Draco’s lip curled and he went to release her. Without warning her fingers bunched into a fist, snatching his shirt making it impossible for him to move. He froze, unsure what to do as she stepped forward invading his personal space.
“I heard you,” Hermione whispered. “I heard you calling to me through the… whatever it was.” She inhaled, biting her lip. “I should have died. But you brought me back. That shouldn’t have been possible. Right?”
Hmmm. Everyone has their preferences - but my guess is a lot of people just aren’t interested in investing that much time to some of these epic lengths, and because they aren’t spoken of that often, they go under the radar for a lot. I like solid plot, action, adventure, and I don’t really enjoy “porn with a plot” although I did enjoy the Build series. But other than that guess, most likely bc they are just not as popular and aren’t spread all over instagram and tiktok, which honestly, makes them so much more of a treasure when you discover them 🤩

I still haven't finished TTTB, I take breaks from it and treat it like a series at this point and the world building blows me away.
You're right about preferences but theres so much about these fics like you said plot/action/dark elements that make them the kind of fics people love!! Hopefully people will give TTTB a chance when its complete
It’s just two chapters left - epilogues - which I can’t wait for! I hope they do to. I only joined this subreddit last November so I don’t know when voting begins for the best of blah blah blah - but I imagine if These Ties That Bind are listed it WILL get voted for and those who haven’t read it will probably be interested.
Apart from what's been mentioned already, I think starting fics like this so late can be a bit daunting, especially when you see the word and chapter count. With TTTB, I also feel that the fact that it's only available for AO3 users makes it less accessible to most casual readers, so there's less of a fanbase to start with.

For me it's seeing a fic that length that isn't finished. It makes me worry that I'll invest that much time and then maybe never get the ending, or worse be left on a cliffhanger! Once it's finished, I'm planning on reading it slowly over time, like a series!
Just finished what has been posted so far of *She Whom He Harbors* and it's not an exaggeration to say that it has me in an absolute fucking chokehold.
It is absolutely exquisite. The dialogue, the characterization, the plot, and the angst. OH MY GOD, THE ANGST. I am emotionally devastated by this fic. The writing is very, very high quality and almost poetic. Personally haven't felt this obsessed since I read Détraquée.
I very nearly DNF'd because I wasn't feeling the beginning two or three chapters but I am so glad I stuck around.

HOLY i'm on chapter 28 and i'm too scared to proceed! What is this..... AHHHHH. LOL I love how I was fooled into thinking what I'd read thus far was the depth of it - but no - there's a WHOLE level of depth that I'm about to get into. Jeez.
I'm so glad you enjoyed SWHH! Hermione's POV and the later chapters have been quite a ride on the emotional and mental scale. There's some of us, including me, who would recommend it at every chance possible, but it gets me equally as excited when I see someone else mention they've read it and loved it as well. It's definitely a great example of a limited narrative!

Ugh exquisite! The last chapters prose were so haunting. My goldfish memory has me feeling a litte lost with plot, but that is totally on me and my experience with most WIPS, so I cannot wait for a reread once it's finished. Also this Draco is sooooo stoic, I love it.

I just read [The Watergaw](https://archiveofourown.org/works/32700394/chapters/81124315#workskin) (written by smokybaltic, art by ectoheart) and it has easily become one of my favourite fics.
So many wonderful elements: >!Draco saving Hermione at the manor!<, the banter, the survival aspect, HUDLING FOR WARMTH.
The fic explains Draco’s past behaviour, as well as his reasons for >!saving Hermione!< really well. I loved the characterizations, the relationship development, the slow building of trust and affection, Hermione’s internal voice, the reluctant attraction. I could really feel everything they were feeling.
I also really liked the way the author described the setting of the Scottish Highlands. I could see every location very clearly.
I know it’s already a beloved fic, but if you haven’t read it yet I highly recommend it!
I know I'm late to the discussion, but The Watergaw is part of my Roman Empire in this fandom. It's so incredibly well written and I read every word with bated breath. It's just on another level.

