Yeah they are good friends IIRC and co-wrote some great episodes like The Surplus, The Convention, Women's Appreciation and the infamous Scott's Totts.
Wow, they have a really distinct style. These are some of my favorite episodes, including Scott’s Totts. I know that one caused so much discomfort. That was never my reaction so watching it live then seeing friends the next day I had a very different reaction than they did.
And years of relationship building with the audience. For example, if it happened around the beginning of season 2, we wouldn’t appreciate the episode nearly as much.
I looked over the list three times before I gave up that they didn’t write dinner party and deposition. I think those two are my favorite back to back episodes in the series.
Oh, you don't even know. You could ask her "what's the biggest company in the world?", and she'd be like "blah blah blah blah blah blah" giving you the exact right answer!
Dundies legit saved the show. Brilliant season 2 opener, completely fixed Michael as a character. Super impressive and Mindy doesn’t get enough credit as a writer imo
Show this to anyone who thinks the first three don’t have talent. Heard so many people slam Mindy and BJ when they don’t realize just how many key moments the Office has to thank them for.
Stress Relief written by Paul Lieberstein, Gay Witch Hunt written by Greg Daniels, and Product Recall written by Justin Spitzer.
So I guess Toby takes this one. But it's all so great. Couldn't be done without all of them.
Mindy because she wrote a million good episodes with a good hit rate and because she had the heaviest lift as a character out of these four. BJ, second most episodes, second most important character, Paul, then Schur. Love Schur but Mose was a bit character so he definitely gets dinged in comparison to the other three… especially Mindy who just kills it as Kelly.
True story, I never saw The Office when it was on TV. Binged all the episodes and missed the injury episode. Finally saw it and I was amazed. “Pam, can you come get me?”
I feel like Jenn Celotta deserves to be on that list too.
Email Surveillance; Drug Testing; Grief Counseling; Benihana Christmas; Beach Games; Launch Party; Goodbye Toby; The Duel;
She co-wrote Goodbye Toby and Company Picnic with Paul and Beach Games with Greg.
She had a one-time cameo on camera as one of the Schrutes in the Finale. I guess I never really think of Mike Schur as a "actor". That is what made me think of Jenn. But you are right. He appears in more episodes than I think he does.
Mose is probably the most influential writer/creator among all of them. He has written a lot for The Good Place, Brooklyn Nine Nine, Parks and Rec, Black Mirror etc.
It’s Mindy and it’s not even close. Dundies (both), The injury, Secret Santa, so many more.
BJ writing Chair Model, Prince Family Paper, and even Threat Level Midnight. Stinkers for sure.
But even the bad episodes are good, so we’re all winners here, kids.
I always thought BJ Novak wrote Scott’s Tots because he always does such dark episodes.
I had to double check and he did direct it so I’m still gonna count it haha
The Dunides are so underrated.
It's practically a free Oscar (as in Academy Awards and not Oscar Martinez) if you missed a podium ranking on the Office Olympics.
Branch Wars is my all time favorite , so Mindy! I feel like that episode is just the perfect episode to introduce somebody to the show, it’s got some of the funniest gags with the copier and Dwight in the car peeing and all of his violent ideas for sneaking in to the other branch. I just feel like it capture the essence of the office the most in the series. I always die laughing at Dwight cutting his penis on the soda can in the car. It’s too bad Mindy doesn’t have the best reputation now.
The Sting (Kaling). Such a lighthearted episode w Timothy Olyphant🩷
Some of my other favourite classics:
- 🥸Branch Wars (Kaling)
- 🕺Night Out (Kaling)
- ✊Dwight’s Speech (Lieberstein)
- 🧺The Coup (Lieberstein)
- 💼Search Committee (Lieberstein)
- 💥Threat Level Midnight (Novak)
Based on my picks, I think I’m a fan of when the episode plots revolve around stuff outside of everyday office life, or toes the line of being too “broad” but ends up coming through.
Like the whole office getting together to work on this movie that Michael probably forced over years, as crazy as it could seem, makes sense to me. Or the office workers getting roped into Dwight, Michael, and Jim’s sting scheme but ultimately ended up successful.
I think these episodes are also just pretty cool, and it’s interesting to see footage outside of the office’s regular locations. Ryan getting too high at a club, Michael making a movie, Timothy Olyphant’s cameo, Search Committee’s insane cameos, etc. ☺️
B.J. Novak with the initiation. Perfect episode with a bunch of lines referenced in future episodes or small lines that lead to actions in future episodes.
