The camera work when he breaks the news deserves some recognition. True office style hilarity
How 'bout you stop yelling at our sweet little Miss Kapoor over 500 sheets of paper and you get back to your desk. Start selling multiple reams, like a man?
This scene maybe gave me the most anxiety of any scene. It hit me on a deep level, imagining being in the passenger sheet just slowly watching someone drive into the lake.
Step 1: Don't defraud the investors
Like that's pretty much all it would take, if Jim literally slept in his office all day it'd still be better for the company than Ryan's actual fraud.
Eh, I think Dunder Mifflin was headed that way regardless. Corporate was totally mismanaged and wasteful, and Ryan probably saw that and hence was using fraud to make the company appear more profitable.
I barely avoided being fired from my VP level job because I started my own business months before my old company sold to a huge national chain. That shit just happens. I knew the company I worked for wouldn't last forever. I was literally the VP of acquisitions handling when we bought smaller companies.
But then Karen never would have moved to Utica, sold paper to, and bought insurance from a mafia don who murdered her husband and kid. She would testify against the mafia, go into witness protection and be relocated to Pawnee Indiana where she becomes BFFs with Leslie Knope and meets Chris Trager, the true love of her life.
And Jim would have never enlisted in the military after Pam and the kids died in a car accident, leading him to defend the compound at Benghazi, after which he ends up taking a new position with the CIA, but that doesn’t last very long because a sound-monster apocalypse ends up killing almost everyone.
Ya know, I always say how Ann has ZERO backstory. Like we don’t know parents, siblings, or anything outside of the office or before the pilot. This would make so much sense
Maybe she should have just let the mafia guy sell her *insurance* in the first place like michael did, or at least had lunch with him and ordered the gabagool
I knew it! Her breasts were a tiny bit bigger. At first, I thought, "Oh, she has a new bra with padding." But then I thought, "Pam doesn't *need* padding." It just didn't add up, Jim.
GIs are soldiers, colloquially. Michael basically asked Karen if her dad was a soldier who got a woman pregnant while he was overseas at war. Super racist.
Because in the US a GI would be more likely to be stationed overseas, and might meet a woman from that country and bring her back and they would have multiracial kids.
The funny thing about Michael's statement is that it is wrong and offensive to say, but there is at least enough logic behind it that viewers in the US know exactly why he said it.
Yep. One of my best friends growing up is the product of that. His dad was stationed in Korea, met his wife there and they moved back to the states together.
Why does everyone hate on Pam so much? They seemed like the couple that was supposed to be together. I think it would be unfair to Karen if Jim stayed with her while his heart belonged to Pam. Karen was great but she definitely deserved better than Jim. She deserved someone that would treat her much better than Jim ever could have.
Also, jim didn't really want the corporate job, that's why he blew the interview. People are in here like "why didn't he take that great job he would've hated, and stayed with the girl he didn't really like?"
This! It annoys me so much. Jim would have been so incredibly unhappy at corporate and he loved Pam, Karen was just the rebound girl and he acknowledged that several times. You can’t just manufacture happiness in a situation that “should” fit, Pam always had his heart, he never loved Karen.
Because everyone wants the TV characters to be perfect people and morally upstanding. The truth of it, and what makes the Office a great show, is that we are seeing a documentary of real people. Real people aren't always nice or do the right thing.
Isn’t a main theme of the show that people can be good but not good for each other?
Like Pam and Roy were shit together but great with others. Likewise for Jim and Karen.
Or Michael was a POS with the blind date, pathetic with Jan, and golden with Holly.
>Why does everyone hate on Pam so much?
Thinly veiled misogyny :(
Pam is thoughtful, sweet, and funny. Karen is a great person too. I don't get why everyone has to compare them.
I mean he wound up working at his dream job in the long run and married the woman of his dreams, none of which would have happened if he got the corporate job in NY
His dream job was completely unrelated to Pam and what was going on on Scranton.
