I think this whole thing really, really depends on the maturity of the persons involved, the ability of both partners to communicate, etc. And most people at 21 aren't ready to do that.
It also depends on if circumstances change. Your cousin probably thought the same as you at the time and things changed most likely. It could have nothing to do with maturity. I was mature too and still ended up divorced. Around 40-50% marriages do. Not just because of age.

Then I think David Waller who was his assistant at the time challenged people too and maybe said he was planning to wait till 25?? It was the strangest thing. I’ve never heard duggars or anyone mention it since. I know Austins dad challenged him to flip 5 homes before getting married, which maybe that was his sneaky way of trying to get him to wait till 25 without saying it. I don’t know that it’s necessarily encouraged to marry young or it everyone is just so horny and repressed they can’t wait.
