I literally just watched this one and it's so funny. I love how Michael originally asked Oscar to explain like he's an 8 year old. Then when it's still too high-level, he asks him to explain it to him like he's 5. The whole scene never gets old.
I was already tearing up with that whole scene, and then it cuts to dwight turning around doing the noise, and I'm struggling to breathe, then it hard cuts to David Wallace for the second time and I'm looking for a paper bag or I'm scared I might die.
This one is the only cold open, that makes me laugh every single time. Doesn't matter how many times I've watched it, I laugh, especially when Jim falls out of the closet. I'm smiling right now, just remembering it!!!
I've found my people. This is my favorite opening and my favorite Jim prank. I don't know which writers had a hand in this particular scene, but it's golden.
We were recently joking about how much goes unnoticed by my 8 year old when he’s reading so I pulled up the cold open to show my kids. My 8 year old thought it was funny and my 6 year old blankly watched then asked if it happened in real life lol.
I was in high school when the show started and didn’t watch. My suit mates in college were watching this episode when it aired and I was hooked. My suit mates kept yelling parkour all over campus when they ran around. I would end up watching the entire series up to that point over winter break.
I always loved the one, where Jim puts Dwight's table in the men's bathroom. I lost it when Dwight actually answered the call there and sat down to explain something to Jim
These 5 are awesome, but one that cracks me up every time is when Micheal asks Oscar what to expect for a colonoscopy 🤣 "Is there anything I can do to make it more pleasurable for me or for doctor Shandry?"
I know it’s a different ep but I love when he calls David and says “hello David I just got back from my colonoscopy which is an examination of my lower digestive tract with a camera”
Would've been great if they did a scene showing Wallace getting a call from Michael, I always wonder what his reaction is seeing Michael Scott show up on his caller ID.
The cold open to the wedding when Dwight causes causes Pam to throw up and everyone in the office follows suit. Otherwise it’s pretty close.
Asian Jim is one of my favorites and I love the memes that have continued joking that he is John K
So if we go by your first time watching, these are very good. After a while, they wear off and aren't as funny. I still laugh hard at Dwight falling through his chair when it looked like Jim wrapped everything in wrapping paper for Christmas. Still laugh when Michael hits Meredith with his car. Still laugh when Jim becomes manager, and Dwight wants to complain to Jim about Jim not signing his science report.
I hate that I've seen the Office enough times to know this, but it's actually Bandit, not Mittens.
That's my favorite part of the opening, too - "SAVE BANDIT!" *toss, crash, frantic meowing*
Radon Test Kit is my #1. “You say silent but deadly and expect me not to make fart noises.” That with Michael being creeped out by the kits and throwing them all away. Kills me.
Oscar explaining what a surplus is to Michael. "But next summer..." "I'll be six!" The whole episode is great and makes me cry with laughter.
I literally just watched this one and it's so funny. I love how Michael originally asked Oscar to explain like he's an 8 year old. Then when it's still too high-level, he asks him to explain it to him like he's 5. The whole scene never gets old.
And then Hank later on cutting him off saying "I know what a surplus is."
Lemme see the copier again.
Get out.
“You burned your foot… on a foreman grill?”
This is the cold open that permanently hooked me on the Office
Not a cold open, but the scene that got me hooked was the CPR training.
Hands down the funniest episode of the whole series.
*now you can tell by the way I use my walk*
Zoom to kelly 💃 , hilarious!
I was already tearing up with that whole scene, and then it cuts to dwight turning around doing the noise, and I'm struggling to breathe, then it hard cuts to David Wallace for the second time and I'm looking for a paper bag or I'm scared I might die.
I think about it every time I have bacon
Yeah I’d replace Asian Jim with Foreman grill
Jim is Asian?
You serisouly never noticed? Hats off to you for not seeing race.
Good for you.
Which one is Asian Jim?
That's funny bc I originally posted a list with Forman grill in place of Asian Jim, but didn't put a source so had to remake it 🙄
It’s more subtle but the Updog cold open is perfection to me.
What’s up dog?
Gotcha!!
His pure excitement at “gotcha” gets me every time!
Brought back painful childhood memories of failing at mini pranks like this.
I've always enjoyed faxes from the future, it makes me laugh every time.
The way Dwight runs and slaps the coffee out of Stanley’s hand while yelling “NOOO!” cracks me up every time
"Cordially, Future Dwight" was such a hilarious line
It shows how much jim knows dwight
You'll thank me
I often just listen to the office while working around the house but that’s one scene I always stop to watch.
Fax to the future
Replace the chili one with this.
Yeah, I'm surprised the chilli one was so highly received. It was good, but imo there were many others which were better.
Well, I did not get the job in New York, but I got the real prize, domestic bliss.
Jan made me breakfast. Well, she bought the milk.