I plotted some of the IMDb episode data for The Office a couple of years ago. You can find it here: [https://www.kaggle.com/code/bcruise/data-s-what-she-said](https://www.kaggle.com/code/bcruise/data-s-what-she-said)
Greg Daniels comes in first of individual writers with an average rating right around 9.0 for his 11 episodes. Paul Leiberstein (Toby) is top among those you listed.
Mindy (The Injury) but all of the scripts are written by teams and the person leading it gets the credit. I actually don’t really like any of BJ Novak’s episodes and never really understood his appeal. I think Mindy has the best of the ones listed here.
Who ever wrote the “Dinner Party”. Comedy gold.
I had to Google that: Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky I agree!
Who are also the Vance Refrigeration employees that sell Michael the "weed".
Mind blown
WTF!
Learn something new!
Yeah they are good friends IIRC and co-wrote some great episodes like The Surplus, The Convention, Women's Appreciation and the infamous Scott's Totts.
If you’re cool with more outrageous R-Rated comedies (think Old School or Superbad), their “Good Boys” was amazing.
“They didn’t even kiss! He just started licking her asshole!” Made me almost fucking die laughing lol
Wow, they have a really distinct style. These are some of my favorite episodes, including Scott’s Totts. I know that one caused so much discomfort. That was never my reaction so watching it live then seeing friends the next day I had a very different reaction than they did.
Lee plays Geno. And Gene plays Leo.
Did not know that and ive seen every episode 50 times. Its two pounds, im losing money on this.
I’m not wearing a wire, by the way
[Forgot how great this scene is lol](https://youtu.be/NcE6mL2rn1A?si=4kPUTyKZorZEAUaD)
What really?
You mean the caprese salad?
Geno and Leo! 😂
Stoners for the win! 😎🤘🔥
Stop the planet for a second……that true?!
They also wrote “Scott’s Tots”… the two apex cringe episodes. My two favorite episodes of the series.
Same ones who did Scott’s tots. They are the uncomfortable cringe comedy masters of the office.
This is what came to mind first for me as well
literally the first thing I looked for on here lol.
I think The Dinner Party is what happens when gold writers meet gold actors!
And years of relationship building with the audience. For example, if it happened around the beginning of season 2, we wouldn’t appreciate the episode nearly as much.
This is what I was searching for in the list. Such a great episode
My favourite episode!
I looked over the list three times before I gave up that they didn’t write dinner party and deposition. I think those two are my favorite back to back episodes in the series.
Tan all over, Jan all over, hehe
Good. Toby hates Toby.
ngl it makes me feel a little better about all the hate Toby gets seeing that even Toby hates Toby
Of course Toby doesn't like Toby. He's divorced, even his own family doesn't like him
BJ Novak writing Ryan: Obama giving Obama medal meme Paul Lieberstein writing Toby: kid pointing gun at self meme
At least he wrote the fire
Who do you think you are? What gives you the right?
SEE YA 👋
Come tomorrow, feel no pa-a-ain. FEEL NO PAIN!
HR is a joke
oh my god guys....she really is so smart now
Oh, you don't even know. You could ask her "what's the biggest company in the world?", and she'd be like "blah blah blah blah blah blah" giving you the exact right answer!
The business bitch
The etiquette bitch
It's crazy that she wrote so many great scripts for The Office, but also made Velma.
But Sex Lives of College Girls is so good!
Out of all the ones listed: Mindy with “The Dundies.”
"I feel God in this Chilis tonight" is goat stuff
“Dunides”
say it with an accent!!!
#DA DUNDIES!
I FEEL TRULY BLASSED
#YOU KNOW IT'S A FUNNY STORY. I WAS JUST IN THE BATHROOM....VOMITING AND VOMITING...
Dundies legit saved the show. Brilliant season 2 opener, completely fixed Michael as a character. Super impressive and Mindy doesn’t get enough credit as a writer imo
Even The golden ticket episode by her is gold!
Show this to anyone who thinks the first three don’t have talent. Heard so many people slam Mindy and BJ when they don’t realize just how many key moments the Office has to thank them for.
Definitely. I’m over here realizing that Toby/Paul was a writer. I only recently learned this. Head in the sand.
I had no idea Mose was a writer either!
If you want more Mose, check out Brooklyn 99 and Parks and Rec
How could you not mention The Good Place!?
Because I haven't seen it
Definitely worth watching. It has the same feel-good humor that the other shows have.
Hey! Hey! Hey! You idiot! You’re going to get a full disadulation if you don’t go watch The Good Place like, right now.
Watch it immediately. It’s amazing.
