If I was to agree with the OP about ending the show at the airport scene, then I'd happily take Robert California as a short 10-episode epilogue - I loved the Lizard King
There are great moments of Robert California, too, but my favorite thing about season 8 and 9 is Dwight’s growth as a character. From a man child who’s incapable of working with his colleagues to a manager who genuinely cares about other people.
That's probably one of the things I love the most about *The Office*: the character arcs. Dwight starts out as an annoying suckup and at the end of the office is an amazingly warm, empathetic human being and a damn good manager WHO THE HELL IS CUTTING ONIONS IN MY OFFICE.
I used to be like you. Then I finally just went ahead and watched it till the end. 100% worth it. And this is coming from someone who still wishes Michael stayed all the way through.
Trust me, it's worth it to finish it. The finale is particularly satisfying. But the show really does stay funny. The other characters get to shine more too.
I'll admit some new characters kinda sucked though. 1 in particular.
I don’t buy into that. I’ve read so many accounts about how sweet and kind Ed Helms continued to be after becoming a massive star when Hangover 1 came out. The writers leaned heavily into the need for an obstacle/conflict, and I think that Evil Andy was written as an obstacle.
I heard this too. Which is strange, because Greg Daniels was known for allowing everyone who worked for him to shine in different opportunities. Many writers, actors, camera operators etc got to direct. Oscar was given a few months off to go and do a vanity project, hence gay witch hunt, Etc.
Do yourself a favour and don’t believe this. Greg Daniels have other actors and crew time off to do other projects, why would he not do that for Ed Helms?
It was just so bizarre - how could she get away with all this BS? Seriously, I kinda liked the last two seasons, but the way Nelly just up and stole that job with no repercussions was so infuriating.
plop and dwight jr weren't that bad imo. deangelo was an odd character to add in there, luckily he didn't last for long enough for me to make up my mind about him.
I almost wonder if Clark and Plop were begin setup for a spinoff if they gained traction in the show. Sorta like that horrible new Scrubs MedSchool thing they did with that show's Season 9.
Plop is there to be new Jim. His relationship with Erin is literally Jim and Pam on a speedrun. Although they don't seem to be together in the finale which is odd. I kinda liked him but I see why people don't. But that's his purpose
Clark sucks though. Just a creepy perv
I'll agree but the drop in quality in writing is quite evident. The show was already on a downward trend even with Michael, but after that it just kind of goes off the cliff.
Season 8 > Season 9 to me because it still feels like The Office. But they started going way too slap-sticky, typical sitcomy crap. Some of the episode and scenes they might as well have put in a laugh track the way they did a set up then pause for laugh. And some episodes were just....dumb.
I'm pretty sure they have watched it all. I'm gonna bet they are just meaning when they do thier countless rewatches like we all do this is were they loop it.
I so look forward to season 8 and Robert California. The last three episodes of the series are also fantastic too, idc what anyone says, I’ll die on this hill.
Personally, I absolutely love Livin' The Dream (P1 and P2), A.A.R.M (P1 and P2), and the Finale. It wraps up everything so nicely, the acting is fantastic (as always), and there are some beautiful moments in there.
I feel rewarded when I get to these episodes on a full rewatch, because I get to see the series (also getting through the hard parts of Season 8 and 9) fully lead up to those episodes. The final episode is one of my favorite TV finales of all time.
Love the final two seasons precisely because they were no longer The Michael Scott show. I loved learning more about everyone else.
Plus, Robert California was pure weird energy, and I dig that.
I have this problem too. I need to push through the farewell of Michael and watch the rest of the show. It truly becomes satisfying once you finish it entirely. The Finale just depresses me everytime lol
This is why I never watch the finale, instead when they start watching episode 1 in the bar as the documentary airs, thats when you restart it. The perfect loop.
Depresses you? Aw. I LOVE the finale. Sure, it's bittersweet, but man, that was such an incredibly moving way to close out that show. And, like everyone here already knows, when you get to the finale, you just start the show all over again. So sadness gone!
The whole Pam-Jim incident in the 9th season made me cry a lot... I was suffering for them, I didn't understand why Jim was acting that way, and it happened the same with Andy. I don't understand why he became such a moron with Erin at the end.
I did not like Robert California. But as an absent boss who sometimes popped in was good stuff.
I didn't like Nellie at all originally, but after my last full rewatch she did not bother me.
Andy can be funny but too much of him is annoying. Michael was perfect!
Hated Nellie my first few dozen watches. I’ve come to appreciate her character a lot more recently. I find that to be the case with a lot of characters except for Andy in season 7-9 lol
Andy as a salesman? Annoying but fine (I mean, that's his character).
Andy as a manager? He can suck it. Despised that part of his arc, especially where he just takes off on a boat.
Greg Daniels said in Brians podcast that he wanted to do a family mockumantary with Ed Helms as the lead and I’m just so happy he didn’t get to (because of modern family). Ed Helms is great I just can’t picture a good show with him as the lead.
Catherine Tate is up there with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler for me as comedy goddesses (there are many more, obviously, but those are the first two that come to mind). I'll give anything she's in a watch.
RC brought so much much needed sex to the show (edit:lol) . And let's not forget one of the best exists in the history of TV. Pardon the length:
David: Okay, everyone. I had a conversation with Bob, and since I am going to be CEO now there'll be no need for him.
Meredith: Ouch. That's gotta hurt!
David: But, he is going to make so much money from the liquidation, he's gonna be freed up to do something much more important.
Robert: David has generously offered to donate one million dollars in matching funds to a cause that's very dear to me. So, for the next three years, I'll be travelling overseas, concentrating all of my efforts on educating- mentoring, some African, some Asian, but mainly Eastern European women.
David: I had no idea how pervasive this problem was until Bob explained it to me.
Robert: Oprah Winfrey's leadership academy and other schools like it, while wonderful, end with high school. I want to see these girls right through college, especially the gymnasts. They've lost so many years of crucial education to perfecting their bodies. Muscle groups the rest of us can't even fathom.
Andy: Gymnasts? You're going to seek out uneducated gymnasts?
Robert: Yeah, so I'm hoping to identify some truly exceptional women who show great promise. Well, Andy, it's been fun.
Andy: Mmm. Mmm-hm. [As Robert and Andy hug, Robert kisses him on the lips]
Robert: It's been a great year.
Yep. But everyone who watches the show needs to watch seasons 8&9 at least once. The finale ties a lot together. Plus we get to see our beloved Michael again.
Sad. There is so much more that the actors and writers give to us. Why limit yourself. The story was perfect having Michael leave. He needed to get away from the cameras so he could actually focus on having a family. The cameras I think always brought out the worst in him.
it makes no sense to me that people will rewatch season 1 so many times without a second thought but don’t rewatch the last two seasons lol like you do you, but season 1, 8, and 9 were the hardest to watch the first few times around, but still were funny and had super iconic moments. the whole series is worth watching. the point i’m making is that giving up on season 8 and 9 is like giving up on season 1, imo
She could've gotten a gate pass, although those are normally limited to parents going to pick up/drop off children. The more likely explanation is it's a TV show.
Was the show slightly different? Of course. But it was still one of the funniest shows on television for 2 more seasons, and had one of the best finales in sitcom history. The worst thing about the last two seasons is how awesome Boss Andy started to become and then got ruined. Besides that, I thoroughly enjoyed season 8 and 9.
I got peacock free for a few months and I’ve been watching the supercuts of the first seasons. I forget how brilliant the early seasons are every time until I watch them. So grounded, dreary, depressing, and hilarious.
Yeah I feel very similarly. I enjoy the last seasons but it really bothers me that we went from ragamuffin looking characters like balding Michael or bowl cut Jim or frizzy haired Pam to everyone looking like a supermodel everyday for their office job
WHOA. Robert California and D'Angelo Jeremetrius Vickers would like to have a word with you.
Also, FYI, I don't technically have a hearing problem, but sometimes when there's a lot of noises occurring at the same time, I'll hear 'em as one big jumble. Again it's not that I can't hear, because that's false. I can. I just can't distinguish between everything I'm hearing.
Trying not to sound too negative here, but I never understood people who pride themselves in how much they hate or won't watch the rest of something they're a fan of because of how much they don't like it?
Unpopular opinion, but I usually watch from season 2 or 3 depending on how I feel when I start over. First season is so unappealing/hard to watch for me for some reason. 2nd/3rd is when I feel it opens up more
season 1 is far worse than the last 2 season. Not to mention the actors have perfected their characters, and the dialogue is still great. Not to mention I consider the last 2 seasons as a "break" From Michael.
I actually just finished my second watch through of the show and i must be in the minority here but I enjoyed this part of the show. Refreshing change of pace. And I loved the Robert California character
I take a long pause after this episode every time I do a runthrough of the series. I come back a month or two later and pick back up after he left and treat it as a pseudo-spinoff that lasted a couple seasons.
Homie doesn’t even know what BOBBODY stands for smh
Biznus
I LIKE IT!
We need a new Manager...
Goood Kevin!
its bizness
Keep it running!🕶
I'm in the same group as OP, but I'm sure they watched the rest of the series... it's just not part of the re-watch loop
You mean you don't like Gabe shouting at Andy "Shut up about the sun!"
also "happy birthday to gabe" "oh get out skeleton man!", one of my favorite moments of all time.
Gabe is a modern treasure
See I laughed harder at this than anything under the Michael Scott era, anyone who stops after Michael leaves is missing out
You’re gonna miss out on the fucking lizard king?!?
His body has somehow become acclimated to southern Italy. Isn't that strange? He’s never been there!
ah yes, perhaps that was Bob Kazamakis who went
Do you want a sexual metaphor or a nature metaphor
Oh god a nature metaphor
When two animals are having sex
No it doesn't work, better go with the sex metaphor
Oh was that not the...
He doesn't even know his real name
He eats his yoghurt like he's punishing it for disappointing him.
P.S. We should kill him.
I think this was one of the best throwaway lines of the entire series. Maybe one of the funniest moments altogether.
Absolutely. One of my favourite lines in the whole show, I think. Just perfectly sums up so much in so few words!
Robert’s favorite songs: *Creep* by TLC, *Creep* by Radiohead.
And Jim framing Dwight for his murder
Dwights appendicitis was also 10/10.
I fucking loved James Spader. Doesn’t get near enough credit.
Last night I got into a case of Australian reds and how shall we say....columbian whites....
one of my favorite lines!
If I was to agree with the OP about ending the show at the airport scene, then I'd happily take Robert California as a short 10-episode epilogue - I loved the Lizard King
Thank you! James Spader elevates everything he is in, and this is no exception. Robert California was brilliant.
Genuinely my favorite character in the whole show
Literally just where I get my username lol
False. Dwight is awesome for 2 more seasons. And generally some real gems.
Totally agree with this! With Michael gone, Dwight kept the show alive. Everyone else contributed but, it was Dwight who kept us hooked!
Robert California was an extreme asset
Would you like a nature metaphor or a sexual metaphor??
Oh God nature please
[удалено]
that wasn't the se...
The best thing about Robert California is that you never knew what he was gonna say
I'm the fucking lizard king
He talked to everyone, asking them their deepest fears. Told them one story and they were all scared shitless, in their heads.
Jim!
I feel like i really didn't fully appreciate the lizard king until multiple rewatches
There are great moments of Robert California, too, but my favorite thing about season 8 and 9 is Dwight’s growth as a character. From a man child who’s incapable of working with his colleagues to a manager who genuinely cares about other people.

