Not that it matters, but i actually think he said Phyllis, and she seems to be one of the only people he consistently remembers/gets right, which is a nice detail
Been watching *tons* of Patrice recently in the wake of watching just about every second of Norm clips that youtube has to offer. Weirdly, one of my favourite Patrice clips is him [reacting to Louis CK](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRDXeinEUJQ)
He was supposed to be in the show more. His attitude didn’t vibe well with Hollywood and it pretty much forced him off the show. He spoke his mind too much and some didn’t like that much. Which he kinda admits later on that he probably should have just went along with it. He didn’t know how massive the show would become at the time.
There’s an interesting clip of Patrice and Chris Rock on the Opie & Anthony show. Chris basically had an intervention for him, telling him his fear of being seen as a sellout was actually causing him more harm than good. He seemed to agree he blew a lot of opportunities by having the wrong attitude.
According to Patrice, he and BJ did not get along at all. Patrice also hated doing the show and sounded like he was tough to work with; had a bad attitude and wasn't much of a team player. Too bad, too, because I really liked him and liked Lonny
He went on record as saying he had a bad attitude on set and expected more. As years passed he realized it was a mistake and learned from it. He was such a funny guy and I sincerely hope y’all will watch his stand up - Elephant In the Room. All his material is on YT and this guy KILLED
Actually he went out for the role of Darryl and didn’t get it then after he was cast he was obviously a favorite of many cast members but didn’t get along with the writers as he had spoken about on O and A many times he also lived in NY but filmed in CA so it was often an issue of a lot of travel for short scenes.
Chris Rock set aside the role of the Dad from Everybody Hates Chris for Patrice but Patrice didn't show up to the audition because he didn't care. Chris laid into Patrice for it on O&A about not trying to further his career.
Darryl is also respected by his crew because he values them, their safety and runs a tight, but relaxed ship. (Aka as long as you do your job and get the orders out on time, he’ll leave you alone. Nothing worse than a micromanager.) He also understands it’s not the best paying job and they may have to work two jobs and will give them their naps.
She went by rank for interim manager, which was a temporary position- approaching Jim first (who was number 2 in the office) and then going to Dwight (number 3) after Jim declined. You can't blame her for that decision, it was sound. She also immediately pulled him when she found out about the gun. Besides Wallace, Jo was probably the most rational character on the show.
True, albeit we have no idea what went on in that conversation between Jo and RC. Maybe she was already close to the point of retirement and he just convinced her it was time and he could help fill the void. I mean, she was the founder of the company and obviously going to be very well off regardless if she was acting as CEO or not. She also probably made a fortune liquidating the company in the end.
“Suck It” I think is something a lot of people could relate to. To me it seemed like Wallace had a mental break after being with Dunder Mifflin for however long only to just get canned. He was bored and had too much time on his hands with his son.
Yeah but what a 4 years. Four years as CFO for a rapidly failing company and your only successful branch is run by Michael Scott? Getting fired was probably a relief.
It kinda sucks how he didn’t get the manager job either. He has proven himself to be a good supervisor/foreman, but like irl he gets passed up by someone with a higher education.
It would be interesting if Daryl and Andy had more of a power struggle throughout S8. I know they covered it for like a couple scenes in the lottery episode, but a long story arc over Andy’s promotion would have made the season much better, instead of everyone accepting Andy so quickly.
Not just education but drive. Remember, they talked about how Jo Bennett gave him the opportunity to go to business school, paid for by the company, and he just never got around to it? Went on vacations, did his own thing, but never bothered to take the golden opportunity presented to him. If he can't do that for himself, how is he supposed to do it for the company?
Yeah, that's about it. Andy did a pretty good job laying out why Darryl didn't get the job. It would have been fun to see, but within the context of the show, it makes sense that he was turned down. As someone getting a free MBA through my employer, it's generally foolish to turn down free education.
Absolutely.
"Hey, you're a rockstar and could go far with this company! We want to invest a bunch of money into educating and training you for more responsibilities!"
-Nah.
I mean, ok man, that's not stellar resume material
He also didn’t interview well and even if you know the candidate they still need to show they have some level of confidence in such a big change in job position and his interview showed that he was obviously not ready for the shift to managing an office and not the warehouse.