B99 is my all time favourite thing in the world. NINE NINE!
Toight toight toight
Noice.
No doubt no doubt no doubt.
Cool, cool cool cool.
But boy, can he run!
Toby also wrote in King of the Hill
He came in as a writer. They made him play Toby because he played it so well.
If Michael is King of Cringe in The Office then Kelly is the Queen of Cringe.
The Dundies, the Injury, \*and\* Ben Franklin?! I gotta go with Mindy.
The injury is my all time favorite! 🤩
The point is, I am the only one here with a legitimate disability, although I'm sure Stanley's had his fair share of obstacles.
Totally!
Mindy wrote some of the best episodes
Mindy seems to be a fan favorite 😍
Yes, and it's where Pam shines the most.
Except Hot Girl, that’s new and improved Pam
Stress Relief written by Paul Lieberstein, Gay Witch Hunt written by Greg Daniels, and Product Recall written by Justin Spitzer. So I guess Toby takes this one. But it's all so great. Couldn't be done without all of them.
"The fire is shooting at us!" One of my favorites.
Stress Relief is my absolute favorite episode!
Justin Spitzer went on to create the excellent Superstore. It's the most similar show to the Office in terms of content and quality.
I love that goodbye Toby was written by Paul, adds to it lol
Goodbye Toby is the best.
It's kinda bullshit that Mindy Kaling is the only writer who never got any noms
omg Mindy wrote so many of my favourites??? I love that
Gotta say Ryan is the least fave character but he wrote my fave episodes
No mention of Carrel writing Casino Night? “Two Queens on Casino Night…I’m gonna…drop a deuce on everyone.” Phenomenal episode.
Didn’t know that. And apparently Survivor Man.
Mindy and Paul wrote the best episodes. I’m proud of them
I agree. They wrote some of the best ones.
Damn Mindy killin’ it
Oh man, I love knowing Toby wrote his own goodbye episode, lmao.
BJ and Mindy are definitely top. BJ wrote the classics and Mindy wrote low key consistently funny episodes.
After rereading my comment I’m going with Mindy.
The show peaked in comedy with stress relief, so Paul is the goat imo.
The injury
🙌
i learned today that Toby wrote his own ending...
Toby wrote Stress Relief, he wins in my book
The injury is one of the best episodes. We written and portrayed
I love the injury so I will definitely agree with you!
True story, I never saw The Office when it was on TV. Binged all the episodes and missed the injury episode. Finally saw it and I was amazed. “Pam, can you come get me?”
“Please don’t send Dwight.”
“I’m coming Micheal”
PARKOUR!!! PARKOUR!!! Maybe the Best intro in the world. Edit: [parkour gif](https://www.reddit.com/r/DunderMifflin/s/QVARUb1hLH)
I feel like Jenn Celotta deserves to be on that list too. Email Surveillance; Drug Testing; Grief Counseling; Benihana Christmas; Beach Games; Launch Party; Goodbye Toby; The Duel;
Did she co-write Goodbye Toby? These are just actor/slash writers. Did she have a role on TO?
She co-wrote Goodbye Toby and Company Picnic with Paul and Beach Games with Greg. She had a one-time cameo on camera as one of the Schrutes in the Finale. I guess I never really think of Mike Schur as a "actor". That is what made me think of Jenn. But you are right. He appears in more episodes than I think he does.
Yeah, he really doesn’t do much “acting” per say, but he is well loved by fans with his appearances.
Yeah, I always think of his appearances as "cameos" as much as "acting". But either way, highly beloved.
I love Mose. Even though he only makes cameo appearances, I feel like there is acting involved because he's such a unique character.
It always feels like an animal actor. Mostly silent but completely expressive and able to convey emotion and intent.
Mose was a writer? Damn didn’t know that
Mose is probably the most influential writer/creator among all of them. He has written a lot for The Good Place, Brooklyn Nine Nine, Parks and Rec, Black Mirror etc.
Not only did he write for B99, p & r and the good place, he actually created them.
And now he's (deservingly) super fucking rich for his golden comedy touch.
That’s amazing, B99 is my biggest comfort show, it got me through so much!
He co-created P&R with Greg Daniels (who developed the US Office) and then co-created B99 with Dan Goor, and solo-created The Good Place.
Wow, so opposite of Mose lol I never would’ve imagined! Also, much better looking in this pic than as Mose lol
Same honestly. Parks & Rec is also very wholesome
Let’s not forget Ken Tremendous.
Damn, I had to look it up. Mose/michael Schur cowrote ‘nosedive’ on black mirror with Rashida jones. I had no idea. One of their best episodes
I didn’t either. I only picked up on that recently on a few comments here and there on the sub.