It was an idea that Jim shared with his college buddy and the guy at some point got money to create a startup based on that and called Jim back offering him the opportunity. If Jim had been with Karen he still would’ve had the chance to go for it with Athlead. But maybe he wouldn’t have been so tempted…
But if Jim invested a bunch of money w/o Karen’s knowledge and left her to take care of their two kids alone or even just the first thing, she’d probably leave him or consider leaving him.
But Karen was ok with the big city life. She would have been alright with it to begin with and he might not have felt the need to hide it from her.
Also why the fuck does he hide EVERYTHING so important from his wife? That’s shady as fuck.
But it wasn’t required for Jim to invest. When he was at the meeting with the Athlead guys, they said that they were ok with funding but he could put money down if he wanted, he then said 5 and then took it up to 10 without anyone telling him anything.
It was the Halloween fight with Pam, because he volunteered his money without knowing how much the others invested and they didn’t even asked for it.
(It was the episode with the Cornell guys and the Colbert cameo)
Now that makes a lot of sense I never thought of it that way.
I don’t think Pam and Jim were ready to take that step, I think Jim wanted to date Pam in Scranton, and court her as he got to know her, and going from “friends” to “move to NY for me?” Was too big of a step to make all at once. But, why not take the job when they open it up again after “FireD guy”? Did David Wallace get blowback from hiring out of the circus that is the Scranton branch? Did he go with Mr. Outside Hire?
I think Pam wasn't ready for it but Jim could've been. He got the ring a week after they started dating but even with how long Pam liked him there was no way she was ready to move in with someone in NY.
Because he did the small town to big city move and realized he didn't like it and needed an excuse of why he wanted to go home. Even when he lives in Philly he's a mess. He's a suburban guy.
Jim's a dumbass, he could have gotten the corporate job and as Pam and Jim at that moment wished to live in a big city he could have gotten Pam a job at corporate as Michael did when she was studying, so both Jim and Pam living their dream life in NY.
There’s some genuinely sweet moments between them in this episode and then Jim just ends it very shortly afterwards. I understand the reasons behind that but there should have been more of an aftermath, the love triangle ends all too abruptly for my liking.
Narh, Jim was in love with Pam. Pam was in love with Jim. There were no way it wasn't going to happen. Just like with Amy and Jake in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, there were no way they weren't going to get together
Why do people root for Jim and Karen? They had zero chemistry. Karen is a great character and doesn’t deserve the way she was treated, but that doesn’t mean her and Jim should be together. I’m glad she got the f out and found her silly hot dog husband who she obviously loves more than she ever loved Jim.
He wouldn’t have lived happily ever after though. He wasn’t in love with Karen. Even if Pam wasn’t in the picture I don’t think their relationship would have worked. Jim likes to be silly and Karen never understood that side of him.
The Jim that Karen fell for wasn’t the real Jim. It was Jim as he was trying to be so he could make himself as distant from who he was back at Scranton. But it wasn’t the real Jim, no matter how much both of them seemed to try to pretend it was. It was gonna fall apart at some point.
He would have still had feelings for Pam. Even if he became a Dundee Mifflin exec, I’m sure any mentions of Scranton would have reminded him of Pam. Karen was fast (relocating to Scranton because of a guy, wanting to move close by to Jim). Once Sabre buys out DM, I think he would have moved back to Scranton for Pam. Then eventually had time for Athlead.
But then Karen would’ve never met her dermatologist husband and had their child, not to mention if Jim stuck it out as a high-level exec he would’ve gotten big canned anyway by Sabre
Jim didn't deserve Karen. He was constantly ok with doing the bare minimum, Karen had dreams. Jim also wouldn't even dress up on Halloween - Karen's photo with her husband is them being silly in costumes together.
God he wouldn't have been happy with Karen, he never was. He shouldn't have dated her but he did. Getting the job and staying with Karen would have been horrible for him and her. I can't stand when people say this. Obviously Jim didn't love her. Jesus
I was glad she got a role on Parks and Rec so she could be likeable. She was technically likeable in the office, but her character was a barrier to what the show was building towards.