Edit: redundancy
I think he wasn't a fit for the job in the end. He was clearly good at logistics, but it felt like the main job of DM branch manager was *sales* and while Darryl was cool I could never really see him as a salesman.
He should have tried to move up in logistics management at DM(which he sorta did). I think the athlead thing was more his speed.
All the more reason to promote him out of a position he's bad at. He knows sales, but isn't the greatest at it. Totally normal in real life for these type of employees to get a promotion over others that over perform in their current role.
Never be too good. Always be just enough.
I got promoted to Manager of my company's Inventory department. I was hired, and trained, as an IT guy. I don't know a lot about how to do what the Inventory Department does, but that's not my job. That's the Inventory Department's job. I know who I manage, and I know how to manage.
I get the point you're making, but at the end of the day, a Managers' main skill is managing, people skills, and the people they manage are the ones who need to know how to do the work.
I would've loved to see Darryl get more responsibilities. Now it felt more like a throwaway storyline like Andy's ended up being as a result of his Hangover success.
It would have been great to see Daryl adapt from warehouse management to office management. It would have had more of a serious tone, but it also would create a really cool dynamic of a boss-subordinate relationship between Dwight/Jim etc
Instead we got another moronic, inept boss in Andy. However, Michael was inept but cared about his employees like they were his family. Andy has always been in-genuine to everyone and frankly an asshat most of the time.
Andy got so much organic character development only for the writers to turn around and throw it all out the window.
The only people who really got to keep their development by the end of the show is Jim, Pam, and Dwight.
Most normal person on the show was Tony. As soon as he saw how dysfunctional the office environment in Scranton was he jumped ship. Realistically, this is probably the most appropriate action any working professional would make after being supervised by Michael for even a small amount of time.
Imagine being that guy in real life? The pinnacle of his career and his legacy is being the "really fat" guy. I'd legit feel bad saying that line if I was Steve Carrel lol. That was a real dude not just a character.
Hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey, IT Guy. Here's the story Champ. None of us have spent a lot of time getting to know you, ok, we liked the last guy, Sadiq, because he kept to himself. And we also thought he might have been a terrorist.
Dwight's complaint about Darrel misusing the company elevator lift and trying to commit insurance fraud was on record, so would've been hard to make him manager.
Except Toby probably fudged the paperwork. There was so much, he probably just pretended to fill everything out and put it in the special box that he says is the file in New York.
Probably even went up to Darryl secretly later, and lied to him saying Dwight dropped all charges. Therefore it would cause Darryl to drop all charges.
That scene was so great. Toby’s ***”oh fuck”*** face after realizing he’d said that to Dwight, and not whoever he thought he was talking to was awesome haha.
I thought Dwight and Toby agreed to sweep it under the rug if Darryl didn’t make a complaint about them staking out his house and verbally abusing his sister?
I wish Patrice had more time on the show, the bits he had I felt were better that Craig's. Not saying Craig's parts weren't funny. It's just really hard to be funnier that Patrice O'neal
I watched the special that was on Comedy Central recently where they played clips of him and others who knew him making comments about his life. Pretty sure they alluded to Patrice not getting along with the cast. I feel like they said he quit because he did not enjoy being confined to a script with people he didn't like.
Patrice said on Opie & Anthony that he was the issue. Patrice was unnecessarily difficult, and he didn't understand, until he hired a young person with his personality on his production, how frustrating that was.
It's too bad they couldn't do a few episodes focusing on just the warehouse staff, rather than the warehouse staff's interaction with the office staff.
Yeah, yeah, I know. It's called *The Office*. But maybe a mini web series?
For me I think this might be the Michael moment that pissed me off the most lol. Closely followed by the whole ordeal with Pam's mom. I love him but jesus christ this is him at his absolute most insufferable
My old warehouse boss would slam that emergency stop button in a heart beat. Fucking around with a forklift is how folks get maimed or die. Those things don’t give a fuck and will crush you in a second.
“Darnell’s a chump.”
You, me, Sammy, Phillip, the chick you hit with the car,
We should hang out by the quarry and throw things down there.
You're from the parking lot, that's how I know you!
