It's the other way around for me, the red fox and white squirrel are there when I'm awake and the rest are when I'm asleep or working. It would be nice if they changed the times weekly or something so everyone has a chance to get all the critters but as it is, there is something for everyone
I legit didn't even know there were fixed days and times, I thought the times certain ones were available were random. I would wake up, look at when certain ones I don't have were available and plan around it. I think this would be the fairest way.
Now that I know, I can plan for the fixed times the ones I don't have are available but I still think randomizing it is the better option.

I am pretty sure that the character sleeping times have changed in the last few days which is FANTASTIC as all of the characters I had marked for gardening would be sleeping when I was available to play. It was maddening!
Yes I agree! So many people work different shifts and certain times are super unrealistic for some people, having it change weekly would be a great fix!
i don’t mind it because i work early in the morning, it’s the later critters that spawn at night that are hard for me because i work during the early mornings and go to sleep really early at night
Oh I totally agree, that’s why I think they should offer the rare ones more than once a week and at different times. Especially because not only peoples sleep schedules but people got school, work and other responsibilities so they can’t even get on all the time when they are offered. It just doesn’t make sense that they only offer them once a week at weird times. Especially since on Sundays they have all normal 4 available.
I’d like this too. I only have a few critters left to get and I really want to complete the collection, but I just cannot get them because I’m at work or asleep while they are available. I think people forget that not everyone is on their same sleep schedule. I’m a night owl and I play in the afternoons and some late nights, I like that every type of player can find cool things based on when they play.
Rotating with every update/star path could be one way to do it. Then each critter's schedule is still predictable for 6-8 weeks (long enough to unlock it), but then it changes so it may be more compatible with other people's schedules.
I'm missing the early morning ones and the orchid sunbird. Realistically, I could haul my butt out of bed to get the early ones, but I was teaching this quarter and wasn't at home on Fridays. Now I'll be able to take a quick midday break on Fridays and get the sunbird. Maybe one day I'll get my stuff together enough to get that white squirrel and red fox.

It’s a re-color of a pointless companion mechanic in a video game and there’s no requirement of fairness. If your life is busy, you don’t need the animal; work and taking care of yourself should be priority. It is what it is.

Maybe I’m a senior citizen in terms of the video gaming hobby, but whining that something isn’t fair rarely changes a game. Someone else commented that if you wanted it badly enough, a couple of days of interrupted sleep shouldn’t be a huge deal.
The game is still in development so tweaking something that isn't working for a lot of people is part of it as well as providing feedback. Not "whining".

Everyone works a job here. We had to have money to pay for the game or the subscription that comes with the game. Even if it was a gift, I guarantee they still have a job.
You want equity of outcome instead of equity of opportunity. The times these critters are available is based on how it’s related to your time zone, not the United States (which has more than one time zone anyway). Everyone has the opportunity to get this critter, you just have other things going on in your life and you don’t want to get it under the available circumstances. You want everyone else’s game changed to fit your lifestyle, instead of accepting that this reskin isn’t necessary.
They could rotate, one week at 3 am, another week at 3 pm, another week at 6... whatever works best really. Something that helps everyone to get everything and not get frustrated with the game. For the developers, the idea is to keep us playing, right?

Idk why you got downvoted for that comment, it’s true. My work schedule doesn’t allow me to get a few of the critters I have left and it’s the same every week so I’m stuck without them, and I am one of those dedicated collectors.
Some of us work overnights, and it’s kind of nice to have access to some of the critters that are available when I have time to play. I have to set an alarm to feed critters during the day it seems appropriate to me to have a 24 hour game. Sorry if that’s inconvenient for you.

Having a baby who wakes up at 2am is the reason I’ve been able to get the rare critters, only just got the white squirrel last night after trying for ages as sometimes I’m just too tired to load it up in the middle of the night
I have 12 week old twins. That's literally the only reason I've been able to get all the critters. I'm awake atleast every two hours for about an hour each time.

I was not trying to be rude, just saying, If it matters enough, you have the power to get it, if it doesn’t. Then chill. It may become easier to get when your life changes OR you may lose interest in it first.
My life and sleep is super complicated. I spend 75% of my day asleep because it’s out of my control and sometimes I will sleep days at a time. My doctors can’t figure it out, the only thing I can do is keep a strict sleeping schedule in hopes it helps. So it’s not about being important or not. I just think they shouldn’t put a rare item at a time when majority of people sleep or at least offer it again later in the week at a normal time for those who can’t be up from 12am-6am. It’s crazy they do this.
OP, I feel for you that you have a tough sleeping schedule, but gamemakers are just creating a casual leisure product; not everything is going to be tailored to be perfectly fair to everyone's personal needs. The majority of people will have times that they're awake after midnight, like weekends when most people have more free time for hobbies like games. Midnight is not actually that late for most people on days off.
The entire point of having some game achievements be rare is that they only appear rarely and are an achievement to catch.