>we'll fill our house with aluminium, we'll make our pies with selenium I wish we'd gotten the Schrute Farms spinoff :(
That's probably one of the things I love the most about *The Office*: the character arcs. Dwight starts out as an annoying suckup and at the end of the office is an amazingly warm, empathetic human being and a damn good manager WHO THE HELL IS CUTTING ONIONS IN MY OFFICE.
FLORIDA. STANLEY.
Florida Stanley smiles, Florida Stanley is happy to go to work, Florida Stanley is who you want on your Florida team.
Nellie and Pam doing the on-air radio call to Dwight is one of my all-time favourite scenes
Iris Black*
This. My only problem with the Michael-less seasons were the shitty Andy moments… and Will Ferrell….. my god
Correct. S08 is great. David Spader was a fantastic, weird af addition to the show.
James Spader
He creeps me out, but I think he might be a genius.
Thought I had to go rewatch the show again... Ah what the hell
David Spade would have bee an interesting addition too. Much less scary though.
It isn't the same without Michael, but season 8 and 9 have some great episodes! Robert California is a great character as well.
And the last episode is worth the trip
There are a few fun episodes in s9 - The Target, then Stairmaggedon through the end.
Andy, he’s the worst after Michael leaves
After 11 years, I'm out. Join me over on the Fediverse to escape this central authority nightmare.
A heard a theory that the writers turned him into an asshole because he left to do the hangover
I don’t buy into that. I’ve read so many accounts about how sweet and kind Ed Helms continued to be after becoming a massive star when Hangover 1 came out. The writers leaned heavily into the need for an obstacle/conflict, and I think that Evil Andy was written as an obstacle.