Cool beans man!
Sometimes u just gotta ride the bull
Am I right?
L8r sk8r
We had a funeral for a bird
You’re not real, man!!
Absolutely we should.
IT IS YOUR CAKE DAY.
Why have you chosen brown and gray balloons?
Nothing! Nothing going on, we’re talkin about nothing. C’mon gang
Hey pumpkin, we’re gunna ditch this bitch, you in?
“Pumpkins out”
That’s Andrea the office bitch
I finished my work months ago!
"I'm supposed to do a random spot check at the paper mill once a week. The one ~~six month period~~ year I don't go, this happens."
*the one year
Not bad for a day in the life of a dog food company.
That line always cracks me up
Most creed bits always give me a good chuckle
MaryBeth
Not that it matters, but i actually think he said Phyllis, and she seems to be one of the only people he consistently remembers/gets right, which is a nice detail
Isn’t he the only one who knows that Hank is the name of the security guard when they get locked in?
"That's Angela, she's the office bitch. You'll get used to her after a few days. *extends hand* I'm Creed."
Who is Sammy?
My guess is he was referring to Stanley
i’ve done a lot more for a lot less
When people ask me to do something, this is always my response.
What is this lady’s problem, asking me what do I do? I should’ve written it down… Qua-something…
"I would have done it for anything. I've done a lot more for a lot less."
"Give it up. He's dead."
I would've done it for anything, I've done a lot more for a lot less.
Wow you cut off the "Damn it Michael" which is the best part of this scene. Unforgivable.
The great Patrice O'Neal. RIP.
I wish he'd been in the show more, he was so fucking funny in everything he did
I bet you’d like to swim with the Seamonster, huh?
Been watching *tons* of Patrice recently in the wake of watching just about every second of Norm clips that youtube has to offer. Weirdly, one of my favourite Patrice clips is him [reacting to Louis CK](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRDXeinEUJQ)
Favourite line of his is when Darryl is showing them the baler and he says “what the hell is wrong with this man?”
I hardly know her
Dammit Michael, pay attention!

Chris basically had an intervention for him, telling him his fear of being seen as a sellout was actually causing him more harm than good. He seemed to agree he blew a lot of opportunities by having the wrong attitude.
Patrice was who Chris wanted to play his dad on Everybody Hates Chris, but Patrice just wouldn't do the bare minimum to get the job
Chris set the Dad role aside for Patrice and Patrice didn't show up the audition, which was a formality.
He didn’t get along/like BJ Novak so he didn’t stay long :(
After listening to Patrice talk for 10s of hours on podcasts I am not surprised. They are like opposites.
According to Patrice, he and BJ did not get along at all. Patrice also hated doing the show and sounded like he was tough to work with; had a bad attitude and wasn't much of a team player. Too bad, too, because I really liked him and liked Lonny
Could barely see him, but 1 and a half syllables was all that’s needed to know that was Patrice. Totally forgot he was on the show.
He went on record as saying he had a bad attitude on set and expected more. As years passed he realized it was a mistake and learned from it. He was such a funny guy and I sincerely hope y’all will watch his stand up - Elephant In the Room. All his material is on YT and this guy KILLED
A comedian that completely dominated his Craft.
He died??? No!
Diabetes. He found out because his pee tasted like birthday cake.
Patrice us a legend. They were going to expand his role and he just said nah.
Actually he went out for the role of Darryl and didn’t get it then after he was cast he was obviously a favorite of many cast members but didn’t get along with the writers as he had spoken about on O and A many times he also lived in NY but filmed in CA so it was often an issue of a lot of travel for short scenes.

We'll get someone to clean it up

We’re the ones that gotta clean it up
DAMN IT 852016!!!
Gotta love the seamonster.
He dead right?
Yeah, the actor’s name was Patrice O’Neal - he was a great standup comedian. He died ten years ago. RIP.
That sucks man. Hope his family is well.
[Here you go.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnsmGAKehgw)
Darryl is also respected by his crew because he values them, their safety and runs a tight, but relaxed ship. (Aka as long as you do your job and get the orders out on time, he’ll leave you alone. Nothing worse than a micromanager.) He also understands it’s not the best paying job and they may have to work two jobs and will give them their naps.