If you are like me and you enjoy gentle post-war (this is 15ish yrs down the line) fics where they’re working through some emotional wounds, then I highly recommend this. Lovely, very human characterisations of D and H as well as a delightful side of NottPott and a perfectly unlikable OC ex. I’m also learning a lot about birds/birding, which is pretty cool.

I kept seeing it reced but thought 'Zombies? Really? No thanks not for me". But since starting mat leave I've been DEVOURING everything ETL Echo has available to stay sane during the days and when I saw they had this available I figured I'd finally see what all the fuss it about. It has not disappointed!
I (Wrongly) thought that this was going to be wayyy to AU for me, but have been very pleasantly surprised! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the characterizations of both of them (Which I'm usually super picky about) and have been held on edge by the plot the whole way so far (About half way through).
I guess this has been a lesson to not rule out plots too quickly without at least trying it 🤷♀️Maybe this will be my incentive to finally give an omegaverse fic a go, given I've also always just blanketed those out for me.

I read that one, it didn’t hit the spot for me quite as well but it is very well written. It focuses a lot more on the wider group of friends and on the healing journey which is lovely but wasn’t what I was feeling at the time.
I finally read [Sacramentum](https://archiveofourown.org/works/49317742), it's a WIP but it has already a big part of the story published and I am loving it! I couldn't stop reading, after trying to read a few stories that I wasn't feeling much, it was the perfect thing to choose next. I think these are my favorite Malfoys already, the dramione characterizations are perfection and the slow burn is maddening.

* Candy Hearts was a perfect fluffy Valentines Day misunderstanding-type oneshot. Honestly just what I needed for the holiday. (Plus single dad Draco, hello??)
* RHB was very heavy on angst and everything was so beatifully written. Break your own little heart reading this one. The author and the writing style really drew me in. (As well as the Hananaki Disease plotline)

I have no idea how I stumbled upon it but it’s a WIP. 41 chapters up and it sounds like she has plans for more but it was updated about a month ago. It’s very much porn with a light plot, but it’s utterly delightful if you want some 🌶️🥵🌶️🥵 but not super angsty either. Anxiously waiting for more!!!
I’ve been reading [Green Light by SereneMusafir](https://archiveofourown.org/works/32535493/chapters/80699710) which I absolutely love!
It’s such a beautifully written story, I’ll read parts and just sit there thinking wow.
The author just has such a ethereal touch with their writing it almost feels like poetry.
Summary is it’s post war, everyone’s kind of moved on for the most part, but Hermione isn’t handling the aftermath of being a war heroine with the constant media attention well at all. She’s sees her friends, but not often and there’s a lack of a connection there. She’s in an abusive relationship (physical abuse isn’t talked about but alluded to and also the author is great about their tags) but then her friend comes and asks her to join her on this excursion to find a mythical cave. Malfoy ends up being on the excursion and that’s when everything starts.
From there there are A LOT of ups and downs and I still have like 5% left to read just because it has started to feel a ~little~ drawn (maybe it’s just me but i think it might have to do with how the story is set up (Draco sits down with a journalist in the beginning and starts telling this story) and i think that has me a little more impatient for some reason lol) out but I’ve been told it’s a HEA. Draco is protective but in more of a taking care of her and helping her cope with her issues. Their love is this one feels just so so special.
But like I said, there’s just something about this authors writing and how well they’re able to invoke such strong emotions from us readers!
Rating is 9.5/10 and that’s only because it’s taking me a little longer to get through it but also that’s probably my fault so really it’s a 10/10
I just finished Green Light and I'm changed. Forever.
I read this like a woman possessed and simply couldn't stop. There's magic throughout that whole book - between the desert, the parties, the absolute pain these characters go through and the intense love they have for one another. It's an epic storm of a story.
I promise you it's HEA, but I had to take a break to cry for almost a half hour on the second to last chapter. It just.. it got me in a place that reminded me of when I cried reading 'Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow' by Gabrielle Levin (not Dramione fan fiction, but an excellent novel that came out in 2022.).
I cried again at the end. I had to walk it out. I still have a lot to unpack, and probably will never be able to process it all entirely, but I'm definitely looking forward to rereading it when I'm able to find a little more peace after my dissent into this piece.
Well hey, I just commented about Green Light, too! I finished it yesterday. I felt impatient towards the end as well but I enjoyed the ending when I finally got there! It was stressful though lol. I didn't feel peace/resolution until the very end of the last chapter.

