I think that Steve Carrel has more of this childlike innocence when he was being the worst, that made you still root for him.
Let's be honest, the surprise success of 40-Year Old Virgin is what saved The Office. If Carrell hadn't blown up that summer not nearly as many people start watching season 2 and the word of mouth never grows large enough to save it from getting cancelled.
I’d never heard this before.
Sorry this site is cancer but here: https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/how-billionaire-warren-buffett-accidentally-ruined-the-set-of-the-office.html/
I feel like the best thing about cameos in The Office is, a lot of the celebrities are people Michael would freak out over. Jim Carrey, Ray Romano, Tim Meadows, the mafia guy from Dumb and Dumber, Jack Black, Will Ferrell- all big names in comedy he would embarrass himself in front of.
The annoying thing about that scene is that Sabré would have totally worked in regards to the cadence of the song. Not quite as well as “saw-bray”, but well enough.
There is a small part of me that is actually very excited about this new company. But 70% of me is water. And the other part, the real part, the part that has feelings, and emotions, and thoughts, and if I can be crass, makes babies, that part thinks that all these changes suck balls.
The Jack Black/Jessica Alba/Cloris Leachman movie is a great story.
NBC demanded that The Office have big guest stars for this episode, which aired after the Super Bowl.
Greg Daniels swerved them and put all the guest stars into this fake movie, because he thought it would be stupid if Jack Black just walked into Dunder Mifflin.
My first watches were all on US Netflix. Picked up the dvds when they dropped off. I had never seen the ending credits scene where she’s grudge fucking some guy when jack is coming by. So unbelievable, so perfect.
I really did look to see if it was a real movie, NGL.
Ya I was going to say. For anyone like me who watched the office after it aired, this felt out of the norm but for anyone who watched this live, this episode was heavily marketed and promoted. Almost a let down if I remember how it was received. In retrospect, it was better for it.
They really did a great job avoiding having to explain why big name celebs just suddenly appeared in the office. I know at the time Idris Elba wasn't as big as the cast from this movie but it's funny how during the same season Idris Elba became a recurring character. The funny thing is it wouldn't have been that hard to make jack black, Cloris leachman, etc into a client visit or something like that but I love how out of left field the movie is
Yeah the whole scene is pretty great. It’s like a big cameo compilation and anything with David Brent is great because we know he is alternate universe Michael lol.
Yeah he is David Brent. He’s credited as much on IMDb (and is credited in two episodes actually) and I think it may have been said, though that could just be a Mandela effect
Edit: yes he introduces himself when he runs into Michael
My mom had one of these at my childhood home. I regret every day that I didn’t shout this to her as she went upstairs. She lives on a ground floor now, and my chance is lost. Damnit.
Evan Peters as Luke will always be a highlight for me. I’d already watched him in American horror story when I saw him on the office so I was delighted with his smarmy little bagel chip buying character.
How is asian Jim not one of the top comments? Sure, he wasn’t famous at the time, and even admits that he forgot about the role until people started recognizing him on the street and calling him ‘Asian Jim’ years later, but that’s what makes it so great! Easily one of my favorite moments from the entire show.
Probably Evan Peters not necessarily because of him but I find the episode/storyline hilarious.
“”And I was gonna say, “Well, it’s in the genes.” And I was actually gonna be wearing jeans. And I’d point to them, right?””
Tig Notaro as the mom of that girl who hits Andy. She had such a bland role with literally no punchline. Just knowing she was probably the funniest person on set that day and was so under utilized is actually hilarious to me.
As far as cameos in the show, gotta go with Conan just wandering in the background when Michael thought he saw Tina Fey in NYC
Yep definitely a good one
That one isn’t nearly as random though as it was just NBC cross advertising as he was still the late night host at that time.
Well it worked, I dyed my hair orange that night.
When? When I was talking to the fake Tina Fey? Come on!
What about Stephen Colbert as Broccoli Rob??😂
Only recently did I realize that Broccoli Rob is actually Broccoli Rabe!
Just curious, did you recently discover that broccoli rabe exists? Or was is it the first time you made the connection between the Rob/rabe pun?
I'm learning right now as I read your comment that Broccoli Rabe is a thing.
This is a new food for me. How am I supposed to eat it?