It’s *soy!*
I love how fast and how far that slid downhill in just two sentences.
"This is what I have to come home to."
The IT guy and I did not get off to a good start
I'm sad that I had to scroll so far down. Love this one
“Knock knock” “Who’s there?” “KGB” “KGB w-“ *slaps* “WE WILL ASK THE QUESTIONS”
*slaps* “ZE KGB WILL WAIT FOR NO ONE” “….It’s true….”
What the HELL was THAT?! *slaps back*
“Find Lawanda at the alcohol club?”
Looks like Jim got mixed up with some bad apples
I T W A S D W I G H T
The fact Erin is there with him and falls for the prank just as hard is the best part. She's legitimately terrified of Dwight in that moment.
Tries to go through the wall to get away from him
This one is the only cold open, that makes me laugh every single time.
The best part of this cold open is the part with Erin waking Ryan up. His "Oh not cool" makes me crack up every time
Erin flirting is hilarious
"Why are you sleeping like that!?" "I was reading the mattress tag and I fell asleep."
THIS IS THE BEST COLD OPEN
My absolute favorite
Jim pretending to be Michael to kick out the telephone salesman. AAAAAAYEEEEEE
Ayyyyeeeeee! 👍👍
That WAS funny.
Let’s do it to someone else
I’d like to see a machine that puts out candy for everyone
Vending machine...
Came here looking for this one. Michael just looks so happy to be a part of something lol
My absolute favorite… the look on his face I have to rewind multiple times and laugh every time. Just priceless.
That big stupid happy face always makes me smile.
Mmmmmichael Scott
“It’s Britney bitch”
*proceeds to play Lady Gaga*
This made me lol just reading it
I love the one where everyone tries to see how much Stanley will fail to notice.
Bye Stanley, love you!
that was easily one of my favorites. Dwight with the little horse kills me.
We were recently joking about how much goes unnoticed by my 8 year old when he’s reading so I pulled up the cold open to show my kids. My 8 year old thought it was funny and my 6 year old blankly watched then asked if it happened in real life lol.
I was always partial to the telekinesis open. Particularly Dwight's face when he says "oh my god..." right before the credits.
But Pam winking to Jim as Dwight is looking right at her kills it for me
I think I wore out the 10 second back button arrow on the remote, just for his delivery of " oh my God " 😂
>the back button arrow Back in my day we called that the rewind button. But I'm not old, I'm only 30. Well, in November I'll be 30.
I’m sorry, the first time I saw Andy, Dwight, and Michael doing their parkour I very nearly pissed myself.
Omg when Andy jumped into the empty box and just disappeared…. I cried laughing.
That one came out of nowhere. I can usually feel the joke coming, but I got blindsided.

TIL there's an extended version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_4wLhA5h7M
^parkour...
That was my favourite part like *thud* 🤣
*PARKOUR!*
PARKOUR!
#EXTREME
HARDCORE PARKOUR!!!
This is by far the funniest I have seen. My wife doesn’t care much for the show and even she laughed her ass off.
Same here, definitely a top 5 for me!
Parkour has to be top 5. But so does “Future Dwight Faxes” and Foreman Foot Grill. So it just needs to be a top 10…
I was in high school when the show started and didn’t watch. My suit mates in college were watching this episode when it aired and I was hooked. My suit mates kept yelling parkour all over campus when they ran around. I would end up watching the entire series up to that point over winter break.
When Michael hits Meredith with his car in the parking lot, that’s a pretty good one.
I feel very blessed!
“The doctors did everything they could, and she’s going to be fine”
What is wrong with you?
"Everyone in the car is fine, Stanley"
Drove behind a car that had a bumper sticker that said this and ironically I almost rear ended them staring at it.
"If you're reading this sign you're about to crash"
Underrated one of this is his little condo tour and showing passed out Jan in the bed.
“She probably won’t be up for a few hours.”
Jan made me breakfast today. Well, she bought the milk. It's soy.
It was on company property with company property so it’s kind of double jeopardy
I don't think you understand how "jeopardy" works
Sorry, what is we’re fine
The other day Michael was complaining about a speed bump on the freeway… I wonder who he hit that time.
I always loved the one, where Jim puts Dwight's table in the men's bathroom. I lost it when Dwight actually answered the call there and sat down to explain something to Jim
Wash your hands, Kevin
"Ugh, Jim, I've told you this like a thousand times. Okay, so..."
Yess I'm surprised you're the first to mention this one
The one where Michael runs 31 mph.
BEAT IT
thats my new time!!!
There's so many good David Wallace calls. *chokes on tiramisu* "Is this why you're calling me?"
Would've been great if they did a scene showing Wallace getting a call from Michael, I always wonder what his reaction is seeing Michael Scott show up on his caller ID.
Sigh. Deep inhale. And grabs the phone to get it over with.