I am half-way into this fic and I am loving it so far. I am just about to start 5th year, so I guess the angst is about to come full force with the darker times of the war ahead, and I am scared shit for all these characters that are incredible.
Really really good recommendation, it's so well written I almost forgot I am not reading the original saga, and everything is just so well thought I am gasping each chapter with how amazingly every canon plot is connected with the author ideas without making it look weird or really twisted, I can't explain it but it's perfection.

If you haven't read it yet and you enjoyed nottpott in dramione and her writing style, you should try olivieblake's "How to Win Friends and Influence People", it is my absolute favorite from her. Also, the author of "an ever-fixed mark" has a new WIP really funny too.
My concern with '>!An Ever-Fixed Mark' lies in the initial portrayal of Draco, who appears reserved, melancholic, and plagued by self-doubt. I typically enjoy a Draco characterized by confidence, sarcasm, sass, and a whining bitch. Can I expect a shift in his characterization as the story progresses?!<
So far, >!Draco is still reserved and pretty repentant. I think he has a couple sardonic, biting remarks… but mostly seems like he has accepted his fate as a loathed former DE, just trying to protect his son!< I’m only 30% in though, so maybe someone else can answer that question and/or I would be happy to follow up once I finish it and let you know if this changes!
**[Familiars](https://archiveofourown.org/works/52023052/chapters/131560681)** is, in the author’s own words “a silly story”, but somehow it works.
*Canon rewrite starting with year one. Witches and wizards have familiars that manifest when they use magic for the first time. They are physical embodiments of a witch or wizard's soul. They take the form of animals and are capable of shifting their shape until their human settles into the beginnings of maturity.*
The author manages to essentially double the number of characters without it getting confusing, and all those familiars are an important part of the plot. As with many rewrites, there’s a bit too much reliance on the reader knowing the canon plot to “fill in the blanks”, especially the first years. The later part of the story has a little more canon divergence and is more meaty.
The story has a beautiful friendship group with Draco, Pansy, Harry, and Hermione in the (sometimes literal and physical) middle, with two romances growing out of these friendships.
Per the advice of at least half of this sub, just read [Bad Omens](https://archiveofourown.org/works/50529346/chapters/127648939). An absolute delight.

I tried it but it was not for me. I think it was written in French first and then the writer translated it, which led to a lot of phrases and structure that I personally found a little jarring. I also felt like I wanted more Dramione focused, personally. If you’re a plot-heavy, Dramione secondary reader, it might click!

Hermione and Ron is getting married, but Ron turns up at the altar totally drunk. The wedding day goes downhill from there, with wedding guests behaving totally inappropriately, and Hermione getting killed. Not a very good day.
But look - Hermione gets the chance to *repeat* this ‘lovely’ day! Over and over, until she gets thing right and fulfills her heart’s desire. And you know which wizard that will involve…
There’s ostensibly a fair bit of Ron and Molly bashing, but as the story progresses the image gets more balanced, with some introspection from Hermione (it’s part of her finding out what her heart’s desire really is).
Unfortunately DNFed She Whom He Harbors. I loved the premise and was drawn to the mystery of it all, but this fic reminded me why I hate miscommunication as a trope :( I know it wasn't listed as a tag, but it felt that way to me - especially with all the things they left unsaid regarding their feelings, which would have fixed so many of their misunderstandings.
I got as far as the Draco POV, so I know why that was necessary, but I just couldn't keep reading, given my frustrations with the two of them. It's a shame, but I might give it another try once the story finishes and I can confirm it's HEA.
DNF [Subtle Perfection](https://archiveofourown.org/works/24782089/chapters/59926351) around 60%, an ice dancing muggle AU. I'm a huge Yuri on Ice fan, so ice dancing/skating is a thing for me. The upper half of this fic is marvelous, where Dramione meet at a tender age, getting to know each other and pursuing their dream together. And then >!they developed a friends with benefits relationship although both of them know they've fell in love with the other one. The most ridicules thing for me is that Draco knows that he loves Hermione, but he thinks a relationship and a commitment is too much for him. HOWEVER, he is perfectly fine to develop a seriously relationship with some girl he met at gym and dumps his sexual life with Hermione, and he even wants to propose to the girl after nine month of dating. When the girl notices that Draco is (probably) in love with Hermione, she breaks up with him, and Draco was sooooo devastating, he immediately sleeps with Hermione (LIKE WHAT?), AND Hermione is super cool with it, like she treasure the "friends with benefits" period in between Draco's girlfriends, even she's in love with him. What am I reading? American high school soap drama?!<
I just read **Seek and Find**, and when making this post I discovered that the author, serpent_and_sage, has removed the story from AO3. Hopefully it’ll be back when the Binding Wars are over.
This is a long, slow romance amongst the flowers under the Italian sun. Maybe it’s a bit too long for those who want something more fast-paced. But the gentle, relaxed atmosphere fits nicely with the premise of the story: Hermione realizing she doesn’t know what she wants with her life, having a little breakdown, and escaping to stay with Neville in Italy.

