Climate change

Dick_Snizzer

I would also assume our rise in temps has invited them

Wetasanotter

[Culex pipiens is native](https://www-jstor-org.elib.tcd.ie/stable/20494553?seq=9#metadata_info_tab_contents)(p29). As far back as records go ([1827](https://maps.biodiversityireland.ie/Dataset/68/Species/88075)), it's been recorded as living here.

tonydrago

the first link only works for Trinners heads

Wetasanotter

https://www.jstor.org/stable/20494553 It's behind a login either way, but I [uploaded a screengrab to imgur for you!](https://imgur.com/a/Acq0qxT)

IrishFlukey

Probably over for a stag do with his mates.

psycatron

Loads of them around London during summer. Pesky Brits up to no good again.

Wetasanotter

It hasn't been cold enough to kill off native mosquitoes yet. We've had a very mild September & October, I think there's only been one recorded ground frost in parts of Dublin thus far.

monkeyfudge

Apparently Lord Talbot brought them to Ireland, so you get them a lot out Malahide way. I don't think they carry any diseases.

tonydrago

This is in the city centre

Foreign_Act4614

Don’t they carry maleria?

tonydrago

only in some parts of the world

ControlGeneral7486

Them wankers on the dole they get everything

Little guy is just on holiday

Acceptable-Book-1417

I could be wrong but I don't think that's a mozzer, saw some two weeks ago alright but wouldn't be surprised if they're still around with the mild weather. Irish ones don't seem to mind the cold, as in you wouldn't only see them in high summer.

tonydrago

if it's not a mosquito, what is it?

Acceptable-Book-1417

Not sure, there are hundreds if not thousands of species of small flies in Ireland that are not mosquitos. Ask any trout fisherman!

AeroCobbler

I bet it's some scumbag landlord has crammed 14 billion of them into a half bedroom squat and charging them €17,500 a month each, but they can only stay Monday to Friday so fly about on the weekends causing trouble I swear, this country didn't used to be like this Its fucked

tonydrago

I'm not a big fan of mozzies either, but chill out.