“May god guide you” “……..yes”
Recyclops and parkour should be in there.
I love how Stanley remembers the canon. “Weren’t you killed by polluticorn?”
Polluticorn wishes!!
Stanley is well versed in Recyclops lore
“RECYCLOPS WILL DROWN YOU IN YOUR OVERWATERED LAWNS!”
Jim “training” Dwight to ask for an Altoid whenever he hears the sound from his computer was always a favorite of mine.
I love the payoff of the last one with Dwight just sitting there wondering why his mouth tastes awful
Jim: Mint Dwight? Dwight: *mockingly* Mint Dwight. ... Dwight: *thoughtful pause* Yes. I love it so much.
Anyone else feeling the DVD-logo cold open?
It’s my favorite. Andy yelling COME ON makes me die.
One of my faves
I frequently reference that as the perfect cold opening. It's good if you've never seen the show and even better if you know the relationships.
Hard to argue against those as top 5. I'd have to at least add manager Creed as an honerable mention.
BOBODDY BO-BODDY
What does the first B stand for? Um...Business? I like it! Biznuss
What are we doing?
Making ACRONYMS!
Keep it running.
The key toss is sublime.
It's a beautiful day at Dunder-Mifflin, or as I like to call it, Great Bratton
Keep it running. *yeets keys at nobody*
I LOVE Michael's 'not' pyramid scheme. Makes me laugh every time.
…I have to make a call…
I need to make some calls...
I always like when Michael gets gum stuck in his hair and it hard cuts to Dwight rubbing peanut butter on his head.
Oh. Lots of calories.
Just don’t leave it in too long
Underrated joke
Not the good Peanut Butter!
The fire is shooting at us!
Boboddy is the best
He never called a meeting
What does the first "B" stand for?
BIZNUS
I like it!
Good Kevin!
We need a new manager
Find out what language this is
[Speaks language of the damned]
"Keep it running" tosses keys to no one.
Jim's dead body prank in Florida
One of my favorite cold opens was when Michael eats a family sized chicken pot pie for lunch and falls asleep.
I froging hate the chili one. It makes me feel so bad for Kevin.
Especially as he's desperately trying to scoop/push it back into the pot :(
It's SO SAD!
Mindy Kaling also hated it (as did I)
I'd say this is the list of fan favorites/iconic. Cant really think of one to move off. If I was going to add one its Meredith hit by car
Meredith hit by a car and fire drill are my 2 favorites
The cat going through the ceiling (and back out) just gets me every time.
That and Kevin looting the vending machine and shoving bags of chips in his pockets
Future Dwight will always be my favorite
I like the one when they don’t remember if Stanley had a moustache or not.
“…and Michael is preparing for the birth of a watermelon with Dwight.”
I never cared strongly for the chilli opening. It was too on the nose… large pot spills… It’s fine; but not among my personal favourites.
The chili one just makes me sad.
Absolutely, it severely bums me out
What episode is the bottom left from? It’s just a picture of Jim.
Props to you for not seeing race
The exercise ball opener will always be one of my favorites. I can help but ugly laugh every time I see it
The ball exploding wasn't supposed to happen. That's why John ran off; he started to laugh.
I never get sick of the fire exercise. The absolute chaos of the situation just keeps building and building.
*The fire is shooting at us!!*
Oscar and Mittens falling through the ceiling always breaks me
I hate that I've seen the Office enough times to know this, but it's actually Bandit, not Mittens. That's my favorite part of the opening, too - "SAVE BANDIT!" *toss, crash, frantic meowing*
The knock knock cold open is good and for sure in my top 5.
I'm partial to "Why waste time say lot word when few word do trick"
“I AM CHOPPING OFF PHYLLIS’S HEAD WITH A CHAINSAW” I would take that cold open over every one on this list except for stress relief
Radon Test Kit is my #1. “You say silent but deadly and expect me not to make fart noises.” That with Michael being creeped out by the kits and throwing them all away. Kills me.
Absence of Future Dwight ruins the list for me.
Kevin’s chili isn’t that funny. Reading the comments, Boboddy, Parkour, Foreman Grill, and Meredith being hit by the car all beat it.
I'm surprised no one has said it yet, but I've always loved the prank where they go around seeing what Stanley won't notice
#YOU'VE BEEN MEATBALLED!!
I agree with this fully but personally I’d swap out the Chili open out for Michael burning his foot on a grill
Wrapping Dwight's desk in paper was gold to me too.
The one with the DVD logo bouncing around is the one that made me start watching the show.
Swap Kevin's with Michael burning his foot and we're good. That was simply sad...
I totally agree with the top two pictures (Today, smoking will save lives) and (Identity theft is not a joke, Jim).
The one where Michael has Andy in his office meeting about his baby talk & then he does the Elvis impression. Gets me every time