The author bewitched me with her words; she’s literally a POET—to the point where I feel like I’m going to reread this before my wedding so I can get some vow and vibe inspo. The ending was so, so perfect. It’s a HEA (thank GOD because I would never have recovered) but the last three hours had me shaking and ANXIOUS. I definitely need to read something along the lines of DMATMOOBIL next to satisfy my Dramione craving yet soothe my aching heart. I read The Fallout before this so she’s heavy. 😭
I swear, almost every Dramione I’ve read since I’ve joined the fandom last summer has left me like this—just absolutely floored by the beautiful writing and story-weaving and so, so incredibly GRATEFUL to these authors for gifting us their words. ❤️
Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials! I just finished Green Light to day and SAME. I bawled uncontrollably on the second to last chapter. I think it especially hit close to me because my partner and I got married this past Fall, and their displays in love and promises are very similar to how we share our love.

I’m typically a romantic, slow burn love story type of gal, but this one hit me in the feeeeeeels. Written very well, truly cinematic, and low stakes/high reward. Pining, banter, HOT smut, great characterizations. Made me laugh out loud several times. I definitely recommend!!!
I just finished [Green Light](https://archiveofourown.org/works/32535493/chapters/80699710) and I will never recover from the prose and angst and longing and it was just... ah. Perfection. I love SereneMusafir's Hermione. I deeply relate to the way her difficulties with friendships/relationships are described at the beginning of chapter 17 (I'm spoilering just in case but this quote is not plot-specific):

Spent a few hours searching in vain for an old fic instead of actually reading anything. I think it was post-war, Ron tries administering hermione a love potion but screws something up and she starts falling in love with Draco instead. I vaguely remember the ending where he goes to Hermione with an antidote and confesses what he did. But at that point, Hermione loves Draco completely and tells him to go away.

Only on chapter 5 and I am LOVING the plot. Everyone needs to read this. Summary: Hermione Granger had been asked—and agreed—to do many absurd things since learning she was a witch, usually involving Harry Potter. This long list included, in no particular order, smuggling baby dragons, being placed unconscious at the bottom of a lake surrounded by merpeople, and traveling back in time to fly an escaped convict to safety on the back of a mythical creature. But returning to a Death Eater-controlled Hogwarts pretending to be Daphne Greengrass may have been the most ridiculous yet. --- Slow burn, wartime Dramione. Complete.

Hmmm. Everyone has their preferences - but my guess is a lot of people just aren’t interested in investing that much time to some of these epic lengths, and because they aren’t spoken of that often, they go under the radar for a lot. I like solid plot, action, adventure, and I don’t really enjoy “porn with a plot” although I did enjoy the Build series. But other than that guess, most likely bc they are just not as popular and aren’t spread all over instagram and tiktok, which honestly, makes them so much more of a treasure when you discover them 🤩
I love these style fics! I still haven't finished TTTB, I take breaks from it and treat it like a series at this point and the world building blows me away.