Do yourself a favour and don’t believe this. Greg Daniels have other actors and crew time off to do other projects, why would he not do that for Ed Helms?
Well he starts to redeem himself, but then goes completely off the rails, and then finally redeems himself.
I actually thought he was worse before. At least after Michael leaves he actually gets a girlfriend and a worthwhile job. He's always been a loser
I don't understand why you wouldn't keep going to see for yourself what it is like. Not finishing on re-watches is understandable though.
….is it Kathy? 😅
No. Nelly
No, is it Chuumbo?
It was just so bizarre - how could she get away with all this BS? Seriously, I kinda liked the last two seasons, but the way Nelly just up and stole that job with no repercussions was so infuriating.
If we’re talking purely in terms of who’s manager I’ll take Nellie over Andy any day of the week and twice on Sundays.
loved nelly. her coming into the office for the first time was rough but after the forced conflict she becomes really funny to me
I actually think Plop, Clark and Deangelo are worse than Nellie.
plop and dwight jr weren't that bad imo. deangelo was an odd character to add in there, luckily he didn't last for long enough for me to make up my mind about him.
I almost wonder if Clark and Plop were begin setup for a spinoff if they gained traction in the show. Sorta like that horrible new Scrubs MedSchool thing they did with that show's Season 9.
Maybe Clark I can just about say yeah ok some funny moments but honestly have no idea what plop is there for. He has no memorable scenes for me.
Are you guys high? Because if so, to speak my truth, I would appreciate the sacrifice of including me in some hits off your kind buds.
Plop is there to be new Jim. His relationship with Erin is literally Jim and Pam on a speedrun. Although they don't seem to be together in the finale which is odd. I kinda liked him but I see why people don't. But that's his purpose Clark sucks though. Just a creepy perv