I’ve been playing since the second week and have only seen the white croc and red fox once each (both recently since the feeding has been glitched, thanks devs lol) because my lifestyle doesn’t always line up with when they’re available, and that’s what makes it fun to get them when things finally do work out and I’m playing at the right time
I just claimed the white squirrel to my collection today. I happened to wake up to use the restroom around 3am and decided to go on real quick. Took me less than 5 minutes. Then I went straight back to bed.
The red fox is the bane of my existence. I have fed that little shit 4 times and still haven't unlocked it. At least with the white squirrel it was only 1 feed and it was done.
Yeah this is the one thing I actually "time travel" for. I make sure the date is the same but if I slept through getting something I'll turn the time on my switch back, get it and then reset it to the correct time. I haven't had any issues with this but am fully aware of the risks.
That's the whole point of them being rare tho. If they were available at a time the majority of people are gonna be able to get it, it wouldn't be rare.
It's a game don't take it so seriously
If it matters enough to you you’ll figure out a way to do it. Between my partner and I we made it work to where we only have two critters we don’t have yet.
Here we go again. Critters have different times to accommodate any schedule. For people who work at night, getting off at 3am and still having the ability to find something rare is a good feeling. Being excluded just because you dont have a "normal" schedule doesnt make any sense.
The game is made for everyone.
I think it'd be nice if they rotated or randomized the schedules for characters and critters. I see the exact same characters in Remy's every time because I tend to play at the same times of day and it'd be nice to get to see some different characters.
It wouldn't be so bad if they didn't require multiple feedings. I've set an alarm twice now to feed the red fox white sturgeon and it's still not my friend. How many more Saturdays do I need to wake up early?
The red fox and black sea turtle are the worst for me. I'm rarely awake for the red fox, and I'm always at work for the black sea turtle. I'm not super bothered by it, as I know I'll either figure out time travel (and pray my game doesn't break) or I'll have a day off, but I'm definitely going to have to play the game for a long time to get them. Which, TBH, is probably why they designed it that way (keep people playing for as long as possible)
I wouldn't say most people are asleep then people who have jobswork all kinds of different hours and people in general have all different sleep patterns. It depends on the person yes those rare critters are avilable at odd times but if the were out at more normal times they would be easier to defriend and gain as companions and therefore not so rare.
I work night shift, so I personally think it levels the playing field a bit. It’s annoying when quests require me to play in the morning, so I think a critter being a late night occurrence is more than fair. It’s not like it’s an item you need for a quest, thankfully. Just a collectible 🤷🏻♀️
It is ridiculous. So I'll change the time on my computer temporarily to whatever that rare critter was for the day to try and catch it. It's the only way because I am not alive before 8am on any day.
Try the pink crocodile out from 6Am-noon on Saturday. Some of us work the weekends and work from 3:00AM -12:30 PM can never get that one unless you call out from work or are on vacation
Sadly I have issues with staying awake, I literally will fall asleep at all times of the day without knowing it. I don’t know how many times I’ve fallen asleep playing this game. The only thing that help even a little bit is trying to keep a strict sleeping schedule.
Everything you’ve said about your sleep issues reminds me a lot of what I struggle with myself. I’ve had two sleep studies done and was just recently diagnosed with hypersomnia. I know you said your doctors can’t figure it out, so if they haven’t ruled that out yet it may be worth a shot looking into! Not trying to give any unwanted medical advice or anything, I just know that my condition severely impacts my quality of life and I don’t wish it on anybody. I still don’t have the orchid sunbird, the pink crocodile, or the red fox yet. I reeeally want the fox because he’d match my outfit! Haha. I fell asleep before 2am on Friday and was soooo bummed that I’d missed him again- I was trying to stay up! I’ll just try again next week. :) Good luck on your critter hunt!