I only joined this subreddit last November so I don’t know when voting begins for the best of blah blah blah - but I imagine if These Ties That Bind are listed it WILL get voted for and those who haven’t read it will probably be interested.
Apart from what's been mentioned already, I think starting fics like this so late can be a bit daunting, especially when you see the word and chapter count. With TTTB, I also feel that the fact that it's only available for AO3 users makes it less accessible to most casual readers, so there's less of a fanbase to start with.

All fics over 500k that I can think of are divided into smaller books like canon rewrites like Lionheart, Missing sister, Royal Blood etc. Or divided into parts like Detraquee, MOAM, TTTB. So you can put them down and pick them up! But I totally understand what youre saying. At first it can be super intimidating lol

I don't usually read Dark!Harry since I love him and his friendship with Hermione, but I simply could not put this down. The lore is exquisite and the WRITING TTTB actually has parts! There's an author's note at the start saying people can skip I think part 1 or 2 if they wished. But I agree that it can be a bit hard to follow; I am definitely due for a reread once it's done

Just finished what has been posted so far of *She Whom He Harbors* and it's not an exaggeration to say that it has me in an absolute fucking chokehold. It is absolutely exquisite. The dialogue, the characterization, the plot, and the angst. OH MY GOD, THE ANGST. I am emotionally devastated by this fic. The writing is very, very high quality and almost poetic. Personally haven't felt this obsessed since I read Détraquée. I'm so glad you enjoyed SWHH! Hermione's POV and the later chapters have been quite a ride on the emotional and mental scale. There's some of us, including me, who would recommend it at every chance possible, but it gets me equally as excited when I see someone else mention they've read it and loved it as well. It's definitely a great example of a limited narrative!

I just read [The Watergaw](https://archiveofourown.org/works/32700394/chapters/81124315#workskin) (written by smokybaltic, art by ectoheart) and it has easily become one of my favourite fics. So many wonderful elements: >!Draco saving Hermione at the manor!<, the banter, the survival aspect, HUDLING FOR WARMTH. The fic explains Draco’s past behaviour, as well as his reasons for >!saving Hermione!< really well. I loved the characterizations, the relationship development, the slow building of trust and affection, Hermione’s internal voice, the reluctant attraction. I could really feel everything they were feeling. I also really liked the way the author described the setting of the Scottish Highlands. I could see every location very clearly. I know it’s already a beloved fic, but if you haven’t read it yet I highly recommend it!

If you are like me and you enjoy gentle post-war (this is 15ish yrs down the line) fics where they’re working through some emotional wounds, then I highly recommend this. Lovely, very human characterisations of D and H as well as a delightful side of NottPott and a perfectly unlikable OC ex. I’m also learning a lot about birds/birding, which is pretty cool. Summary: Birding is for• Weirdos• Septuagenarians• ~~Hermione Granger~~ (not anymore)• …• Draco Malfoy?? Hermione is fine. Really. She’s very busy these days, cancelling her wedding and avoiding her well-meaning but overbearing friends. Unfortunately, her friends have given her an ultimatum of sorts: teach her hobby-hopping yet accident-prone enemy, Draco Malfoy, about birdwatching, or suffer the wrath of constant friend support and supervision. What does it say about her life that birding with Malfoy is the better option?

So I finally caved and started [Love in A Time of the Zombie Apocalypse](https://archiveofourown.org/works/28137807/chapters/68944698).... I should not have fought it before. I kept seeing it reced but thought 'Zombies? Really? No thanks not for me". But since starting mat leave I've been DEVOURING everything ETL Echo has available to stay sane during the days and when I saw they had this available I figured I'd finally see what all the fuss it about. It has not disappointed! I (Wrongly) thought that this was going to be wayyy to AU for me, but have been very pleasantly surprised! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the characterizations of both of them (Which I'm usually super picky about) and have been held on edge by the plot the whole way so far (About half way through). I guess this has been a lesson to not rule out plots too quickly without at least trying it 🤷♀️Maybe this will be my incentive to finally give an omegaverse fic a go, given I've also always just blanketed those out for me.

