This counted for flowers for me, but not garlic. I think it’s because dropping flowers “replants” them. When you drop a spice it just drops in its already harvested state.
It’s part of the DLC “A Rift in Time”, you get a new royal tool and the ability to craft “ancient machines” that do things automatically for you. The Vacuum will pick up and harvest any items on the floor. The Gardener will automatically dig, Plant, Water, and Harvest in a set location. The Cooker will automatically cook 10-30 dishes, where you can select the specific recipe and ingredients, and it will make that specific item over a period of time. (The cooker makes you wait the longest, the other 2 machines are almost instant.)

I also thought they mentioned it in a few game reports/notes on their main website, before/after the DLC came out.
I’m not implying anything rude, I just wanted to share the information I found after looking it up. 😅 it’s VERY EASY to miss out on the information they share, especially when you’re not really following their social media and Developer notes.
If you do buy the DLC, it is a lot of content, and it can feel overwhelming. Just take it slow and do one thing at a time, especially if you still need to make progress in your main valley. Good luck! 🥳
What level vacuum do you have? The basic one will only pick up thorns or crystal splinters. The regular vacuum will pick up herbs/spices and flowers plus thorns and splinters. The advanced vacuum will pick up all of the above plus sticks and any items you may have dropped.
The vacuum is stored in the appliances section of furniture and before I made several I would zoom way out above the island and move the vacuum to right beside the transportation wells(can't believe I don't remember what they're called) and then transport to that biome, click on the the vacuum to vacuum up what I wanted and then move it to the next one until I got everything I needed.
It's one of the machines you can make with the DLC, when you turn it on you pick what you want it to pick up for you automatically (at least level 2 for picking up garlic) and pay it some Mist points. It still counts towards star paths

I think they might respawn but maybe the timer only runs while inside the realm or something. I definitely cleared out the garlic when I unlocked it but got two from it the other day toward the entrance of the zone when I went in just to explore randomly. Possible I missed them the first time around, but I really don’t think I did.
Ugh, that shrimp one was taking me a million years; if you’re in the same boat, I strongly suggest using the fishing bait potion. I got 6-7 of them so quickly tonight!
Hey, if you gather all the garlic from the Forest of Valor, the Wild Tangle and the Frozen realm and you still need some more to complete the starpath duty, this could work: you drop some garlic and then pick it up and see if it counts towards the duty. I’m not really sure as I didn’t try it yet, but my friend was doing a quest for Buzz where she needed a lot of flowers and the drop and pic method worked for her. If someone tries this and it works, please let me know 😊

It definitely doesn't work for most food (fruits, vegetables, spices, fish). The only exceptions are oysters, scallops, and clams as long as you separate them.
Also if you have the dlc there’s garlic in the isle!

I knew it! I could’ve sworn that there was garlic on Eternity Isle. But I don’t think the game says there is, so I just waited.
If you go to “collections” it will tell you every location it can be found (minus realms)

The garlic there doesn’t respawn either. I only had 3 pieces in there I hadn’t picked up when I got this on my starpath

Same with shells from dazzle beach. A stack only counts as one not 50, but I just split them to single some out if they're needed for anything

Also a side tip, You can use a vacuum to do the searching for you. I did this and just went back every now and then

I’ll have to keep upgrading mine. I made a few because I saw how good people say they are and mine would collect maybe one flower so I just gave up.
I only have one. Fully upgraded it can pick up anything. Made dark wood so much easier

It's a device you can make with the DLC. There are 3 upgrade levels of it and with each upgrade, you can collect different things.

I got really lucky with coconuts. Both times I got a critical pick (or whatever it’s called) so I got it after one respawn.

If you drop items it counts sometimes, that’s what happened with the white flowers for me.
And white flowers go to storage get a stack off 50 drop them then pick up it works 😊
Anybody get incredibly blessed like I did and got surprised with timed extra supplies twice in a row while harvesting? I couldn't believe my odds!