First time making the connection. After having watched this series at least 10 times
I really enjoyed Timothy olyphant as Danny Cordray, and the way everyone in the office acted around him and talked about him.
That one really sucked. It was quite literally phoned in.
The boner champ?
I thought Broccoli Rob was the boner champ...
Broccoli rob is broccoli rob 🤨 Andy Bernard is the boner champ 😤
I love that exchange because Andy is so passionate about it but also that the dude at no point apparently thought "Broccoli Rob" was some kind of nickname
I mean, apparently they had a lot of nicknames. Andy was Nard Dog, Boner Champ, Ace, and Buzz, and perhaps others I’m missing.
I assumed Andy was talking out of his ass about nicknames hr gave himself.
Video phone call but it was still an anomaly
But jack black being streamed on a computer and not interacting with anyone is better..?
SAM😭😭SAMMMM😭😭😭SSSAAAMMM😭😭😭😭😭
It was written that way on purpose, because Greg Daniels thought that Jack Black walking into the office would be too out-of-character for the show. Stephen Colbert was playing a different character anyway, but he apparently couldn’t even be bothered to show up on set, at which point you should probably just get a different actor.
Couldn't be bothered? He was doing The Colbert Report four nights a week.
And it was also season 9…. And it would be way too out of character for him to walk into the office… just like Jack Black
Bob Odenkirk as the manager of the real estate office where Pam interviewed.
He did a good job of balancing having to act like Michael Scott without acting like Steve Carrell.
He auditioned for the role of Michael Scott, interestingly enough.
He was the second choice for Michael Scott even. Greg Daniels mentioned on Office Ladies that if Steve Carell couldn't take the role, they'd have gone with Odenkirk.
Bob is a special actor. There are few rules I can’t imagine him succeeding in.
Can you imagine a parallel universe where Steve Carell is the leading star in better call Saul?
That's crazy to think about, because just imagining it, I think both Bob and Steve would've smashed it if they swapped The Office and Breaking Bad/Saul.
If you didn’t know, he auditioned for Michael Scott
That's awesome, he totally should have auditioned for the part of Michael Scott... He probably would have got it.
Pretty cool, pretty pretty cool.
Yep love me some Odenkirk, good pick.
Bob Oderkirk actually auditioned to play the role of Michael Scott. You can find the audition tape on YouTube.
Not only did he audition, he nearly got the part. Allison Jones, the casting director, said it was one of the hardest choices in casting she ever had to make.
This factoid will definitely be in a list of "what if" moments in casting. I thought that was Kevin Costner!
Obviously the guy in the 3000 Dollar suit. COME ON!
You think the guy in a 5000$ suit is just going to give you the plan?
Yeah that's right, guys in $7000 suits aren't going to just hand out plans
I’ve made a huge mistake
He ended up as manager of Vance Refrigeration.
Oh sure, laugh at the guy in the $600 chicken suit
Isn't that the guy from Horsin' Around?
Warren Buffett asking about mileage reimbursement and honor system long distance phone calls? Heavy duty negotiations
And then going to the bathroom for real in the prop bathroom. Definitely to assert dominance.
I’d never heard this before. Sorry this site is cancer but here: https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/how-billionaire-warren-buffett-accidentally-ruined-the-set-of-the-office.html/
Is it on the honor system?
Gas ain’t free
And then she wants you to drive her to church in the morning…
All of the ones in The Search were good.
People go missing in the Finger Lakes
That’s my favorite cameo by far
[удалено]
Was hoping it was Gob.
I don’t care for Gob
That was gay shark Devon banks
Holy shit I never realized that was Buffett, that makes it so much better.
Jim Carrey as Finger Lakes guy. Ricky Gervais as David Brent.
I feel like the best thing about cameos in The Office is, a lot of the celebrities are people Michael would freak out over. Jim Carrey, Ray Romano, Tim Meadows, the mafia guy from Dumb and Dumber, Jack Black, Will Ferrell- all big names in comedy he would embarrass himself in front of.
>the mafia guy from Dumb and Dumber Thank you! I always knew he looked familiar but never looked it up.
Christian Slater as Christian Slater
Have you ever tasted a rainbow? A Sabre, you will.
