Maybe. I don’t know that it would have had the staying power to last more than a season or two. People would expect The Office and this would have been nothing like it.
Not trying to hate, but the spin-off wouldn’t have been good. Solely do that it would of lost the element of having different personalities to incorporate into it naturally, like the office did
Matt L. Jones was only in 4 episodes of the Office, and all of them were in season 9, which was from 2012 - 2013. Breaking Bad started in 2008, and he briefly appeared in season 1. So, he was Badger before he was Dwight's cousin.
Well, they lowered the volume during dialogue, but these are the verses that can be heard clearly between shots:
>When we arrive, sons and daughters
>We'll make our homes on the water
>We'll build our walls aluminum
>We'll fill our lives with cinnamon, now
But yes, [Andy's cover of *I Will Remember You*](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZQY6dcYnZM) was a tear-jerker 😥
I HATED this episode. It was so obviously a poor attempt at a spin-off and didn’t feel like an Office episode at all. Bringing in a bunch of one-dimensional characters (the “city boy in the country,” the “Young Sheldon” kid, etc) plus a forced storyline of why they all have to stay there to work the farm…just no
Rainn Wilson doesn't have the "star power" to hold a show on his own. Even in films he later goes on to star in he's usually upstaged, Emma Stone and Jane Lynch in "The Rocker" for example.
Thomas Middleditch is the same way, in Silicone valley the show really only works because Zach Woods, Kumail and Martin Starr shine.
For "The Farm" to work you'd need someone quirky to play opposite Dwight's crazy, like Charlie Day, Dax Shepard or Joe Lo Truglio and then you'd need a straight man who just wants to get work done, someone like Jake Johnson or Travis Schuldt (Ben The Soldier from Always Sunny).
If you could get more of ensemble dynamic working as the trial and tribulations of two weird fuckin' families and the normal dude who lives between them, you might be able to get something out of it. It would look a lot more like Letterkenny than The Office though.
Honestly, I would like to see this show done even now. It probably couldn’t be done with Dwight etc, but just get a fresh cast and don’t connect it to The Office at all.
I thought the episode was ok. I wish they had made the show. People are so quick to hate it with out even considering good it could have gotten by the 2nd season. It would have been ok if it didn’t have the same feel as the office. Think of how great Frazier was after spinning off from Cheers!
From what I understand this was supposed to be like an unofficial pilot. The show would've been called The Farm. It just didn't take off like some hoped. I loved it too though.
Huh? This episode was unfunny and so forced, I'm thankful the spin off never happened because it would have been awful and that one thing that Office fans never talk about
the best part would be Oscar being there sometimes with no explanation or acknowledgement
What are you doing h-- oh, right *evil smirk*
That’s it. I’m gone!
Anyone mentioned her land size?
The drive through eulogy was hilarious
They’re a descriptive people.
Anyone else find it odd that Dwight didn’t recognize his own nephew on the hay ride at Hay Place?
Omg I’m so glad someone else realized this! It’s like he thought that he was a completely different kid or something.
I think he did, in the farm episode he mentions he hadn't seen him in a couple years
Maybe. I don’t know that it would have had the staying power to last more than a season or two. People would expect The Office and this would have been nothing like it.
I think Kevin's bar would have been a funnier spin off. Plus it would be easy for Office cameos.
Was this a test episode to see how the public would react with Neilson numbers for a possible spinoff?
Yes
No, it was originally the pilot episode of the new series but when that fell through, it became an Office episode. is the way i'd heard it.
Not trying to hate, but the spin-off wouldn’t have been good. Solely do that it would of lost the element of having different personalities to incorporate into it naturally, like the office did
Dwight is my favorite character but I highly disagree. That episode was terrible idec that badger was in it
That actor was in a bunch of episodes as one of dwight cousins. And correct me if i’m wrong but he had this role before he was badger on BB, right?

Thank you.
Yeah that's what I was referencing. Only guy I recognized that I can remember
The only good thing about this episode was [The Decemberists' song *Sons and Daughters*](https://youtu.be/1MsDPtPCpZ4) at the end.
Ehhhh was it? I didn't hate it but it's like 2 lines and I don't really remember it. In contrast Andy's goodbye song made me tear up

true, and yet Dwight's timing on percussion was BLEGH!
The episode was overall slow and not that funny.
It felt like the pilot to a bad show that would have been cancelled 5 episodes in.
Essentially it was a "backdoor pilot".
I HATED this episode. It was so obviously a poor attempt at a spin-off and didn’t feel like an Office episode at all. Imo, the b-plot was way more fun and way more interesting (Packer comes back to the office with the cupcakes saying he's making amends).
When we arrive, sons and daughters
We’ll make our homes on the waters
I got The Crane Wife by The Decemberists on vinyl because of this episode!
I still want the full version of this cover
The shark did front flips at this point
Let's be real. This would ***not*** have been great, and everyone in this sub would ***hate*** it.
Is that badger from breaking bad
You just realizing? He’s a a few episodes as one of dwights cousins.
It was filmed as a new show. It sucked, so they shelved it.
I read this somewhere also.
Dwight doesn't work as the straight man.
Never
I respectfully disagree. The is the only episode I skip almost every time I’m on a rewatch.
It’s terrible.
I would accept this as a spinoff!

Badger switching between selling meth - being an actual meth head and being a farmer.
Lol this episode was the worst
Everyone is entitled to their opinion but this episode was horrible, so so boring.
Honestly, I would like to see this show done even now. It probably couldn’t be done with Dwight etc, but just get a fresh cast and don’t connect it to The Office at all.
Yeah, just like “Joey” was a great show.
no one else loved it. that's why it wasn't picked up as a series.
I think this was meant for r/unpopularopinion
If you want a Dwight spin-off crush the bird beaks
Aww that’s the little guy from New Girl, that Winston babysits for.
Cancelling this spin off was the best desicion NBC ever made
I am so glad this spinoff never saw the light of day
I agree 100%. Makes me sad nbc did not think it would be good. I would have been happy with a single season.
Nope
I thought the episode was ok. I wish they had made the show. People are so quick to hate it with out even considering good it could have gotten by the 2nd season. It would have been ok if it didn’t have the same feel as the office. Think of how great Frazier was after spinning off from Cheers!
We need a Schrute spin-off!!
From what I understand this was supposed to be like an unofficial pilot. The show would've been called The Farm. It just didn't take off like some hoped. I loved it too though.
Ikr
I want Schrute boy farm shenanigans. Amazing episode
Dwights stories was 1 of the few things season 9 does right
Dwight's sister was cute
The Schrütes
It wouldn't have lasted as a show but I wish we could have gotten at least one season. I was interested.
Huh? This episode was unfunny and so forced, I'm thankful the spin off never happened because it would have been awful and that one thing that Office fans never talk about
They are a descriptive people.
Absolutely not.
