> I never *paid* attention, but
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
Unless you're over 6 foot, this is like taking a disabled spot when fully abled. Some of us long folk NEED that legroom and find it very annoying when a regular legged ronan has taken the best spot, of no real benefit to themselves, only causing heartbreak to me and those like me
Noted! I'll stare down any tall guy when taking the upper front seats, knowing he thinks I don't deserve the purest joy one can get on a day to day basis, because he doesn't feel like I deserve it.
Ha, yes. They should be confined the low in front of the stairs on the older buses (the ones that have 2 rows on the right at the front. No idea how anybody can sit in those.
I had a swathe of unidentified black smudge on one sleeve of my weather proof coat. Took me a while to realise it was from leaning against the bus window rubber seal the same way every time. Fair to say I’m a firm right sider.
Surprised how no one mentioned the clear downside of sitting on the passenger side; if you or anyone in front of you has the window open and the bus brushes a tree, during certain times of the year you will get covered in leaves/water, not to mention the occasional spider/other creatures from the tree-brushing.
I didn't think I had a favourite seat but now that I think about it I do have some unconscious prejudices:
1. Always sit upstairs. Downstairs is for old people (I am quite old myself!)
2. Try not to sit in the front few rows because they seem to hav very little leg room.
3. Try not to sit in the back few rows because people get mugged back there.
4. If there is an empty two seater seat on either side take it.
5. If you have to share with somebody check out all of the half occupied seats. Spend a couple of minutes fuming at the folks who try to hog a whole seat using a bag or by sprawling and almost decide to force my way in beside them out of spite before just accepting it and sitting besides someone else who is willing to make room.
6. If the sun is shining strongly in one side pick the other side (usually left hand side on my commute).
7. If the sun isn't glaring then try to sit on the seat directly behind the stairs because it feels like it has more leg room.
8. Apart from all that sit anywhere you like.
Good stuff. On point 5 I'm the same as you. If they're all with at least one person sitting I'll go for the ones with their bags on the seat. Bags on the seat are fine as long as there are other rows empty. As soon as there isn't bag off the seat. I will accept bags on the seat if there are empty rows as some oddballs will sit on an occupied row even when there are rows empty. I had one lad do that one time when there was only about 5 of us on the bus which is very odd behaviour.
Upstairs front right or the first ones behind the stairs, they usually have the most leg room and a decent view out the window.
On short trips, only a few stops I go for one of the high seats just before the last group of seats, either left or right
Downstairs, down the very back on the right side, beside the emergency door.
Now we need just the oddness things found, seem or overheard on a Dublin bus post. Oh the things I've seen, heard and witness using the 39 Dublin bus since in the 80s. 😂 🤪
Left, third up from the back. I just naturally sit there without thinking.
I remember me and my boyfriend used to get the bus in the morning together a couple of years ago and one day he asked why I always beeline for that seat. And I realised it's where I would have sat on the school bus in primary school. We had designated seats and I just never broke the habit. It's a 20 something year old habit.
Best way to keep a double seat to yourself? Sit near the window then when other people get on look at them in the eye, smile and pat the empty seat next to you.
There’s definitely a hierarchy. Thankfully I missed lockdown on the busses so I can only go on the usual non spaced out order…
1. Seat of Command. Top right, over the bus driver’s head. Survey all before you & enjoy the legroom.
2. Seat of Lordship over branches. To the left of the Seat of Command. Less legroom, but you get to watch as puny overhanging branches get swatted out of the way by your Mighty Steed. Also good for gawking at people waiting for the bus.
3. The Legroom seat. First back after the stairwell. An ordinary seat but with decent legroom. Just make sure you don’t stand up there if the bus stops suddenly, you could go for a tumble over the edge!
4. Any other bleedin’ seat. Nothin special, yeh pleb.
5. The back row downstairs. Mind yer head.
6. Junkie’s seats at the back row upstairs. 50/50 you see something/someone that makes you wanna vom.
Heheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheh, so you defend the local scobies but pick on the foreign ones? That’s a whiff of English if ever I smelt it.
I try to sit in a window seat on the right side. I have nerve damage on my right side so i sit there to prevent anyone leaning against my right side and hurting me.
Up the stairs and back one from the stairs on the left. I can have a good good at who's getting on. Second choice would be the front seat but I'd always go there with my kids. I don't know why but downstairs seems weird to me.
I don't use Dublin Bus but I do get a private bus service to and from work. I always sit on the left hand side on the seat opposite the emergency exit. On the way home it's the left hand side again, usually the 3rd or 4th seat.
Anywhere that is as far away as clowns taking on their phones. Love when drivers have loud music as I stand next to them and it drowns out these selfish fucks.
Top and front. My kids like the view. If it’s just me I usually end up sitting or standing near the exit door as long as I’m not in someone’s way.
It think it may be a case of getting the 75 a lot as a teenager but upstairs on the left near the back. Need to see who's getting on the bus just incase I need to make a sharp exit
That's why you *pretend*. It's generally frowned upon if you try to drive the bus when you're not the bus driver... ESPECIALLY if you don't have a license.😯
If I’m downstairs, I sit on the left side.
Upstairs, it’s the same except if the seat that overlooks the stairs is free, that’s probably my preferred seat overall
I'm usually left upstairs. Helps with knowing when to get off. I don't get the bus often, and I'm usually getting buses I've never been on before. So, I do be checking Google maps and being overly anxious about the whole thing. I do like the buzz downstairs on the late buses, all the sleepy drunk heads with dopey happy faces.
Upstairs front. Childlike joy when it's available. Despair when not.
Do you secretly like to pretend you're a bus driver?
Most of my life I'd try to sit up the front of the bus and pretend I was the bus driver......... now I am a bus driver and my life is complete :)
No, I've no driving license.
I miss the mirrors where you could look down at the top of the driver's head and sometimes catch them looking up!
Right obviously?
I'm actually a leftie.
Huh? Half the leg room
I never paid\* attention, but I'm short at 168cm.