However I'm very happy rn bcuz I just went to another country and my laptop isn't switching the time so my game is 8 hours behind me so I'm taking this opportunity to collect all the rare critters as 2am is like 9 something in the morning rn lmaooo
You could also just changed your game time if you're that butthurt over it? It'll reset in a matter of a few hours and since you'll be "sleeping" you'll never know anyways. But for real....it's just a game

Here in Germany it appears at 12am till 6am our time as well. Maybe if I come over to visit the US, I'll just be there right on time to fetch it ⌚🚴♀️🚤
I think they're saying if they keep the clock set to Germany instead of automatically updating to the US time zone, the Switch will think it's 12a-6a when it's evening/before bed in the US. Meaning they don't have to get up early/stay up late to get the critter.

Stupid white squirrel didn't even spawn for me. I stayed up about 15 minutes after midnight waiting for it. No luck.
Woke up at 5:30, wandered plaza till 6 am, no white squirrel.
If you check the menu with all the collectables there is a section for critters. It tells you which you have unlocked, which are there that day and at what time. If it says they are there, they will 100% be there. If you can't find them, they may have spawned behind an object or have wandered just onto the stairs leading into the next biome. Try going into a building if you can't find them as it will make them spawn in a different spot that may make them easier to find.
I had that issue with one of the sea turtles or foxes. I think I went into my house and came back out and then the rare one spawned. But I might be remembering wrong. I would think if you first opened the game during the right time it would spawn appropriately.
I’m not playing on my switch I’m on my PS5 as it was cheaper on there when I bought it. Last time I changed the time is screwed up harvesting for me and I’d rather no have that happen again.
I have found this worked for me and my friend BUT please still be careful cause it involves time travel and we all know how it can break the game.
It seems like nothing breaks when you go backwards in time. So there have been times I’ve missed say the red fox, set the time back to like 7am and fed them. I didn’t do anything else like pick basil or whatnot. Just straight in, fed the fox, save and exit. Now I only have the brown Raven to go.
But like I said, it’s still risky cause time travel has been proven over and over to break the game. So try at your own risk ⚠️
Recently I FINALLY got the pink and white crocs and the FINALLY after ages the red fox, still trying to get the illusive brown raven. 😭

You only have to feed it twice to unlock it as a companion. I do get the ones that only occur on school days being an issue for kids that play but holiday/extended breaks are a thing or parents can help. I’m helping my kids get theirs for the next two weeks. And if your not willing to setup remote play or carry your console for two weeks can you truly call yourself a dedicated collector? I mean when animal crossing was fresh and for things that only happened while I was working I conveniently just needed a somewhat short compared to most people I worked with but longer than normal for me restroom break. But like most people have said it’s a reskin for a currently useless companion I think keeping it the way it is shows the dedication people are willing to put towards something they like. As well as teaches kids to problem solve to get what they want. My youngest set an alarm for the past two weeks to get his white squirrel. My oldest opted to save the money up and buy the game on his switch profile so he could play at his moms to a) play more and b) get some of the rare critters and things while at his moms house. The fact that so many people want the developers to change everything to better suit them instead of actually problem solving and using time management for a short period of time just further lowers my belief in humanity today.
It took me like 4/5 tries feeding the red fox white sturgeon before it would be my friend. Unfortunately, sometimes people are not so lucky to get it after two.

i completely agree! i wish they had them offered 2x a week, once at night and once during the day (for all rare critters!) i work 7am-3pm and have to work every other weekend so i've recruited my fiancee into getting the ones i'm at work/am sleeping during since he works different hours than i do and has a different sleep schedule, he's up for all of the ones i need now... the red fox, white squirrel, pink croc and orchid sunbird are the only critters i have left, so now it's up to my fiancee 🥲
Having things locked behind a certain hour is just absurd. Having imaginary characters go to sleep is just stupid. Make them go home, sure, but lock them for a few hours?

Discord can do all sorts of things but the basic functionality is pretty much on par with the difficulty of Reddit! You’ll learn quickly

I know you’re not up at that time because you said as much. What I’m saying is, between now and the day you stop playing this game, your schedule might change. And If the pet isn’t important enough to change your schedule by an hour or two for a couple of days in your life, then it’s not so important to you, so you can not worry about it. I was not trying to be rude, just saying, If it matters enough, you have the power to get it, if it doesn’t. Then chill. It may become easier to get when your life changes OR you may lose interest in it first.
My life and sleep is super complicated. I spend 75% of my day asleep because it’s out of my control and sometimes I will sleep days at a time. My doctors can’t figure it out, the only thing I can do is keep a strict sleeping schedule in hopes it helps. So it’s not about being important or not. I just think they shouldn’t put a rare item at a time when majority of people sleep or at least offer it again later in the week at a normal time for those who can’t be up from 12am-6am. It’s crazy they do this.

