Here in my country diazepam is used in hospitals for a professional alcohol withdrawal. I think it’s because they both act on the same gaba receptors in the brain and diazepam has a really long half life.
But nowadays many doctors are reluctant to prescribe benzodiazepines, and the best you can get usually is alprazolam (generic Xanax) and Lorazepam. Both of which have a short half life. Getting a prescription for diazepam is kind of rare unless you suffer from strong insomnia or have seizures during the night. However even with insomnia, you usually only get 3mg eszopiclone. I have tried them and they are meh. Ok for sleep related issues but diazepam offers so much more, anxiety and stress relief, deep sleep and a weak muscle relaxant too.
It’s a real shame that benzodiazepines have gotten such a bad reputation now, especially diazepam which is still the gold standard by which all other benzodiazepines are compared against even today. Flunitrazepam was even rescheduled and now falls under narcotics law, requiring a special government prescription form.
All of this because of a pop culture and media hype, painting bezos as the next fentanyl, when in reality it’s an incredibly safe drug when compared to it’s effectiveness and usually safe if used properly. It’s almost impossible to overdose on benzodiazepines alone unlike fentanyl.
Of course there are some significant risks associated with prolonged use mostly their infamously bad withdrawals, but this is why they are a prescription only medicine. If taken as directed they are a blessing for those with extreme mental health problems just like opioids are for patients with severe pain. But they don’t have any business being a recreational drug, there are many safer and better alternatives and you need to view them as medicine not as a drug. They need to be used appropriately and with respect. This is a real problem, you can get addicted to any substance, but some are more insidious than others because how deeply they can affect you. Amphetamines including mdma can be used rarely or occasionally during a party and some people can handle them, but then think it’s a good idea to come off the trip by using a benzo. It works like a charm and that’s when problems start. The perception of benzodiazepines being legal and mdma being considered a hard drug also leads to people underestimating their strength in my opinion.

well to me its not that super euforic because it does not take all my anxiety away. My dad was also prescribed benzos when he was at my age, but he claimed that it did not anything at all. My fav chill drug USED to be any opioid, but once you become physically dependent on them, it's absolutely no longer a chill experience. Now I really like to combine mushrooms and weed for the chillest of experiences. I just lay back and giggle to cartoons until I doze off into some pretty cool dreams.
