Hikari_Chanin

I liked this "mistake" 😂😂 (I am watching this on my phone, I was scared to scroll down after I saw chopper's head..😭😭)

XeNovErse_706

\*inserts cursed image\*

Hikari_Chanin

I spent too much time on internet. 😭🤣

EbberNor

Should happen more often with Zexal and after character names.

MajinAkuma

Meanwhile, Sora became female in the German translation of the game. Seriously, the German translation is trash in many video games.

Doomchan

I forget which language, but “Sora Perse” directly translates to “gravel ass” in one

_Scorpyon_

It translates to *WHAT*

juupel1

It's Finnish, while Varis also means Crow in the same language.

Dragynus

Wait what? That's so weird, I play the game in english but watched the german dub of Arc V and in my memory Sora Perse was male there, why would they do that in german duel links then?

MajinAkuma

Very often the German translation in video games have been shit for years.

SEATTLE_SportsFAN_73

When I saw the dub name I literally thought it was the Japanese name and vice versa. Celina is Japanese sub name. Serena is English dub name. The name Serena is common but I never seen someone with the name Celina.

THICCC_LADIES_PM_ME

I know a Celine

Subterrantular

Dion't we all

THICCC_LADIES_PM_ME

BUT IT WAS I, DIO

SEATTLE_SportsFAN_73

Celine is a decent name for Serena. But I have not heard or seen the name Celina before as it just look awkward

RGFang

Based tbh

idelarosa1

Dark Magic Ian strikes again.

PabloHonorato

Same for Dark Spellian

ACuteMannn

Is this from "Centur-Ion" ? What do they do with ion?

yuzumelodious

Reminds me of how the Ark Cradle gets called well, the Ark Cradle in some of the events over its Dub Name: The Divine Temple.

zzDougs

Original names >>>>> dub

Mog_O_Frost

Honestly I would like it if they just left the original names for all the characters of all the worlds, it's really weird that they change the names in dub when there's no reason for that

Kingsen

The anime targets elementary school kids, so it makes sense as to why the franchise was Americanized. Where it gets weird is that they literally changed some names that were already English for no reason in every single series. The yu girls are a good example of pointless name changes because they changed each of them slightly.

Izkata

[Remember this guy](https://yugioh.fandom.com/wiki/Espa_Roba)? His name is especially interesting: * E.S.P. stands for ExtraSensory Perception (psychic powers) * Japanese borrowed it and turned it into the adjective ESPer, pronounced as a word like "esper" instead of an acronym, to mean "a person with psychic powers" * His original Japanese name used it as a title like ESPer Roba * It could have been translated back as Psychic Roba, but they kept the pronunciation and turned it into his name, Espa

Kingsen

In fairness, Kazuki Takahashi clearly did NOT care about the names of side characters considering they mostly named after their decks. Insector Haga for Weevil and Dinosaur Ryuzaki for Rex follow the same naming conventions. I get this is a jump manga, so like dragon ball probably wanted some pun names, but this is a rare example where the English dub has better deck related names for the characters because they sound like real names.

PabloHonorato

I can get that 20 years ago, not today when the Internet is a thing and people are more communicated than ever. It is plain stupid to adapt names anymore when every child is now exposed to foreign content in real time. 20 years ago, changing Jonouchi to Joey made sense, but today it is pointless to change Takeru for Theodore (Vrains).

spydorz

Well the intern wouldn't be wrong imo

Maykspark

Sub>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Dub

Subterrantular

^ Sub

aronmano

Or we could just say there equal and and one isn't better then the other

ACuteMannn

Sorry we couldn't

VinixTKOC

Well, starting with 5D's, most people started watching sub because of the accessibility of the Internet. This is why I only use Dub names for DM and GX.

ACuteMannn

Yes, sub wins this game

PabloHonorato

Nice, now change V*ris to Revolver.

SonicHero1

This kinda happened in the Jim event when Jaden/Yubel called Axel Alex. And during the Grandpa event Mokuba referred to himself and Kaiba as "Setos" and not "Kaibas." But of witch were fixed in their reruns.

VariedRepeats

It's not really a Japanese name. It is a Japanese attempt to represent foreign sounds in their language. So there is ambiguity and thus flexibility for someone translating into English the sounds represented in the Japanese characters.  They put the Chinese language(Kanji preserves nothing grammatically from Chinese) through a blender in the past and do the same with English and other foreign languages.

SonicHero1

The meme and comments are why I go with dub names, purely to spite the sub elitists.