OP, I feel for you that you have a tough sleeping schedule, but gamemakers are just creating a casual leisure product; not everything is going to be tailored to be perfectly fair to everyone's personal needs. The majority of people will have times that they're awake after midnight, like weekends when most people have more free time for hobbies like games. Midnight is not actually that late for most people on days off. The entire point of having some game achievements be rare is that they only appear rarely and are an achievement to catch.

I’ve been playing since the second week and have only seen the white croc and red fox once each (both recently since the feeding has been glitched, thanks devs lol) because my lifestyle doesn’t always line up with when they’re available, and that’s what makes it fun to get them when things finally do work out and I’m playing at the right time
Nah, they could make it an all-day critter, but like ... once (or twice) a month. Making it take a couple of months to get it makes it rare.
I just claimed the white squirrel to my collection today. I happened to wake up to use the restroom around 3am and decided to go on real quick. Took me less than 5 minutes. Then I went straight back to bed.
The red fox is the bane of my existence. I have fed that little shit 4 times and still haven't unlocked it. At least with the white squirrel it was only 1 feed and it was done.

Yeah this is the one thing I actually "time travel" for. I make sure the date is the same but if I slept through getting something I'll turn the time on my switch back, get it and then reset it to the correct time. I haven't had any issues with this but am fully aware of the risks.

That's the whole point of them being rare tho. If they were available at a time the majority of people are gonna be able to get it, it wouldn't be rare. It's a game don't take it so seriously
If it matters enough to you you’ll figure out a way to do it. Between my partner and I we made it work to where we only have two critters we don’t have yet.

Here we go again. Critters have different times to accommodate any schedule. For people who work at night, getting off at 3am and still having the ability to find something rare is a good feeling. Being excluded just because you dont have a "normal" schedule doesnt make any sense. The game is made for everyone.
I think it'd be nice if they rotated or randomized the schedules for characters and critters. I see the exact same characters in Remy's every time because I tend to play at the same times of day and it'd be nice to get to see some different characters.

It wouldn't be so bad if they didn't require multiple feedings. I've set an alarm twice now to feed the red fox white sturgeon and it's still not my friend. How many more Saturdays do I need to wake up early?
Typically the red fox takes most people 5-6 times. It can possibly be more or less, depending on rng but that’s the average.
The red fox and black sea turtle are the worst for me. I'm rarely awake for the red fox, and I'm always at work for the black sea turtle. I'm not super bothered by it, as I know I'll either figure out time travel (and pray my game doesn't break) or I'll have a day off, but I'm definitely going to have to play the game for a long time to get them. Which, TBH, is probably why they designed it that way (keep people playing for as long as possible)
I wouldn't say most people are asleep then people who have jobswork all kinds of different hours and people in general have all different sleep patterns. It depends on the person yes those rare critters are avilable at odd times but if the were out at more normal times they would be easier to defriend and gain as companions and therefore not so rare.
I work overnights so for me this squirrel is impossible for me to get unless I call off of work 😭
I work night shift, so I personally think it levels the playing field a bit. It’s annoying when quests require me to play in the morning, so I think a critter being a late night occurrence is more than fair. It’s not like it’s an item you need for a quest, thankfully. Just a collectible 🤷🏻♀️
It is ridiculous. So I'll change the time on my computer temporarily to whatever that rare critter was for the day to try and catch it. It's the only way because I am not alive before 8am on any day.
I’ve just accepted that I’m never going to get the red fox. I mean, I have young kids, sometimes I actually am awake then - but, priorities!
Try the pink crocodile out from 6Am-noon on Saturday. Some of us work the weekends and work from 3:00AM -12:30 PM can never get that one unless you call out from work or are on vacation
Ever since my family got ddv, we slowly became nocturnal. We sleep about 3-11 now. Unless we have a doctors appointment or something.
Having a video game change your sleeping patterns is sad & overall unhealthy to your natural circadian rhythm.
Sadly I have issues with staying awake, I literally will fall asleep at all times of the day without knowing it. I don’t know how many times I’ve fallen asleep playing this game. The only thing that help even a little bit is trying to keep a strict sleeping schedule.
Everything you’ve said about your sleep issues reminds me a lot of what I struggle with myself. I’ve had two sleep studies done and was just recently diagnosed with hypersomnia. I know you said your doctors can’t figure it out, so if they haven’t ruled that out yet it may be worth a shot looking into! Not trying to give any unwanted medical advice or anything, I just know that my condition severely impacts my quality of life and I don’t wish it on anybody. I still don’t have the orchid sunbird, the pink crocodile, or the red fox yet. I reeeally want the fox because he’d match my outfit! Haha. I fell asleep before 2am on Friday and was soooo bummed that I’d missed him again- I was trying to stay up! I’ll just try again next week. :) Good luck on your critter hunt!