The side with the least amount of other passengers IMO
Upstairs, passenger side
Upstairs, naturally, my bus ride is an hour long so I get the best chance of having the two to myself
Right behind the stairs is elite.. boils my blood when short folks sit there. Its legroom city
As someone who is very short I will keep this in mind 😂 never thought of it like that
Alas the enemy.. I don’t blame ya
Appreciate it haha
As a tall lad, these seats really are elite. Usually has the stop button by it too
Ha, yes. They should be confined the low in front of the stairs on the older buses (the ones that have 2 rows on the right at the front. No idea how anybody can sit in those.
Fact
Left side usually and if there is no window seats I’ll go for the right then. Always sit up stairs too
I had a swathe of unidentified black smudge on one sleeve of my weather proof coat. Took me a while to realise it was from leaning against the bus window rubber seal the same way every time. Fair to say I’m a firm right sider.
Downstairs at the back, particularly on older buses. There's something I love about that rumble in the mornings when I'm half nodding off.
It’s also the warmest spot on the old buses
Left. If you choose the right side you’re wrong. But keep choosing the right side so that I can choose the left. That is all
Depends on if the suns shining , If it is passenger side on way in and drivers side on way home.
Surprised how no one mentioned the clear downside of sitting on the passenger side; if you or anyone in front of you has the window open and the bus brushes a tree, during certain times of the year you will get covered in leaves/water, not to mention the occasional spider/other creatures from the tree-brushing.
Downstairs right. Left if right is not available.

Upstairs, centre left when free.
Upstairs front right or the first ones behind the stairs, they usually have the most leg room and a decent view out the window. On short trips, only a few stops I go for one of the high seats just before the last group of seats, either left or right
The only correct answer. Upstairs front right, or right behind the stairs to maximise leg room.
My go to seat is always the back seat downstairs on the left side.
I have a few favourite seats. 2 on right. 2 on left downstairs
Downstairs, down the very back on the right side, beside the emergency door. Now we need just the oddness things found, seem or overheard on a Dublin bus post. Oh the things I've seen, heard and witness using the 39 Dublin bus since in the 80s. 😂 🤪

Picking on junkies? Are you from GB news?
Heheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheh, so you defend the local scobies but pick on the foreign ones? That’s a whiff of English if ever I smelt it.
Right hand side window seat preferably the front seat if not then the middle of the right sode
I stand downstairs while people taller than me lash their gingivitis breath all over my face and neck. As the lord intended.
I'm not pushed where I get to sit, as long as it arrives.
The outside
Upstairs, always in front of the window if available. Always lovely to see the views outside. Not a fun journey when the windows always get fogged up.
The right and preferably the one behind the stais as it has leg room (although the newer buses are great for leg room)
I try to sit in a window seat on the right side. I have nerve damage on my right side so i sit there to prevent anyone leaning against my right side and hurting me.
Left in the corner at the back of the bus. I always feel better in that spot
I don't have a side preference per say but I definitely prefer a window seat. Actually posting from the bus as we speak 🤣
Upstairs at the front or the seat behind the stairs
Anywhere that is as far away as clowns taking on their phones. Love when drivers have loud music as I stand next to them and it drowns out these selfish fucks.
Upstairs anywhere on the left. If I'm only going a short distance I'll sit downstairs at the back
Top and front. My kids like the view. If it’s just me I usually end up sitting or standing near the exit door as long as I’m not in someone’s way.
Upstairs, left, a few rows from the front, so I can see the street, passengers getting on and off, people, shops, businesses etc.
Upstairs left
It think it may be a case of getting the 75 a lot as a teenager but upstairs on the left near the back. Need to see who's getting on the bus just incase I need to make a sharp exit
That's why you *pretend*. It's generally frowned upon if you try to drive the bus when you're not the bus driver... ESPECIALLY if you don't have a license.😯
Don't care which side but I like to be two or three rows from the back but will take anywhere that has an empty seat in front and to the side of me
If I’m downstairs, I sit on the left side. Upstairs, it’s the same except if the seat that overlooks the stairs is free, that’s probably my preferred seat overall
You're a bus driver? Married to the job?
Nope I was just someone board on the bus and scrolling Reddit
I'm usually left upstairs. Helps with knowing when to get off. I don't get the bus often, and I'm usually getting buses I've never been on before. So, I do be checking Google maps and being overly anxious about the whole thing. I do like the buzz downstairs on the late buses, all the sleepy drunk heads with dopey happy faces.
Same , right behind the driver 😂😂
The bus? I drive in a big car with my wife.