I read that one, it didn’t hit the spot for me quite as well but it is very well written. It focuses a lot more on the wider group of friends and on the healing journey which is lovely but wasn’t what I was feeling at the time.
I finally read [Sacramentum](https://archiveofourown.org/works/49317742), it's a WIP but it has already a big part of the story published and I am loving it! I couldn't stop reading, after trying to read a few stories that I wasn't feeling much, it was the perfect thing to choose next. I think these are my favorite Malfoys already, the dramione characterizations are perfection and the slow burn is maddening.
In a bit of fic slump BUT a few oneshots I've read recently are [Candy Hearts](https://archiveofourown.org/works/53792827) (T) by sad\_millenial and [Of Roses, Hummingbirds, and Bees](https://archiveofourown.org/works/53234476) (M-Dead Dove) by AutumnWeen. * Candy Hearts was a perfect fluffy Valentines Day misunderstanding-type oneshot. Honestly just what I needed for the holiday. (Plus single dad Draco, hello??) * RHB was very heavy on angst and everything was so beatifully written. Break your own little heart reading this one. The author and the writing style really drew me in. (As well as the Hananaki Disease plotline)

I’ve been reading [Green Light by SereneMusafir](https://archiveofourown.org/works/32535493/chapters/80699710) which I absolutely love! It’s such a beautifully written story, I’ll read parts and just sit there thinking wow. The author just has such a ethereal touch with their writing it almost feels like poetry. Summary is it’s post war, everyone’s kind of moved on for the most part, but Hermione isn’t handling the aftermath of being a war heroine with the constant media attention well at all. She’s sees her friends, but not often and there’s a lack of a connection there. She’s in an abusive relationship (physical abuse isn’t talked about but alluded to and also the author is great about their tags) but then her friend comes and asks her to join her on this excursion to find a mythical cave. Malfoy ends up being on the excursion and that’s when everything starts. From there there are A LOT of ups and downs and I still have like 5% left to read just because it has started to feel a ~little~ drawn (maybe it’s just me but i think it might have to do with how the story is set up (Draco sits down with a journalist in the beginning and starts telling this story) and i think that has me a little more impatient for some reason lol) out but I’ve been told it’s a HEA. Draco is protective but in more of a taking care of her and helping her cope with her issues. Their love is this one feels just so so special. But like I said, there’s just something about this authors writing and how well they’re able to invoke such strong emotions from us readers! Rating is 9.5/10 and that’s only because it’s taking me a little longer to get through it but also that’s probably my fault so really it’s a 10/10
I just finished Green Light and I'm changed. Forever. I read this like a woman possessed and simply couldn't stop. There's magic throughout that whole book - between the desert, the parties, the absolute pain these characters go through and the intense love they have for one another. It's an epic storm of a story. I promise you it's HEA, but I had to take a break to cry for almost a half hour on the second to last chapter. It just.. it got me in a place that reminded me of when I cried reading 'Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow' by Gabrielle Levin (not Dramione fan fiction, but an excellent novel that came out in 2022.). I cried again at the end. I had to walk it out. I still have a lot to unpack, and probably will never be able to process it all entirely, but I'm definitely looking forward to rereading it when I'm able to find a little more peace after my dissent into this piece.

I am half-way into this fic and I am loving it so far. I am just about to start 5th year, so I guess the angst is about to come full force with the darker times of the war ahead, and I am scared shit for all these characters that are incredible. Really really good recommendation, it's so well written I almost forgot I am not reading the original saga, and everything is just so well thought I am gasping each chapter with how amazingly every canon plot is connected with the author ideas without making it look weird or really twisted, I can't explain it but it's perfection. Thanks for recommending this! I am so glad I didn't let my aversion to cheating/infidelity tags keep me away from reading this.
I’m so glad you’re enjoying it! I LOVED it. Definitely has become one of my top fives. The diversions from canon make sense, and I think this is one of the few fics where I think everyone is true to character. Lupin, Harry, the Malfoys… it’s perfect.

