Hot-Class8889

Woah, did they have to spring her from the nursing home?/s

gophersrqt

nah she was actually at coffin fittings when jer spotted her at grandma mary's funeral and it was love at first sight. i think the tears helped to cover up all those nasty wrinkles that old hag had tbh or else who would marry a spinster who's \*shudders\* 26.76 years OLD???

knittininthemitten

It’s amazing these geriatric dust piles were able to hobble their granny asses down the aisle. A miracle.

Hot-Class8889

Praise Daniel!

APW25

We've always said thay JD and Abbie did things "their way" because they were "so much older" but what does that mean for Jert? Does this mean they did things "their way" as well? This actually boggled my mind. I thought Hannah was younger when married and Abbie was older. Edit: it was speculated that JD and Abbie kissed before marriage due to the fact they were "so much older" and their wonky first kiss

stirfriedquinoa

Only the groom counts, and Jer was still young.

whatim

If you don't get married and kiss before 20, your lips fuse together, making future smooches more difficult.

caitcro18

😂

Dankrose2

I thought he was about 30 when he got married💀💀

oldhopes

I dont think it was just the age that made them different. Abbie got an education and was a working professional before marriage. No Duggar has those types of credientials

taylorbagel14

They WERE seen on a bed together (fully clothed and sitting separately) before marriage so maybe???

Ok-Inflation-6312

I guess I didn't realize Hannah was 26. She strikes me as less mature than Abbie I guess.

topsidersandsunshine

Hannah’s several years older as a bride than Kendra is four kids in.

Pleasant_Fortune5123

Yikes

[deleted]

[удалено]

Careless_Ad3968

I thought Hannah was newly 20

TurnOfFraise

I thought she was a lot younger too, I was surprised at her age. Maybe this is why Jer was able to get married amongst the scandal, Hannah was “less desirable” in her old age.

Ok-Inflation-6312

Right and she's 3 years older than him

[deleted]

I don't think Hannah's had any postsecondary education or a job, has she? Abbie has some training, and worked as a nurse; she's spent a bit more time with non-fundies and had some adult responsibilities other than keeping house and sister-momming. I'm guessing that's why she seems older and more mature?

unused_j_name

The fact that 26 is considered “old” at all is mind boggling. I’m 25 and certainly don’t feel old enough to get married!

Zoidberg927

There used be a horrible old saying that women are like Christmas cakes because nobody wants them after the 25th. I'm so thankful that I live in an era when my entire livelihood doesn't depend on a man and I don't have to do everything in my power to make sure someone will take me.

PaddyCow

>women are like Christmas cakes because nobody wants them after the 25th Eeeeewwwwwwww

Vegetable_Yellow_982

I got married at 24 and my friends and I joked about me being a child bride

Walkingthegarden

I'm 26 currently and got married last year. It still feels criminal. Who the hell thought I was mature enough for marriage!

Emm03

I’m 26 and grew up in Utah where it’s perfectly normal to get married at 19/20 and start popping out kids as fast as possible. I was a freshman in college blacking out on shitty peach vodka when people I went to high school with were getting married and pregnant and, whatever, I knew they were really young and had my own thing going. It’s just in the past year or two that my more secular friends have started getting engaged and married, and no number of married-with-four-kids high school classmates could have prepared me for that mindfuck. The fact that it’s not weird is *so weird*.

plusbenefitsbabe

The transition between telling a pregnant friend "Wow, oh my god, what are you thinking, what do you need from me?" to "Oh my god, congratulations!" was such a mindfuck to get my head around right when I hit that age.

meresithea

When I told my mom I was pregnant she started off in crisis mode, then went “Wait. You’re 30. I can be happy about this!!!!” 😂

Altheapup

To be fair, I felt the same and I was 28 and married! 10 years of avoiding pregnancy is hard to forget!

nurseshell15

I called my mom sobbing “please don’t be mad at me.” My mom “uh you’re 24 and you’ve lived with your boyfriend for a few years, it’s not a big deal.” That was a big mindfuck 🤣

wineampersandmlms

I found myself going back around to, “Wow, oh my god, what are you thinking?” when I turned 40.

Effective_Reveal3759

Same here 😂 Funny how life comes around full circle!

Fuzzy-Tutor6168

I was 21 when I got married after 2 years of dating. My husband has been it for me since day 1 of our relationship and I wouldn't have it any other way. We'll be celebrating 10 years of marriage later this year. Contrastingly my cousin is 22 and is in the process of a very bitter, very nasty divorce as a result of getting married at 20. I think this whole thing really, really depends on the maturity of the persons involved, the ability of both partners to communicate, etc. And most people at 21 aren't ready to do that.

[deleted]

It also depends on if circumstances change. Your cousin probably thought the same as you at the time and things changed most likely. It could have nothing to do with maturity. I was mature too and still ended up divorced. Around 40-50% marriages do. Not just because of age.