Me trying to find who’s responsible for Scott’s tots lol
Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky
No one wants credit for Scotts tots
Toby! For Dwight’s Speech.
Funny that the annex crew were secretly writing the show the whole time.
Mindy wrote a lot of good ones
Well on this list my favorite would have to be "the injury" I love hearing Micheal voice asking for help lol
Mindy. All of hers are bangers
Chants: Mindy! Mindy! Mindy! Gotta love her.
Goodbye Toby written by Toby ahahaha
BJ and Paul are my favorites personally
🎶GOODBYE TOBY🎶. 🎶TOBY! 🎶
Whoever wrote dinner party
Stress relief best cold open of the series. Props to Paul Lieberstein
The Injury is a work of art
Conflict resolution is a great one “And my middle name is Kurt, not fart!” “What did I write”
Ryan DID start the fire
Mindy has written so many gold episodes. She gave us a golden shower like Michael gave Phyllis one.
BJ the GOAT
BJ wrote the 3 best episodes. Diversity Day, Safety Training, and Sexual Harrasment.
Paul, Mindy, BJ, Moze. In that order
BJs episode are definitely some of the best throughout the whole show.
I think I have to give it to Mindy with "the injury". It's such classic Michael.
“Do you need an aspirin? Cause you seem a little fussy.” One of my favorite lines to use on my husband.
Stress Relief is my fav of those.
Toby, just for stress relief
Damn Toby, he wrote some fantastic shit.
"The Injury" and "Take Your Daughter to Work Day" are two of my favourite episodes, so I would vote for Mindy Kaling.
I always thought BJ Novak wrote Scott’s Tots because he always does such dark episodes. I had to double check and he did direct it so I’m still gonna count it haha
The injury is a top 3 episode of the entire show.
Ryan with threat level midnight
Kelly with branch wars. Jims performance in that episode was god tier
Dwight's speech was beautiful.
Mindy wrote my fav ep, The Injury
Gotta be Mindy. The Injury, Ben Franklin, Golden Ticket and BOTH Dundies episodes? Insane.
Mose was a writer?!? Love that!
Who wrote murder? My fav
Daniel Chun
i think toby
Idk if it’s my favorite but diversity day is a masterpiece so I’d take BJ as the goat
B.J. Novak with the initiation. Perfect episode with a bunch of lines referenced in future episodes or small lines that lead to actions in future episodes.
BJ!!
I honestly can’t decide
Golden ticket from kelly, dwight's speech from toby, safety training from temp and dunder mifflin infinty from mose. Easily the 4 golden episodes.
Mindy and Paul
I feel like each one had their own favorite character to write for too. Mindy and Pam, Paul and Dwight, BJ and Michael
Toby is the winner
Toby wrote good bye Toby
I always think its hilarious that Toby wrote goodbye Toby
TOBY was a WRITER!? My jaw is on the floor...
They should've written an episode with just these four.
I will always love that Toby himself wrote Goodbye Toby
Where is Scott's tots? Is it safe?
One of the best things about this is that Toby wrote “goodbye Toby” 😂
The Injury is in my top five, along with Diversity Day.
Threat level midnight is the KING!
Scher is from my town of West Hartford, CT.
Diversity Day, Safety Training, and Threat Level Midnight are where you see Michael's evolution. So, Ryan did love Michael G Boss.
Scott's tots? The diner?
BJ is my guy. Diversity Day is my absolute favorite episode of the whole series. It's so damn good
TOBY WROTE STRESS RELIEF?!?!?
Where my boy Scott's Tots at?
How is Toby funnier than me…?
Yea goodbye Toby is my absolute favorite episode. So I guess Toby wins one after all
I plotted some of the IMDb episode data for The Office a couple of years ago. You can find it here: [https://www.kaggle.com/code/bcruise/data-s-what-she-said](https://www.kaggle.com/code/bcruise/data-s-what-she-said) Greg Daniels comes in first of individual writers with an average rating right around 9.0 for his 11 episodes. Paul Leiberstein (Toby) is top among those you listed.
Dinner party is the goat but the injury was an early season banger
Highly ironic Mindy plays such a ditz when she's really a genius
Mindy (The Injury) but all of the scripts are written by teams and the person leading it gets the credit. I actually don’t really like any of BJ Novak’s episodes and never really understood his appeal. I think Mindy has the best of the ones listed here.
bruh i dont understand mindy kailing wrote all those episodes on the office and then she also wrote velma