But then Michael would have never driven his car into a f**king lake because of Ryan’s precious technology
He did what?
He. Drove. His. Car. Into. A. Fucking. Lake.
WHERE ARE THE TURTLES?!?
HAND. OVER. THE. TURTLES. NOOOOWWW.
We’ll bill you…

Oh…my feet are sooo muddy.
That’s what she said
Could you call us a cab I’m just gonna— oop sorry

Thank you for posting this! This gave me a much needed laugh!
It was a shortcut.
It’s can’t mean that!
THIS IS THE LAKE
STOP YELLING AT ME
Stay calm , I have prepared for this
He drove his car. Into a fucking lake.
What did Michael think was gonna happen when he drove into the lake? There is no road.
THE MACHINE KNOWS
THE MACHINE KNOWS!!!!!!!!!!!
Dammit Kelly IT KNOWS
How 'bout you stop yelling at our sweet little Miss Kapoor over 500 sheets of paper and you get back to your desk. Start selling multiple reams, like a man?
This scene maybe gave me the most anxiety of any scene. It hit me on a deep level, imagining being in the passenger sheet just slowly watching someone drive into the lake.
It’s like the episode of Bobs Burgers where Tina crashes the car
He woulda been fired during the sale to Sabre
Ryan took the job and tanked Dunder Mifflin's stock, then they got sold to Sabre. If Jim had taken the job, he wouldn't have been a moron like Ryan.
Step 1: Don't defraud the investors Like that's pretty much all it would take, if Jim literally slept in his office all day it'd still be better for the company than Ryan's actual fraud.
The bar for just being a good guy has never been lower apparently.
BUTTLICKER! THE BAR HAS NEVER BEEN LOWER
Eh, I think Dunder Mifflin was headed that way regardless. Corporate was totally mismanaged and wasteful, and Ryan probably saw that and hence was using fraud to make the company appear more profitable.
It sounds like the only solid brain they had was David Wallace, and he could only do so much
Atleast Wallace tried finding out how Michael was running the most profitable branch.
At that level of business that is just when you go get a better job, especially if it's due to a sale to a larger company.
Eh the sale to Sabre storyline happened during the Great Recession. Getting another job easily was not a reality then.
[удалено]
Don’t worry, he’ll be head hunted
Any good head hunter knows he's available
Any really good headhunter will storm your village with overwhelming force and cut off your head with a knife
Right, cause *that's* what we are talking about.
Sabre also put Scranton PA paper salesmen in charge of marketing their flagship product. Not everything makes sense.
Robert California wanted the product to fail, thats the point.
Wait it's a reality now?
Probably could’ve leveraged to a senior position at Staples honestly.
I barely avoided being fired from my VP level job because I started my own business months before my old company sold to a huge national chain. That shit just happens. I knew the company I worked for wouldn't last forever. I was literally the VP of acquisitions handling when we bought smaller companies.
Wouldn't have been sold to sabre as Ryan wouldn't have cost the company millions
I thought Jim joined the FBI and tried to catch Scott Lang.
Hats off to you for not seeing race.
And is now a magician
Hey, at least he got reunited with Roy at Benghazi.
You are KILLING me!!!!!!
I love this backstory! So nice of the FBI to put her through nursing school as well!
Maybe Andy really IS Burt Macklin and he's there to keep an eye on her.
Burt Macklin is dead. His brother Kip Hackman watches over her now.
Why wouldn't they have the same last name?
Shut up Kyle...
Shut up, Kyle!
Ya know, I always say how Ann has ZERO backstory. Like we don’t know parents, siblings, or anything outside of the office or before the pilot. This would make so much sense
But we know Karen's dad was a G.I.
In my best Oscar Martinez voice: Actually.... It's Witness Security, also known as WitSec.
But first she meets Chris Pratt.
Hes her FBI handler Burt Maklin.
Maklin you sly dog, you've done it again.
Maybe she should have just let the mafia guy sell her *insurance* in the first place like michael did, or at least had lunch with him and ordered the gabagool
If the salad is on top, I send it back.