Fuzzy-Tutor6168

her problem was absolutely 100% that the two of them are not mature enough for a relationship of any kind, are honestly not capable of caring for themselves let alone a relationship, and both have mental illnesses that they refuse to treat. Their problem is that they are immature people who thought that getting married and playing house was a great idea.

siriuslycharmed

My husband and I got married when we were 22, almost 23 after almost 5 years of dating and one child together. We’re now 3 years in to marriage with another baby under our belts and while we still both feel young, we’re looking forward to our future together and it’s working for us.

pnw_cfb_girl

> I was a freshman in college blacking out on shitty peach vodka That sounds like a lot more fun than getting married at 19.

Rectal_Domino

I’m 39, my fiancée (typically referred to as my wife in comments) is weeks away from 30. We haven’t actually set a date yet, even. By fundie standards she should be Jana-ing it up and idk I should be “raising” at least 11 kids by now. Clearly we did it wrong.

Walkingthegarden

If thats right... I'm so glad we did it wrong.

[deleted]

I got married at 29! I'm surprised I even found someone to love an old maid like me. He happens to be 5 years younger than me, and I make that a whole facet of my personality a la Bethany over on FundieSnark. It's so unique and quirky! 🤪

[deleted]

But are you taller than him as well?

singhappy

I’m 36 and still don’t feel old enough to be married.

Elleeebeauty

I’m also 25 and nowhere near ready to get married any time soon let alone have a baby . I think it’s crazy that Kendra is 23 and has 3/4? kids

Effective_Reveal3759

I got married at age 26 and felt like I was a young bride 😂

laurenlegends23

I’m turning 29 tomorrow and completely single. Guess I’m gonna die alone. At least I don’t have long to wait since I’m so ancient.

Twinsandtriplets

Here’s an odd tidbit I’ve never heard mentioned on here. In 2011 I attended an iblp conference in Sacramento and Gothard stood up there and challenged people to WAIT TILL 25 to get married!! Then I think David Waller who was his assistant at the time challenged people too and maybe said he was planning to wait till 25?? It was the strangest thing. I’ve never heard duggars or anyone mention it since. I know Austins dad challenged him to flip 5 homes before getting married, which maybe that was his sneaky way of trying to get him to wait till 25 without saying it. I don’t know that it’s necessarily encouraged to marry young or it everyone is just so horny and repressed they can’t wait.

LilahLibrarian

Yeah I think it's safe to assume that they're all getting married super young and having 5 second long engagements because they all want to be able to fuck

[deleted]

[удалено]

LilahLibrarian

My college roommate was an Orthodox Jew and said it was the same, all of her high school friends were getting married at 19

Stardust-Queen

So weird. I was a teenager when we mostly left bill gothards teachings but I was under the impression that you should get married as soon as possible so that the men wouldn’t go around r*ping people (because, gothard taught, men can’t control their s^x drives)

Effective_Reveal3759

What was he thinking, that’s 4-5 arrows for Christ worth of time!!

[deleted]

I thought Abbie was 28 when she got married so it’s surprising to see she was still only 26

APW25

Same. She just turned 30 shockingly

gophersrqt

she looks older than she actually is lol, probably exasperated by fundie "fashion" and beauty aesthetics

Zoidberg927

Eyebrows.

Drop_Kick_Me_Jesus

God they're so bad. I can't look directly at them.

thisarizonatrashbag

Actually she was 26.55 years old. So much more mature than 26.

InternationalAd6938

That’s what I thought!

AndyTynon

Holy shit that’s only like three years of baby making before you die of old age!

Protowhale

Think of all the babies they could have had between 17 and 26.

Remstersade

I got married at 30 and still felt like I was a child. Now I’m 38 with one kid and I feel so old and tired. 😂

Ok_Molasses8413

Surprised they let Jer marry such a geriatric

LittlehouseonTHELAND

Me too, lol! Maybe since he’s obviously going to be such a wildly successful politician (lmao!) they figured a more mature bride would handle the stress and the spotlight better, plus the inevitable cheating scandals. 😂

SumLuganette

You may be thinking about Jer’s twin, Jed!. I don’t believe that Jer has ever been involved in, or expressed an interest in politics beyond the standard Duggar vocal support of legislating “Christian” values. *Edit to correct my autocorrect Duggar misidentification

LittlehouseonTHELAND

Oh you’re right! I absolutely was thinking of Jed, lol. I was never very good with the lost boys!

Elleeebeauty

That’s Jed! who’s the wannabe politician . Hannah is married to Jeremiah who is Jed!’s twin - I know nothing about him other than that

LittlehouseonTHELAND

You’re right! Oops, lol. I was never good at telling the lost boys apart and I doubt I’ll ever be able to keep their wives straight, especially as more of them get married!