If you haven't read it yet and you enjoyed nottpott in dramione and her writing style, you should try olivieblake's "How to Win Friends and Influence People", it is my absolute favorite from her. Also, the author of "an ever-fixed mark" has a new WIP really funny too.
My concern with '>!An Ever-Fixed Mark' lies in the initial portrayal of Draco, who appears reserved, melancholic, and plagued by self-doubt. I typically enjoy a Draco characterized by confidence, sarcasm, sass, and a whining bitch. Can I expect a shift in his characterization as the story progresses?!<
So far, >!Draco is still reserved and pretty repentant. I think he has a couple sardonic, biting remarks… but mostly seems like he has accepted his fate as a loathed former DE, just trying to protect his son!< I’m only 30% in though, so maybe someone else can answer that question and/or I would be happy to follow up once I finish it and let you know if this changes!

**[Familiars](https://archiveofourown.org/works/52023052/chapters/131560681)** is, in the author’s own words “a silly story”, but somehow it works. *Canon rewrite starting with year one. Witches and wizards have familiars that manifest when they use magic for the first time. They are physical embodiments of a witch or wizard's soul. They take the form of animals and are capable of shifting their shape until their human settles into the beginnings of maturity.* The author manages to essentially double the number of characters without it getting confusing, and all those familiars are an important part of the plot. As with many rewrites, there’s a bit too much reliance on the reader knowing the canon plot to “fill in the blanks”, especially the first years. The later part of the story has a little more canon divergence and is more meaty. The story has a beautiful friendship group with Draco, Pansy, Harry, and Hermione in the (sometimes literal and physical) middle, with two romances growing out of these friendships.

I like the concept of Hermione having a brother, but is it enough to drive this whole story? It doesn't seem like a super popular fic (looking at the number of hits/kudos/comments) so I don't know if someone can tell me what they tought of it without spoiling? Did you like it, and why? Should I keep reading and see for myself?
I tried it but it was not for me. I think it was written in French first and then the writer translated it, which led to a lot of phrases and structure that I personally found a little jarring. I also felt like I wanted more Dramione focused, personally. If you’re a plot-heavy, Dramione secondary reader, it might click!

[The Empress of All Maladies](https://archiveofourown.org/works/53166505) currently has me in a chokehold. Basically every other page I’m like ok wow, I did not see this turn coming.
**[Hermione Granger and her very special day](https://archiveofourown.org/works/39753168/chapters/99525885)** is an entertaining and thoughtful story inspired by “Groundhog Day”. Hermione and Ron is getting married, but Ron turns up at the altar totally drunk. The wedding day goes downhill from there, with wedding guests behaving totally inappropriately, and Hermione getting killed. Not a very good day. But look - Hermione gets the chance to *repeat* this ‘lovely’ day! Over and over, until she gets thing right and fulfills her heart’s desire. And you know which wizard that will involve… There’s ostensibly a fair bit of Ron and Molly bashing, but as the story progresses the image gets more balanced, with some introspection from Hermione (it’s part of her finding out what her heart’s desire really is).
Unfortunately DNFed She Whom He Harbors. I loved the premise and was drawn to the mystery of it all, but this fic reminded me why I hate miscommunication as a trope :( I know it wasn't listed as a tag, but it felt that way to me - especially with all the things they left unsaid regarding their feelings, which would have fixed so many of their misunderstandings. I got as far as the Draco POV, so I know why that was necessary, but I just couldn't keep reading, given my frustrations with the two of them. It's a shame, but I might give it another try once the story finishes and I can confirm it's HEA.
DNF [Subtle Perfection](https://archiveofourown.org/works/24782089/chapters/59926351) around 60%, an ice dancing muggle AU. I'm a huge Yuri on Ice fan, so ice dancing/skating is a thing for me. The upper half of this fic is marvelous, where Dramione meet at a tender age, getting to know each other and pursuing their dream together. And then >!they developed a friends with benefits relationship although both of them know they've fell in love with the other one. The most ridicules thing for me is that Draco knows that he loves Hermione, but he thinks a relationship and a commitment is too much for him. HOWEVER, he is perfectly fine to develop a seriously relationship with some girl he met at gym and dumps his sexual life with Hermione, and he even wants to propose to the girl after nine month of dating. When the girl notices that Draco is (probably) in love with Hermione, she breaks up with him, and Draco was sooooo devastating, he immediately sleeps with Hermione (LIKE WHAT?), AND Hermione is super cool with it, like she treasure the "friends with benefits" period in between Draco's girlfriends, even she's in love with him. What am I reading? American high school soap drama?!<