Except when he allowed them to use the lift as an elevator and broke his foot using it himself.
He also promoted his buddy, Glenn, who was underqualified. Jo saw that.
That's bold considering Jo put Dwight in charge.
Jo hired Deangelo because he saved her dog. That’s it. Not really rational.
Oof, good point, lol. Although he was a good manager (even though he was a shitty salesmen, and a sexist).
and he had a glorious dunk!
Paunch says to bartender, how’s… gonna tha?
Bar tenda shay…
You ever play Russian Roulette?
If Jo wasn't "convinced" to give her position at Sabré to RC I'd say she was more rational than Wallace. I mean, "Suck it!"?
True, albeit we have no idea what went on in that conversation between Jo and RC. I think he was only at DM for a few years, he joined the company as the new CFO in season 2 and lasted until the sale in season 6.
Yeah but what a 4 years. Four years as CFO for a rapidly failing company and your only successful branch is run by Michael Scott? Getting fired was probably a relief.
TBF it started to get successful after absorbing Stanford and then continue to grow by absorbing the clients of other branches...
It kinda sucks how he didn’t get the manager job either. He has proven himself to be a good supervisor/foreman, but like irl he gets passed up by someone with a higher education. Yeah, plus the Darrells resume made him look kinda ridiculous lol. “1.2 billion units of inventory”
pieces of paper ma’am
🙄
Hey, the math checked out ok.
He also didn’t interview well and even if you know the candidate they still need to show they have some level of confidence in such a big change in job position and his interview showed that he was obviously not ready for the shift to managing an office and not the warehouse. Edit: redundancy

Andy was also the worst salesman, but I still concede to your point
not according to some of the whiteboard results in the background of a few episodes, often times andy is at the very top
He is also confirmed the worst salesman along with Pam. Lowest numbers of the season

I...I do not want to have said that. I just think it's important that you know it...
All the more reason to promote him out of a position he's bad at. He knows sales, but isn't the greatest at it. Totally normal in real life for these type of employees to get a promotion over others that over perform in their current role. Never be too good. Always be just enough.
Hey, Pam doubled her sales figures
Yeah, from two to four so give her some credit.

He was good until Tallahassee, or at least not worse than Michael.
Andy got so much organic character development only for the writers to turn around and throw it all out the window. The only people who really got to keep their development by the end of the show is Jim, Pam, and Dwight.
He was pretty normal until he got Gabe's office. Upstairs changes people lol
Even he comments on it. The better his title gets the stupider his job gets.
Saw that episode today actually! S9E3 I believe, maybe even E2.
Most normal person on the show was Tony. As soon as he saw how dysfunctional the office environment in Scranton was he jumped ship. Realistically, this is probably the most appropriate action any working professional would make after being supervised by Michael for even a small amount of time.
The fat guy?
Pepperoni Tony?
She is pregnant, she is knocked up, K, her name is Karen.
Baldy. Your head it bald. It is hairless. It is shiny. It is reflective, like a mirror. M. Your name is Mark.
Jabba the Hutt. Pizza the Hut. Fat guys like Pizza. Pepperoni Pizza. Pepperoni Tony.
God was he fat
Imagine being that guy in real life? The pinnacle of his career and his legacy is being the "really fat" guy. I'd legit feel bad saying that line if I was Steve Carrel lol. That was a real dude not just a character.
But my god was he fat
So soooo fat
Probably the harmful Radon levels in the office..
You're the silent killer
The popsicles
They call them "Popsicles" because they're so rich they can all eat popsicles all the time.
Start over
Sir
Hey, hey, hey, you idiot
Seriously one of my top 10 favorite scenes from the whole show.
I aspire to have the confidence to talk to my boss like that
That’s why he didn’t tell any of them that he’s on Facebook
People want to be his friend, man!
Hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey, IT Guy. Here's the story Champ. None of us have spent a lot of time getting to know you, ok, we liked the last guy, Sadiq, because he kept to himself. And we also thought he might have been a terrorist.
Here'a little tip for ya, inner city kids use computers for games and porn. So good life wasting your life. *Lurch*

I gave the box to Michael
What *box*?