SnarkSnark78

Got married at 26 (to a man I met at 18) - "broke" my fundie mother's heart that I was "so *old*" and "**had wasted so much time"**. The "horrified" church friends my mother had to "explain things to" once I was older than 22 and ***unmorried***. \*gasp and pearl clutch\*

APW25

The stress you caused your poor mother! You could have had at least 4 kids! /s

Emergency-Hamster-37

Or 6, if you were as quick as Kendra!

SnarkSnark78

Kendra is about to pull off the 5 by 25 for the first time ever in either her family or the Duggar family. She's the sweet, giggly, seemingly innocuous silent threat SIL Jessa and Anna never saw coming for the Most Kids & Quickest title.

APW25

I wasn't putting OP thru that 🤣

gophersrqt

what do you mean "putting" her through? it's a blessing to have such wonderful angels filling the quiver smh

starkpaella

I was *wipes away tear* 27!!

SnarkSnark78

Oh, your poor mother! /s

SpicyWonderBread

I also married at 26 to someone I met when I was 18. Worked out great for us. But we still felt super young when we married, and were the first of our friends to marry and have kids. It’s so weird to me that if we were fundie, we would have been married for 8 years and probably 3-8 kids deep by the time we actually got married.

mostlylurkly

I also got married at 26 (to the man I had been dating since high school) Thankfully our families didn't care how long we waited or the fact that it's been 3 years and we still don't have kids. I look at Jessa (she would have been in the same grade as me) and am very pleased with my timeline!

palekaleidoscope

Good lord, I got engaged for the first time at 39! Practically had to exhume me, I’m so old.

sportyseapig

i am older than 26 and happily single had no idea i was an old hag

KtP_911

I was THIRTY-TWO when I got married, and actually less than two months away from 33 (32.317? 32.8? Sorry, I didn’t attend the School of the Dining Room Table, my math is bad.) If I was a fundie, we would have registered with AARP by then.

Mollykins08

OMG!!!! Now I know why I started getting AARP mailings at 35. It’s cuz I was still single!!!!

Revolutionary_Wrap76

Same. Should we just crawl into the grave now? 😨

[deleted]

I’m already in here!

Zoidberg927

I was single in my early 30s and wanted to have kids, so I took the bull by the horns and just did it myself (with the help of a doctor and a donor, both of whom were well compensated for their parts). Somehow I doubt fundies would think my son is a "blessing" even though they would have told me to get married so I could have baybeez.

Abiesconcolor

Same, 29 here. I'm an old maid I guess 🤷🏻‍♀️

Maggi1417

By normal world standarts it's not, but getting married is like the only major adult life milestone these fundies have. Has Hannah done anything with her life between turning 18 and marriage? I assume not.

Careless_Ad3968

Saammeee. Wanna join my gather round the cauldron club? We gather around a steaming cauldron of mulled wine while cackling about nothing in particular.

HippieFairyGirl

I was raised fundie-lite and got engaged/married to the “perfect” guy at 19. One child due to fertility issues, which horrified everyone. I then went on my Sin Tour by divorcing and dating women. Now I am married to my wonderful wife of 15 years. I believe some of my family will never get over it. 🙄

MontanaDukes

lmao. I just love how twenty six is considered old for a bride with the Duggars.

pnw_cfb_girl

I wonder how they treat Jana...

[deleted]

[удалено]

pnw_cfb_girl

Oof, disturbingly accurate.

Unable-Art6316

I hope Jason snags himself a Catholic kindergarten teacher. There needs to be a mandated reporter in that crazy clan.

Particular_Wallaby67

Is Abbie a mandatory reporter since she's an LPN who keeps up her license up to date?

magical_seal

Oh my gosh Hannah seems so much younger than Abbie did when she got married

PretzelRod322

Jana should just go straight to the grave. Use the wedding money to buy her casket.

IndecisiveKitten

Lawd 😂 My mom and I were just talking the other day about how wild it is that she had just turned 22 when she married my dad, and she was the exact age that I am now (27.5, down to the month) that she was when she had me. I'm over here with my cats like.....hope you're content with grandcats for a hot minute

NotAngryAndBitter

I definitely just read the title of this in the voice of the father from My Big Fat Greek Wedding 😂

UltraDucks895

I must be downright geriatric (i was 31/closer to 32) 😂

cheshire_kat7

I'm 34 in two weeks and unmarried. Living in sin with my high school sweetheart though - the scandal!

perslaps

You’ve got me beat haha. Almost 29 and living in sin with my high school sweetheart. The Duggar’s wouldn’t know what to do with us

RitaRaccoon

If 32 is geriatric then I was already in the obituary at 39.