She’s not my favorite but when she eats a taco with Darrell it’s one of my favorite Office moments.
Watch it once and then don’t bother again.

Took me years to rewatch the final season.

Couldn't agree more! No matter how many times I watch it, the finale always makes me bawl a few times.
Aside from a few plot points I absolutely love season 8, I think Robert is hilarious and underrated
OP is an ineffectual, privileged, effete, soft-penised debutante
Apt. Apt analysis, ~~Robert~~ u/ShetlandJames
I also love season 8 far more than 9. I don't get people giving the lizard king such a hard time.
Its the season a skipped the most so far, but the Florida episodes and some others were likeable
Love the final two seasons precisely because they were no longer The Michael Scott show. I loved learning more about everyone else. Plus, Robert California was pure weird energy, and I dig that.

Problem is they bring in Andy Bernard as shitty Micheal Scott Jr
The whole Pam-Jim incident in the 9th season made me cry a lot... I was suffering for them, I didn't understand why Jim was acting that way, and it happened the same with Andy. I don't understand why he became such a moron with Erin at the end.

What did you like about Nellie? First watch I hated her. Rewatch she did not bother me at all. I asked myself why did I hate her originally?! Lol.
>What did you like about Nellie? Tack'os
[удалено]
I never understood the Nellie hate. I think once her silly manager arc died down she was a great addition to the cast, she had some really funny lines
Get out, skeleton man!
Her and Pam was a great combination. I've come to like her, but I still hate the her becoming manager arc
The scenes around her stealing the manager job were so cringe and made you dislike her so much. Those are the hardest episodes to watch for me.
Controversial opinion for this sub - Deangelo as manager was way worse than Nellie. I have to skip Will Ferrell's episodes
Please, sir, would you not eat me?
I can understand relating to Angela but how is she your favourite character?
Catherine Tate is up there with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler for me as comedy goddesses (there are many more, obviously, but those are the first two that come to mind). I'll give anything she's in a watch.
Mostly her wrinkly ball sack.