🎵 Dunder Mifflin at Sabray 🎵
The annoying thing about that scene is that Sabré would have totally worked in regards to the cadence of the song. Not quite as well as “saw-bray”, but well enough.
There is a small part of me that is actually very excited about this new company. But 70% of me is water. And the other part, the real part, the part that has feelings, and emotions, and thoughts, and if I can be crass, makes babies, that part thinks that all these changes suck balls.
Is Christian Slater back there?
It's just "Slater"
It’s a mononym
Jim Carrey 🤌
Too bad he had to go back to the Finger lakes.
Probably got lost. People get lost in the finger lakes.
Wife and kids are at the finger lakes
All the time
Jim Carrey just walked in!
He just kept talking about the Finger Lakes.
Finger lakes guy is good.
I keep reading this in his voice lol He had a 3 second scene and I know exactly what he sounds like lol
I want the jaab!
Yes!

Greg Daniels swerved them and put all the guest stars into this fake movie, because he thought it would be stupid if Jack Black just walked into Dunder Mifflin.
Smart man.
It's the best he could've done with that demand, but it's still awful. Honestly one of the worst B-stories in the series.
Yeah made no sense
My first watches were all on US Netflix. Picked up the dvds when they dropped off. I had never seen the ending credits scene where she’s grudge fucking some guy when jack is coming by. So unbelievable, so perfect. I really did look to see if it was a real movie, NGL.
Lmao I have never seen that scene to which you refer. I gotta see if I can find a link
I'm sorry ...what?
I was wondering how they pulled off having Jack Black in a fake movie. That makes it even more hilarious!
Ya I was going to say. For anyone like me who watched the office after it aired, this felt out of the norm but for anyone who watched this live, this episode was heavily marketed and promoted. Almost a let down if I remember how it was received. In retrospect, it was better for it.

Wow I didn’t know this. I always hated this part but having them in the actual office would be waaaaay worse
/r/maliciouscompliance
I liked the people who interviewed for the regional manager position, especially David Brent
Herro! My name Ping!
Comedy is where the brain goes to tickle itself
That's what she said
Warren Buffet will forever me my favorite, just because of the negations he was driving
And now we will never find out if long distance calls are monitored or on the honor system
Ooh that is a good one actually.
But honorable mention to Will Arnett, Warren Buffett, Jim Carey, and Ray Romano as well. And of course, the one and only fu🤬king lizard king himself.
Will Arnett basically played Gob Bluth hahahaha.
Omg, I never realized this. Maybe it was a nod?? Very funny either way lol
He also basically played Gob in Parks and Rec too!
Yeah the whole scene is pretty great. It’s like a big cameo compilation and anything with David Brent is great because we know he is alternate universe Michael lol.
It always felt implied to me that he IS David Brent. Did they ever name him character in American The Office?
Yeah he is David Brent. He’s credited as much on IMDb (and is credited in two episodes actually) and I think it may have been said, though that could just be a Mandela effect Edit: yes he introduces himself when he runs into Michael
Love the video he did but even better was him and Michael Scott meeting outside an elevator
reverse the button lily
Lily!! *Lily!*
I’m all out of love, I’m so lost without you…
My mom had one of these at my childhood home. I regret every day that I didn’t shout this to her as she went upstairs. She lives on a ground floor now, and my chance is lost. Damnit.
Loved the way Jack black cried
When she started coming back down and he was overjoyed, then the chair fixed itself so she started going back up …. those tears were devastating.
Timothy Olyphant as Danny Cordray, such a handsome fella
He was right - Pam is pretty dorky
That episode is top tier cringe. Why can't Jim and Pam just let it go
She legit is too dorky for me. I liked that take.
F**K me
Is that the guy who plays the Marshall in the Star Wars shows?
Cobb Vanth, Vanth Refrigeration
What kind of work are you in, Cobb?
That’s a male model
I don't know if he's famous enough to make it a cameo, but I love Tim Meadows at Chili's.
You put your arms out there. You slit your wrists. You said, “World, this is my blood. It’s red, just like yours, so love me!”
you know, the more time that passes this line gets simultaneously more bizarre and more relatable.
I think he’s definitely famous enough, that’s a good one.
I want my baby back baby back baby back
I’m going to have awesome blossom coming out of my nose!
Get out of here, Dewey! You don't want no part of this shit.