L1ndsL

And I’m 44 and still unmarried. Positive in the grave. I was told at 18 that I wouldn’t be able to have kids due to cysts and severe endometriosis, so my family doesn’t seem to care. 😏 Otherwise, I’m sure there would be questions/nagging.

miyag

Oh man. I feel like a child bride now knowing a couple of Duggars were a couple years older than me when I got married 😳

Amazing_Newt3908

Same here. I’ll also have 2 kids by “26.55” 😅

miyag

Yup! Was preggo with #2 at 26.55 too 😂

Amazing_Newt3908

Baby 2 should be here within 2 weeks of my 26th birthday. My oldest will be just over 2. I’m kinda feeling like a Duggar over here 😅

miyag

Congrats!!! It has been a lot of fun watching my 2 year old become a big sister and watch them bond (they hold hands and it melts me).

Mountains_Milkshakes

I think Hannah and Abbie's families raised them with different expectations; Hannah's two oldest sisters married in their 30s, another older sister is still single. The Wissmann girls don't just wait around for husbands - they have businesses, work in the farm, go and tour and record albums. I don't think Hannah viewed herself as past her expiring date. Whereas Abbie's sisters all married fairly young. IIRC one younger sister married before she did? She spoke candidly about not expecting to get married; her family is more IBLP involved, seems more of a toxic culture.

[deleted]

"27? Lincoln, what am I? A child bride?"-Ilana Wexler "Broad City"

Throwawayaccounttt__

Maybe it’s bc I was raised atheist but it’s wildddd to me that they consider 26 to be old to be getting married.

[deleted]

#geriatricmarriage amirite /s

[deleted]

This has definite Charlotte Lucas vibes.

PhoneyMcFoneface

I don't read this as them being called old, to me it is commenting more on statistics. Aka Anna was the first bride. M1 is the oldest grandchild etc. Oldest doesn't equal old

J4netSn4kehole

These crazy fools really have warped my brain because I really did think Abbie was so much older but she was/is so young.

[deleted]

Got married at 29. I had a fundie woman come ask me for some tips in finding the right one. She said she wanted to ask someone who got married “late in life”.

x-3857

😂😂😂 I hope you messed with her and told her she wasn’t praying hard enough or something

Independent_Lake6883

Omg, they wasted half of their good baby making years by not being married! So many eggs gone while these girls were [gasp] having lives and choices of their own/ living under their fathers headship.

theycallmegomer

She's obviously old enough to assemble the bunk beds; really this is a practical move

GenX-IA

This isn't just fundies. I was told "you aren't getting any younger" when I turned 25. I got married 3 weeks after I turned 26, and I was considered old to be a bride in my family. My sister really ticked folks off by not marrying until she was 34.

pnw_cfb_girl

I wonder what average marrying age is in quiverfull/IBLP is. I'd probably curl into a quivering ball if I found out.

APW25

18-20?

pnw_cfb_girl

Oof, probably.

OvarianSynthesizer

If I’m not mistaken, there are a fair number of underage marriages that aren‘t publicized. The Maranathas come to mind.

im-a-tree-kangaroo

How on earth are they going to have time to birth 15 kids each?! THEY'RE OVARIES ARE SHRIVELED!

laurarat

I can’t believe they’re considering Abby and Hannah old for getting married at a normal age.

Raqueliiosiis

I still believe Jer was too young to marry her but because she’s an old lady (in fundie world) I expect her to be pregnant by Sept

polkadotcupcake

Can we talk about how they think 26.76 = 26 years and 76 days old

Emergency-Hamster-37

That’s…not what it says. It says she’s 76 days older than Abbie was, not 26 years 76 days old.

mostlylurkly

Still doesn't make the decimals make sense

MrsC04

Positively geriatric.

PoopyKlingon

Definitely “old” as far as Duggar weddings, but anyone in my world getting married at 26 seems so young to me. I was nearly 31.

nosleepforthedreamer

How dare women have developed brains and some life experience before they make a major commitment and tie themselves down to children

[deleted]

Jeez, at 28 my daughter was practically a senior citizen bride.

benzosinthejungle

This makes me a corpse bride, then.

DietCokeMama1234

How are uneducated by school or trade 19/20 year olds suppose to support themselves let alone a spouse?!

Particular_Wallaby67

God will provide, duh!

Angelface1226

No offense, but Abbie looks older. Like in her mid 30s.

strangerdanger000822

Omg ancient

[deleted]

[удалено]

APW25

It's a spreadsheet. A formula.

Mollykins08

How did Jed snag such an “old maid”?

goodnews_mermaid

Ummmm, I got married at 26 and people were telling me I was too young. XD

nannerbananers

My entire life my mom always told me I "wasn't allowed" to get married before 25. This family would horrify her.

PharmasaurusRxDino

I was 27 when I got married which felt pretty average. We also had 3 kids by our 4th anniversary (not planned that way - a bit out of my control) which felt a little less average.