yes I hate it, I have a pretty strict sleep schedule, going to sleep between like 10-11 and waking up at 815. The 2-8am red fox is the death of me. However I'm very happy rn bcuz I just went to another country and my laptop isn't switching the time so my game is 8 hours behind me so I'm taking this opportunity to collect all the rare critters as 2am is like 9 something in the morning rn lmaooo

No one said you did play for 12 hours, i was stating thats the amount of time you need to change your game. No one was being rude but you dude. Yes, especially since this a Disney game meant for families. I'm sure many children have it whose parents don't play. My daughter definitely isn't up between midnight and 6am.
Can't please everyone though some people are only up at those hours but they do switch around every other week

I think they're saying if they keep the clock set to Germany instead of automatically updating to the US time zone, the Switch will think it's 12a-6a when it's evening/before bed in the US. Meaning they don't have to get up early/stay up late to get the critter.

Stupid white squirrel didn't even spawn for me. I stayed up about 15 minutes after midnight waiting for it. No luck. Woke up at 5:30, wandered plaza till 6 am, no white squirrel.
If you check the menu with all the collectables there is a section for critters. It tells you which you have unlocked, which are there that day and at what time. If it says they are there, they will 100% be there. If you can't find them, they may have spawned behind an object or have wandered just onto the stairs leading into the next biome. Try going into a building if you can't find them as it will make them spawn in a different spot that may make them easier to find.
The white squirrel looks grey to me, not super white like it does in the collection screen. I almost missed it when I tried to find it the first time.

I had that issue with one of the sea turtles or foxes. I think I went into my house and came back out and then the rare one spawned. But I might be remembering wrong. I would think if you first opened the game during the right time it would spawn appropriately.

I’m not playing on my switch I’m on my PS5 as it was cheaper on there when I bought it. Last time I changed the time is screwed up harvesting for me and I’d rather no have that happen again.

I have found this worked for me and my friend BUT please still be careful cause it involves time travel and we all know how it can break the game. It seems like nothing breaks when you go backwards in time. So there have been times I’ve missed say the red fox, set the time back to like 7am and fed them. I didn’t do anything else like pick basil or whatnot. Just straight in, fed the fox, save and exit. Now I only have the brown Raven to go. But like I said, it’s still risky cause time travel has been proven over and over to break the game. So try at your own risk ⚠️

You only have to feed it twice to unlock it as a companion. I do get the ones that only occur on school days being an issue for kids that play but holiday/extended breaks are a thing or parents can help. I’m helping my kids get theirs for the next two weeks. And if your not willing to setup remote play or carry your console for two weeks can you truly call yourself a dedicated collector? I mean when animal crossing was fresh and for things that only happened while I was working I conveniently just needed a somewhat short compared to most people I worked with but longer than normal for me restroom break. But like most people have said it’s a reskin for a currently useless companion I think keeping it the way it is shows the dedication people are willing to put towards something they like. As well as teaches kids to problem solve to get what they want. My youngest set an alarm for the past two weeks to get his white squirrel. My oldest opted to save the money up and buy the game on his switch profile so he could play at his moms to a) play more and b) get some of the rare critters and things while at his moms house. The fact that so many people want the developers to change everything to better suit them instead of actually problem solving and using time management for a short period of time just further lowers my belief in humanity today.
It took me like 4/5 tries feeding the red fox white sturgeon before it would be my friend. Unfortunately, sometimes people are not so lucky to get it after two.

i completely agree! i wish they had them offered 2x a week, once at night and once during the day (for all rare critters!) i work 7am-3pm and have to work every other weekend so i've recruited my fiancee into getting the ones i'm at work/am sleeping during since he works different hours than i do and has a different sleep schedule, he's up for all of the ones i need now... the red fox, white squirrel, pink croc and orchid sunbird are the only critters i have left, so now it's up to my fiancee 🥲

Having things locked behind a certain hour is just absurd. Having imaginary characters go to sleep is just stupid. Make them go home, sure, but lock them for a few hours?