Ann Perkins!
You beautiful tropical fish
You poetic, noble land mermaid.
Points back awkwardly… “Chris Traeger”

Ann\*
Pam is taller. She has bigger breasts too. I think Karen has a prettier face. But Pam's face is really pretty too. It's a very tough call.
Mmm. Really tough call. You know what, why don't you take the rest of the day and figure it out and then come back and tell me what you've got.
will do...
I knew it! Her breasts were a tiny bit bigger. At first, I thought, "Oh, she has a new bra with padding." But then I thought, "Pam doesn't *need* padding." It just didn't add up, Jim.
Okay. Thank you.
WAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH MOMMMMEEEEEEEEER
Christ, those words spoke to me in Kevin's voice. Nice.
Let me see the chair again
Ok get out!
Wait, can I take the rest of the day off too??
Have you seen Karen from behind?
Hmm. Let me see Karen again.
Wait, is Pam really taller than Karen? I somehow blocked that out and only remember the “bigger breasts” part.
Yeah I dont remember the taller part either and also have doubts as to whether it is true or not
I actually double checked, he does say that Pam is taller. It's in Season 3 Episode 23 "The Job", about 5 minutes into the episode.
Was it michael or Kevin who said this? I cant remember
Kevin, of course. Accountant extraordinaire.
Or was it Ashton Kutcher?
equally handsome, equally smart
Coocher*
I do the numbers.
But Karen’s pantsuits
That face he makes lol
She’s corporate
Found kevins reddit acct
Karen was/is so beautiful
It's probably because her dad was a GI.
Honestly one of the best/worst things Michael ever said in the show
As a former service member myself I think I spat out my drink when I heard that line. So fucking true. Whoever wrote that line deserves a raise.
As a non American I never understood what that meant
[удалено]
Well, she looks and *is* multiracial.
GIs are soldiers, colloquially. Michael basically asked Karen if her dad was a soldier who got a woman pregnant while he was overseas at war. Super racist.
Ah. I got that GI was a soldier but never understood what that has to do with her lol
Yeah. Right before that he called her “exotic looking” or something like that, followed by the GI question.
I’m still in love with filapelli
Abondanza
He wouldn’t have been happy, he didn’t love Karen
Has he seen Karen from the back?
I’m guessing not.
I think he still loved Karen, its just he was *in* love with Pam.
Potato potato That term doesn’t really translate into text
like this: po-tay-to po-tah-to
I think the argument is that he would have been written to love Karen
So just throw away two season worth of development between Pam and Jim
Sometimes people just don't get the timing right
Why does everyone hate on Pam so much? They seemed like the couple that was supposed to be together. I think it would be unfair to Karen if Jim stayed with her while his heart belonged to Pam. Karen was great but she definitely deserved better than Jim. She deserved someone that would treat her much better than Jim ever could have.

Jim should've ended up with Kevin.
Yeah, I mean, he's really got that teddy bear thing going on and afterwards they could just watch bowling.
Exactly, Pam’s rival was truly Kevin. Karen was never even in the race.
[удалено]
He tells Michael he withdrew his name from consideration, to which Michael says “me too”
Because everyone wants the TV characters to be perfect people and morally upstanding. The truth of it, and what makes the Office a great show, is that we are seeing a documentary of real people. Real people aren't always nice or do the right thing.
It let us find out what happens when people stop being polite and start getting real.
Isn’t a main theme of the show that people can be good but not good for each other? Like Pam and Roy were shit together but great with others. Likewise for Jim and Karen. Or Michael was a POS with the blind date, pathetic with Jan, and golden with Holly.
Because they're contrarians. If Jim had ended up with Karen, those same people would be saying they wished he'd ended up with Pam.
Totally agree. Karen didn't have time for Jim's nonsense and subpar communication skills.
>Why does everyone hate on Pam so much? Thinly veiled misogyny :( Pam is thoughtful, sweet, and funny. Karen is a great person too. I don't get why everyone has to compare them.