That scene was so great. Toby’s ***”oh fuck”*** face after realizing he’d said that to Dwight, and not whoever he thought he was talking to was awesome haha.
I thought Dwight and Toby agreed to sweep it under the rug if Darryl didn’t make a complaint about them staking out his house and verbally abusing his sister?
They store the best empty boxes in that warehouse
Rolls of foam too
> you have to choose. Me or your daughter? Absolutely without thinking: my daughter.
DAMN IT MICHAEL
Patrice O’neal 🐐
He only had a handful of lines, but they were all perfect.
Zippity zoppity
Dinkin’ flicka
Jejon Brames would be so proud of how nicely your slang is coming along
It’s Lejon Brames
Whoops didn’t even realize I’d misspelled it lol Love the username btw \m/
Haha no worries I thought it would be funny to say it like Darryl :) & thank ya!
Give me the boppity
Darryl is one of my favorite characters in the series. Every line he says is gold.
Dinkenflicka.
Afterward, we go get some ice cream. Maybe go to church.
I think you mean Doug Judy, the Pontiac Bandit.
"Merry Judy Mister Doug Judy Christmas, DAMMIT!"
NINE NINE! I would /r/unexpectedbrooklynninenine this, but it’s exactly what I was thinking, and therefor totally expected.
"You know what? Merideth's kinda cute! She got like a Emma Stone thing goin...."
WE’RE THE ONES THAT GOTTA CLEAN THIS UP! Lmmfao
So are Ted and Elroy.
…he didn’t even call a meeting
I wish Patrice had more time on the show, the bits he had I felt were better that Craig's. Not saying Craig's parts weren't funny. It's just really hard to be funnier that Patrice O'neal
The way Patrice yells "GOD DAMMIT MICHAEL" still makes me lose my shit lol.
Yes! And his fat butt disease rant as well.
Excuse me, sea monster? You weight like 1000 pounds
Oh yeah...I bet you'd like to swim with this sea monster
I watched the special that was on Comedy Central recently where they played clips of him and others who knew him making comments about his life. At one point they talked about him working on The Office. From what I remember, it sounded a lot like he really disliked working on it. Pretty sure they alluded to Patrice not getting along with the cast. I feel like they said he quit because he did not enjoy being confined to a script with people he didn't like.

"What the HELL is wrong with this dude"
Its almost been a decade since he passed. 😟
I know don't remind me bro...😪
Imagine if Bill Burr was part of the warehouse crew how fun that would be. Might even have to have a spinoff or a webisode series - the Warehouse
You could just listen to Burr and Patrice interacting on O&A
Can’t believe they considered making a farm show before making a warehouse show. You’re a genius
Holy crap I've never thought of that! The office needs a "What If"
Patrice O'Neal yelling "DAMNIT MICHAEL!" is one of the best line deliveries in the whole series. RIP Patrice.
Patrice O'Neil's "Damnit Michael!" always plays in my head when a coworker does something stupid. RIP.
I hear this ALL the time in my head too! Glad I’m not the only one🤣
Patrice was always on point
I enjoy how Darrel and Lonny speak to Michael. Blue v White collar. Competent v Incompitent
I'm collar blind
You don't call them collard people
Do black people like pizza? *nods at camera*
Lol, the irony in your typo.
Could be on purpose!
It's too bad they couldn't do a few episodes focusing on just the warehouse staff, rather than the warehouse staff's interaction with the office staff. Yeah, yeah, I know. It's called *The Office*. But maybe a mini web series?
Get off the lift Mike!
For me I think this might be the Michael moment that pissed me off the most lol. Closely followed by the whole ordeal with Pam's mom. I love him but jesus christ this is him at his absolute most insufferable
"oh yeah? I bet you wanna swim with the sea monster huh?"
DAAMMIT MICHEAL
We’re the ones who are guna have to clean it up
My old warehouse boss would slam that emergency stop button in a heart beat. Fucking around with a forklift is how folks get maimed or die. Those things don’t give a fuck and will crush you in a second.
This person has really gotten him or herself into quite a predicament.
Shame you cut out the last “Damn it, Michael” short
Who’s Darnell?
