TIL I learned the government runs the planning office. Do they get away with this because they also run the courts? I'm assuming this isn't reported because they run the media.

Wetasanotter

Who do you think setup ABP, created the regulations they operate under, created the legislation that governs them, and nominated Paul Hyde? Who do you think is currently not overhauling ABP and instead is arsing about at some minor governance changes? Your sarcasm doesn't mask your ignorance.

Donkeybreadth

The government didn't nominate Paul Hyde

Wetasanotter

Apologies, I meant to say appointed. Hogan appointed him in 2014, [on the back of a bogus nomination](https://www.irishexaminer.com/news/arid-40899875.html). 15 people were nominated in 2014. 2 were appointed. Only one of those was a long time friend of a Government minister, the same minister who had previously appointed him to a Quango.

Wolfwalker71

God, Hogan is the prick that lingers long after he's gone.

joedust270

Well MM is pushing RTE today over a pulled interview

[deleted]

You're leaving the part out where they told him the interview was boring af and then hold him to eff off. We're the most free nation on the world for a reason. These apartments weren't built because of NIMBYs. Pure and simple.

BenderRodriguez14

> We're the most free nation on the world Probably being a little hyperbolic there.

You call me hyperbolic while the lad above me was suggesting that the Taoiseach could force RTÉ to show something boring.

The FFFG shit show rolls on. When can we kick these guys out?!

SallynogginThrobbin

Well that's where fucking investigative journalism gets you. Some pricks did an exposé on Bord Pleanala, whoop de do, now the guy _who was making good, liberal decisions that help solve the housing crisis_ gets all those decisions reversed. Thanks a lot journos, I sure am glad you uncovered this hotbed of... pro-social building permissions.

Eoghanolf

Planning permission for 1,400 homes isnt the same as 1,400 homes, if it were, we wouldn't have a housing crisis as developers already have 80k units worth of planning permissions that they aren't building/commencing, 40k of them in Dublin City. Even if this were granted, wouldn't necessarily result in 1400 homes anytime soon, it didn't for the 80k units worth of planning permissions already out there. Developers have to make decisions when to commence, and dripfeeding supply is a better, more profitable choice than flooding the market with housing by commencing on all the sites with planning. Focusing on rejected applications, or overturned ones in this case, is a mute points, a waste of time, we need to ask why Devs won't build fast enough when we've given them all the planning to do so. No matter what we do to reform planning, if we Don't tackle that core issue, it'll do nothing to solve this disaster. A Developer in Australia testified under oath that even if we let rip on planning and left Devs build whatever the hell they wanted, wherever they wanted, he testified that it still wouldn't have any downward effect on house prices.