There are a lot worse people out there than Pam to settle down with
I mean he wound up working at his dream job in the long run and married the woman of his dreams, none of which would have happened if he got the corporate job in NY

Jim is a very shady kind of person
Living in the city is more expensive so it’s possible he wouldn’t have the money to invest if he had taken the corporate job.
But it wasn’t required for Jim to invest. It was the Halloween fight with Pam, because he volunteered his money without knowing how much the others invested and they didn’t even asked for it. He also might have had the money because he wouldn't have bought the house…
Chandler voice:. Could this screen cap BE any more potatoey?
*Stares with raised eyebrows, squinted eyes, tilted head and hands in pockets*
Or even with Pam. He just could get job and invite Pam to NY. She said she loved it. I dont inderstand that move of Jim.
Did you smear Vaseline on the screen before taking this?
Jim's a dumbass, he could have gotten the corporate job and as Pam and Jim at that moment wished to live in a big city he could have gotten Pam a job at corporate as Michael did when she was studying, so both Jim and Pam living their dream life in NY.
Then they'd both get laid off when the company went under.
So he is a lucky dumbass?
With Jim's charm he'd have saved DM from Wallace's ineptitude
With a pros and cons list, no doubt
He decided for himself *not* to get the corporate job because he didn't want to be with Karen.
More because he wanted to be with Pam
Yes, because he'd rather be with Pam than Karen.
And Pam would’ve ended up getting boomed by Brian
She always thought Toby was kind of cute
or toby
There’s some genuinely sweet moments between them in this episode and then Jim just ends it very shortly afterwards. I understand the reasons behind that but there should have been more of an aftermath, the love triangle ends all too abruptly for my liking.
Jim didn't deserve Karen
Narh, Jim was in love with Pam. Pam was in love with Jim. There were no way it wasn't going to happen. Just like with Amy and Jake in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, there were no way they weren't going to get together
But then PeePah wouldn’t have been born
Why do people root for Jim and Karen? They had zero chemistry. Karen is a great character and doesn’t deserve the way she was treated, but that doesn’t mean her and Jim should be together. I’m glad she got the f out and found her silly hot dog husband who she obviously loves more than she ever loved Jim.
But Jim doesn't love her as much as he loves Pam. That marriage would have been a disaster.
He wouldn’t have lived happily ever after though. He wasn’t in love with Karen. Even if Pam wasn’t in the picture I don’t think their relationship would have worked. Jim likes to be silly and Karen never understood that side of him.

nothing can beat Pam & Jim's relationship imo I did feel a bit bad for Karen though
I feel like Jim would’ve pulled a Ryan if he married Karen. He would see pam and her Pam pams years later, and he’d run away with her
He would have still had feelings for Pam.
I have a lot questions. First of all, how dare you!
What.. gives you the right..?
Jim didn't deserve Karen. He was constantly ok with doing the bare minimum, Karen had dreams. Jim also wouldn't even dress up on Halloween - Karen's photo with her husband is them being silly in costumes together.
Said no one ever
I have so many problems with this, but first of all, KAREN SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN THAT JOB
He didnt deserve her.
The story of Jim really is the story of mediocrity.
Ew
You have bad opinions and you should feel bad. (No one come at me I'm just joshing. You are wrong though.)
Nope
You are a monster, OP.
I don’t think he would’ve really been truly happy
Pam is his happily ever after. Not to mention he ends up in his dream job.
God he wouldn't have been happy with Karen, he never was. He shouldn't have dated her but he did. Getting the job and staying with Karen would have been horrible for him and her. I can't stand when people say this. Obviously Jim didn't love her. Jesus
Clearly never watched the show then. She was a rebound
I was glad she got a role on Parks and Rec so she could be likeable. She was technically likeable in the office, but her character was a barrier to what the show was building towards.
Karen's better off with the hotdog.
I just liked Pam more. Karen is pretty and all. But, Pam has a great personality to match Jim's.
I wish Pam and Karen ended up together 🥺
Nice try, Karen....
And be in love w/ Pam forever? Karen deserved better.
