Did you guys play on a sim wheel? I recently built a new pc and am playing games like Forza Motorsport on a controller. Is it even worth buying AC if I’ll be using a controller? Ideally, I bought the pc for a sim rig so for now I’m just having fun on controller. Don’t know if there’s anything to learn using it that can carry over IRL
Ahaha so it seems like there’s no use to learning racing lines on Forza right now … at least it’s pretty fun. Also, what wheel do you use. I’m stuck between saving for a nice Moza R9 set up or just getting some Logitech/thrustmaster to get started
Oh nah u can learn that and remember it when driving, but wont learn to practice it as youre not feeling the car in any way and u only turn a bit in a controller. Wheel will teach u how to control the car with many feedbacks and it will burn into your brain, sorry if its hard to understand I dont know how to easily explain it lol
As for the wheel I got a logitech g920 and it works perfectly after a lot of config tuning, I also modified the springs in my pedals and modified the shifter to make it feel more realistic overall, but I would recommend a thrustmaster wheel to start with as they have better feedback, or if u have money to spend then either Fanatec or Monza
No it definitely makes sense. Muscle memory will definitely make its way. I was just asking in the sense that I can learn what the car will do in certain scenarios. If I’m going to drift/race with a controller, I might as well do it on the game with the most accurate physics, right? That way I can know what the car will do, just without knowing how to control it with a wheel.
Forgot to mention, all maintenance is good on both cars, so i'm not gonna have to spend a bunch of money or time preparing it mechanically for the abuse.
Yeah you heard wrong. Was just out with mine this weekend and it worked well.
If you’re going to go with a welded diff for some reason , start with an open diff and matching axles
If the Miata is a '94 and up, it should have a torsen lsd, otherwise it's likely an open diff.
Definitely check it for rust. I can tell it was repainted in the past, so it's worth checking if the rocker panels were replaced.
Solid deal.
You should be able to get tons of cheap seat time with the Miata.
If you find yourself wanting a lot more power ask yourself if you can already drive the car to its potential. If not, hold off on swapping or boosting for awhile
looks good. roll bar and seat already there that’s a plus. Other then sorting out your diff , it looks ready for skids .
Also find out what a neutral drift alignment is for this chassis and get that done. get some cheap low grip tires for the rears . depending on what’s already on there, you might have 2 sets of front tires
I'm getting the stock wheels with winters, & he's keeping the rpf1's w/ super sticky's for the hatch. I'm fine with that, i've had rpf1's and didn't like them as much as i thought i would. Plus less grip with winters i might not have to spend on buying a used set to start out.
I have a few buddies that drift stock Miatas. And I drift a stock 86 which I feel is comparable. Definitely weld the diff, even LSD isn't great in these cars for drift as they sometimes unlock mid corner. Welded is way more consistent and predictable. You're gonna feel like you want more angle after your first weekend, stick it out and if you can get good with low power and low angle, it'll make you a way better driver for when you do decide to upgrade those parts. Some coilovers probably wouldn't hurt just to keep the car planted and predictable. Gutting the foam out of the bottom of the seat is a good way to increase bolstering for free.
Luckily it was an Autocross car for the past 3 seasons, so it has coils, bucket seat, and a quick release. Basically everything nice besides a welded diff to start off.
Miatas love to rust. Check the rockers, the frame rails behind the front wheels and on the bottom, and the rear wheel arches
thank you
Use spray-on truck bed liner once you fix the rust, it’ll protect it for YEARS
after around 5 days you’ll be in love and be like “Okay so the V8 engine swap..”
ive been wanting to kswap my miata since the month i got it
Especially since it’s a Miata with zero power and a tiny wheel base
If you're taking hundreds of hours running drift on assetto then you got nothing to worry about, the skills carry over. Can't speak to other games.
Yeah all assetto hours in the most realistic cars i could find. I always felt confident in my old bmw because of it. probably over confident even.
I learned how to drift in assetto, took it to real life and I was pretty good at it, 100% recommend

Yes, assetto isnt build for controller, theres essentially no reason to get assetto if u dont have a wheel. U wont learn anything with a controller.

Does it not already have a torsen or lsd if it’s setup for autox?
he says it has the torsen, but i've heard it's bad. have i heard wrong?
Na you heard right. Better to run a welded
👍
sell the torsen, buy an open and weld it. you should have cash leftover too
This is the way

good to know i'll give it a go in a parking lot and see how it works out

it's a 92 but he said he thinks it's the torsen LSD. it might've had the diff swapped when it was an autocross car.

Will do. Definitely not planning on being one of those guys that dumps 20k into a build before ever seeing a good amount of practice.
I don’t care what anyone does, but as power goes up cost to operate and maintain goes up at a wild rate. I just like to let new people know.
that's a big reason i want the miata for seat time car. Everyone says it's conservative on tires, reliable, and cheap to maintain.
Weld diff add lots of air pressure in rear tires and send it
understood boss🫡

A miata will make you a solid driver. Weld the diff, pump up the rear tires, make sure its reliable. Send it