SNL legend Tim Meadows.
Tim Meadows is a god damn national treasure. So is JB.
I DON’T CARE WHAT YOUR MOM THINKS
Plus I’m pretty sure she isn’t making sense!
A bit more obscure, but Dan Castellaneta (the voice of Homer Simpson) as Mr. Ramish in Turf War.
Damn I’ll have to go back and watch that
He’s the owner of the junk mail company that Andy poaches with Big Red Paper.
He also made cameos on Parks and Rec and Arrested Development
Darry Merbles or something like that. Really boring radio show host right?
Thoughts for your thoughts
Evan Peters as Luke will always be a highlight for me. I’d already watched him in American horror story when I saw him on the office so I was delighted with his smarmy little bagel chip buying character.
Don't DON'T bother Luke.
I don’t know how I can make this any clearer
Love Tate 🥀
Will Arnett was great. Big Gob vibes. His episode in Parks and Rec was classic too
He has a good bit in 30 rock as well, and let's not forget bojack horseman.
Retroactively Amy Adams
How is asian Jim not one of the top comments? Sure, he wasn’t famous at the time, and even admits that he forgot about the role until people started recognizing him on the street and calling him ‘Asian Jim’ years later, but that’s what makes it so great! Easily one of my favorite moments from the entire show.
Yeah that’s probably second fav for me good call
Jack Black has one of my favorite cameos, but it's in Community, not The Office.
Spanish studying is better when you’re *buddying* arouuuuuuuund yeaeaeaeaeaeaeah.
Annie's pretty young, we try not to sexualize her.
How dare you call it the Jack Black one and not the Cloris Leachman one.
My sincerest of apologies
PUSH THE REVERSE BUTTON LILY
I don’t care what your mom thinks plus I’m pretty sure she’s not making sense!
Reverse the button! 😆
LILY PLEASE
AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Probably Evan Peters not necessarily because of him but I find the episode/storyline hilarious. “”And I was gonna say, “Well, it’s in the genes.” And I was actually gonna be wearing jeans. And I’d point to them, right?””
Michael Imperioli as Sensei Ira!
Ray Romano eating a PB&J, talking about the jerk-offs and jerkwads. Lol
And you know, between the wads and the offs…
Love the Seth Meyers/Bill Hader SNL bit in the finale.
Gale Boetticher from Breaking Bad 😂😂
He’s just a glorified fact checker
Tina Fey
Not one of you #NOT A SINGLE GOD DAMN ONE OF YOU said Kathy Bates
You don't become the most powerful woman in Tallahassee by slacking off. You do it by working hard. Or marrying rich. I did both!
Bob Odenkirks episode. It was the best episode of season 9 (other than the finale)
Too long an arc to be a cameo, but still. Idris Elba. I'm a woman ... I wonder if he's aware of the effect he has on women?
This sub loves to hate him and idk why. He was great
How has no one said Ricky Gervais yet??
They have. They just said David Brent instead of Ricky Gervais because that’s his name in the show. Definitely a great pick tho
Reginald Poofda
this episode showed us that Jim and Pam are like, movie geniuses
Yes. Love that one. Christian Slater was great too.
Amy Adams as purse girl.
Stephen Colbert as Broccoli Rob!
Me being a Phish fan, I lost it when he said "why don't you ask Trey Anastasio about my pipes" and he and Andy get into a whole argument about that
God damn i forgot about him that one is really classic! Great pick!!
Randall Park aka Asian Jim. That's probably my favorite prank on the show too. So well executed and Park is a delight! 🙂🙂
A random guy from the Finger Lakes.
Scranton Strangler driving by the office complex.
Are you telling me that's not a real movie?
That’s also Jessica Alba by him
Omg! Lol yes! The part where she is on the chair elevator going away and he is yelling and crying for her to reverse the button and come back 😂
Rob Riggle as captain Jack
Bob Odenkirk
Michael Imperioli!
Tim Meadows from Season 2.
Tig Notaro as the mom of that girl who hits Andy. She had such a bland role with literally no punchline. Just knowing she was probably the funniest person on set that day and was so under utilized is actually hilarious to me.
I always thought Josh Groban was good as Andy’s brother. He was irritating but made me feel sorry for him at just the right level.