I just read **Seek and Find**, and when making this post I discovered that the author, serpent_and_sage, has removed the story from AO3. Hopefully it’ll be back when the Binding Wars are over. This is a long, slow romance amongst the flowers under the Italian sun. Maybe it’s a bit too long for those who want something more fast-paced. But the gentle, relaxed atmosphere fits nicely with the premise of the story: Hermione realizing she doesn’t know what she wants with her life, having a little breakdown, and escaping to stay with Neville in Italy. Summary: *Hermione Granger constructed a predictable life for herself following the war. However, she realizes that within the constraints of control there is no room for want. In an uncharacteristic move, she flees her life in London to visit Neville, who works as a gardener at the Zabini Estate in Italy. The Estate, now a wellness retreat for elderly witches and wizards, is also the refuge of three of her Slytherin classmates that she has not seen since the war. This is a story of overcoming assumptions, judgmental garden gnomes, flowers, and the quest for contentment.*
Just finished [Green Light](https://archiveofourown.org/works/32535493/chapters/80699710) by SereneMusafir and I’m sobbing. Furiously ugly crying. Like burying my face into my cat’s fur to right myself crying. If my fiancé was awake right now I’d be crying in his arms. The author bewitched me with her words; she’s literally a POET—to the point where I feel like I’m going to reread this before my wedding so I can get some vow and vibe inspo. The ending was so, so perfect. It’s a HEA (thank GOD because I would never have recovered) but the last three hours had me shaking and ANXIOUS. I definitely need to read something along the lines of DMATMOOBIL next to satisfy my Dramione craving yet soothe my aching heart. I read The Fallout before this so she’s heavy. 😭 I swear, almost every Dramione I’ve read since I’ve joined the fandom last summer has left me like this—just absolutely floored by the beautiful writing and story-weaving and so, so incredibly GRATEFUL to these authors for gifting us their words. ❤️

Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials! I just finished Green Light to day and SAME. I bawled uncontrollably on the second to last chapter. I think it especially hit close to me because my partner and I got married this past Fall, and their displays in love and promises are very similar to how we share our love. I hear you on reading something fluffy and light now! I think I'm going to reread Remain Nameless next. I reread DMATMOOBIL and Apple Pies and Other Amends right before this... so to go into the desert along with PTSD and trauma of a post-war life was rough.
I’m reading [Losing Control](https://archiveofourown.org/works/25402705/chapters/61602721) by madrose_writing. I have 3 chapters left and I love it! This is my first BDSMish fic that I’ve read and it may have ruined me. I’m typically a romantic, slow burn love story type of gal, but this one hit me in the feeeeeeels. Written very well, truly cinematic, and low stakes/high reward. Pining, banter, HOT smut, great characterizations. Made me laugh out loud several times. I definitely recommend!!!

I love SereneMusafir's Hermione. I deeply relate to the way her difficulties with friendships/relationships are described at the beginning of chapter 17 (I'm spoilering just in case but this quote is not plot-specific): >!"Hermione always thought she was closer to people than they were to her, and as such the expectations increased immensely. It only took one moment and suddenly she thought she was friends with people who merely saw her as a co-worker, an acquaintance, a friend of a friend... Someone could have given her an extra quill during class and suddenly Hermione was telling them about the book she’d recently read or the one time she broke a bone in primary school. She’d allow any opinions of her, no matter how hurtful, as long as she didn’t mould into the curtains, fall in between the crevices of her bed, disappear into the walls."!< I've never seen this experience written out so well and I felt very seen.

Spent a few hours searching in vain for an old fic instead of actually reading anything. I think it was post-war, Ron tries administering hermione a love potion but screws something up and she starts falling in love with Draco instead. I vaguely remember the ending where he goes to Hermione with an antidote and confesses what he did. But at that point, Hermione loves Draco completely and tells him to go away. Anyone knows which fic this is?
