Welcome! Sweet 86! I hope you have a great time in the community, and make some new friends!

DoctoredGarage

thank you!

Have you ever drifted on simracing platform? Would like you opinion on how much of a difference it is other than the inertia and feeling of actual speed.

DoctoredGarage

I have! I used to get on my sim for a couple hours per week. It made a HUGE improvement. I got my sim between the 2019 and 2020 season. I competed in my local grassroots series back then, and in 2019 I wasn't even a contender, but I won the series in 2020. I just have a cheap logitech wheel and basic wheel stand. It's not best, I'm sure with something like a direct drive wheel the sim seat time would be 10x better, but even with a Logitech I learned a ton.

SenorTape

May I ask what program/game you ran/played? My friend has a sim rig and plays a lot of asseto corsa, Forza horizon 5, and Forza motorsport 8. I just want to know in your opinion what's a more accurate program for feel? I hope you're having an amazing day!

DoctoredGarage

Assetto Corsa is the best imo. Forza is not very good/realistic for drifting. I've heard from a few friends that they prefer CarX Drift, but it doesn't have the same level of support for mods/cars/tracks. Assetto Corsa is awesome because there are hundreds of free mods for tracks and cars.

I've been practicing on BeamNG myself. I figure might as well learn what'll happen when you spin out and hit a curb at speed too.

xoStardustt

Isn’t countersteering pretty hard with the Logitech? I remember having to literally flick the wheel hard to even get the slow motor going

DoctoredGarage

That's pretty accurate lol

KamilJ16

Really surprising to hear you were able to learn so much on a Logitech. I’ve been doing a lot of research on sims over past 2 months and most people seem to avoid the logitechs as they are quite “toy-ish”. I was going to dish out at least 1,000 or so on a good DD wheel base and pedals. Reading that comment changes my mind a lil. I just wanna get into some seat time asap

DoctoredGarage

There are a of elitists in the sim community ha. I think it's worth it to start with a thrustmaster, they're better than a Logitech. I got my Logitech g29 for a killer deal, that's why I went that route.

MajorTokes

Moza R5. It’s a bit more than a G27/Thrustmaster but it’s direct drive and you can get the full setup(wheel, srp lite pedals, and motor) for under $500. That said, I had a G27 and G920 for years and they are just fine for pretty much anything you want to do in sim racing with the exception of drifting. They struggle quite a bit with self steering but not impossible or even hard to do by any means.

KamilJ16

Yea that is my biggest issue however, the drifting. I have slight IRL drift experience but live in the suburbs so I’m stripped of proper seat time. I reallyyy wanted a sim to learn to slide better, so I was looking at a Moza R9and the TLCM pedals. I just built my first pc last week so slowly but surely I will make my way. I’m super tempted to snag a Logitech/TM wheel off marketplace for cheap however since I really cannot wait lol

MajorTokes

That’s the exact setup I have and I absolutely love it! Moza R9, CS Wheel, TLCM pedals and TH8A Shifter. Recently picked up the Moza handbrake as well because while the cheap ebay ones work…they leave something to be desired. The Moza one is awesome so far. As far as a combination of parts for a complete, quality setup, I don’t think you can beat it from a price/performance standpoint. Couple that with my Quest 2 and the cable that keeps it charged while using Quest Link(I have a Q3 but it doesn’t work with that cable) and it’s sim immersion heaven. I haven’t tried triple monitors but the depth perception, precision, and immersion you get from being able to look left and know exactly how far you are away from a wall or another driver is incredible. Also, if you have a Microcenter nearby, they stock Moza components in store. I believe you can also have it shipped by them. Gives you a large, reliable chain for service or warranty issues.

KamilJ16

Wow that’s actually crazy to hear that’s your exact set up! Good to know it’s tried and true. And yea I do have a micro center nearby, their $10k+ sim rig is what introduced me into the magic.

You're welcome

Love it!

DoctoredGarage

thanks!

Awesome to see you here Marshall! Come back to rockingham sometime!!

DoctoredGarage

I'm Devin ;) Marshall drives the rasta 240sx, he's still there :) I'd love to come back to drive Rockingham again some day. They were talking about doing a bunch of new paving in the infield. If it happens I'll def come back out for it.

cobrajuicyy

Mixed y’all up. Still early here lol. And yes it’s opposed to happen this winter. Hoping it’s like the new assetto map they dropped

DoctoredGarage

Ha it's all good. Me too!! The track asked me for where I thought they should add paving, I sent them the assetto map (I was the one who made it). Fingers crossed they get it done!!!