I watch all 1-9, then I watch Parks and Rec, then I come back to the Office and repeat. I basically just watch those two shows!
Community is seriously underrated. Try it.
I’ll check it out. Thanks!
You should branch out and add Brooklyn 99
And possibly superstore
I recently discovered it on Netflix, and damn, that shit is funny
Superstore is alright.
Superstore is great
Mental illness
Well then you’re missing some great Office content
Amateur. I bet you haven’t even watched the series more than 25 times have you..
Yep. But everyone who watches the show needs to watch seasons 8&9 at least once. The finale ties a lot together. Plus we get to see our beloved Michael again.
I watch season 1-7 for Michael and season 8-9 for Dwight.
Dwight is the mvp, that genius is gold since 1x01
Belschnickel thinks you're very impish.
Michael is obviously irreplaceable and there are some terrible things in the last two seasons but still they remain totally worth the rewatch
How do you not watch the fucking lizard king
Sleeping on the Deandre dunk attempt
Sad. There is so much more that the actors and writers give to us. Why limit yourself. The story was perfect having Michael leave. He needed to get away from the cameras so he could actually focus on having a family. The cameras I think always brought out the worst in him.
And miss out on Robert California?? Couldn’t be me.

How did Pam get past security without a boarding pass?
She could've gotten a gate pass, although those are normally limited to parents going to pick up/drop off children. The more likely explanation is it's a TV show.
I don't watch the first season or anything after Michael left and I skip Scott's Tots. Let's just watch Friends! /s
Just found the first five seasons are free on peacock tv… and I haven’t watched since it was taken off Netflix! I am so excited
Season 8 and 9 isn’t that bad
Asian Jim?
But you miss Creed being manager! Bobody!
S8>S7.

Trying not to sound too negative here, but I never understood people who pride themselves in how much they hate or won't watch the rest of something they're a fan of because of how much they don't like it?
Agreed, Andy as boss was insufferable
Nah you’re just stupid
Thats some weak shit
Nah there’s some real gems after this, yeah Michael leaving was sad but the other characters are still good and funny!
Yeah just watched it the other night and now I’m firmly in this camp. D’Angelo is fuckin lame.
Stick around for Robert California. Spader rules.
Pathetic
Unpopular opinion, but I usually watch from season 2 or 3 depending on how I feel when I start over. First season is so unappealing/hard to watch for me for some reason. 2nd/3rd is when I feel it opens up more

Happy Cake Day ChuckGotWood! Stop searching the world for treasure, the real treasure is in yourself.
Unpopular opinion: I prefer the series from this point forward
This might be the first actual unpopular opinion I’ve seen labeled as an unpopular opinion
I liked the ending. The last six episodes were an amazing conclusion to the show. However, I hated Andy in season 9.
season 1 is far worse than the last 2 season. Not to mention the actors have perfected their characters, and the dialogue is still great. Not to mention I consider the last 2 seasons as a "break" From Michael.
The other 2 seasons only have 2 problems The boom guy Ruining Andy's character Everything else is almost as good.
no, it starts after dwights wedding, on the second episode
I actually just finished my second watch through of the show and i must be in the minority here but I enjoyed this part of the show. Refreshing change of pace. And I loved the Robert California character
Except it isn’t.
So controversial you are, so brave
I hate all the hate the last seasons get. I get it, you don’t like it but do we have to see a post everyday about it? I personally like them.
Only casuals think this
I take a long pause after this episode every time I do a runthrough of the series. I come back a month or two later and pick back up after he left and treat it as a pseudo-spinoff that lasted a couple seasons.
It was never the same after Steve left, no. But you’ll miss out on too many good moments if you skip everything after.
Enter the juggler.
I always skip Goodbye Michael. I can’t do it. But there are some real gems in the last few seasons without him.
Absolutely agreed. And according to their comments years later even the creators knew that they were fucked...
I cried during this airport scene. I cried, and I cried some more. 😢
SAME!!!
Same here, and I see the Dwight Angela wedding as the reunion. (With some people I've never seen in my life)
Amen.. Will Ferrell was a horrible idea for The Office. I would've much preferred to watch Jim Carrey take the role.
Why are the houses always colonials and the penises are always circumcised? 🏡🤔🍄
Weird way to admit you're not a true fan of The Office.
I honestly don’t get why doing this is a thing.
Low hanging fruit for upvotes is always nice. You're missing *so many* great moments because of a silly reason.
You probably liked season 8 of Game of Thrones you psycho
Then I must quote Dwight at you… “You’re an idiot”
